Hello hello!! Gosh I just never get on here anymore these days, my time is spent gazing at our gorgeous little creation and getting out of the house alot!
Peanutter- I have just caught up on everything that has gone on for you with Joshuas arrival, you poor lovey I cant believe what you have been through! You definately seem to be coping with it amazingly and so positive about it all, I take my hat off to you as I doubt I would have coped as well in those circumstances! I hope little Josh is doing well & woohoo to DH doing night feeds during world cup! And Happy Birthday, the first of many where a little one takes the spotlight!
MT- Little Zarlen was very behaved at dinner, so much so that we even went out for lunch on Saturday too! Everyone goo'd and gaa'd over him while he slept happily. Sorry to hear you have mastitis, I hope the antibiotics are doing their job and you are on the mend! I cant imagine how painful it must be!
Sunshine- You sound like you are having a really rough time hun, hopefully when your mum gets there you will get some much needed rest! I know what you mean about not sleeping as well when bubs is curled up in your arms... we have one of those cot insert mattresses which has slightly raised sides (its one of those ones to put in a cot when they are too small still) but we use it for Zarlen to sleep in our bed, he is right next to me but on his own mattress with his own blankets and this way he is so close but I sleep better as he is not in my arms.
Sharon- Isn't it lovely to find those few moments of 'alone' time! Awesome to hear Logan is letting you get good sleep.. sounds like the chiro works well for him too Hope the birthday parties go well!
MM- Gee you sound like you need some rest too lovey! It's crusty as when you want to go to bed but bub has other ideas... especially when they spend that time just crying! Zarlen does the same thing sometimes where he souks if Im not feeding him, but then I put him on and he drinks for a few min then grizzles about being on there! Its only in the evenings and Im assuming it's that whole 'cluster feeding' thing cos he is always hungry at that time of day. Good to see Max finally came around to Darcie! Such a cute pic of the two of them on fb
Hi to everyone else, hope you are all going well with the new babies!
AFM- This is my first proper post since I had Zarlen, how slack am I... He has settled in really well. Nights are great he usually sleeps 5-6hrs when we first put him to bed then another 3-4hrs before we wake up so it's usually only 1 feed a night which I am loving. Days are different however he will usually only sleep for 2hrs at a time or less. Evenings are driving me nuts at the moment, from about 5pm he souks alot and feeds every 30mins or so for a few hrs. He looooves to have baths & showers with us so thats fun. We are keeping busy and going out visiting and shopping a fair bit so not many days just bumming around at home. I do like the odd day where we sit by the fire and watch dvds all day tho heheh.
Jeremy has taken to him amazingly and is so in love with him & loves to help with what he can.
Since we had Zarlen we have had huge issues with my mother... starting the night I gave birth. She was having a VERY hard time accepting that she was not allowed in the birthing room but had to wait outside with Jeremy. She further got her nose out of joint that we invited Tasmans mum to wait in the waiting room also as she was so over the moon and excited about his coming arrival. Well the week I was due our new car was in getting fixed (long story there) so our only car was the manual which Tas cant drive... Mum had said if I go into labour to call her and she will pick us up and take us to hosp.. So Tue 18th May, 11pm we call mum as hosp told me to come in as I was getting some pain 3-5min apart... Mum is completely DRUNK!! So, I drive us to hosp stopping for contractions 6 times along the way. Mum is crying on the phone all emotional as Im finally having this baby & claims she is catching a taxi to hosp. We ring Tasmans mum & dad who live 5min from our hosp to meet us there as we have Jeremy who needs supervising. I get examined, 4cm dialated woohoo so it's all on now. Tasmans mum is in with me got me a gym ball and matt for the floor and is rubbing my back while Tas massaged my hands and Jeremy is pottering around. Mum arrives an hour later walks in and completely cracks it to see Tasmans mum in the room, while Im in the middle of a contraction, and announces she is leaving. Tas, her mum & Jeremy all went out seperately and tried to talk her down and get her to come in but she was furious. I wasnt having Tasmans mum or anyone else there for the birth itself, but was happy for them to be in until I felt I wanted them to leave. Mum wouldnt have a bar of it and got in a taxi and went home. She then ignored the call 3hrs later from Jeremy to say that Zarlen had arrived. We didnt hear from her til we got a text 24hrs later, and then she didnt even come to meet Zarlen for 3 days!!!
