Vic - Bailey sleeps everywhere - which I am really happy about - I am the one that has sleep issues with him being away in his cot at night LOL, but I regularly put him in his cot during the day so I can get stuff done. He sleeps in our bed, in his cradle, on his playmat, in his pram etc which is very handy as if we are out it doesn't affect his sleep. I also ensure there is always noise (except at night) so he doesn't freak out and wake up if he hears a loud noise and this works well, I have vacummed right under his cradle and not woken him hehehehe. I tried to join a mothers group but our local one which is tomorrow is mostly 2nd time Mums, I want to join a group where all the Mums are first time Mums like me and they are all similar ages - its a shame we dont all live close by - DOH. However CYH (same as MCHN in Adelaide) rang me today as I had registered my interest in the 'Getting to know your Baby' classes that run over a month, there is some starting in July so I am going to attend as hoping to hook up to some new Mums that way. They teach things like Baby Massage etc - I would have preferred if they were sooner, but thems the breaks!!

BG - thats is LOVELY re your Mummy gift, what a legend your DH is - enjoy your beautiful necklace

Catherine, I am hoping that after this box of NB the INFANT will fit as have a huge stash ready to go

Jacinta - yeah we definately have the same mobile. Ours works fine but it absolutely eats batteries, we have already changed the batteries in the main bit once, the little remote that comes with it is handy. Your's should last longer that this - I would take it back to exchange, thats crappy!!

How funny is this - we have this little brown teddy bear we bought from IKEA which sits on the side of the change table and Bailey always looks for it and smiles at "Change Bum Ted" during a change, today he did a 'fountain' wee and poor Change Bum Ted got a shower so I had to put him in the washing machine and during the next change Bailey was looking for him LOL He smiles more at the teddy than at Mum and Dad

Off to cook tea

naomi... i remember feeling like that with Q . i used to get anxious when DH would take him to the shops without me. i nearly had anxiety attacks when i had to go back to work. i missed him terribly when i was in hospital. its life now with kiddies. everything changes!

vic... we still co-sleep. and if xavier (6) had his way, he would be in bed with us too!!! LOL. don't worry about what everyone says. there are lots of arguments for and against. sometimes you have no choice. Q would NOT sleep anywhere, and has just started to go in his cot and sleep longer hours. but ralie will sleep in her cot and not fuss. as for co-sleeping, the movement of you in the bed and the sound of your breathing is a SIDS preventative (provided your not drunk and drugged up). and white western culture is one of the ONLY cultures who likes to wrap up babies and put them alone in a room. co-sleep for as long as you can cause they will be asking for money and the keys to the car in no time!!! LOL

the pain is subsiding.... my scar is red and itchy now though, just for about 4 cm. mum said it can be superficial infection from the stitches being absorbed inside. but have to watch it so it doesn't get worse and burst open. nice huh!! not having a good run this time round.... but could be ALOT worse. how come we can't drive? i drove today. went to supermarket by myself, well, with Q, but not ralie. but am absolutely knackered now.

catherine L... no, not cool when it happens in public. thank god that hasn't happened to me yet. Q has just started to be very good in public actually, still tries to reach out for the glass jars in the supermarket though, cheeky rat.

Jacinta... thanks. i am biased though. I love my little darlings.

Krysite... thats hilarious!! i used to head for changing rooms regularly, they don't have many mother rooms in the uk. i found it so hard to go out with Q, he would want to feed every half hour!! gees!

BG... that is so sweet. dad's love thier girls. DH was so proud to have a little girl and bought balloons and everything. they are sweet.

going now... see you all tomorrow

Janelle - the six weeks no driving thing is something loads of people have told me so I just accepted it, but actually am not sure if is stipulated anywhere or affects insurance - is meant to be something to do with ability to do emergency stop or something.

Any one else know of info on it? I found some info on here but that was uk info.

Hi everyone!!! How are we going?

