Hmm, bit hard to remember what was going on in the last thread...
Toddlers hitting - I've had at least one in every class of toddies I've ever had (or a biter) Sometimes it's just because it gets an interesting reaction from a) person being hit, b)mum/dad/teacher. Kind of like an experiment in cause and effect LOL It's very frustrating though (Autie's cousin, 23m, is currently doing this to Autie a lot) It's very hard to stop them usually. A quick bottom smack for shock value can sometimes work (not that I ever did that to kids I cared for) but understandably, many people don't want to follow that path so the next best thing is silent removal to a place where they get no attention whatsoever (cot, room, highchair) and ignore for about 2mins at this age. Honestly, it's just a hard age and you might just have to stay close until they outgrow it.
Megan, must be tricky living with others. Do you have your own space? Just keep thinking about the wonderful new house you'll have soon!
Jas, are you pregnant? Whoohoo! Crap, my memory sucks! I hope it's you - if not, I apologize to all involved.
Em, thanks for asking after us.
Oh, I give up. My memory is sooooo bad. Can we all do a quick catch up on our lives to get this new thread going?
For us: We have entered the tantrum stage and Autie is ever so good at making them last whole car trips She's over her chest infection during which we found she is allergic to penicillen. Loves climbing and running free in shopping centres. Six and half teeth. Not many words that anyone else can understand. Eating and sleeping is up and down but generally ok. Same-same for us family wise except just found out my mum has cancer in her neck and has to be removed this week, then radiation. That's a bit crap of course but trying to stay positive. Autie has graduated to the next swimming class. Think that's about it for us. We don't live a thrilling life obviously LOL
Congrats to all that are expecting again!! Hope all is well
I like the starting over, as I have missed HEAPS, quick recap would be great!
Re Hitting: Olivia has been doing this for sometime now and she doesn't stop when I say No, so I may try just putting her in a room by herself for a bit, although she tends to like her own space, so would else could I try??
Recap on us: Olivia is STILL NOT WALKIN!!! 15 months today and I really want her to now as the older she gets. She is walking more around furniture, and on us, she will walk around us to get to the next bit. She often stands but not for long. She says heaps of words, so maybe the saying either a walker or a talker is true as she doesn't shut up!! She is terrific though, she has 7 teeth now, great sleeper, I have her down to 1 sleep a day and she has worked into that perfectly....she even sleeps in till 8:30am, yesterday morning was 9:45!!!
We are currently in the process of selling the house, photos are being taken on Friday night and then its all systems go, can't wait!! We are moving closer to DH work, family and friends, not that we were far away just hated travelling on the freeway.
Well hope all is well, will try and be back tomorrow.
Sacha, I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, I hope the op goes well and she makes for a speedy recovery soon. And congrats to Autie on her graduation at swimming. I remember when we has Charlize is swimming lessons, we would very proud of her when she moved up a class. Oh and the tantrums, Jack is not to bad, he is a very easy go lucky little being but his sister on the other hand, is a handful. We struggle everyday to keep her strong personality in toe, she is very strong willed and doesn't like to not get her own way. But we keep telling ourselves just perserver (sp?) and she will finally accept who is boss. I'm slowly just now starting to see improvement (well some days). But I guess it's a good sign, they will grow up to be strong women.
Lis, great to hear from you. It's been very quiet in here lately, so you shouldn't have to do much reading. Olivia sounds like a great sleeper. What time is she going down at night? Jack is normally up by 7am, but he is down by 6:36 normally, and this suits our routine. But some days I would die for a 8:30 sleep in. Good luck with selling your house. Have you already found a new one? Exciting times.
Us, well we have a very busy few weeks coming up. Have DH family coming this weekend. I have a hens night the following weekend, a cruise the weekend after that, and then a wedding the weekend after that. But it gives me something to look forward to. Oh and I only have 1 more kg to loose until I'm at my goal weight. That's neally 5kg in 4 weeks. I'm so stoked. My babies are sick atm, but I'm hopeful it's going to pass over quickly this time. PLEASE!!!!!!! Other than that not much happening.
