Ok MG..think leesa has suggested this? How about some group classes. I am quite addicted to Attack and Combat and love the fact that I see the same faces there each week.

aaaahhhhh THAT'S not gonna happen! but thanks! I've even stopped doing my pilates class *OUCH!* I just felt the slap on the back of the head by each and every one of you!

Seriously, I need something physical for me. I can't explain it. You know, like be able to do 10 push ups or run 5Km or something... but obviously stuff I'm physically going to be able to work towards. I'm not going to be able to run 1Km let alone 5 in the near future and I NEED something for the near future to keep me going. something short term...

Eluned, I'm glad you feel better. Tape is awesome for support. Have you considered a brace? It might give you more support etc without the irritation of the tape. As well as the freedom to use it when you need to instead of needing to try and get into physio. It is hard to "not do much" with children. Just do what you can.

I think that a class is something you can work towards....i'm digging my heels in! :-P

Alrighty MG, what things can you do now easily? And what things are you struggling with fitness wise at the moment?

I am working towards classes... but at the moment I feel like everything is a struggle. My knees are on the way out now as well It just seems that every time I move FORWARD, something pushes me back

At the moment, I can walk. I do 30 min most days and usually walk at 5.8Km an hour. Walking faster throws my back. I usually use an incline going up to about 4. When I jog it's at 8Km and hour for a maximum of 5 minutes.

I've recently begun to do xtrainer with D. Last time he let me do 5.5 minutes. It didn't seem hard on my legs and no back pain.

I am doing the plan on my toes. I can usually hold for up to a minute. I've recently begun to alter it at home. I put one foot over the other so the weight is on one leg. I alternate legs.

I'm not able to do lunges or step ups because it stirs my hip flexor too much and then I suffer for about a week.

Squats are too easy. Even with the fitball behind my back and weights in my hand.

At the moment I am unable to do the bridge (think pelvic floor exercise) because my back muscles have deteriated.

I can do 12 push ups on my knees.

I physically can't do sit ups unless someone is on my feet.

I do the romanian dead lift with an empty bar. I only do 5-10 reps and 2 sets. Last time I did them with more than that, I suffered for two weeks.

I want and need to build my leg and back muscles. My upper body is going ok because it was all we worked for about 10 months. My body is a massive PEAR at the moment. I've lost about 2 dress sizes in my upper body and 1 (at best) in my lower body. I want to lose my bum, tum, and thighs. I want to be able to run again. But running is so long term for me at the moment. Jogging sets off my sciatic line (best way to describe where it hits me hard but it is purely muscle issues there... and discs compressing on nerves but hey, them's the breaks!). I NEED to build all the muscles required for running from scratch and retrain my body. I NEED the release from cardio or I'll go mad. But I need something short term to keep me going. My aim is to hit 80Kg. I'm currently 107-108 (depending on the day). I want to have another bubba (SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but am not happy to TTC until I'm under 100Kg. I need to strengthen my back and pelvis and hips to avoid nasty issues during PG and after bubs arrives. Despite my burning desire for another bubba, I STILL can't find the motivation I need to do this I'm currently sitting in front of my laptop with my cook books everywhere, pouring through them looking for low cal (filling) meals to have so I can hopefully get under my daily allowance and lose some weight. But my big issues is snacking. I'm hopeless.

I'm sorry, I've waffled and gone off on a tangent. Thanks for listening/reading and helping me out girls!

MG, sounds like going back to Pilates would really benefit. Have you thought about doing a private studio session instead of a group class? I started off doing Pilates that way in the beginning and it got my core back on track. Physio helped immensely yesterday and I had no pain last night and on getting out of bed. However, i am still getting the numbness in my hip on the side im lying on so i think I'm going to have to experiment with pillows and positoning. I don't have a hard brace as such but the physio gave me what she calls a tubey grip. Just like a really tight tube of bandage like material that I wear over my hips, it goes from my ribs to tops of my thighs. I wore it to bed and have it on now. It feels good to have my pelvis somewhat stabilised.

I'm glad the tube is helping Eluned. I should use pillows in bed too...

I should clarify - my core is good now. It is pretty strong actually. It is the external muscles that need to be rebuilt. You have to start in and then work outwards. Now I've stailised my core, I'm able to do a variety of exercises which will strengthen other muscles. Before I rebuilt my core, I wasn't able to work my legs at all. It's just evrything else is now deteriating after so much abuse over the years - dancing was not kind to me!

As the X trainer agrees with you - stick with it, but up the ante slowly but surely (under the supervision of D). Short term aim for either a faster pace or more time on the machine.