All going well here! DS did his first ever whizz on the potty yesterday which was exciting! hehe
Allira is same old really... feeding and sleeping like a champ. I'm another who lets the kids sleep wherever they are comfy. We are also co sleeping at night and getting huge stretches ( PB is 7.5 hours). Allira will sleep in her bouncer for 3 hours at a time during the day... well... when her brother is not jumping on her smothering her with his brotherly love.

Ahh I was going to do persies... but I'm about to pass out. Just finished feeding Allira and have to be up early to take the kiddies into town.... It's jabby jabby jab day for DS (I'm a little late with his 18 mth vax... naughty mum!)

Take care all and I will be back to do persies Thursday probably.

Thanks for all the advice girls - I am feeling so much better about everything today. DH is on late shifts this week and when got home around midnight he was so understanding and actually said that although he nodded in agreement with all the MCHN said, he is happy enough with what we are doing at the moment and talked alot of sense about the whole thing. Is like lots of things e.g. say buying a car, you can do a load of research but there will be differing opinions and you just have to decide which ones you believe in most and are most applicable to you. I always do a lot of research on things and normally make my mind up quite easily based on it, but when it is affecting such a gorgeous little person seems more difficult!

Had a good night last night anyway - just a feed around midnight and at 5:30 - no idea why CJ will sleep in her cot at night and not in the day but hey it doesn't matter, and a friend said you can always just lie to the MCHN!

Downloaded some ocean waves sounds, and mountain rain etc and played them on IPOD speakers for CJ while feeding last night - not sure if she liked or not but had a calming effect on me. Although we had hailstones last night in Melbourne so also had the sound from outside!

Niadla - hope the injections go ok for DS

Krystie - thanks for all the links - there is a lot of sense in them. I sort of wish we could cosleep at night as well as in the day but there just seems to be no room in the bed, with me and DH in it, and we only have a small flat so no room to try a bigger bed.

Janelle - Can you see your scar? I can't see mine because my belly overhangs it so even in the mirror is right in the crease, so I have to get DH to inspect it - all seems to good with it he says. Do you have any dressing on it? I don't haven't since last Thursday - the MCHN seemed to think that was odd (when they took the first dressing off, I said unless really needed would prefer not to have another one as taking that off hurt more than having the staples removed! (wow they look just like stationary stapes too - I have kept one as a souvenir)

Naomi - From what I understand in VIC the mothers groups are all first time mums - so hopefully that will be good, shame your local one is mostly second timers. I borrowed a baby massage DVD from ABA group, attempted to follow it last night but need to work out a way of being able to watch the DVD in a warm enough place - is freezing here in Melbourne at the moment (suspect is similar in Adelaide?). Did I see from facebook you work for Optus? DH's new job is with Optus and although only been there 8 weeks or so, he got a lovely baby box from his new colleagues yesterday.

Well better go - hugabub didn't get a run out yesterday because of weather but going to attempt again today - need to watch DVD to put it on still though!!!

Here here! Great interpretation! Seriously you just have to do what your happy within yourself with and what works for you guys. It can be hard sometimes to make those decisions also when your a little sleep deprived and it's a little harder to make sense of things. Anyway, In most of the books I have read - it's not terribly important to be fastidious on creating habits like self settling and cot sleeping until the third month apparently. My practices are purely our personal choice only. I personally don't see anything wrong with attachement parenting, it's just not for me and I couldn't do it. I have a gf who is fantastic with attachement parenting. She and her husband co sleep with their three year old and their 3 month old! She's happy to do that and I think that is a sweet little situtation - I'm just not prepared to do that and that may be seen as selfish on my part, but for us, the way we see it is we were a couple before we became a family and we need just Danny and Catherine time and space. Every room in our house is full of children toys and stuff, except our bedroom which is our little haven where Danny and I have our own space without kiddie stuff and just eachother. It's really important for us to not forget about 'us' as a couple because it's so easy to get caught up with the children, work and general busy everyday life and forget about one 'us'. But then again, Brooklyn isn't our first child either - so we are perhaps a little more calculated this time. But one thing I think people think when they hear routine is that I must leave my child to cry and scream - I NEVER did that with Rochelle and definately don't plan to this time either. With Rochelle and Brooklyn so far, I have found in the first three months they don't really cry without a reason (I read that, and it's been true for my kids so far *touch wood*) If I put them down in their cot and they cried - it would be for a reason... Even now with Brooky, after a few minutes she'll start to cry in her cot, so I'll pick her up and burp her and she'll go back down and send herself off to sleep without a hassle. I guess I'm confident on what it is that's wrong with her because I already know she's had enough boob and I've met all her other needs in her routine if that makes sense. But if she won't go down in her cot without crying, I definately don't persist it. Sorry... I've dragged on a bit. I think we're all doing wonderful jobs anyway, it's not apparent that anyone's on the verge of breaking down!