Sacha - really sorry to hear about your mum, hope that her surgery & radiation go well. Woohoo for Autie going up a class for swimming
Lis - goodluck with the house selling. Have you already bought a new house or are you waiting until your place is sold? Lucky lucky you to have a good sleeper, what we would give...
Mel - oh no, sick babies again! You have a busy few weeks coming up from the sound of things.
Jas - wow - 12 weeks already, that's fantastic. Have you had any scans yet? How's the m/s?
Well, we're another family that's busy, but not really up to much that's super exciting. The walking is going really well, but not much in the way of words. Loads of babble, but that's about it. Lousy lousy sleeping. Wakes & screams nearly every night, it's doing our heads in, as we just don't know what to do to fix it. And still only 6 teeth. My parents got back from 14 weeks o/s last Friday, so spent a couple of days with them. And quite quickly got very cranky with my mother, but that's another whole story that's just not worth going into. And the big news is that my old work has asked me to come back part time, 2 days in the office, 1 at home, so just waiting for them to tell me how much they'll pay me to go back. I have L booked into day care starting next week, pending the right money. But can't think about it too much, as it just makes me bawl, so not looking forward to leaving him, although I think he'll be fine. Oh, and tried on my first wedding dresses yesterday - freeeeeaaaakky.
Mel - Olivia gets really tired around 7pm so I put her to bed just after that. If we are out or have people over she lasts a bit longer. I think she is sleeping a bit more cause she is teething, she would always sleep longer when teething! I woker her this morning at 8:30, she was still fast asleep.
Today she took 1 step - to get to her food hehehe, she doesn't seem to have good balance but hope that will get better.
Nah havent bought a new place yet, no way can I do a bridging loan! Have to sell first and hopefully with yesterdays news there will be more people willing to buy now!
Mel - hope your bubs get better soon, bring on summer so now more colds I say!
sacha - sorry to read about your Mum. My mum went through breast cancer a few years ago, anytype is just awful - all the best for you and your family.
We are busy busy also! This week quiet, just getting the house spick and and span, then over the next 6 weeks got a 30th, 2 baby showers, races then many many dinners for christmas and birthday! I think we nearly have most weekend book until mid dec! arrgghhh Next Saturday we are having our first night without Olivia!! I have never been without her overnight yet. DH has as he is away a lot but not me!
Sacha - So sorry to hear about your mum. I am glad you are being positive, it must have been a shock! Congrats to Autie on her swimming! We had our first lesson yesterday and as much as Lucas loved it i think the teacher was a bit useless and unhelpful!
Lis - We went through the house selling earlier this year! Always fun! Good luck!
Well for some reason daylight savings has worked the other way for us with Lucas' sleeping! He was sleeping from 7-7.30 till 8.30-9am which is pretty amazing but every morning this week he is getting up earlier and earlier! The earliest has been 7.30am which i know isnt bad but i am just wondering what has brought on the change, anyway i cant complain. Quick update - we are living with my parents while our house is being built, Lucas is a walking/talking/tantrum/climbing machine! He really is quite hilarious at times but also quite demanding! DH is constantly busy working and building our house and i am busy trying to find a dress for my brothers wedding in about 4 weeks!!
Em- i forgot to say i have been watching that ABC series too! I loved the first one but last weeks was a bit average so we'll see what happens tonight!!
Hello girls I cant believe i missed the new thread...... JUst popping in to say hello and hope everyone has a fantastic weekend...
Sasha- Sorry to hear the news on your mum.. hugs to you all.....
Lis- Good luck with selling your house, Hope it sells fast...
Us- i have been flat out pulling dead trees out of my gardens.. and now im soooooo sore.. but its worth it once i have finished it...
Bayleigh is going well He is sleeping in a big boys bed and has bee ofr 3 weeks now he loves it he hasnt fallen out (touch wood) Yet.... he knows how to get into bed and get out.. the other morning we woke ad we had a lil boy laying at our feet under the blanket asleep LOL it was very cute
He loves getting up in the morning and getsout of bed and opens his curtains and watched the rabiits hop around the block behind us and watch the birds in the trees....den comes in and gets in bed with us for a cuddle den goes and plays...
