Seena, Belle and Xavier must be talking to each-other, it is the same story in this house. We get the odd night with a 3-4 hour break overnight, like twice since he was born but he is 1-2 hours for a feed for the most part. Xavier also hates being swaddled and I wrote a post about making a sleeping bag so he can't kick the blanket off overnight and get a chill. (although we wind up co-sleeping so I get maximum sleep )
I forgot how awful the sleep deprivation is. I don't know what I will do when Juz goes back to work on the 28th
On the plus side, my vagina is starting to feel somewhat normal again It is a bit itchy because of the healing but the pain is pretty much gone!!!
Deb and Kim glad you guys are home and well. Hope you are enjoying your darling little boys!
Seena and Sarah i think Belle and Xavier have been coconspiring with Ruby!!! The days are so hot though here...reaching 37 today so I dont blame the little darling for sleeping during the day! Sarah Im feeling pretty good too, its nice being pain free again yay!
Kirsten sounds like Ryley is going great..well done clever mumma!
Weve had a lovely day chilling today. We bought a stack of dvds so lots of movies to watch this weekend..the temps are soaring here! Trying to find a shade thing to take Ruby with the rest of the family down the beach is proving to be quite difficult..everywhere seems to have sold out! Ruby was weighed again today and has put on 215 grams in 6 days little piggy so shes loving her mummas milk.
Congratulations Kim and Deb, bet it was well worth the wait!
I start and stop bleeding but its not heavy. Haven't DTD again since day 8 because the bleeding came back and to be honest we are still trying to work out who will take what night shift so its a bit all over the place at the moment. DH did last nights shift so I got a good nights sleep and I will do tonights night shift as he has to get up early.
We left JD with nana yesterday afternoon so DH and I could go grocery shopping. It was nice to get out by ourselves but we missed him while we were gone. We are hoping to get a massage in this morning cause we are both so sore. But will have to see if my tummy settles as we tried a new dish last night and it hasn't agreed with me at all (no fair!).
JD is sleeping most of the day, I had to wake him after a 6 hour sleep the other day cause the hospital said that they dont like them sleeping that long on hot days. But at night we are getting about 4 hours sleep from him. Problem is that sometimes it can take about 15-20 to feed ad settle him and then sometimes like last night it takes over an hour. So its a bit of a mixed basket. We stopped him sleeping in our room now and have him in his room in his cot. He seems to sleep the longest in their. I tried bringing him in with us after his 4.30am feed but now DH says that he can't sleep when JD is in bed with us cause he is scared we will roll over on him. So back to the cot he goes and he likes it there anyway. So I think that will be the go for now unless something else changes. Its just hard trying to figure out what is best half the time.
We have the nurse coming to visit Thursday to weigh JD so that will be interesting cause he is a guts and would be interesting to see how much he has gained, also I am keen to join a mothers group. I am not looking forward to DH going back to work next week, but at least they are letting him work a couple of days from home for a while so its not so bad.
Man I have so many questions for you experienced mums so be prepared!
Well our first night at home went really well...couldn't be happier! Harley slept alot since 12noon and had a few feeds, then had one at 11.20 and fed for nearly 40mins before going to sleep for 6 hours!! Couldn't be happier that he gave us a good sleep...then fed him at 6am and he had a bit of awake time and just fed him about 20mins ago and is asleep again.
He is doing so well and mummy is getting the hang of breastfeeding so all very happy!!
So happy we all have our precious bubs, and I sure know the wait was worth every minute! I did really well, only really cracked once, wanted to on a few occasions when the pain of my joints got to me. Was so good having Kim to share the whole overdue experience then share the same day our boys were born!! Think its so wonderful! And so glad we did it without being induced! Also having a drug free labour, which I never thought I could do!
Well I'm gonna go sit for a bit while Harley sleeps, we have Robs aunt and uncle coming today, then a few visitors tomorrow, and the midwife is coming tomorrow morning for the heel pr*ck test.
U girls take care and enjoy ur beautiful bundles!! Will be back on later to see how u are all going
I am BF but last night due to me not having slept and it being a mucked up day (whole new thread) i gave him 50ml of formula....slept from 11 until 3am when he woke up choking on vomit....had a BF and was back to sleep at 5am....and never woke (and probably wouldnt have either) til the midwife came to check him out at 10! This boy loves his sleep.
He lost 210 grams, has a bit of jaundice as far down as his belly button but the middy was extremely happy with both Zach and me!
Ive had a great night sleep and feel on top of the world. The girls adore their brother so much, Chelsea is always kissing his head and patting his back. Jasmine just points and starts talking in her own lingo to him...its so sweet.