Ever since then she had blamed me for all that happened and says she cant 'bond' with Zarlen cos she wasnt there at the birth, yeah whatever, like she needs to see him come out to bond with him, whatever! She now hates Tasmans mum for being at the hosp and for being apart of Zarlens life in those first few days... Tasmans mum is an angel and I dont know what we would have done without her, she had Jeremy for 2 days for us from when I went into labour til we got out of hosp as my mother bailed on him too. Now I just dont know what to do with her, it's all her own fault that she missed out on Zarlens first few days but she will never accept that.
Geeez what a rant Iv had hey, congrats if you got through it all heheh.
Iv been writing this post for about 2hrs but keep having to run off and feed or settle Bubba Z hahah... finally done, and whats the bet it takes me another 2weeks to post again!! Blah!
Peanutter- Zarlen does this too! Usually in the evenings, it's like he doesnt know what he wants or something! He feeds for a few mins then starts grizzling and pulls off, then wants to get back on and repeats it! If he does it a few times I just take him off & stand up and walk around patting his bum and this usually settles him. I dunno why it happens in the first place though!!
I haven't had it happen with Emme, but I did with Jett - around the 4 week mark. It turns out he was overfeeding. I had an oversupply and a fast let down and Jett would feed both sides fully. If I expressed it was about 240 mls - which is huge for a nb tummy. So the result was two things that caused him discomfort - one was silent reflux - telltale sign was stinky acid breath like he'd just chucked. The other thing which was explained to me was that the sphincter that holds the food in the tummy for processing and digesting before releasing it in to the gut, would open up with the pressure of the full tummy. So this meant that undigested food would be going in to the gut and then fermenting causing wind pain. The foremilk in breastmilk is particularly responsible for this as it is basically sugar water.
So what we did to ease it was I would feed from one side only, but more often. I would also express off a little of my milk so that I wouldn't be so full so the letdown wouldn't be so strong and some of the foremilk would be removed. Problems from this were my supply was eventually compromised, so I had a bit of a rollercoaster ride with how much milk I had for about 6 months. We also offered Mylanta. We only needed to do that for a few weeks until it all settled down.
But of course this is only my experience, and it may not be related for you guys. It may be the above, it may be just silent reflux, it may even be something in your diet (eg. broccoli) that may be causing gut wind pain. But I thought I might offer my experience in case it does resonate with you. If it does please go and see a doctor, a paed, a LC for some proper advice. They may have changed treatments or have other suggestions for you. I remember it well, and I remember how bad it got. I was in tears on a number of occasions because he wouldn't stop screaming and I had no idea what was going on.
This time, being aware of what happened last time, and also knowing how strong a feeder Emme is, I stuck to one side only initially, and made sure she was comfortable when I put her back down to sleep (i.e. no wind). The times when I did feed her two sides I would watch for any overflow chucks as a sign of 'too much' so wouldn't offer the second side again for another couple of days. She now has a little bit from the second side, my supply seems to be stable and not too much. We also give her a dummy so that she isn't comfort sucking or snacking.
just saw this pop up in the new posts and thought id stick my head in and say a big to you all!!!!

sunshine – so glad your new home is now on the horizon! When is the big move? I saw you said that you’d done a big post in the baby section, but I couldn’t find it ... I’m still a bit of a nufty when it comes to these bulletin boards etc... I hope you’re ok though, and that you have plenty of support ... if you put a link or something I can search for, I’d like to read it, so I can know how to support you better xo and re having bubs in bed, I just can’t do that – I had him in with me once (I had *just* lay down for a nap, and he started to cry! So I went and got him, and went straight back to bed with him...) but I kept on waking up, wondering if he was ok, too hot, too cold, under the doona, under me, my arm fell asleep and in my haze I wasn’t sure where it was, etc etc etc ... so no more co-sleeping for me! I’m sorry to read in your earlier posts about sheridan’s demanding schedule of feeds and cuddles and everything – I have no idea how you’re managing to cope, and stay even marginally sane. Major hats off to you, girlfriend. I hope that she settles down into a decent routine quick smart, and you’re able to get some quality rest – even if it’s a few hours here and a few hours there. Everything just seems so much more manageable, when you’ve got at least 5 or 6 hours’ sleep under your belt ... Prayers that you get at least that really soon xo
miskilla – what a parental meltdown nightmare!! I’m glad you’re not blaming yourself for this – I hope you feel completely secure and validated in your thinking that this is on your mother. I hope she comes around and (even if she doesn’t blame herself) stops trying to blame others, and just enjoys time available with bubs now! And re being aggro at Tasman’s mum etc – I hope she just gets over it. She’s only hurting herself by continuing this behaviour and maintaining this attitude. How upsetting – I hope you and your DP are ok... And a huge WOW for you driving yourself to the hospital! You’re amazing!