I'm on the computer a bit at the moment when the girls are asleep... I'm doing the floor plan for our new house. It's taking some time trying to get room sizes right and everything where we want it! Trying to firgure out how many bedrooms we really need. We plan on another child or two, plus a guest room and office. I guess the girls can share when they both share the same 7pm to 7am sleep. Otherwise we're going to need more than 5 bedrooms!

Hope everyone had a great night sleep and is enjoying their precious ones... I still can't stop staring at Brooklyn when she's on the breast - she's so beautiful! But I still feel the same way with Rochelle - I look at her sometimes and wonder how she turned out so gorgeous! We did such a good job making her. lol. Did anyone get the blues? I still haven't had them but I'm still feeling so high on love that I feel like I'm going to fall hard when I come down.... although I didn't get the blues with Rochelle, so fingers crossed!

Have a great day everyone. X

Vic - yep, I do work for Optus, I'm a team leader in debt collection (financial services), but I am off until March next year. DH also works there (he has worked for them for 9.5 years, me for 8.5), they are a great employer to work for - Your DH should get a Baby Basket from Optus (ours arrived a few weeks ago with all bath products and towels/face washers etc) as they always send gifts when employees have babies. Handy to know too that they pay 8 weeks maternity leave (although he would have missed out this time as have to be there 12 months to be eligible). As DH and I both work there we get 16 weeks paid - when I return to work DH will take his (followed by his long service leave) so will be a SAHD for about 5 months with Bailey. I hope he enjoys its, I certainly do (being there this long certainly shows that). They have such great incentives too, I won a $3000 travel voucher late last year, and there are lots of reward and recognition for staff, IMO they really look after their people. What type of position does he hold in Melb? We may well know some of the same people - hehehehe

Raindrops - although its a long way off (next March) I am already dreading the thought of returning to work. When DH has finished his SAHD stint I am going to look at working 3 days a week so I can maximise my time with Bailey

Niadla - Yaaaah for Lachy whizzing on the loo

Catherine - I do agree with the parents bedroom being a 'sanctary' and I do look forward to reclaiming ours LOL We have a big spa in our ensuite so filled it up last night to have some 'couple' time, it was lovely and relaxing and fortunately Bailey stayed asleep the whole time!

I just booked a 7 day Gold Coast Holiday for Nov (before the dreaded Schoolies week), we are taking our best friends and their son (12 months older than Bailey) so REALLY looking forward to it. Bailey will be 6 months old then - crazy to think that!