I feel like a new women today! Belle went from two hourly to 3 hourly feeds yesterday, which isn't that big of a difference, but it is when it come's to sleeping at night. And to top it off both her and my little man (who was in our bed last night) slept until 7am this morning so I am feeling more refreshed today than I have in weeks Woot Woot I hope she keeps the 3 hourly feeds up. I doubt my DS will keep sleeping till 7am though as he is normally a 5:30am on the dot kind of kid, but this morning was a much appreciated sleep in by him.
Is anyone else still bleeding quite heavily? I asked the doc at our check up yesterday and she said to "keep an eye on it" what does that mean? How do I know how much is too much???? hmmmmm the joys of it. Belle is back to her birth weight already ~ she gained 140grams in 7 days ~ what a trooper.
Serena I had the same concerns with bleeding which ironically seems to have almost disappeared now and was told to just be aware of clots and or smell. Other than that can be quite normal to bleed for 6 weeks in varying degrees of heaviness. Yay Belle and the 3 hourly feeds...clever girl!
Kim glad the midwife is happy with you both. Ruby has slight jaundice as well..can still see it in the whites of her eyes, but it didnt really affect her other than that. I can remember with Sammy having it he was just so sleepy and wouldnt wake to feed. Glad Chelsea and Jasmine love their little brother so much. Is it weird saying son/brother??LOL
Deb glad your first night home went well. Hope little Harley doesnt mind his heel***** test too much poor darling. At our hossy it was lovely as they encourage mums to feed bubs while they do the test so its not as stressful for them which was nice.
Jodie glad little Harmony Grace is settling in so well to your family.
Amanda glad JD is going well. He certainly sleeps well!
Weve had a gorgeous day. Princess Ruby has been so patient with us taking piccies of her in varying poses ..poor darling. Shes sleeping soundly in her little cocoon chair now..its so snuggly. Little else to report...all is good!
morning girls, has anyone noticed their little ones dried up cord bit is starting to fall off or bleed a little. Poor JD's stump started bleeding a little the other day just a bit on his singlet. Its not swollen or pussy or smelly just looks like its going to fall off soon. I guess it happens soon doesn't it?
It was my night shift last night. He is usually a little cranky come 5-7ish but last night he was great so I had a small glass of wine with dinner and a warm bath while he slept. DH did the 11ish feed and I woke to do the 3.30 feed (by then I assumed my breast milk would be free from the wine as it was 9 hours ago that I had it) he took the boob and gutzed down for 20 minutes before falling completely asleep. I thought yeah this is good 20 min and were done. But dumb me put him in his cot and put his dummy in his mouth and 30 minutes later he was complaining cause it fell out and was cranky and wouldn't settle! So I heated up a bit of formula and he drank 50 ml before crashing again. So by this time it was just after 4am. I put him back to sleep WITHOUT his dummy and he didn't wake till about 8.30 am. He had a wet nappy otherwise I would assume he would have slept longer as he loves his sleep ins in the morning. Now a quick 20 minute bob feed while laying in bed with me he is now sound asleep in his pram (bassinett) and probably will be till lunch time or a wet nappy wakes him up. I think we are doing ok. Certainly happy that he gets more than 2-3 hours between feeds though!
Anyway, might go have my shower and clean myself up a bit I look a fright I am sure! Also got to pump the right boob before it explodes everywhere!
Had the night from hell, both Noah and Xavier, I am supposed to go to my mums group bbq but not sure I am up for it now.
Xaviers umbilicus fell off by day 6, so really quick. It is normal to have a little blood, not a lot and the pussy looking stuff is normal too in small amounts. The belly button is a open wound for the first 3 days of life and needs to heal like any cut.
Well I am going to grab a shower, what I would do without Juz here is beyond me!
Puppies Belle's bled a little bit before falling off on day 6 and it is still a little bloody/weepy now so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Your night sounds so lovely bath and glass of wine how totally lovely.
LMS sorry to hear your had a such a bad night. Hope you can fit in a nap today so your feeling better.
Belle is still on 3 hourly feeds, but was unsettled last night. Not a terrible night though. What's everyone's thought's on comping? I started comping my son when he was about 1 month old (just for the night feeds), but I am unsure if I am going to do it with Belle or not.
Puppies like the girls have said its quite normal for the cord to bleed a little. As long as you are cleaning it best you can, it will dry and fall off on its own. Ruby's is still on as her umbilical cord was quite thick but its just about off. The bath and wine sounds lovely! I plan on having the same next week. We have the girls going to stay with Granma for a few nights so we will just have Sammy and Ruby so thought it might be nice to chill and relax a bit.
