Viv - you crack me up!! Can totally relate to the MIL doing your housework, happens here all the time and gives me the irrits beyond belief! She's got a good heart though and helps us out a lot with the kids - and basically I don't have a choice cause they're the only family we have around!!

    Yay Toowoomba!!!!!!

Morning all (or should I say afternoon!)
Viv- I would soooo love it if someone came and folded up my washing!! I am sure I could do without the attitude but if my MIL wants to come and fold up my washing she is more than welcome!! I can easily shut her talking out! God either of my MIL's are welcome to come do it.
Caitlyn is back to waking every 3 hours. She isnt hungry every three hours. But I put her to bed at 615 last night and she woke right at the end of Grays anatomy. I wrapped her arm back in and gave her her dummy and she took about 10 mins to go back to sleep. Then she was up at 1215 for a feed and then at 315 for a talk. I ended up wrapping both her arms in and she went to sleep about 5 mins later and didnt wake again until 615 - in her bed! I couldnt believe her accuracy with the times. I know each time it was actually around 16 or 17 past the hour. Was very strange.
Saffi- That is what C was like before I started her on solids. I started her on farex at first with formula mixed in. A VERY little amount - one spoon. Now she has pumpkin, sweetcorn, apple and am going to try some potato and then carrots over the next 2 weeks. Her diet is very varied. I would have started he on carrots this week but I had a little disaster yesterday - fell asleep while they were steaming and burnt the bottom of the pot. But I do have some potato in the freezer.
Celtic-I dont know if i suggested this already but C didnt like farex with just water - it had to be with formula.
And I cant remember who was talking about spoons but my sister used to work with babies for 7 years and she said the heinz baby basics ones are the best for them. Bit more flexible and they can chew on them (or stick them in their eye as C likes to do).
Anyway - am on my meal replacement diet from today. Got a herbalife one given to me by a friend and took one sip and spat it out - was revolting. So I got one from woolworths - chocolate. Will satisfy my choc cravings with that over easter I think.
Oooo what a selfish post - sorry guys.
Hope you are all having a great day - mwah

Trish - you bugger! All this talk about Ergo's made me curious so I've been checking them out and they look great!! Put L in our bjorn this morning for playgroup (2 hours) and he's just getting too heavy for my shoulders (I've got a dodgy shoulder too). How did you find them to get on and off? Are they easy to do on your own? I want something good but something that's easy to get on and off, that's why I love our bjorn.

Convincing DH to buy one will be another thing seeing that they're a bit pricey...maybe if I sell my bjorn and my ring sling (which I haven't used for weeks cause it's too hard to work out on my own), he might let me...

saffi - are you eating enough? i know i certainly wasn't. since i've started hogging it back, my supply is better (after his suckathon the other day with the bopping and screaming)

    Evening all!

We had another pretty dodgy night last night with K sneaking another feed in so I thought I'd try him on a bottle of formula before bed at around 7pm. He sucked enthusiastically for a few seconds then decided he didn't like it . Such a waste. So I pulled out my breast pump I've been holding onto just in case and decided to try expressing and then I'll top him up tomorrow night. I didn't think I'd get much because it is the end of a hot day (my feet are swollen btw!) and I managed to express 140ml in around 15 minutes. I have no idea if this is good or not! I thought it seemed like a lot seeing as it is later in the day. It is an Ameda double electric breast pump so it was mega-efficient. How much should I be giving him? I'm just hoping it will help solve the hunger problem seeing as he has reacted to the Farex. Time will tell I guess!

Willow - Hee hee, sorry to mention the Ergo! It seemed pretty easy to put on, but I think it will take a bit of practise. It comes with a DVD to show you how to put it on, but the website also has a demo. You wouldn't believe me I'm sure, but I have a dodgy shoulder too! I had a work accident about 13 years ago that damaged my left shoulder and my lower back/pelvis so I really need a carrier that doesn't aggravate things. When they arrive I'll let you know what I think!

Rebecca - Is your DH back from working away? If so, how did you survive?

Viv - It's frustrating when you have a little pattern of sleep going and then they decide to get unsettled on you! Luckily K was much better today, I think it was the Farex that was upsetting him. I hope not, I want to try it again soon. Did your MIL fold your laundry for you? LOL, I would hate that too!

Saffi - It sounds like Lachlan might be ready for solids too! I hope you have better luck than me with them.

Alz - Yay, I'm so glad Ethan is sleeping better for you!!! I hope he keeps it up for you

Julia - GL with weaning Max! I remember how freeing it was when Joel weaned. It was great to be able to go out without worrying.