What is everyone feeding their bubbies now???? Bayleigh just eats wat we eat.. He LOVES pasta and rice... If i make Spag bol he will eat 3 bowls full... and same if i do stirfrys or a chicken tonight simmer sauce with rice....
Loves his fruit and loves to FEED himself.. and he has learnt how to drik out of a straw but hasnt got it that you dont tip the cup or bottle up to drink thro the straw LOL
Well im off to bed.. we are having about 25 people over on sunday for a BBQ and to watch Bathurst so i have to get the last of the boxes unpacked and rearrang my house to fit everyone...
Hi girls! I haven't been around much lately - my computer died and had to go off and get fixed. $250 later , and I am back! I am going to be a bit snobby and not do personals, because I have a HUGE headache. I took Tom to the cricket today to watch DH play (*sob* that's right cricket has started again. I am a cricket widow once more). Not sure if the headache is from the sun or sheer boredom of watching cricket. Tom had fun though and one of the guys gave him a red snake - grr - which he loved. He has never had a lolly before..
I just jumped on to see if anyone else is having problems with the following - biting and also kicking on the change table? I think the biting may be his version of a rather passionate kiss because he only bites me and his favourite Aunty Deb, but I don't really know how to stop it. The only advice I have been given is from my ever-unhelpful MIL who suggested I "just bite him back" or "smack him". Hmmm.. yes I find the best way to stop a child from doing something hurtful is to hurt them. Makes perfect sense...
Well girls, this is only short but there is 2 Panadol and a bowl of chocolate icecream with my name on them. Hope everyone is well and smiling.
By the way, Sarah - I can't believe Bayleigh is in a BIG BED!! I have no idea when we will put Tom in one. I can't imagine he would even stay in one! Well done Bayleigh . We are also giving Tom pretty much the same as what we have each night too. Sooooo much easier.
** Feel guilty now - should do some personals **
Sacha - I am so sorry to hear about your mum. I hope everything goes well and we will all be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts. Well done to Autie for swimming class. Future Stephanie Rice prehaps??
Megan - also sending you positive thoughts regarding living with your parents again! Not sure I could do it - although there would be no room for us, she is getting her 4th foster baby tomorrow (6months old). At least your DH is not home much for a good reason - you just need to keep thinking that!
Jan - wedding dress details please?? Good luck with job/Liam possibly starting daycare. I am sure he will love it if he does go. All those kids and new toys to play with. My sister looks after T once a week on her day off (she works in childcare) and she had to quickly go into work the other day to drop some stuff off,and had to take some stuff outside to the bins so she quickly put him into the babies room. Well, when she went back to get him, he chucked a huge fit because he didn't want to leave and had already made friends with a little boy named Hamish, so I am reassured that he will love it when the day finally comes that he has to go.
I really, really should go. Head killing me. Sorry to anyone I have missed xx

OK...would love to know what time toddlers are getting up and then having sleeps????????? We are all over the place since daylight savings change. Lucas was in such a good routine having one sleep a day around lunch but now he is getting up earlier everything has changed and i cant get it right! His day sleeps have been pathetic!!!!!!!!!
Megan, we don't have DLS here, but Jack is normally up anywhere from 6-7am and will go down around 12noon. But that's if we are home, if we are out and about he will normally have a nap in the car in the morning and still have a sleep when we get home. HTH
Guess what, I just bought Jack his big boys bed. Can't wait for it to be delivered. I got him a novelty bed so it's the same shape as Charlize's. But his is a F1 Red Racing car. It's awesome, has 3D wheels and all, he will love it, he loves cars.
I have stopped the TF now, I lost 5kgs, and DH family was here on the weekend, so we ate normal food. (well pizza, burgers, chinese isn't healthy normal ) SO might have put a little back on after all that, but I still feel good. And I know with my motivation now it will loose it again in no time. I just haven't been able to do any exercise for 2 weeks now, since being knocked by a ute, my knee is still no good. I hope it gets better, before I loose my will to keep fit.
