    Low Basal Body Temperature?

    Hi gals,

    Just a quick one...

My usual BBT stays around 36.1 (which I test at approximately 6:30 each morning) and during ovulation time it usually only rises to approximately 36.3 during ovulation.

Last Friday it rose to 36.3 (which I think is when I ovulated) but then yesterday I tested and it had gone back down to 36.1 but then jumped back up to 36.3 this morning.

Thus two questions I am wanting to ask you lovely ladies...

    1. Do u think that my usual BBT is very low (as I know they say that the more common temp is approx 37)?
    2. Because my BBT went back down to 36.1 does this mean there is a high possibility that I'm not pregnant or is it just that perhaps my body hadn't recognised until now that something had happened?

It may be too early to tell all of this but I'm keenly interested in what is happening this month as if we haven't conceived naturally this time we are going to take the leap and start IUI (which we are VERY reluctant to do).

    Thanks all!

It could be an 'implantation dip' but it seems a little early for that OR a fluke. Don't worry, I gave up temping as it was doing my head in!!!!
    Good Luck!

GL - Just realised I'm only about 1 or 2 days behind u in the TWW. Don't really know u 2 well but it would be awesome if a few of us fell pg together. Do u have a blog? or journal?

Rach - No worries...seeing his face just made me smile. Hav u been using the thermo for a while? That could perhaps be the reason for it but it may be unlikely.

    Hmmm...why are we such coldies???

I would be interested to hear anyone else that has had the same problem and that perhaps has spoken to their Dr or spec about it.

    Ciao gals!

GL - cd16 is definately not to late to o. We definately need some good news around here so here's hoping there's plenty of BFP news in the coming weeks!

Feeb - Hey! That's certainly a large temping range. I take a record of my temps but as you may have noticed I don't really know how to read them very well.

    Rara,
RE: LOW BASAL BODY TEMP QUESTION...

most temps are around 36.4 and higher, apparently that's the average.

I have discovered that if you have consistently low bbt's then you possibly have sub clinical hypo thyroidism (underactive thyroid) which can lead to a myriad of probs.

I have been to an accupuncturist and a herbalist and both of these treatments have worked wonders for me, with my temps an average of 36.5 now. Is this something that you would consider doing? Going to a herbalist or similar?

Sometimes sub clinical hypo thyroidism doesn't show up on the ordinary blood tests for thyroid, you have to ask for special tests, but the best and easiest way to find out if you have an underactive thyroid is to take your BBT each day (which you've already done) and if its low, then there's a good chance that you have underactive thyroid.

    Hope this helps you out...

That definately was something I wasn't aware of. I went to a Chinese Herbalist sometime ago but he was saying I had something wrong with my liver but it turned out not to be the case. Might have to look into the thyroid thing a little further.

Thanks for the very helpful advice!
