Faint Positive HPT x 2 however Neg BT result?

    Ello,

Yesterday i got a faint bfp on a hpt (pregnow that measures just 10 so sensitive) and today again i got another faint bfp using the same brand test exactly.

The 2nd line came up very very quickly and was in the test window and was very very faint pink in colour hence i knew this was not an "evap" line which i hear ppl talking about often with tests.

I saw a local GP today. I explained all the many symptoms i've had lately and what seemed to be implant bleeding few days ago and cramps for 5days on and off etc and also sore BBs etc etc... you name it!
I asked him for a blood test to show my hcg levels. He said he can't do that because the test either comes up neg or pos. i explained to him that some friends of mine (BB) have told me to ask for the hcg level readings when they give me the BT result so i know if the levels are good or not... and he said "well, its been a while doing this sort of thing so i'm not sure what you are talking about" and i told him i would like to see the hcg levels thats if it turns out to be positive because i am interested....
anyway it was all too much trouble for him wasnt it, so in the end i just got the pos/neg test ordered. got result back this afternoon and the lady over the phone said "its negative ok" and i just said thanks and hung up.

I'm upset that the doctor would not allow me access to the hcg levels report.
(thats if i am even pregnant)

I have now been told that because i got 2 x faint positive HPTs its possible that i could have >10 hcg levels in my system to show on the hpts yet not enough to show on the BT result?
i have been told that you need to have at least 20 hcg to show on a BT.
I didnt know that how come the GPs dont tell you this?

I'm sure this probably happens all the time i'm just upset that its happened.

so i'm left here wondering am i still pregnant and its just too early? or should i stop counting my chickens?!?
the doctor was an elderly man, i think he had noooo idea about hcg testing....

I'd see a second doc. I got hcg readings done this time. My hpt was positive a week before AF was due. I had sore boobs & did it with only that as the symptom. The lines on both 2hpt's was faint, but I still took it as positive. As far as I know with most hpts you can have a false neg, but not a false pos. As in if it says pos you are, no matter what, if it says neg you still could be. I didn't have hcg blood test til around 6 or 8 weeks pg though.
Hopefully if you give it another week & do another hpt, or go to a 2nd doc it will all work out.

    Goodluck.

    Hi Renstar,
Unfortunately i only have a "yucky" story to tell regarding faint lines and low hcg....

A few months ago i had a very similar thing- only my tests took awile to show- so i started to think it was evap lines- but i got about 5 of them. When i went to the dr i had my levels done and the next day i was called in to the dr's (a lot nicer than what happened to you- i didnt think they gave results over the phone?!)
AF had already arrived that morning- but i went in anyway to be told that my levels were 9 - and the dr was actually calling me in to say i might be preg!! (WTF??) When i told him i was bleeding he changed his tune and told me i was most likely having an early mis carrage due to not implanting.
A hcg level of 2 is not pregnant but anything above is considered "maybe" until it gets to the high 100's then its definate and the level doubles (approx) each day as the preg progresses (hence why you can test to see if its all still going good in the early days)

IF AF has not arrived (judging by your ticker not due for a day or two) it may be too early for the test to show (MAYBE not sure what the absolute neg or pos test is)

I would go see another dr and get your levels checked (YES you are right it CAN be done!!) or maybe wait a few days and test again.
I dont want to be a wet cloth- but please be prepared to be told that you got "close" as i like to call it.

From my experiences i am trying to hold off until AF is actually late before testing because the stats are high for every woman to get "close" alot, and she would normally just think she got her period and think nothing of it- but when you are trying to concieve and you test BEFORE af is due- you tend to catch those "close calls" as faint lines and then get your period anyway. If we werent looking so hard we would never know- but it is really quite common.

However- i am a glutten for punishment and tested early this month and got a faint line- then AF. Will i ever learn??? LOL

Like i said- i dont mean to put a damper on things- i wish you all the best and i hope AF stays away for you and your faint lines get dark!!

    Take care

    thanks girls.

Starbright - thanks for your story - its ok. i need to hear it---- good or bad.... im just sad that the GP treated me that way and he had no idea about the hcg reading report! no idea!! yet i did!
anyway, when you mention 'close call' does that mean a miscarriage then? or does it just mean the egg was trying to burrow in and started making hcg but not quite enough then it didnt happen and the hcg stopped producing? is that what u mean? sorry just trying to clarify here!!

thanks heaps. i will just have to wait a few days then might do another HPT if no AF by then
    its cruel hey!!!

With my current pregnancy and my last one I was given two different HCG levels as being considered positive as they used different labs. One was over 5 then current one was over 20 or 25 (sorry can't remember).

When I had my early m/c in March I'd tested positive 3 times with 3 different brands over a week but then started spotting, then extremely light bleeding. When the BT came back it had a level of 3 which the doctor told me meant I might be pregnant but it was too early to tell, or I'd just had a very early miscarriage (which is what it turned out to be) as two days later it was back to zero.

Leave it a few more days and test again with a HPT, if it comes up positive see another GP and as for another BT - I think some labs called it a HCG quantative test.

i will just have to wait....

I did a test just now and it was yep, another faint positive and the line came up clearly (both did) and immediately..... what is with that???!?!?!

Hi hun!! Was thinking about you yesterday. I would say that is a BFP! You surely can't do three test and they ALL say positive and the dr (he sounds like a dino!!) say no. Could it be that you misunderstood the phone call, maybe the woman said negative to your request for the hcg levels - again????

I am surely keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!! I'll be looking for your BFP post!!!

PS. my hpt also showed the line very, very quickly, but have to say I waited till AF were three days late (could not contain myself any longer )

Nadine - wow you have good willpower to wait 3 days after AF due!! lol... for any future cycles of ttc i am definitely going to WAIT WAIT WAIT
my BBs are sooo sore... still!

no the lady definitely said the test result is "negative" i heard correctly lol wish it was otherwise! perhaps hcg levels are just too low like everyone has been telling me....
i will get a BT done Thursday if no AF by then and make sure i get the hcg quantitive test.

    thanks heaps x

hon, I was told with this one I was -ve as BT came back with a level of 2, yet I had been getting VERY VERY VERY faint +ves on LC. My levels when not pg are less than 1, but I thought I was imagining pgcy again. Two days later, I had enough hormones in my urine to get def +ve HPTs with a non sensitive test, took it to Dr and said I'm pg. He fought me untill I showed him the HPTs and he said well ur prob right, wait a week and re-test. My levels were very high then and all has been fine (except occasional spotting) since. Sometimes HPT's pick it up earlier (dont ask me why!). I'd say go to another Dr and ask for quantative test of HCG and see. I bet u r pg! I bet it was just too early!

I will get a BT done on Friday if still no AF by then.... i feel pregnant still hey. if only the BT result had given me hcg levels in the first place which is what i wanted... thanks for giving me hope. i didnt realise this must happen alot to women!