Sorry for lack of personals, just thought I duck on here quickly while kids are eating.
BLB to do posts, but just wanted to ask a few questions:
1. Pill - I am over the pill, we aren't going to try until next year but I missed 1 pill and today I have spotting WHAT THE? I am mid cycle too. I can't remember ever have spotting when I had missed a pill before having Olivia ??
2. Do your bubbas feed themselves? Olivia will by fingers, she wants to eat everything by fingers. If I put her dinner on the fork, she will pick it up and eat it, but then she will dive in with her fingers. I try and offer her the spoon when having yoghurt and she just cracks it and wants me to do it all the time!!!
Hi girls,
I am back. PHEW
What a whirlwind the last 3 weeks have been.
So now I am a very happily married mum to one and one on the way.
I have had a few issues with bleeding and thinking this pregnancy was all over until confirmation yesterday that I have another little cheeky one in my belly who just wants to stress mummy out.
So Honeymoon was fantastic, apart from the 8 hours spent in emergency ( due to bleeding). LOL. How many honeymooners can say they spent one day in hospital?
We spent our honeymoon in Tassie, and I absolutly LOVED it. It was fantastic and just so gorgeous! Got some fantastic pics on facebook too if anyone is interested ( just don't mind my boof head).
The wedding was spectacular! Couldn't have wished for a better day!
Everyone kept saying how fantastic it was and how much of a surprise it was. I am so glad we went down the path we did. It was very 'us'.
Anyway, Lachie is the same boy. He runs now, which is scary. He's very hands on, wants to feed himself, dress himself, undress himself. LOL He is very fussy when it comes to food, which is driving me a bit batty, but he should get over it soon.
He's sleeping quite well (finally) and just such a happy little man. Has a million and one teeth and might have hit the 10kg mark finally. haha. Poor little guy.
Anyway, seems like it's been very quiet in here of late. These toddlers seem to run us all off our feet.
Hope everyone is going really well.
Welcome Back MRS NICKY! So glad you had a great day. & glad to hear that everything is okay with bub#2. Those first 12 weeks are so nerve wracking to get through.
Megan - I hate Daylight savings. I'm still struggling to get Liam into bed before 8.30, which is just waaay too late. Mind you, our sleeps are all still pretty diabolical, we're having regular screaming matches in the middle of the night, for who knows what reason. Heaven help us when he starts to get some more teeth.
Lis - Liam's still pretty happy to have me feed him, although we have started a game where he wants to play with the bowl & spoon when he's had enough to eat. Which is great if he's finished everything, but awfully messy otherwise.
Mel - woo hoo for the weight loss, that's great that you've reached your goal. But OMG, what's with being hit by a ute? Did I miss this detail?
Em - hope you're over your headache. I don't have biting or kicking issues on the change table, just wriggling issues. So I just put on my stern, no nonsense voice & get on with the job, & ignore the screaming, and this seems to have calmed him down a little, as I seem to be getting fewer perfomances. Except when he's tired, or super interested in something else. I guess my approach to all of these more trying experiences is that sometimes things/jobs just have to happen, and if we get on with them without negotiation then they get done quickly & we get back to the fun stuff faster. I still try to be nice & happy, but if he's really pushing buttons then I turn "efficient mum" on, IYKWIM.
Well, today was orientation day at day care, in preparation for our first day on Friday. And I'm totally pathetic, I hadn't even left him & I was bawling. So not looking forward to Friday, although he'll be fine. But he looked very cute in his new shoes which we have bought especially for the occasion, and he's so proud of himself when he wears them. Cracks me up really.
ANyway, better get off here, have mother's group at my place tomorrow and have a house to clean, toys to organise & some biscuits to cook.
Is Olivia the only one not walking in this group? She is 15 months and is the only one still crawling in Mums group and Swim Group.
