well i think i jynxed myself yesti hehe, Jaylen didnt sleep too bad last night but has been awake since 6am, fed him and put him down just then and hes kinda winging in his bouncer, usually he does that for a bit and goes to sleep, so hopefully he does that!

Y'all alone in here Jess? he he he! I hope Jaylen goes to sleep for you.

Jen, glad she slept for you mate. I hope today is a better day.

I forgot what else I was going to say. I was meant to have a visitor today but have asked her not to come as I am too tired. I feel really rude but she said it was ok so I guess it is.

Might go and have a nap.

    Back later.

    Hi ladies,

Just thought I'd say hello. Another hot day here. Have had to put the air con on because Amy just gets way too hot in her room. She can't sleep without being wrapped but even with only a nappy on, it's still too hot for her. Lucky we have air con!

Jen - I hope everything is ok with your little one. xxx

Hope you all have a wonderful day. I ventured down to the shops earlier and Amy slept in her stroller which was nice. I had to buy some wipes (can't believe how quickly we go through them!), nappy sacks and some more dummies. I don't use one much but like to have them when we go somewhere cos she doesn't usually like her car seat and gets cranky when we first put her in her stroller so the dummies help calm her. How often does everyone sterilise their dummies? Are you supposed to get a clean one every time they spit one out (probably not, stupid question I know)?? I'm so dam'n clueless.......

    Luv Nik and Amy x

Nik- Amber is not a big fan of the dummy. Everytime we try her on it, she spits it out.
Amber had a sleep from 930-1230. Now she wont sleep in her basinette. She can fall asleep in our arms, we put her down, she wakes 5 minutes later and then she will not settle. I was trying the patting technique earlier and it didnt work. I watched her after we put her down. She could be sound asleep then she will wake and be unsettled. My patting sort of calmed her for 5 minutes then she gets grizzly.
I just fed her but she didnt drink much at all... and now she has a blister on her top lip which may be preventing her from drinking enough to get sleepy.
I really dont want her to be awake for too long today. Not after yesterday.

damn computer, had nearly my whole post written out and the comp turned itself off, grr...

kate - yer Jaylen slept for me, so i got a nap yay!
i wouldnt feel guilty about telling people not to come over, i've been doing it heaps, cant be bothered with people lol

nik - oh so glad its not hot here, HATE it...
with dummies i think u only steralize them if they fall on the ground or somewhere dirty, if they just fall out of their mouth and land in their bed or in the pram or whatever i just ran it under HOT water for a sec... dont really know lol, Jaylen wont take a dummy anymore!

jen - yer jaylen spits out the dummy everytime! never really need to settle him though, after a feed he kinda settles himself... have u tried holding her for about 20 mins b4 u put her down?

for people who are still breastfeeding, do u give bubs both sides everytime? mum said i should be giving him both sides each time, but i fed him b4 and he fell asleep after one side, even after i burped him ect he was still sleeping, so i put him in his bouncer and hes been asleep for about 30 mins... should i get into the habit of feeding him both sides or just do it how he likes?

Jess- I give Amber both sides. I will burp her after the one side. Then give her the second. She has not been drinking too much during the day and she gets distracted a lot when feeding. But she does tend to fall asleep. Because she slept all night, I woke with these huge rock hard breasts which she drained this morning!
I was just holding her and she went off to sleep. I kept holding her for about 15 or so minutes and she is fast asleep. We have put her down and see what happens.

Question about the basinette. Does anyone who is still using a basinette have a lot of layers under the sheet? The mattress of ours is firm and doesnt feel comfy. I also have the bassinette doona under the sheet. DP was just remarking that when you put her down at the moment her legs are kind of higher than her head... maybe this is uncomfortable for her sleeping?

jen - i just have the bassinette matress and a sheet over that, and then i fold a cloth nappy in half and put it where his head is, good for if he spews or something, dont have to change the sheet! they did it in the hospital and it looked like a great idea lol!
if the matress seems uncomfortable maybe put a sheepskin under the sheet? hmm yer that might be uncomfortable for her, depends how much higher her legs are.. the matress in my basinette doesnt seem very comfortable, its just kinda a plastic thing, cant really explain it but yer he seems to like it!

I think the mattress in the basinette is the same as yours Jess. I do have a sheepskin but it is too big for the bassinette. I might play with her bedding later but at the moment as I speak.... SHE IS ASLEEP!!!!!! I am so proud of my little girl!
Now the next challenge will be to get her to sleep tonight.

We have the radio playing in her room on some easy listening channel at the moment. We are going to get a CD player for her room.

Little Madeleine sleeps on a puffy rug my Mum made, she just won't go straight on her mattress in the cot, it is so hard! With regards to dummies, Madeleine spits hers out sometimes. I only put it through the steriliser every couple of days though. Otherwise, I just pour boiling water on it after a few hours.

    Hope everyone is well...