How are you doing the squats? Any chance you have used the incline or decline squat exercise? It still offers a good amount of support if you add a few plates for a 'challenge', but not too much too quickly, look after your knees. Once again, make sure D spots you on this one.

I need 20 pushups on your knees by the end of financial year MG!! :-)

Your core is sounding fantastic - especially holding the plank for a minute - heaps of 'fit' ppl struggle for that, you truly have worked your core amazingly well and it's clearly paid off!

My main piece of advice re the weight loss, is do some cardio after your final meal each day. That was my only trick in losing my weight hun. It was the time I exercised. Burn off the calories from your last meal, then you'll wake up in 'calorie depletion' and there is your loss. I counted calories to ensure I kept those losses going and it worked brilliantly for me.

I wanna give a bit of a 'salute' to you MG, in all seriousness chic.....you are such an inspiration to me. Despite all your injuries and everything going on you are soooo driven to keep your fitness dream alive and YOU DO IT. Whether it be at the gym with D or in your garage - you keep going. There are so many other people out there that would have (and have) given up or put exercise in the 'too hard' basket - they take their health for granted.

So for your dedication, persistance and inspiring attitude towards fitness - I salute you MG!!!

You just made me cry Leesa! 20 push ups by end of financial year?! Kidding right?!?! I'm joking. Your salute made me cry. thank you. And thank you for the goal with the push ups. That I can aim for!!!!!

I'm not sure what you meant by the incline/decline squats. We were doing the leg press but it causes too much pressure on my back (I can almost feel the disc) when I raise the second leg to the platform. Once I'm on it I'm ok so long as I don't have to go all the way in (as you do when changing weights). Squats I stand and squat or have the ball behind my back against a wall and squat. All are too easy. On the leg press I'm doing about 50Kg on a BAD day.

I am doing my training after final meal (except Tuesdays)... only issue is then I tend to snack. I HAVE to stop snacking! I have no discipline!

Ok, first goal - 20 push ups on knees by end of July. I can do that.

Lol, I was in tears typing it hun - but really MG, you deserve it!!!

Hmm, ok then, another goal - NO snacking after dinner. If you feel the need for something sweet, have a light hot chocolate drink. I have one each night in front of the TV (I'm not a coffee or tea drinker) - and its guilt free too!!

Liz - oooh, are you doing Combat now? Where at?
Sorry to disappoint Leesa - Just remembering what I used to do when I managed to find the time and inspiration to get to the gym - did like doing combat.

I did try to reply the other day on my phone (via the tapatalk function) and some how I must have hit the wrong part of the screen and I lost my whole post and then I wasn't up to re-typing it to post.
Still lurking around here - have been keeping an eye on my daily step count - usually over 10 000 when at school (don't count them on the weekends - Blake likes to chew the pedometer if I have it on). Have had a few bad <10 000 steps lately but it's been marking mayhem at school (I have some Yr 10/11 work coming up for moderation next week). I did kind of make up for the under 10 000 as I did some stocktaking of the library and was up near 20 000 those days - hoping to get to the non-fiction section in the next week or two so I up the steps again.

Ok, first goal - 20 push ups on knees by end of July. I can do that.
Loving the CAN DO attitude MG!

I think everyone should get involved in this. Lets have a push up challenge!

First thing is to get a baseline. Everyone has to do push ups in their normal way - toes or knees - and keep on going until you absolutely haven't got the strength to push yourself up. Listen to your arms - not your head! Your head will tell you to stop long before your arms give out! Then, when you've got a number, post it here and what your goal number will be. We've got a month ladies, that's 30 days to increase our strength, endurance, tone our lovely arms and become the strong people we want to be.

Winter - 33 push ups on my toes - I want to do 40 by July 1.

    Great idea Winter!

Phew... I *just* managed to do 15 with a breather at 10 and 13!! I do them on my knees (which also don't cope too well )

Goal... to do 20 (without breathers) by mid-July (no point getting too ambitious!).

First - Winter, I take my hat off to you hon. I am so so proud of you and everything you achieved with your run! You Go Girl!

I had PT today. I had to get off the treadmill at the 7 minute mark, my hip was killing me. I haven't been this bad for a while. D was concerned. We trialled some stuff in the weights area and I was struggling big time. D made the executive decision that I would only do upper body today which was fine. Except I couldn't make anything work for me today. It was frustrating for me. I confided in him that I am struggling at the moment with motivation, that I need achievable short term goals. He seemed receptive and even tried to help me think of some good goals. His idea is that I do the push ups, and lose a kilo in the same time frame. Not what I had in mind. I was thinking more like the push ups. And a 5 kilo loss in no time frame but small goals. But no, apparently not.