LMS sorry you had such a crappy night. Hope today is better and you make it to your mums group.
Seena do you mean formula comps? I personally would be reluctant to introduce and have never done so just because it interferes with the milk supply demand that we are setting up for baby now, and I dont use formula ever, but thats just me. You have to do what is right for you.
Miss Ruby is loving the sling. I stripped her off just to her nappy last night and she just loved it outside looking at everything while i was pottering around in the garden and the kids were on the trampoline..,its so sweet. She also had her first bath with Sammy and Livvy which they thought was just lovely!
Hi Everyone.....
I'm finally here....sorry it has taken me so long to post.
Isabella is doing great. Came home from the hospital on Monday and she has settled right in at home....sleeping in 4 hour blocks and sometimes I get a 5 hr sleep.
This is my first baby so it defiantly a adjustment. I have never spent so much time in the house!
She seem to have a bit of a unsettled period around 7/8pm but from the sounds of things, its quite normal.
Question- When did you start taking your babies out. I mean to the local shops etc. She is only 10 days old so is it too soon?
I'm glad everyones baby's are going well. Isabella's cord fell off on day 6.
I had a natural birth but have stiches like most of you. Healing well but dtd is the last thing I'm thinking about.....
Deb-glad Harley had a good first night. And glad your getting the hang of breastfeeding..
Kim-glad that the midwife is happy about you and bubs progress..
LMS-hope your boys behaved themselves for you today..
Gincasa-I am also a first time mummy and have heaps of questions. Lol. Good to see you here..
Puppies-Ryley umbilicus fell off when he was a week old and yuck. Lol. I been trying to clean it with sea salt and cotton bud and its stubborn to get it clean..Plus Ryley moves heaps as well..
seenabeena-glad your bubs is going well..
Hello to everyone else.
Slings-I have a jazsling and still trying to work it out
Bleeding-on and off and little clots now and then. I had 8 stitches plus a episomy and I found having 2 baths a day helps with the healing process but I wish my butt still didn't feel so sore. Lol.
Breastfeeding-I applaud the girls who keep on with it..I don't feel guilty about giving it up a little disappointed but Ryley is happy so it makes me happy.
AFM-Ryley is doing well on the formula and now drinking 120mls..I am off to my nans his great nan tomorrow and I haven't seen her for 20 years and plus it be my first public outing with Ryley and dad coming as well which is good. Ryley still gets restless now and then and is feeding every 4 hours plus some water in between. Other than that all is well..
The only time that JD has been in the car was on the way home from the hospital and he was unsettles at first and then went quiet until we arrived home. So I think he likes the car. I would like to get him in the car again soon for a drive and get him used to it. We walked him in his pram around the block the first day we came home and he screamed the whole way around. But since then he has been asleep when we have taken him and he seems to be happy sleeping through the walk which is nice so DH and I can enjoy the fresh air and chat together. I want to walk twice a day now. So I can get some sunshine which Dr has said I need 20 minutes everyday. So we will walk after his breakfast or lunchtime feed and again after dinner with DH and the pup.
JD is still asleep now so might leave DH to watch over him while I sneak up teh shops for some dvd's for the week and a few odd bits and peaces.
As for formula, we are new to all this but it seems that JD loves his NUK teats better than my nipples! He only likes my nipples when he is calm otherwise he just plays with them and cries and fights and cries. Which really upsets me. But if we put his milk in a NUK bottle with a NUK teat he is happy and to be honest I would rather do that most of the time now cause at least I can see what he is getting and not gulping and then getting wind. We have been giving him formula (Karatine Gold) at night time as it seems to keep him sleeping longer, perhaps he is fuller on that and less pooey. Cause he hates a pooey or wet nappy! So he will get breast milk during the day and formula at night and so far that sees to be working. But its all about, ok lets try this and see what happens. Like now we let him sleep in his cot and not in his pram or in our bed unless its for a couple of hours like this morning. Where DH put him in with me for his morning feed and we feel asleep together which was nice.
Anyway better get to the shops so I can come back for my nanna nap, i have the night shift again tonight as DH goes to work tomorrow. But at least he will work from home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have the nurse coming to visit on Thursday and am looking forward to knowing how JD is progressing. Also 12 days now and still the cord stump is hanging on there. I hope it comes off soon cause it looks like it might be irritating. Do I clean in with metho or isocole? MIL said clean in with metho and I was like wont that sting? Or should I just leave it?
P.S. Can't wait to join a play group or mothers group, feel so isolated a bit.