    Hi ladies,

Thanks for the tips on the dummies. I don't use them very often and was wondering about the whole sterile thing. People seem so paranoid about it. I can understand why but I mean...we don't sterilise our bbs and baby's hands etc....anyway, I better go have some dinner before my angel wakes up. Oh my god, i just realised it's 6.30! geez the days go quickly!

    xx Nik and Amy

Yes Nik, society puts so much stuff into your heads these days! I don't go overboard when it comes to sterilising dummies!

    Hey lovelies,

Yeah, we go a bit overboard with the whole sterelising thing I reckon. No wonder kids get sick these days (touch wood) - they have no damn immune systems.

Jen, Billy's sleeping on a sheepskin in his cot only because we thought he looked uncomfortable. Someone gave it to me for the pram but it's working ok in the cot too. I hope Amber sleeps for you tonight mate.

I was also told to feed from both sides always.

Nik, I hear you on the wipes and stuff. I can't believe how many nappies I'm using! I was going to buy a box yesterday but then I thought he might grow out of them before I use them. Oh who knows!!!

Is everyone using the "cherry" style dummies? I was told to only use those. I noticed the Tomee Tipee ones are latex and can't be sterlised in the microwave. We've been boiling them (only if they hit the ground or if it's been a couple of days) and one has changed colour. Might go get some more and use the Milton solution instead as suggested on the box.

Billy and I have been asleep since about 4pm. OMG, my day is all wrecked now. As in, it feels weird. I really hate sleeping during the day but I so needed it.

I can hear him stirring. I'll be back...

    Hey Ladies,

I can see this being a long post i've got so much to catch up on so i hope you ladies have patience.

Sorry i've been MIA cant remember whether i posted yesterday or the day before, but its been hot here and couldnt be trucked to do much other than lounge around & look after Sophie. My family went home yesterday afternoon after a drama with their car that Chris & I think we fixed between us but i told Dad to get the car looked at by his mechanic as their might be more to it.

I think my engagement ring might still be too tight and need to be sent back to be re-sized, because if i sleep with it on i have a red mark on my finger from the ring when i get up and when i take the ring off my finger feels funny almost like the ring is still on but its not, and my finger doesnt appear to be swollen or anything i'm very confused.

Today has been ok but Sophies been unsettled due to the heat & her temperature was 37.1degrees at one point i didnt bother putting a legless suit on her shes been in a nappy & singlet all day and has hardly been wrapped as she was only fighting her way out or sooking to be unwrapped so i figured why bother.

Nik- Sophies been smiling heaps lately i thought it was because she had wind. Dont worry yourself too much Amy will do things when shes ready, it sounds like she's progressing well. We bought a box of 6 packets of wipes from Woolies the week we got home from hospital and i've got 2 packets left will get more when we go shopping along with anything else i need to stock up on haha.

Jen- sorry to hear Amber will only sleep in your arms and not in her bassinette. I hope Amber is more settled tonight for you. We're still using Sophie's bassinette, we've only got the mattress in it with a sheet on top, the mattress isnt hard but isnt too soft either she loves it.

Maz- PLEASE dont think you have to stay away, were hear to listen & support each other. Good to hear Mat is putting on weight. Good luck with the appointments you have coming up. Did you get the DVD?

QM- thanks for clarifying what infants friend is i will look for it next time i go shopping. Sophie has been a little windy lately probably because we've started using formula when i dont have enough EBM for her.

Kate- i never thought 'poo' would be such a hot topic but we have to talk about something right haha. Sometimes Sophies poo's stink and other times they dont i think it depends whether i've given her EBM or formula. Im not hiding just too hot to do alot and Sophie had a hungry day today had to get Chris to get more formula before he went to work incase i didnt have enough EBM. Hes doing night shift for a week the other person is on holidays.

Well Sophies awake and although she isnt due for a feed until 10pm shes trying to suck her arm off haha so i better go and feed her now.

If i missed anyone i'm sorry will catch you next time i come in here

YAY!!! Hi Jo and Sophie! Glad all is ok. That heat would SUCK! I was complaining the other day when it was 34. I was worried BTK would be too hot as we don't have a/c or anything. I just left him in a nappy and singlet like you did. Too hot for wrapping I reckon.

Write more tomorrow. Going to get in a nap now that he's gone off to sleep. Nanny's been doing the evening feed - she loves it. It's so gorgeous watching them.

Nighty night everyone. I wish good sleep to you all.

Kate- it was Sophie's temperature that was 37.1degrees i've no idea what the actual temperature outside was today was still pretty warm yesterday was pretty bad. The heat does suck!!. Well Sophie due next at 1am so will either head to bed or crash on the lounge havent decided yet, i've been doing the night feeds as Chris has work during the day (usually), but when hes home he'll feed Sophie while im expressing, washing bottles, cooking dinner or anything else. Who knows what time Chris will come home from work he'll go straight to bed i know that much.
