I regret it to some degree. In terms of maintenance I am slack & go for months without cutting or dyeing it until I am in dire straights! I wish it were a little longer b/c it gives you more options for formal events. eg: I want to be able to curl my hair more but it springs up too much, so I wear it straight alot
For about 10 years I had long, thick, only ever in a pony tail hair. Like you I thought about cutting for a few years and then, last year, I did it. Best thing ever! I had to go cold turkey on the pony tail, so I told the hairdresser to make sure it was short enough that it wouldn't go into a pony tail.
I use no product, I never blowdry it and I just wash and comb. I get it cut every 3 months or so, and my style grows out nicely (I think). I look heaps better with it short. DO IT!
5 years ago I got my long hair cut to just below my shoulders, I hated it and cried for days! My hair so thick and the layering in it when it was short made it boofy and hard to work with. When it's long the layers just make it look nice and the length weighs it down so that it flows nicely. My hair has been pretty blah since I had blonde foils in it 18 month ago and with hormones I've sworn I would cut it several time over the last 2 years but I keep the last experience in the back of my mind so haven't taken the plunge. I have thought about going just below my shoulders again but I know I'd have to straighten it after every wash to stop it feeling like a birds nest. But I LOVE long hair so I will keep it as is I think.