Well am off to at least organise some dinner before the little guy stirs, he is currently laying asleep on the floor on his Elmo rug while Dad plays guitar hero

naomi... i hated going back to work. i had no family or anyone i could leave Q with, and I had to go back at 6 months cause we needed the money, but then childcare was so expensive we weren't that much better off anyways! luckily, i had a great childminder who was a friend of a friend, and her children were in my classes at school anyways. she was very supportive. but sometimes i would get all the way down into london and Q would cry and i just couldn't leave him and i would call in sick at the last minute and go home. i was very stressed and bordered on having separation anxiety. but i went back full time under very stressful conditions (step kids, foreign country, no support, *****y workplace etc...). i quit in the end and became a childminder my self so i could stay home. its different for everyone, sounds like you have a good plan in place, and 3 days will definitely be managable!! this time i could do 2-3 days but we have 4 kids now and my DH is very supportive of me staying at home to look after the kids as long as we can (esp seeing as his ex neglected the kids).

catherine L... no blues really, was feeling down for a few days and cried a bit, but i think that was do to the parents stressing us out rather than postnatal stuff. am still so happy not to be PREGNANT!! and almost slept on my belly last night... but still a bit painful. and wore normal clothes today instead of my mens vests!! huragh!!

vic... the driving thing was never mentioned to me in the uk, i was up and driving a week later. just asked my mum and she said it is an old fashioned rule for people who have had major surgery in that area, bowel, bladder, uterus....etc... shouldn't drive incase they have to stop suddenly, but it has to be a really big sudden jerky movement to cause damage. given the crazy aussie drivers, i would be a bit more careful here, and i must admit, i did have to go through a nasty intersection and make a u turn and come back through it and turn left, instead of making a right hand turn across traffic (they are upgrading with traffic lights), i was driving like a grandma... LOL

i can see my scar if i lift up my flabby belly... LOL!! i have a little podgy bit that is very soft from all the stretching. all my belly skin this time round, is very soft and stretched. but i know it will be ok. i actually have two scars. i am at peace with that, i can wear low cut jeans and stuff and they won't be a problem, but after my first c-seciton i was really angry and felt the physical scar represented the trauma. i couldn't look at it for a while. now i see them as two tracks, one for each of my babies, just like a tattoo. but thats also largely to the birth experience. a c-section doesn't have to be traumatic. i had inside stitches this time... i think i would freak out if i had staples.

we had a small flat in london too, a friend of mine gave me a moses basket and i moved a clothes rack to put it near my bed!! LOL but Q refused to go in it, so he slept in our bed. then we moved into a house, and the heating broke in the middle of winter!!! so me and DH and xavier and Q were all in our bed to keep warm!! then we moved into a bigger house, but xavier hated sleeping up stairs and it was cold, so xavier and Q used to sleep in Q's cot!! LOL (with one side off). then Q would come into our bed. we sold Q's cot to move here, and we were all on mattresses on the floor for about 3 months. now we have had to transition xavier into his own bed across the hall, and Q into his cot. but we still all fit in bed, our bed is only a double and we wake up with ralie, Q and me and DH in the morning!! LOL. we run a fine line between coping so we all get some sleep and trying to get the kids in thier own beds.

going now...
Q just comes up to me and says 'move it nelle' so he can get passed. LOL 2 year olds crack me up.

Ok I am back and ready to tackle personals!

Here goes:

Vic : You sound like you are going about everything so well! You are in the right frame of mind with it all .... I like your car anallergy.
Good luck with it all!

Catherine: no blues here. I didn't get much with DS, only a few tears on morning 3. I was waiting for the waterworks this time but nothing. I've been feeling so good ever since giving birth.
Good luck with the house!! It must be a bit stressful and I can't imagine having the kids AND building/designing a new house, but I did just buy a new car ..... hehe.

Naomi : Oh nice a holiday!!! I would love to head away with the family later this year. We are thinking of heading to SA to visit friends. I hope it happens, but I'm not counting on it.

Allira had her 4 week appt yesterday. She's doing really well. Had a weight gain of nearly 600 grams which was good and has grown in length by about 2.5cms. Other than that nothing to really report.

I'm just hanging out to get my car. LOL

Ok so I was on a roll and now I'm stuffed. lol

Hi to raindrops, BM, Amy, BG, JwithJ, Krystie( I'm beginning to think I don't get in enough to actually call people by their real names) and anyone I missed.

Have a fab day!

