Lis - the weight gane is fantastic, the nurse told me if they gain 100g a week that is perfect, i think Hamish is just a guts. As for being exhausted it is tiring physically and mentally with a newborn. I agree with nana you are doing everything for Emma and it is exhausting. Yesterday was a shocker for me i didnt get in shower until 3pm, no housework got done except dishes. Hamish was really testing me, but i got through it.
Last night he slept like a dream and still is, i fed him at 10pm then he woke at 5.15 and is still asleep now at 9am. Not sure i did anything different other than dp bathed him at around 9pm later than usual, maybe that was it.
Sarah i hope you are all better soon and you dont get sick yourself.
Nana congrats on Aadi weight gain, its good to know bubs is getting enough milk.
Hope everyone had a better night last night.

yay! much better night, though 3 hour sleeps probably dont seem that much better to most of you who are lucky enough to have a baby that sleeps for 5 hours or more! It's an improvement for me, that extra half hour is a blessing, and I look forward to it stretching out a bit more from now on.
The mastitis is almost completely cleared up, which is brilliant. Didn't want to get the prescription filled for antibiotics, coz I know they would have made Aadi unsettled and miserable too. Now to keep on top of the feeding situation so it doesn't happen again...
It seems ironic that after seeing the nurse yesterday and her amazement at how Aadi is always awake, he slept for most of the day after that! Even with me bashing the pram about getting on and off the bus (which was full of noisy schoolkids!), going to the doctors, rushing about in the cold and windy weather and going to the supermarket on the way home! And he even slept long enough for DP and I to eat dinner together, instead of our usual tag-team effort. I hope this is the start of a good thing!
Hey oldmate! nice to have a guy along for the thread. Hope you're picking up some useful pointers from us all, and you avoid some of the troubles before they arise!

Juliette is still all stuffy so nt having much fun here, she just wants to be cuddled most of the time. We're going for a walk soon, so that will technically be the first time I take both kids out by myself. I was thinking of being naughty & driving, but there's no point to drive 10 minutes get all three of us out, check the PO Box & then get back in the car. It's cool, but not too cold today so should be alright.

    hi ladies

Nana good to hear that you had a better night sleep last night. Abbie was ok sleeping last night but she woke up at 12:00 and once i finished feeding her i had not even sat her up yet and she did a massive power vomit all over me. Not too sure why this happened maybe she wasn't hungry who knows?????????

Sarah hope you are all better soon...

Abbie has been ok apart from the power vomit night, she is probably the chuckiest baby i have had. Ican't believe how big she is getting already. Its sad that they grow up so quickly and get their own personality already.

She is getting cranky so i better be off and hope everyone has a great day and a great weekend if i don't make it in on the weekend.

Hi all... wow thread 2 already....

Well had an ok night once i finally got Tiahna to sleep... fed her at 9.30 took me till 11.30 to get her to sleep but she slept til 4.50am... Yay a great sleep for her... then slept til 7.15

Had our 4 week check and Wow what a hige surprise and relief... She has gained 600g since our 2 week check... So happy...

Obviously my concerns about not having enough milk were all in my head... on another note she is now on zantac for silent reflux... hoping this helps her pains after feeds..

LMK- How often does she vomit- could Abbie maybe have reflux if shes vomiting like that??? but good thing is she's gaining weight not likly they'll do much if it is if she's gaining weight.

Nana- yay on the mastitis being almost gone.... and without the meds too..

well GTG sorry no more personals Tiahna just puked on me

Another great night's sleep - 4 HOURS!! I looked at the clock and saw that it was four hours since he went to sleep, and was silently elated... felt so good. OK, so he woke up every 2 hours after that, but it was such a good feeling to get that initial long sleep, I felt like I'd slept 8 hours! We went out in the city earlier, and Aadi was awake the whole time, but I only had to squeeze in one feed, and I changed him on the front seat of the car. DP is looking forward to the time when he can tell Aadi about the time he was butt-nekkid in the middle of Bourke Street on a Saturday! LOL! Since we got home, though, he's been feeding every hour or so, and just napping for 20-40 minutes. He's unstoppable. DP doesn't understand (but is grateful anyway) how I manage to get so much done during the week when I've got a velcro-baby attached to me all the time!

LMK - don't you love those power-vomits?! I got one like a fire-hose right down the inside of my sleeve the other morning. nothing like the feeling of chunky yoghurt in your elbow... ew! I feed Aadi almost upright, and sometimes completely upright lately coz of the blocked milk ducts, and it seemed to help a bit. Although he did a huge burp while still latched on yesterday - ooh that felt yuk!
It is surprising how fast they grow...

