Viv - I bought our Rafferty's in Safeway (Woolworths), Ange described the packet exactly. How many naps a day does James have for you and what time do you put him to bed at night? I find it hard to only have 3 naps a day when he only does 40 minutes, it's a killer trying to stretch him out!

Ange - I'm so glad the aquarium resettles her! Maybe I should have kept it and tried it on K (just kidding )! I have another cot toy that I haven't used for a while, I might buy some more batteries and try it out on K again.

    Hi Everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted for a while. Been feeling down in the dumps lately so haven't felt like doing much at all.

Ethan is sleeping fairly well. Still not sleeping through but only waking once a night which is great. He is still not fussed on solids but that is ok.

I am sure that he is teething so he is a cranky little bub but I suppose it all comes with the territory.

Well I have made it back to my pre-pregnancy weight at long last but am still 1 size too big. Doc has told me that I still need to lose some weight for my liver's sake but it is not working too well. She now has me on this really boring diet which eliminates anything tasteful!!!! What upsets me th most is that I thought that I was doing the right thing and eating well but now I really can't have much at all. SO SAD!! Oh well, in 6 months we are going to try for another baby anyway so I only have to put up with it till then.

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

    Hi Everyone

Saturdays must be the clingy, whingy day of the week coz Max is beeing a real poo!

Just happens I want to get things done and DH is doing the majority of the minding and he's getting annoyed coz he just wants to watch footy...te he...try telling him it's hard to entertain Max...he can't last for 10 mins without telling Max he's being annoying!

I think I'm coming down with a cold or something, feeling VERY average. Not to mention I think I'm PMSing...I want to do a biggest loser style binge on chocolate! sigh!

Well ladeez, my little lady has cut a tooth!
I was thinking she was just getting older, more alert and therefore a little grizzly, but noooo i failed to notice she has a tooth which has cut through her lower gum. It all becomes clear....... nappy rash, waking in the night, grizzly. So, no need to give her back, all is ok! \

alz- here is a great place to be when you feel down in the dumps!

Oh and regarding weight, i don't know what was wrong witht he scales i stood on , but unfortunately when i got on the scales at mum i am NO WHERE near pre preg weight. At least it explains why my clothes still don't fit!!! Still another 7kg's to shed. Ah well. it's slowly coming off. Just another reason for me to keep bf'ing.

    Hi All,

We also have TOOTH!!!! Yesterday it appeared. No warning really except maybe a bit clingy and buckets of drool. LOL, she is so cruisy.

Julia - Don't worry, we also have a stationary lump here! She gets up on the hip if she REALLY wants something but no rolling.....sigh

Thanks for the lovely comment Willow , if they don't sell Amara will have some purty nappies!

Played soccer today arrggghhhhh I am old, fat and unfit waaaaaaaaaaa!!! We did win BUT it was sad playing against kids that were LESS than half my age. What was I thinking?

Made Jamie Olivers slow roasted lamb for dinner OMG!! it was divine!

    Night all,

    Morning all

Things plodding along here. Nothing too exciting happening. Ho hum...

Congrats to all the bubs teething. Hopefully they are treating the mummies well while its happening. No signs of a second tooth cutting through here. Rash on the bot has all but gone, still doing pooey nappies, but no other adverse signs.

Going to a workshop this week on intro to solids. Looking forward to it.

As I said very dull here. Going off to be boring somewhere else. LOL

so can we say that nappy rash at the current time is likely to be part of the teething set of problems?

little boy has a bot rash and some little red spots elsewhere. i see what they mean about all these different symptoms. he has the drool cough, excessive drool, increased reflux, the rash, irritability, sleep disturbance, clinginess and... the list goes on.

i wonder at what point i should take him to see his quack. i just hope he pops these fangs soon.

for those of you whose bubs have popped, did they go back to normal afterwards? he ended up sleeping in my arms on the couch from 4am to 6am. every time i put him back in his cot before that he just fussed for 20 minutes and started crying again. teething must really suck. i'm glad i don't remember it. DH says he does remember it from when he was about 2 or something. how weird is that?

also, does anyone have the clean shopper trolley cover? i'm looking at getting one. do they have to be self-supported sitting before they can use it?

yay for Amara and Luella on their first teeth, the 2nd's might not be far behind! Tyrons second one came through about 3days after the first.
i wouldnt be surprised if this boy wakes up with 4 teeth! he's drooled enough to bath in it today and loos like either side of the bottom two he already has are getting ready to come through....
i would have thought the top oens would be next.