Andy doesnt sleep in his cot during the day he sleeps in his rocker. MCHN give me the peeves. as for the no driving for 6 weeks i didnt have a car when i had my c/s so i wasnt fussed, but i was told it was due the fact of braking.

Krystie: dont u just love how the so called experts give out their crappy advice?lol. If andy doesnt settle at night he will sleep with us, i dont see the problem he just wants the warmth n cuddles..

BG: awww that was lovely of ur DH, did u cry? i know i woulda

Hi everyone,

Well have decided to crash this thread after all cos I miss you all! You all sound like you are really doing well. No major struggles, just lots of decisions on how to handle situations, which is the gist of parenting I guess. Good on you to all of you though cos from listening in it sounds like you are all being true to yourselves and I think that is really important.

Had ob appointment today. First saw a JHO who really knew nothing at all so when we asked whether we could continue at the birth center at our dates she had no idea and had to go ask the consultant. Who came in and asked us a variety of questions. I am now 40 +12 and so was expecting the whole argument about when to induce us... We were really aiming to get them to leave us alone until 42weeks had elapsed whicvh is Sat. And we really wanted to have assurances that if we were to go into spontaneous labour before being induced that we could be looked after by the birth center MW. The upshot of it all was that the Dr agree that if we had daily CTG's to monitor bubs and ensure good placental function we could go to 42+3 which is tues and have AROM then with the assurance that we could birth at the BC if we went into labour before then. We are really excited about the outcome because the BC is really new it only opened in dec and there is alot of politics surrounding it and not all the dr's are supportive. So I feel relieved in alot of ways. one I know that we will be given every reasonable chance to do this naturally and two that we have a plan for how to handle it if i don't go naturally. So feeling better all around.

Sorry for not doing persies everyone... I keep reading your posts and giggle and comiserate with you all as you go along, I think I am still in a really selfish head space and focusing on getting thru the rest of this pregnancy and keeping this baby safe.

Will be better soon

Thanks for all the support

Bella - Glad you have crashed this thread, and fantastic news following your appointment today - is great they are being supportive of you wanting to go into labour naturally.

BM - I have to say on reflection I agree with you about the MCHN, but on Tuesday it just gave me the baby blues! She apparently is normally the coordinator so doesn't do home visits or appointments - so hopefully I won't have to see her again! and the others will be nicer - I am taking my mum with me to the one on Tuesday anyway!

Naomi - I asked DH what the name of the group he works for are but have now forgotten. It is fault resolution over the telephone for phones and digital TV. Lots of people have said how good they are to work for but is nice to hear it again. Yeah he didn't get any paternity leave but they were good about him taking a little time off as holiday.

AFM - Had second night of manic feeding last night so feel shattered today - going to have another nap in a moment - despite feeling really tired am finding it harder to sleep than normal. Had a walk out with the hugabub today (CJ slept whole time again) which was good and went and had a chai latte and mini mud cake (would like to have a coffee but just in case CJ reacts to the caffeine am not trying it today) and bought sushi to have for tea - have been hanging out for sushi.