Everyone keeps saying "don't wish it to hurry up" and I wish they would shut up cause I want her to walk!!! I don't like her being the only one her age not walking!!! When I try and hold 1 hand she cracks it and cries instantly!!!
Mel - that is great on the weight loss, you look fab!
That is so cute that Liam does that, unfortunately Olivia is usually crying as she has eaten all the food and there is none left - so I don't think I will get to play that game
Our house is offically on the market, first open on Saturday!!! So I must be off as I FINALLY have DH in from the garage to talk with him about stuff.
Maybe I can get some personals in before the first night wake-up But more about that later...
Nicky - Congratulations and it sounds like you had a great honeymoon. We have been wanting to go to Tassie for ages - which part did you go to? Lachie sounds like he is an active, independent little man - could be good when you have a little one to look after too if he can get himself dressed etc. LOL
Lis - How's the hitting situation going? Is it you she hits? Have you tried just walking away from her abruptly when she does that and no more attention? It's hard at this age as they can be so frustrated with not being able to communicate properly. Autie isn't hitting but she has started crying tantrums when I don't know what she wants. How fantastic that you have a great little sleeper though! Very jealous! Does Olivia have a walker or something she can push around to encourage walking? If you can hang something at head height that she has to stand to reach it can help - maybe a balloon off a ceiling fan or something? I have a thing against the pill and mucking about with hormones so I'm not much help with that question sorry. As for feeding, Autie loves to try with a spoon and fork while I do my thing with another one to actually get stuff in LOL She is improving somewhat but nowhere near proficient.
Mel - whoohoo on your weight loss! Wish I could get motivated. Just need to be more active but you gotta have energy for that! LOL Sorry to hear you have sick bubbas - hope they are feeling better by now. How exciting to get a big bed! Will he stay in it do you think?
Jan - How much fun is trying on wedding dresses? I heard recently that some shops are charging a $500 fee just to try! Unbelievable! Surely they must be losing business. I really hope things go well for you and Liam on Friday - I would cry too. Is he good with strangers? Do you have the option to make it a short day for him (and you!)?
Em - Oh the passion of the toddler! You must grit your teeth in anticipation of each loving kiss! LOL Seriously, have you tried an over-the-top 'ouch' reaction with frowning face and saying something like 'that hurts. I don't like it' and putting him away from you and walking away? Then lots of praise for gentle kisses - 'oh, that's soooo lovely. I love that gentle kiss. Can I have another?' Yada yada yada. You get the drift. I'm probably stating the obvious, but do you have lots of distraction items handy at change time? Thing hanging above (or photos), toys, books, things he can't have at any other time like breakables or kitchen gadgets/dad's tools, a small container with something inside and a not-so-easy lid to keep hands busy. Hope you're feeling better. And I not only lose my husband to cricket, but also the backyard reno dreaming with a tape measure. Sometimes I see him at dinner time...
Sarah - that's so clever of Bayleigh to be in a big bed! How are things going with Chloe?
Megan - what are you up to with your house? Are you seeing progress that makes you excited? We don't have DLS but Autie's sleep is weird atm too. She is transitioning between one and two sleeps depending what time she gets up. If she is up before 6, she will have two naps (9ish and 2ish), otherwise just the one at about 11 then in bed around 6.30.
We have been having nightmare sleeps recently. I had her putting herself happily to sleep every nap/bedtime and sleeping 'til 4 or 5 before coming in for cuddles and more sleep until roughly 6.30. Hallelujah. Then she got sick and now it's all 'i must be rocked to sleep' (which I never did before anyway so where that came from is a mystery) and a million wake-ups a night all complete with screaming and wanting to be in our bed ALL the time. I really hope it passes soon. On the positive side, she is fascinated with 'st' words so we have 'star', 'stuck', 'stick', 'stop' all fairly recognisable while all her previous 'b' words (bot, bed, ball, bikkie) have now become just 'bee'. It's so frustrating when she seems to go backwards in her talking! Mind you, she does say 'pee' for please which is very cute. I'm rabbiting on and really quite tired so that's it for me.