I saw my GP today to talk about not being able to sleep at night because of my hip. He kept saying to me "You know this is permanent right? This won't get better." Ahhhh yeah! I've SEEN the report and the images. I know this is permanent and not fixable. I have to learn to live with the pain and develop management of that pain. but that doesn't mean I SHOULD be in pain... right? Anyway, I told him the meds he previously prescribed are no longer helping at night so now he has suggested panadol osteo.
He also said my knees is likely to be my patella and I need to go back to physio. I'm relieved he thinks it is something sort term and fixable!

I also spoke to him about what another pregnancy would mean for my back. He said that it would be foolish to not expect some elevated discomfort but it is impossible to predict how much or when it would begin. He seems to think that the first trimester would be fine and it wouldn't be an issue until the placenta encroched into my abdominal space. He did say it wouldn't be a permanent elevation in pain - it should subside after I had the baby... but it is something I need to seriously consider before TTC. Living in a two storey home, how would I cope? I'd most likely end up in a wheel chair before the end of the pregnancy... I feel very conflicted about it all. But it has highlighted my need to lose this weight. It is so important for me. I need to do this - I need to get rid of my weight.
The GP did a blood run on me today. Testing for thyroid, random glucose, Full Blood Count, liver etc. I know my liver will come back elevated - it always does for some reason. It's the rest I'm getting myself worked up about. Is there a chemical or physiological reason as to why I can't lose weight? Is there something else wrong with me? I am hoping not but at the same time I kind of hope there is... does that make sense?

Enough waffling from me. I'm having another sore day so feeling a bit sorry for myself. I'm sick of being sore, I'm missing my old life - the things I used to do. I can't help but wonder if having surgery would allow me to return to many of those things and eliminate my pain... but do I want to take the risks of the surgery? I feel like I'm missing out on so many things. It is stupid since I am otherwise healthy and have a wonderful family and friends; I can walk, I can go shopping, I can go to movies, I can play with my daughter most of the time... but I'm constantly reminded of my injury through pain. I can't remember the last time I slept the entire night through without waking with pain or in pain throughout the night. And let me just say, lack of sleep does not make for a very nice MG!

I'm sorry for my waffle and "woe is me" girls.

I hope you're all kicking some serious goals!

Awwwww Mg . DH and I have a friend who is only 40 and he had to have a hip replacement. He couldn't get around a golf course without taking pain relief and even then he could barely walk. He was told to hold off for as long as he could as the he would outlast the hip replacement and probably have to have it done again later in life.
He has an amazing result from it, yes he had some physio and rehab an so on, as he is young he bounced right back pretty quicly and easily and he was also relatively fit aside from the dodgy hip.

Winter.....I am doing the push ups at combat every week, does that count? You really should consider becoming a PT, it sounds like the perfect job for you

Well done everyone for doing those push ups...Winter certainly is an inspiring person!!!!!!!!

Combat for me today. The instructor came up to me after class an offered to show me 1 on 1 the jump kick next week before class starts I have been running into her around the shops and explained how much trouble I was having, think she noticed that today
I'll get there.....so that's my goal, to perfect the Jump Kick
On the positive side I got the allligator push up today and also a few other things that have been introduced in Combat. It was an interval training style Combat today. Very good for the fitness.

Hope everyone else is going well with their training goals.

Aww MG You are amazing to keep up everything you do. I really take my hat off to you!

Gooooooo Nettie! That's brilliant! 15 is awesome!! At the beginning of this year, I could only do 6 pushups, so you're well ahead of that! Give me an N

OMGoodness Leesa & CQ! I am in awe! 50 & 60 pushups, you must have arms of steel!!

Heather, I did the new Combat yesterday. I haven't been to Combat in months and it was great! I loved it! And those aligator pushups are tricky, especially then to go & do 16 singles at the end. I had to come home & practise them. How's the jump kick going?

I tell you what gilrs, running has improved my fitness out of the water. I did that Combat class yesterday & there was a lady in the class that I have always previously pegged as the person who I wanted to keep up with if I could, someone to make me push myself when energies were flagging, but I kicked her arse yesterday. I took every high option and even added stuff, like kicking my feet to my bum doing the speed ball, jumping really high for the elbow jumps. I was stoked! I was really amazed, because in Ladies Circuit, it always feels hard! No wonder people come once and then don't come back apart from the core group of us. I'm going to keep doing the Combat now, I loved this release