Celtic - That's so awesome your DP got the promotion! I love your new ticker pic btw, so gorgeous!

Hi to everyone else, have a great night!

Trish - 140mls at that time of the day is an awesome effort!! I'd say he'd have around 100mls, maybe a bit more. That's been my experience with EBM so far anyway.

L has been a lot more settled today too thankfully! Took him to the osteo again today and she said he's improved that much she doesn't want to see him for a month

Ahhh, there's one difference - my dodgy shoulder is my right shoulder!! LOL.

Trish - 140mls in 15 mins is amazing. It takes me about an hour to get that much. Mind you I am using an Avent single electronic one. That and my dodgy supply really makes the whole expressing thing an effort. I would think using the calc (weight in kilos x 150mls / no. feeds per day) would tell you how much he should have.
Viv - no I'm not underfed. I think that perhaps I am not BF'ing/ expressing enough and hence supply is low. Very off-putting when L screams when I put him on the boob. Doesn't mind the EBM mind you so its just me he has problems with

Intro of solids - has anyone given their bubs rusks or other things to suck on before starting the farex? The Robin Barker book I have suggests this before starting solids for real.

MIL suggested that a way of getting L to sleep thru is to give him water when he wakes overnight. She said he'd soon learn not to wake up because he won't get any food. DH reckons I need to feed him because he is hungry. I usually BF him at 3amish. He will then only sleep thru to around 5 - 6am. So thinking that tonight I will give him 200mls formula or EBM if I have enough and see if that knocks him out until 7am.

oh viv feel for you. but when my Mil comes over she does all my ironing! i now dont take it as an insult that i cant do it cause truth be known i am a crap ironer!! so i dont deliberatly pile it up for her but she will do what ever amount is there when she comes over.... she is not a celan/tidy person so wouldnt touch anything else but one thing she seems to like doing is washing and ironing, i'm really just easing her fix lol!!
just think one day we will be the MIL and probably irrate the boys wive's too

oh yes i found the camera, was never lost, dh found it in his suit pants when we unpacked the bag lol.
Trish like the others have said 140ml is really great.
alz- i hope weaning from the boob goes well, if he's already taken a bottle of forumla without spitting it out thats a good start! just watch for changes in poos and reactions to make sure he's system is settle with it. you've done a great job in bf thus far!

willow- thats great news wth the osteo!

Saffi - I agree with your DH hun. I think if L is waking at the same time every night, and it is at least 3-4hrs after his last feed, then he's hungry. That's why I haven't bothered trying to get my L to sleep through. He's obviously not ready if he's waking for feeds and I'd rather give him a quick feed, pop him back into bed and be asleep again 10 mins later myself than trying to resettle a hungry baby in the middle of the night. Just not worth it IMO, and if he's really hungry, he probably wouldn't settle for long anyway. I did use the water trick with DD, but not until she was older.

Trish-No DH only left on Saturday - should be back this coming saturday.
I'm sorry but yet again this is going to be a selfish post.
My normal work hours are 10-3 which is ok cause I get a little done in the morning and a little done in the afternoon before i pick miss C up. Yesterday my boss asked if Icould work 830-130 instead. Great I thought - do not a lot in the morning and really hook into that dreaded study and give it a clean.
So i get to daycare to get C and they tell me that her eye has been gucky ALL DAY!!! and that I have to keep her home tomorrow (today). I dont mind that I have to keep her home i understand completely. What I dont understand is why the heck didnt they call me and tell me that I had to come get her if its that bad? As it is....I can't take the day off to be with her today cause there is only 4 of us in the office and the boss is going to Mt Isa to fly to brisbane to do a conference and one of the other girls has to drive her there! So that leaves me and one other girl! She can't lift due to a work injury. So of course I have to take C to work with me. The girl driving the boss toMt Isa was going to do a few personal things while there but she has been fantastic and said that she would just come straight back. Of course in this *****hole little town with one Doc's surgery I doubt I am even going to be able to get her in to see anyone today.....maybe if I had known yesterday! They know I pick her up around 5! Not impressed at all!!
What *****s me even more........I had no problems with her eye over the weekend! Not at all. No red, or weeping of yukky stuff - nothing. 7 hours at d/care and its red, weeping and glued shut!!! Surely they are supposed to call me!! Oh if the situation were reversed and soem other kid had a gukky eye and my kid went to daycare with them I would be asking why is that kid still here with that?!!? Its highly conagious. Oh and of course she has caught a cold too! All while DH is away.
Oh but she slept well last night - 730-430. Then a feed and back to bed - she has just woken now - off to clean her eye and give her a feed and get her ready to go to work! Oh and me!!! have a great day all! MWAH

Woo hoo! I'm connected! Got a whopping big dish on the roof, hope it doesn't upset the banjo players all the way out here.