Jess - good news on the weight gain. I'm sure your milk supply is just the right amount. Good luck with the reflux treatment. How are you coping?

Sarah - how did your walk go? Hope Juliette's feeling better.

Abb- i'm just feeding on demand ATM... No set time or schedule everyday is different. If Tiahna is sleeping i dont wake her unless its afternoon and she's been sleeping for ages... Its just so she's more awake so at night she'll have a longer sleep... I dont think there is any particular rule...

Tiahna was sleeping in a basinette in our room but only lasted for the first week... she's been quite unsettled at night and i am freaked out at the thought of having her inbetween us in our bed so have tried the pram (lasted a week) and now she's sleeping in the rocker... With the reflux and colic it seems to allow her to sleep for 3 hours without being woken up by wind or throwing up.

Nikki- YAY on Abbie having such an long sleep... Also with the expressing i cant manage to express by hand- hurts after few minutes but the machine i brought (double pump auto one) is great i get about 90ml per side (well both times i have used it) i havent used it for a couple of days as i dont seem to get the let down after... i was thinking of starting to express one side and feed from the other to try to increase the supply a little so when i do express later when i return to work there's plenty there...

I find in the morning Tiahna is the same and only needs the one side and falls back to sleep quite quickly- its between about 2am-4am depending on when i get her to sleep... maybe i should express then also... i find i lose quite al ot in the breast pad as the opposite side i feed from leaks while i'm feeding. I might try to express while she feeds from the other side. .

Abb- thanks for the link very helpful thanks...

well I think i am going to have trouble tonight as I have just had to wake Liam for a feed ( which I really didnt want to do). He fed at 3pm and went to bed about 4pm. He was still asleep at 8pm so I got him up and fed him. He barely woke and went straught back to sleep. I think when he next wakes he wont want to go to bed.... lets hope he isnt awake too long in the middle of the night.

WOW Sass at being back at work. I go back in sept and am dreading it. Yeah on the 7 hrs sleep

Well the night started of AWEFUL... I fed Tiahna at 6.30pm she fussed and fussed and the feed took forever i ended up putting her down and organised dinner but she was a bit unsettled Still. I ended up feeding her again at 8.30 but she still wouldnt settle she was in pain and couldnt burp so i bathed her, massages her, everything i could think of gave her the colic drops but still she was screaming and screaming... By 11.30 i was boping up and down walking round the house feeling like i could RIP MY HAIR OUT!!!

DP walked through the door came in gave Tiahna kisses and she quietened down for few minutes. I fed her again gave her another lot of the colic drops and she did a few AWEFUL FOWL smelling farts, few big burps but she still wouldnt settle down... Midnight came and passed still crying and fussing, arching her back kicking her legs about finally she did a huge poo and another few farts a big vomit so i changed her nappy and clothes and let her cry herself to sleep... She fell asleep at 1.40am

I was exhausted, frustrated and well basically a mess... i then had to shower to get to bed... The good part was she ended up sleeping til 6am so at least i got some sleep...

Today she's been unsettled again but luckily che's sleeping now but DS is sooking and DP is sleeping... just wish DS would sleep so i too can get some sleep...

Tiahna is quite long- some clothes are 000 (mainly all in 1 suits) but things like shirts and pants -no legs are still 0000

Sass- Tiahna sleeps in the rocker as i have tried the basinette elevated and with the snuggle support also the pram elevated and she last all of 15mins -1 hour max (and thats her best time)

It took my DP a while before he was ready for #2 but after being told i couldnt have anymore we realized we wanted more... Were not planning a third just yet but we arent ruling it out... everyone keeps saying now we have a perfect pair we should stop but were still young and i LOVE kids...

Ticklish- Am drinking the camomile tea also giving Tiahna small amount (very weak) recomended by the AHN nothing much seems to help... anyone tried infacol or donnalix??? anything else i can try for getting the wind up???

well last night turned out ok. Liam woke at 11 just as I was getting into bed, typical. He wasnt due for feed till midnight so I got up and layed him under playmat whilst I watched tele for a while. Then I fed him and let him lay there a bit longer till he looked tired. I think we both got to bed about 12.30. He then woke at 3.30 for a feed and then just after 7.30 so was a pretty good night all up I think.
Liam has been good today, he has self settled for each sleep which is excellent, I dont think I had Jordan self settling at this age. He has just gone down now from his 3 feed so will have a few hours before the next feed is due. Jordan hasnt napped today so he will have an early night I think.

Jess sorry to hear you had an awful night. I hope you get some well deserved rest in somewhere.