mummytummy – so sorry to hear about the mastitis! One of my boobies is sore, and I’m wondering if I’ve got a very tiny bit of it, but there’s no redness, no fever, no obvious lump, no “flu like symptoms” so I guess I just bumped it or something. Will just keep up the feeding and expressing, and hope that it goes away... and I pray that your antibiotics have well and truly kicked in by now, and that your mastitis has thoroughly racked off, and you’re back in baby bliss
sharon – i know what you mean re alone time ... while Josh sleeps a lot, there just never seems to be enough time between feeds to do everything else i need to do! Salt baths, laundry, cooking, dishes, reading, etc ... and my DH is also so totally into the world cup ... he’s a kiwi who lived in England for many years, and now in oz – so he loves his rugby, soccer (sorry, “football”!) and cricket!! I hope the parties went ok, and that you got some telly time, and some time with DH in the end, too
minimax – so sorry to hear that you’ve been having a tough time. I hope Darcie has settled right back down, and that it’s all a lot calmer, and you’re able to enjoy your time in Perth! And I hope that Max adjusts quickly and painlessly to his new routine – and his new family situation! But I have no advice to offer in that regard, I’m afraid...
ellie – hoping that you’re still doing ok, and that your boobies haven’t fallen off, despite any potential growth spurts! Man, they grow quickly ... I’m sure your DD1 coped ok with the long-term nappy – and if that’s the worst thing that’s happened to her this week, then it sounds like she’s a very loved and well taken care of little girl Re bubs feeding lots – Josh doesn’t feed to often, but sometimes when he latches on, he sucks so hard that I think my nipple is going to rip right off into his little hungry mouth! Not much fun for mum...
peta – glad that you’ve got a feeding solution sorted, which is working for you and for aly! I hope that other things are happily uneventful for you at the moment
nappies - we’ve just don’t the transition from disposables to cloth ... Joshua has been fine with it so far, but it looks sooo funny, to see his tiny little body with this ENORMOUS butt, now! We’re hoping it doesn’t mean shorter sleeps at night ... will have to wait and see, though... and we might end up using disposables at night, if this is a problem. I value my sleep too much to have it interrupted when I can do something to avoid it!!
feeding – Josh is generally feeding at 4 hour intervals, with occasional (small) top ups of expressed breast milk, but isn’t putting on quite as much weight as we’d like, so the MHCN said for us to so 50ml top ups twice daily. So we’ll do that. We’re also considering doing 3 hourly feeds for the last two feeds before he goes down, to see if he sleeps longer – but we’ll make a decision once we’ve found out what happens with the cloth nappies overnight. One major change at a time!!
pets – our cat (10yrs) has been treating Joshua like she treated our dogs when they were puppies – with mild interest, major disdain, and leaving the room when they become too noisy! This suits us fine. As the dogs, they are outside puppies, and are much too curious to let anywhere near Josh! We also have never succeeded in training them not to jump up on people or lick people, so for these reasons also, they aren’t allowed near Joshua yet ... we let them see us when we’re taking Joshua to and from the car, and they can smell his clothes etc, but we’ll have to wait until he’s a lot older before there’s any real interaction. They don’t seem to be too put out however, and we’ll be sure to give them just as much attention, walks, etc, so they know they’re just as loved as ever
afm – well, I well and truly have cabin fever, and need to think of more things which I can do between feeds, salt baths etc which aren’t physically demanding, but which occupy my brain. All ideas welcome! I’ve almost run out of Sudoku books and jigsaw puzzles ... I’m still praying that my insides all heal up – it’s all still pretty gross down under, but it’s early days yet ... and although DH has been back at work for a week, I haven’t gone out of my mind with boredom. Getting, there, but hopefully will think of more things I can do, which will stave off the boredom. But Josh is behaving and feeding (hasn’t put on as much weight as we’d like, but is back over his birth weight and doing well in general) and is a very happy little camper most of the time.
geez Miskilla - what a horrendous story! Like Peanutter said, I'm glad you can just let it be on your Mum and not take any of the blame she's laying on you. Sounds like she's being a toddler with her nose out of joint! They're hard to deal with!!!
