    Hi ladies!

My name is Ann and our twin girls were born at 8.30am on the 15th of Feb.

Mae weighed in at 2.4kg and Hana was 2.2kg. My little girls are trying to catch up on their weights by using me as a human milkbar.

I also have another little girl called Ella who is a very independant 2 years old.

We are trying to bf these two munchkins which is a lot trickier than a singleton baby as I'm discovering... Well at least we've made it this far. yay!

Congratulations on your twin girls luua! And well done on b/f them - that must be tricky!

MelanieKate: So glad your little guy is doing so well .

AFM: Well, as I thought might happen, Oliver has stopped letting mummy have nice 5-6 hour sleeps at night, and has instead decided he would like to wake every 3-4 hours for his feed. Oh well - he's a growing lad .

Lachlan slept 5hrs last night! last feed was at 11pm and he didn't wake until 5am! Just tried giving him his afternoon feed and he just layed there with my N!pple in his mouth, I have a feeling my milkbar has ran out of milk!

I feel like I have let him down!!!

is it only Lachie or do all babies have stinky mustard/pea green poos?

MelanieKate: Woot on the 5 hour sleep! Oliver was doing that, but now he's not - oh well. Oliver will often fall asleep during feeds and lie there with my nipple in his mouth, is that what Lachlan was doing? Have you tried expressing to see what your supply is doing?

As for the poos (lovely subjects we discuss here, hey ), Oliver's are more of a mustard colour, and only sometimes really stinky. No green. Sorry I can't be more help.

AFM: I just did a full feed without the nipple shield! I've had to use one due to flat nipples, but I really want to be rid of them (such a pain having to cart them round everywhere and clean them all the time). I hope I can keep it up and not have to use them anymore. I have an appointment with a lactation consultant tomorrow - hopefully we'll be able to work something out to head in that direction.

How are all the other mummies doing?

He was lying there wide awake!

I have been expressing but only getting a small amount out of each!

MelanieKate: have you tried BFing then like an hour later expressing, as in not nessaernaly a pump but hand expressing? you dont just do 'north and south' trying doing 'east and west' too as i found it stimulated more milk ductes then just north and south.. i was doing it like that while my darren was in SCN and i had an over supply of milk the other thing is are you drinking enough water/milk/cordical/anything other then booze ? i find if i dont drink enough my milk supply drops as well...i found darren has the mustardy poo too, but if he misses a day as such of poop its a little greener (and i also find he poops like 3 times aday if its like that) it also depends on if its been hot (like the other day was 36 deg. here...and he had greeny poo) but i wouldnt know...im guessing the smell is normal...i dont seem to be bothered by darrens...DH would be better at telling you - he has a more sensative nose the i do!

Selina : yeah i use a sheald to slow my let down down some. other wise darren chokes and pulls off and then it takes like almost 2hrs to feed him. he can attach better as well. your oliver sounds like darren, loves letting the sheald fill up with milk, pull off and have it all go down my frount! so now i tuck a small (old) hand towl into my bra at the fount and let it sit under his head (and down my leg) so when it happens my mat. bra doesnt get wet! (plus after a feed any little possets that come up go on it...kind of... rather then him!) as for the MCHN i've made up my mind that she's doing a job, by the book. darren is NOT a page of a book, he's a human being and im his mother and i *know* whats best for him. plus her idea of feeding him in 40mins is cruddy because of the nipple sheald...so im happy to take an hour/hour and 20 to feed him (if he burps at all lol).

AFM: Chris, Darren and i had our first 'outing' today. we went to a big shopping center where i used to work to pick up my old pay slips (we need it for the baby bonus...and stuff) and i wanted to show off darren to the guys i worked with! they all commented on how strong darren is (like he can lift his own head up and do like a top body push up!) they all thought he was SOOO cute. and we also saw a friend of ours there too, she showed darren off to the guys she works with. the down side, darren woke up for a feed when we got there...then wouldnt settle in the pram/bassent only in my arms...so hes now sleeping with DH on the couch (they both need it!) so he'll be about 4 and a half- 5 hrs between feeds, but i dont mind, gives me a chance to make some more milk and be very relaxed when he wakes up...who knows, he may even take both boobs hes only taking one at the moment, becuase if i offer him the second he over-eats and all my milk gets thrown back up! he's an over eater me thinks. but he looks soo cute right after a feed and if he's fallen alseep and had milk down the side of his face...DH calls it a "a nice attempt at a milk beird"

Any one else had a coffee while BFing? i did and i think the caffine when to darren, he was WIDE awake after the feed lol...i wonder if i have a glass of wine with tea tonight if that'll affect him the same way as it affects me...and makes me sleepy

We had a horror night last night when the twins decided they would stay awake for 1.5hrs at 3am!

So today I decided to start cutting down the daytime sleeps and they've gone down for their 7pm sleep without a peep. Hopefully this means they are zonked.

Expressing helps with my supply or else a coulple of days on Fenugreek also boosts the supply.
Dont forget Babies go through a growth spurt around 3wks so they empty the boobs faster so they sometimes are left with an empty boob. Express and it will stimulate that milkbar!

Poos are mustard in our house too.

Hope everyone gets some rest tonight.

    Sorry I've been mia!

I'm positive my Milkbar has ran out! I fell shocking about it! They aren't getting as full as they used to and the let down feeling isn't as intense as it used to be!

    WHATS WRONG WITH ME?

Lachlan is sleeping heaps too! I don't know if I should wait til my milk completely runs out before I put Lach on formula or if I should just put him on now!?

