Amy, I'm also a believer in "better safe than sorry" and also that "knowledge is power". In your situation I'd want to know. Although I'd hate the idea of the blood test too. I guess whether I would have it done straight away would depend on whether there is anything that can be done if something is found? If nothing could be done at this stage, then it would make no difference if you waited to find out. My advice would be to make a dr appointment and discuss it with them. They could probably let you know what sort of odds she has of even having something like this, and that might help you make the decision.

I have a question for the Mummy's with girls. It's about a bit of a controversial topic (on BB anyway). Just wondering if any of the girls have had their ears pierced? I think E has hasn't she? I've been thinking about it for Shayla since I saw one of DH's cousin's baby girl with hers done. I hate the thought of the pain for her, but I also think that she's almost certainly going to want them done one day (I can't even think of one lady I know without pierced ears) so she'll experience the pain one day anyway. And if I have them done now I can pop her straight on the breast afterwards to try to cheer her up. I've been told if you get it done before about 6 months the baby is not able to play with the earrings while they are healing, and it's easier for the parents to keep them clean and healthy while they heal. Another concern is about positioning of the earring though. I've heard that sometimes as the ears grow the earrings can become uneven in the lobe. This happened to my sister and she ended up with one earring in the middle of the lobe, and the other much closer to the outside edge. When she was much older she took the earrings out and let the holes grow over and had them re-pierced. I'm not sure if its actually a common thing to happen, or whether her earrings were just originally not placed correctly. DH is happy to get them done if I want to, but doesn't want to come when she has them done. What are your thoughts?