Trish- your doing a fantastic job, you can take the "super mum" crown! Tyron is a good night sleeper but only does short 30-40 cat naps during the day.

dont worry about Max not rolling, not all bubs are rollers, Nixon never was. He didnt do it for the first time until about 5months but never really did it again till he could sit and crawl.

meant to be taking the boys to a circus tomorrow... tix were free so will c how we go o/n and the weather, im not that keen to go but i know Nixon will enjoy it (until a certain point then prob play up!)

Viv- ive been looking at getting one of them recently aswell! never had one for Nixon, i used to just put a towell or spew cloth in it with him

Viv - L is still doing more pooey nappies than normal, but the redness is gone. Don't think there is as much drool but hard to tell as he slobbers all the time. Don't know if the disturbed sleep is due to teething or just a phase. I guess if you are concerned take him to the Drs. For us it took about a week from the first lot of nappies to cutting through, tho I've heard it can take weeks.

I have seen a lot of bubs in those trolley seat covers lately. They seem to be older bubs so I suspect that being able to sit up independently would be required. I have seen bubs strapped in using the harnesses that some newer trolleys have now, so at least they can't topple over.

Ange - is Lu crawling? Wow, if she is. L is making some attempts to, he is doing 180 tummy spins which is cute.

L is starting to wear 00 clothes. He is pretty long so a lot of the jumpsuits don't fit him in the legs but are fine over the rest of him. After at least 3 months in 0000 he has grown out of 000 really quickly.

    Going off to watch SYTYCD.

Thanks Nic I'm not too worried about Max not rolling, but he just lies there like a lump compared to the other babies at Mothers Group. I guess it's hard to not compare them to others, even though you shouldn't.

Teeth Congrats to all those with their pearly white(s). Max still has some symptoms, but nothing through as yet. The CHN was the one who told me he was teething, but I am not that sure.....he does love to suck, bite and has had rashy bum and more poo's of late....a fair bit of drool too....She told me at his 5 month appointment...he's six months next week.... Again, I guess everyone is going to be different! He clamps his mouth shut as soon as I try and look in there too...cheeky begger!

Question I'm going to start solids with Max next week...YAY...I managed to hold off till 6 months. I have tested him with a bit of rice cereal in the past but he doesn't seem to rate it. If he didn't like it for some bizzare reason (although it doesn't look too appetising to me) what else can I try first? Would you try a veg like carrot or pumpkin? or should I try mixing something else in with the rice cereal? OR should I just keep giving it to him till he likes it!!?

my sister's advice for solids was to mix it all with a bit of EBM so it has a ring of familiarity about it. no baby can resist....

i think i'll mix for a while just to make it a smoother transition. we're starting officially in 2 weeks. better organise his high chair and stuff.

    Good morning everyone!

Unfortunately Kieran and Joel didn't get the memo that daylight savings finished and were up far too early this morning, blurrgghh! Well, we had our best night yet last night (since the earlier days that is), K went to bed at 7:15pm, had a dream feed at 10pm and slept without waking once until 5:15am! I fed him, but he didn't really go back to sleep properly so we got up at 6:30am. It was nice to have such a big block of unbroken sleep! I am actually dreaming at night again, I haven't had dreams for ages because I could never get into a really deep sleep (I'm usually a vivid dreamer), but now they are back!! So it has taken 5 nights of some minor controlled crying (I haven't left him alone and I comforted him after 5 minutes) and by night 6 he has slept through, hooray! He woke up happily for his morning feed so I can only guess that my persistance has paid off. Hopefully he will learn to sleep a bit later soon

Alz - Sorry you have been feeling a bit down lately . Re: losing pregnancy weight - I lost all of mine the first time around and like you was still a size bigger in clothing. I think it is because our bodies broaden to accomodate bubs. You will eventually get a bit closer to your normal size, but if you're planning on another bub in the near future it may not happen for a while yet.

Julia - I hope you're not coming down with a cold, there is nothing worse than having a clingy bub and not feeling well yourself. I've been there a lot lately! Re: solids, I mixed some pumpkin and sweet potato in with K's rice cereal the other day, but if you want to give him vegies straight, it won't hurt. You decide!