I hope everyone has a good day and if I don't post before 4pm I'll speak to you all on monday!

oh mel the midwife told me that my milk can fluctuate sometimes so maybe you are just going through one of those periods? i would call or go and see your midwife and ask her.. if the little man is sleeping heaps maybe he is getting enough booby milk! other wise he would be letting you know that he is hungry!

    Hello to all the mums!

Its taken me ages to find the group on the website as I thought we hadn't started in here yet!
My name is Moose and I am the mum to Samantha (Sammy) born on the 9th of Feb and she was 3130g. Things have been fairly good so far, had some issues with breastfeeding at first but attended a couple drop in BF clinics and got that sorted...apart from her falling asleep at the boob but I can deal withn that. I strip her down to her nappy and burp her a couple times through.

The last weigh in done on Tuesday, Sammy had put on 190gr in 5 days, so she is well and truly on her way to fattening up. We had some issues with settling as well and she still has her days but she seemed to have fallen into a routine where she is awake after the 8:30am-9:30am feed until 11am or midday, then we feed again and she sleeps well for the rest of the day til the 12am-2am time where she does the same thing, she just doesn't like being in her cot, but is not crying the whole time, she has what I call quiet time in our arms. What I found works wonder is to lay her on my chest (skin to skin), her ear close to my heart and I pat her bum and she usually fall asleep.

Glad to see everyone is doing pretty good with the motherhood thing. Just don't give up and get as much help as you can. I cannot say how good the BF clinics were, built my confidence as the EC nurse had managed to crush whatever little bit I had gained when she told me Sammy was not feeding well and told me that she had only gained 80g (when in fact she had gained 160! She used the birth weight not the discharge weight silly woman) As mentioned before, Sam put on 190 5 days after that, so she is feeding JUST fine!

Gotta run and get a couple things done before Miss Sammy wakes up.

Looking forward to hear from everyone's motherhood adventures as it's a wild ride but boy is it fun! I love her SOO much

    Mxx

Melanie Kate: With bub getting enough milk query, providing you are getting 6-8 heacy wet nappies per day and your bub settles fairly well, there is enough milk. But Laura is right, chat to your midwife. They sometimes can get overly sleepy if they are not getting enought milk but if you are getting the heavy wet nappies, you should be ok. Let us know how you go.

Sterla: Sammy was like Oliver with the sleep until the midwife put us on a regiment of 3 to 3.5 hours feeding times (when she thought she needed to fatten up) and since then, we;ve lost the nice 5-6 hours sleep but it will all even itself out soon enough. She is sleeping about 4 hours on the longer sleeps. Babies are nocturnal and they feed better at night. Just remember to sleep when they sleep if you need it. Everything else ( like housework) can wait and the pattern (routine) will come soon enough.

Blip: So Darren sounds like a darling that needs lots of attention. Just hang in there, trust your mummy instincts and don't be scared to ask for help. I'm sure he'll perk up in no time!

Did anyone watch the Bringing up Babies on ABC last night?
It basically spoke about 3 methods of raising babies, 50's style ( very regimented- all focussed on routine) the 60's (which is kinda what is recommended today) and the 70's which is based on a tribal, more primitive way of raising babies, always keeping them on you, co-sleeping, sling, etc. I would strongly recommend a watch, its on again for the next 2 thursday nights at 8:30pm

OK, REALLY must run now!I can't believe its 3pm and I have not showered yet! LOL

    Hi

I'm Angie and I just had my third baby boy, Marley on the 5th of Feb, it was an unassisted homebirth.

He was my biggest bub, 9lb 4oz.

He is a complete booaholic already, he is a very chilled out bub so far, fingers crossed he stays that way, my last baby had colic for 6 months, I'm terrified of a repeat of that!

I haven't had him weighed since birth yet, but I can tell by looking at him be is stacking on the weight, I'll take him next week sometime, I need to get him checked for clicky hips, it runs in the family a little... I'm just not looking foward to listening to the usual nonsense which comes out of most CHN's mouths... hopefully this one may be a little cluey...

Looking foward to getting to know you all

Sydneymoose - I haven't been watching that programme, I'm very much into the continuum concept type of parenting, I don't think I could cope with watching that harsh style, it sounds like child abuse to me, would break my heart...

moose: YaY im glad sammy is putting on some waight! darren does need alot of attention! but im happy to give it to him! i watched that bringing up baby last night too - i very much love the contuinum methord - i semi co-sleep as it is..but i cant do 'mum still alseep feeds' unless i stick the sheald onto my boob!

Cyathea- Hello! congrats on your thrid - watch out you may be bombarded with questions from us 'newbie' mums! hah

AFM: i have a little more time. DH is currently enteratining Darren! i've made up my mind about my MCHN. she's full of it telling me tuesday he needs sleep. telling me today to wake him. then today also telling me that 'hes hydrated now...but he may not be on monday' (when i go back) stupid women she is. i've found that yes darren feeds for an hour/hour and twenty. but he sleeps for 2 and a half three hours (if he's lucky and not got too much wind) so i'm up when he is and sleep (most of the time) when he sleeps! i talked to my mother on the phone about it...and she told me that 'you need to show him that your boss, they can get you under their control you know' ... at three weeks old? can i snap her nose? but i better go (again) darren sounds rather hungry!

any one else finding that their bubs done supscribe to the whole "40mins feed, 45 mins up sleep fpr 3-4 hrs?" or is just darren playing hard ball??