Sarah can you please tell Juliette to send some of that good sleeping to Liam, thats excellent overnight sleeping.

Sassy Liam is in 000 although some of the suits are getting small, he cant straighten his legs in some all in ones. Bugger about being back at work. I am back on 1st sept. Being back at work just means you treasure the moments you are with your kids more. some people need to work and you are doing it for your kids so dont worry too much about it.

Ticklish I am not getting any pain on my scar now, dont realise its there really. I guess everyone heals diff though. WOW at feeding every 2 hrs during the day. How are you getting anything done?

Well better go and prepare dinner, DH has just left work so want to have it pretty much ready as he walks in the door.

jess: i tried infacol it didnt seem to do much and donnalix i was told to give it to her when she is really bad but i dont think it does much. the thing i found that has worked the best is infants friend. and u can give it more then the other medications because it is mostly natural stuff i think. also i was told to try to encourage the dummy cause while they r sucking on it they r keeping the acid down. it really helps jayda but she doesnt know how to hold it in when she is having a break from sucking.

sarah: way to go with the sleeping.

deancey: it doesnt really work like that for me cause i work with kids all day when i am tired i am cranky and just want dh to take her to give me a break. i guess it is cause she sooks as soon as i try to cook tea or have a bath. i suppose that is wat being a mummy means....... no more me time lol

    Hi Everyone,

I know I've been MIA for a while. I do feel slack but we've not had a good week. On Tues morning I noticed a swelling in Aidan's groin region (above his "bits"). I was a little concerned so rang our paediatrician. Of course she was away but there was another standing in for her and he was kind enough to stay back after hours to see us. He diagnosed Aidan with an inguinal hernia - apparently 3% of boys get them and a higher percentage of premi's. Luckily the paediatric surgeon was in the area and came by and gave us a surgical consult on the spot.

So on Wed arvo my poor little man had surgery. They repaired both sides - the left was the worst and the right was just starting to herniate. Normally its a day surgery procedure but because Aidan technically isn't 42wks gestation yet we had to stay in hosp overnight for monitoring. He's recovered really well - he's on Panadol 4hrly (which is that really gross "cherry" flavour so he really hates that). He's been quite unsettled tonight so I'm guessing his poor little tummy is sore. The worst part of the whole thing was that he had to fast before the GA. I was told to feed him at 9:30am then be at the hosp by 1pm. When I got there the anaesthetist said the surgey should be at 3pm..... Aidan didn't get taken in until 4:30pm! Needless to say he was not happy. He was absolutely starving - it was pretty upsetting but I did ok. Luckily he dropped off to sleep just before they took him from me for the surgery - if he'd been screaming then I think I would have totally lost the plot.

Anyway, I'll catch up on all the posts soon. I hope everything's going really well with your bubs and the feeding and sleeping is going really well. Aidan's 4.3kg now so in that department we're going great guns!

    Have a great night everyone!

Oh you poor thing and poor little Aidan... good thing you got it quickly and he's on his way to recovery... for you both.... how scarey it must have been for you my son had an operation for tonsils, grommets and adnoids at 2 and i thought that was bad but your little man is so tiny and precious... i would have been a wreck...

And no feeding for him must have been tourchure... you and he sound like you did really well under the circumstances... hope things are going well with you both now

Well we actually had a good night last night... Although we had difficulty getting tiahna to sleep she was finally sound asleep by a fantastic 11.30pm (great for her)woke up again at 3 back asleep by 4 woke up at 6 back asleep by 7 then wpke up at 9am and back asleep by 10... so doing well today... boob still quite sore but getting better

Well DP just left for work- Tiahna's worst time of the night and i'm on my own for a while. Fed her at 8.30 and she fell asleep at 9.15 so i thought BONUS... But as soon as i put her in the rocker she woke up... GRRRRRR!!!!

Sass- I'm using the infants friend but its just making her farts smell worse then usual... (and there bad enough) Like it helps her pass the wind eventually but it takes ages to work so not sure if its working like it should or if its just passing on its own...

also i was told to try to encourage the dummy cause while they r sucking on it they r keeping the acid down
have heard that dummies encourage more wind and as for the acid thats more of a reflux thing... well thats what i've been told...

Tiahna refuses a dummy any way... i try everyday but still hates every kind i have brought... Think i'm in for yet another aweful evening... she's been going since last feed and i have given her reflux meds before 1 fed her again- changed her and then given her the infants friend and she's still screaming and fussing about... she just cant bring the wind up... i'm going to let her cry for a while to wear herself out and hopefully i can get DS into bed.... been trying since 8 and he still wont stay in bed... GRRRRRRR