Ange - Congrats on Lu cutting a tooth!!! What a clever girl! Hopefully she will be nice and happy for a while before she cuts her next one. Don't worry about weight loss just yet, it took me 9 months to lose all of mine after I had Joel. My theory is that it took 9 months to put it on, so it should take at least 9 months to lose it again! By the time Lu is 12 months old I'm sure you will be back to your normal self. Though I'm sure you still look great anyway!

Leah - Congrats on Amara's tooth too! I am so impressed that you manage to look after two girls, sew nappies and play soccer!

Saffi - Have fun at the workshop. I can tell you are one of those people who love cooking, I wish I did, but I loathe it. I only do it because I HAVE to! Lachlan is lucky to have a mum who loves making food!

Viv - It sounds like James is teething to me. Can you get your MCHN to poke around in his mouth to check? I'm thinking of calling mine and asking is she can check K's mouth out. When Joel was teething he would go back to normal as soon as the tooth cut the surface. Then we'd go through it all again! He usually had two bad nights, then a tooth would appear. You can use those trolley seat covers as soon as bub is able to sit up in a normal trolley seat. I think Joel was around 6 months old when he could sit up in one of those seats.

Nic - Thanks! I don't feel like super-mum atm. I feel like a bit of a failure to be honest! I am so disappointed in myself that I haven't been coping very well. I'm usually pretty good at holding things together! Hope you and the boys have fun at the circus!

Mo - How did the move go? Are you all settled in?

I have recently lost another 2kgs so I only have 2 more to go to be pre-preg weight. That means I have lost 19 kilos! That sounds like such a huge amount of weight, yikes!

Anyway, better go, K is in his Jolly Jumper and I suppose I should get him out. I'm trying to get one of those exersaucers to plonk him in for a change of scenery. He gets so frustrated just playing on the floor after a while.

    Have a great day all!

    *Blaaaaah*

Sleep has definitely taken a dive around here....very frustrating because I had just started feeling really good about our sleep and felt like we had things sorted. I really hope it's teeth, although can't see anything yet so not pinning my hopes on it.

After 5 months, I'm starting to get a bit sick of the broken sleep...only hope that once he's on solids he starts to sleep through. If not, might have to use some of your tactics Trish (congrats on such a big sleep! I can only dream of that around here...). I promised myself I wouldn't force the issue until he was on solids and a bit older.

willow - i'm with you on that. the monkey is not sleeping particularly well but i'm not going to start any kind of aggressive 'sleep-through' strategy until he's on solids and i'm sure he doesn't really need a night feed. he's pretty into it at the mo and will let the neighbourhood know if i try and resettle him.

when are we supposed to give breastfed babies extra water? when they start solids? when they're drooling so much to replace lost fluid? and... how much?

    Morning all

Willow - I hear ya on the sleep.
We got L up at 10pm last night and DH looked after him while I went to bed. I think he put him down at around 11.30. I was up to him at 2am, and a few times after that for the dummy, then at 5.30am. I have been having weird dreams so I am getting into REM sleep but just not that deep comatose sleep. Hoping solids will help.
DH will be taking the night shift when I go back to work in a month, but after that I hope L is sleeping through as I don't want to be up during the night and then have to face work.

Trish - Sprung! Yes, I am a bit of a foodie but to be honest I love eating more than cooking, so it is more a means to an end. Also since being at home I have watched practically every episode of Ready Steady Cook (both versions) and Hughies Cooking Adventures so I have heaps of inspiration.
WTG on dropping so much weight! Thats amazing! Well done! Been going in the opposite direction myself with the weight lately. Now that I am not pregnant or breastfeeding I guess I have to watch the calories. Was nice not to worry about weight for a year!

Day at home today. Got washing and ironing to do. Ho hum...

Viv - no, not really, but then I have never exclusively BF him. I noticed that when I started doing more FF than BF, he put on a lot of weight and slept better.

I still express and get around 150mls a day. Have noticed over the last few days not a lot of milk in there even with the meds. I think I am just flogging a dead horse keeping this expressing thing going. It takes up to an hour to get very little and frankly is time that could be spent doing other things. As I am back to work soon it is probably best to wean him completely so I don't have to worry about my supply and how I can express etc.
