as a public patient I saw my GP and at my 8 weeks appointment he sent a referral to the hospital I wanted to go to (Geelong). They then contacted me with my first appointment which was around 12 weeks and they offered me an ultrasound.

At my antenatal appointment I spoke to a midwife and had the option of chatting to my appointed OB (not that I got to ever see mine with DD).

I am doing shared care between my GP and the hospital...

Go see your GP and they'll explain all your options. At Geelong you can have just midwives if thats your wish.