Will try and stay up to date.

Anyone got any tips on re-settling after first 45min sleep cycle? She self settles initially but i can't, for the life of me, get her to go back to sleep if she wakes after one sleep cycle. I know she's still tires b/c she's grumpy! All advice welcome.

Sorry to be a right royal PITA. But have another Q. Lu is an absolute piggy. LOVES food. She has had rice cereal and water, pumpkin and banana. She will eat 2 Tablespoons full and cry when it is finished because she wants more. Not sure her GI tract is reay for more. How much should i give her?

Trish There is no way i could express that much. Nice work. I gave her rice cereal and water b/c expressing is a PITA and i have never been bale to get alot. On the topic of a meet up, i still drive to Frankston regularly, and am only an hour from Melbourne, so could easily meet up sometime. Would you mind pm'ing me your website details so i can check it out? Have disabled signatures and images etc on PC until i work out my download usage and costs with satellite.

Saffi- i give Luella one of those mesh bag things with ice or banana in it, she loves chewing on it. Havn't given her a rusk. Sounds like a good idea to me though, she loves chewing on stuff.

viv- Ouch, toe drama with sleep deprivation might have tipped me over the edge. Thanks for suggesting to someone else about eating enough. I THINK i wasn't eating enough and supply was low. (Too worried about muffin top, not worrying about baby. selfish mumma) So now feeding face again in hope of boosting supply. Gave her a sample sachet of formula the other day, guzzled it like it was liquid gold. Pharmacy here has a few samples, did you get hold of some other ones? Natropath in my mothers group recommended Caricare goat formula. Goat is apparently closer in structure to human breast milk than cows'. Gentler on their stomachs......

    Willow-
When i was weaning Lu from Wrap i put her in a sleeping bag and wrapped over the top. Both arms, then one arm out. Then both out for day sleeps, then no wrapping just sleeping bag every sleep. She then got used to the idea that sleeping bag meant sleep.

Rebecca- I'd be asking child care to let me know if there are ANY probs in the future. Hope today is better and the sticky eye resolves. (I think i read someone got an over the counter med for gunky eye type thing from pharmacy, might be worth asking.....)

Sorry for marathon post, have alot of catching up to do.

falguni - i've been to 3 chemists and no formula samples. *grumble* will try to get onto the goat thing. about eating - yep, i was guilty of dropping back to my usual diet.... d'oh. he ate all but my muffin top, which, i'm told, stays as emergency backup until you stop bf. i was bones mcgee all over except muffin top. he's much happier now that i'm wolfing back the food.

saffi - the nurse said to me that lots of babies are hungry at night. james won't hear of being resettled if he's been asleep for 3+ hours. he always does a full feed so i know he's not just dummy sucking. he does a 5 hour stint now so i'm guessing the extra cereal and supply is making the difference.

about MIL - i had done everything this time so there was nothing for her. i am grateful she does the folding because i don't have to do it, but i do sense a bit of on her behalf. they played paddy cake and round n round the garden yesterday. he was transfixed.

i want to know what y'all call your baby. i have a ridiculous list and i wonder if i'm confusing him:

    james
    tamu
    cheeny
    mr cheeny
    mr cheeky
    cheeky nana
    beautiful one
    cutie
    baba ganoush
    little man
    little guy

    and it goes on...

what identity issues are you giving your kid?

about nappies. sigh. so, he's in mamias at night but they just can't cope with his rolling around. i don't know what to do. some nights he won't move so much and he'll make it through, other nights he'll wake up because it's leaked and cold. any suggestions? i think the leg guards aren't so good when he's on his side (where he spends most of his time). heeeelp.

do you think fluffy covers or pilchers would help?

    Hello everyone,

Ryan rolled twice yesterday by himself! The dr said he probably wouldnt roll till late because he has a lot of weight to pull with him, ha! Those fat lil thighs jut up in the air that arse gets a wriggling and woop over he goes in a few rocks! He's currently on his side mauling the arm of his playmat (has the two crossing bars with dangly toys, the bars going to be very soggy soon!)