Hi all - I am sorry, I'm finding it so hard to get a moment to post in here. I'm reading your posts though - usually in the middle of the night LOL!
BG: Nope, haven't solved the hammock issue. If I put her smack bang in the middle it seems to be best - closest to flat. Sounds like you guys are sleeping ok regardless... Though it's a shame to have bought the hammock and then not use it.
Vic: Glad the feeding and sleeping stuff is sorting itself out for you. (Except for the frequent overnight feeds. That sucks! But it won't last forever. That's what I keep telling myself when I find we're getting up 3 times every night for an hour at a time )
Catherine: I am a firm believer in routines for kids, but in this house we don't tend to get anything organised until the kid is 6 months old, LOL. That's how it panned out with Natty anyway. We'll see if I can be more organised this time round. (I think I'm going to have to - am really struggling with the two kids atm, and DH is home Goodness knows what's going to happen when he goes back to work...)
I have had a little bit of the blues this time round, but nothing like last time. Last time I think I cried on and off for 6 weeks. I also had anxiety issues but so far all seems well this time. I can even sleep with Phoebe in our room, which I couldn't do with Natty. She was in her own room the third night at home because I couldn't sleep at all with her there. Phoebs is a really noisy sleeper so I think she'll move out soon enough. I'm keen to keep her close for a bit though because I'm worried she'll wake Natty in the night if she cries for too long. I'll wait until we're not up so many times overnight. Hopefully that's not far away
Jess: Sorry Andy's been sick. I can't believe you are able to study as well as look after 2 kids... These last couple of weeks I've felt like I haven't had time to scratch my butt.
Niadla: Great weight gain! Go Allira! Congrats on the new car - two new babies, you lucky thing
Naomi: Yay for holidays! Must feel lovely to have that to look forward to.
Janelle: Q sounds like such a little character. Natty comes out with some funny things sometimes. But atm she is very whingey - really struggling with the lack of attention. So I am really having to be consciously understanding of her feelings and not expect too much of her for a while.
Bella: Thanks for dropping in with an update, mate. Great that your care providers are being so supportive. Please don't apologise for "being selfish" - you are being amazingly strong, quite inspirational. You are going to be a birthing goddess when this baby decides to arrive!
Hiya Krystie & Jacinta! Hope all's super with you and your little boys

Phew - I hope I hgaven't left anyone out...
We're hanging in there. I am trying hard to give Natty my time in between feeds. Phoebs is feeding at least every three hours. MCHN came for a home visit yesterday and she has put on 200g in a week, so I'm pleased with how it's going. She gets a bit cross in the late afternoons - I am typing one-handed with her on my boob, LOL!
Am also trying to finish off my birth story. It is getting harder to remember everything
Ok, my time's up! Phoebe might rest in the rocker in a milk daze for just enough time for me to put dinner on. Tlk soon girls! xx

hiya ladies - it sounds like it's all starting to happen in here now!

Bella - i'm glad you crashed in here babe - you'll always be one of our belly buddies - and it's good to hear that you're doing ok. it's damn hard when you're waiting, but it sounds like they're not putting you through political BS at the moment which is fantastic! Tuesday give you an endate - and CTG monitoring - although a PITA, is a minimal inconvenience to give your bubba a choice in deciding it's bday.

BM - good luck on finding a way to clean the carpets! Ashy sounds like he's pushing the limits as far as he can

Amy - we're not too phased about the hammock - we'll try it every few days just to see how she goes but for now, she's sleeping pretty well - we've had to resort to using a dummy for going to sleep though - she is suckling on me for comfort and is making herself sick from having too much milk!

Vic - those manic feeding sessions are killers - we seem to get one full on night, then a night or two of calm. haven't managed two bad nights in a row yet - but i know they're set to happen soon (probably just when DH goes away for work again!)

AFM (well, US really) - Paed appt today - Emerald has put on another 130g in 6 days and he said she's in no way having any weight gain issues so doesn't know why they made such a (stressful) song and dance about it all in hospital. she's such a gem of a kid! love her to bits! MCHN appt tomorrow - so i'm guessing we'll have another weigh in or something.. dunno don't care - she's doing fine!

Thanks all of you but specially snacks.. made me cry when I read your encouragement. trying so hard to be strong and not complain. just so want to give this baby and myself the best chances for having a great birth. Also Naomi you have set me off a couple of times too, with your thoughtful comments. I don't see the point of much self pity, we all deal with the hand we r dealt and I won't mope if this ends up in a ceasar if that is what it takes to get a healthy baby and healthy mummy, but it is really nice to have the support and understanding and encouragement, otherwise it is a very isolating experience. I concur with what someone said the other day. I don't know how women coped before the internet!!!

So to all of you thankyou for listening and encouraging whilst I wait, wouldn't do it without you.