Viv-LOL how did the white bunny survive? Is it now missing some ears? Personally I loove milk and dark choccy not a big fan of the while but chocolate is chocolate in a crisis! Can you put a lock on the linen press? Maybe she'll get the hint! Dp's mum talks over the top of you and is ALWAYS right when it comes to babies. She wouldn't let me burp Ryan on a cot matress protector she said over the shoulder but now all I need to do is lay Ryan on his 'burpies mat' and he burps himself... mums know whats best for their bubbies!

Rebecca- yeah I was giving him Farex and formula but he loved it some days and gagged and spat it back at me others, apple by itself he loves so I just added some Farex in water to it because really I was just lazy lol and I didn't want to alter the taste of the apple too much incase. He has about 6 spoonfuls and I think 3-4 make it down hehe. He doesn't chuck it back up either.

You poor thing the exact same thing happened to Ryan and just as his eye cleared up I go to the daycare and theres the culprit! A little girl with gunky eyes who...WIPES HER EYE THEN POKED RYAN IN THE EYE!!! Next day it's red and gunked and he's on antibiotics to accompany the eyedrops because its that swollen!! I kept Ryan home and the daycare didn't understand why?? Then he had a cough and was cranky and they rung and said he was completely unmanageable and I had to go get him there and then and I get there and he's fine because he just did a big poo and wasn't cranky anymore!

Nickers- lol yes you are just doing her a service leaving all that lovely ironing she's just twitching to do! Hehe *whispers* can I leave my ironing there too? Think she'll notice?

Trish- how was last night? Thank you I have a really cute one I wanted to use but it's too big and I can't resize it on this computer and my other comp died so I still havent reinstalled photoshop yet.

Anyone here play online World of Warcraft? DP plays it constantly, 24/7 weekends and from an hour after he gets home (I make him play with Ryan for an hour) till 2am every day. Anyways I sometimes play and he wanted me to help him kill this boss in the game and a big ridable bird dropped as the reward everyone has to roll and the highest roll wins, guess who won... MWHAHAHAHA me, DP's annoyed because out of the thousands of people that play I'm the 3rd person to get it because it's that rare it never drops and I don't play that much and he plays all the time. So yet again I say... MWHAHAHAHAHA yes I'm sadistic.

Arg bum change time bbl lol

    Hey all!

Another el'dodgy night last night. I ended up giving K the EBM because he woke up before his dreamfeed was due and I hadn't replenished enough yet. Joel woke at 11pm and 12am wanting a drink (DH had taken it out of his room for some reason ) and K woke up at 1:15am. I couldn't settle him so I tried to feed him, but he screamed and screamed. I realised at that hour that I have a sore throat and a runny nose so I can only assume K had a sore throat too. After an hour or so he was calm enough to feed, but only fed for a few minutes so I don't think he was hungry. He finally went back to sleep at 3am, but woke again at 5am for his proper feed . He then woke on and off all morning until I got him up at 7am.

Joel went to kinder this morning so I got a little catnap in while he was gone. I gave K a teaspoon of Farex before *crosses fingers*. His rash has gone and the MCHN told me to try a teaspoon of it again when the rash clears up. Hopefully he doesn't react as badly this time. I have also just cooked some potato and will try him on some tonight.

So anyway, some sleep wouldn't go astray right about now!

Mo - Good suggestion about two nappies!

Viv - I used to use plastic pilchers for Joel when he leaked every night. They worked well most of the time. Some nicknames for K: spunkface, bubbadub, many others, but can't think of them right now! Joel ended up with a million nicknames and he didn't have an idenitity crisis lol!

Celtic - Yay for Ryan rolling! What a clever boy! K doesn't roll very often because he is such a heavy boy, but he has rolled twice today so far!

Ange - Hooray for getting back online! Hopefully we will have a meet-up soon so we can meet you in person! I will PM you my website details soon

Rebecca - Bummer your DH is away for so long. I hope Caitlyn's eye gets better soon the poor thing.

Nic - I wouldn't say no if someone came and did my ironing! It is the job I loathe the most.

Saffi - Thanks for the EBM calculations! Re: rusks, I don't think you're meant to give them to your bub until 6 months because of what is in them, but I could be wrong. You could always check with your MCHN. I didn't start with rusks and I haven't had a problem with K eating - the little guts! I have had the reaction problem though.

    Willow
    - Yay for L being more settled again! They like to throw in a dud day every now and then don't they! That's great you don't have to go back to the osteo for a while.

    Have a great day everyone!