Crumpet I'd been thinking of you too and was going to go stalking! But time isn't on my side as much at the moment! Glad you're going well and you've hit 10 weeks with no drama. Make sure you come back and tell us how you are often.
Sunshine I'm with Sharon and what she said about the foremilk and hind milk and the tummy upsets. Darcie had a tummy ache the other night and I think it was coz she was feeding too often. Maybe try and stretch out the feeds as long as you can (I know it's hard) and find a rhythm. I remember with Max I would write down when he fed at the beginning and then I saw a pattern emerge. Once I got into the rhythm of things, the unsettled evenings seemed to work themselves out. He was sleeping through the night at 8 weeks old!!!! (another story now though!!) Hang in there, you will be absolutely fine. We're all here to support you.
Peanutter Have you thought about getting a Nintendo DS or something so you can do brain training whilst having a stagnant moment? I got one for my birthday and it's a good toy to have. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday (or was it the day before ) I hope you got spoilt in between your salt baths and feeding. I also hope that your DH isn't too into the "Football" and forgets about pampering his milking wife! Oh and with your booby lump, go into the shower and try and massage it out under the warm/hot water, and keep feeding despite any pain! I remember I got an awful lump with Max and I had to push through it....luckily it didn't end up as mastitis, as I'm sure MT can explain, it would be the absolute pitts!
Hi to everyone else.....With these new forums is there any way you can see the previous posts from the page before? That's why I'm not doing persies for all coz I can't remember what's on the previous page! I'm thinking of you all though Sharon, Ellie, Peta and all the girls who haven't even been back!
AFM I have discovered that keeping Max out or megga busy is the way to do it! Which means not sitting for hours staring at Darcie....instead she gets shoved into the electronic swings and swings her little heart out while I play! So lucky having Mum here as Max loves her too, but she does sigh and huff and puff a bit when Max only wants to play with her! I notice it especially like now I'm on here! Maxy likes to play outside, even when it's still freezing cold out there! SOMEONE has to play with him too, which is a bit annoying! This morning he was with Mum reading a book in her bed and Mum said to him "Give me those Dummies" to which Max replied "Not by the hairs on my chinny chin chin".....what a crack up! That's what makes all the difficulties with him just melt away and vanish!
Darcie is being pretty good....She feeds roughly 3 hourly, sometimes a little sooner. She tends to fall asleep on the boob, and I must try and keep her awake more, as she falls asleep, has a break, then wants to feed again an hour later sometimes. I don't want it to be that I'm feeding her too close together coz of the tummy upsets. I'm also trying to remember the foods that can cause more tummy upsets with the little ones....anyone know!? I know chocolate can be a bad one....which isn't good for me, and I'm wondering whether the curry that I had the other night may have caused her sore tummy on that very unsettled night. She is funny too, at night she doesn't cry for a feed....she just kind of grunts and kicks around. Last night she was a bit of a fidget (Miskilla I have one of those bed thingy's for in my bed too! It makes life much easier as a co-sleeper when you know you don't need to get a dead arm or just NOT MOVE all night!) grunting and stretching. She also always tries to get her hands out of her wrap! She keeps hacking her face up with her nails, which doesn't make for a pretty little girl! The little mitten things I have too just keep falling off.
She actually doesn't mind having her nappy changed anymore either, and is starting to kick around looking at more things! She is a cute one and I totally LURVE her!
Well...better go...Max is in and wants me to play outside with a tennis ball now! Darcie is STILL swinging!!!
Ok. While i've got a spare 5mins I'll try and get some persies done. If I miss you I'll be back later on to catch up with you.
Ellie - Re nappy changes my DH is the same with both girls. I have to constantly ask if his done it! LOL
Sharon - glad to hear the colic relief is working. I LOVE that brand of products and use it heaps with Miss J for all different things. Also glad to see that chiro is working. I'm looking into it for Sheriden. Maybe it will help things to settle down
Peanutter - Hope you had a great birthday! How are the cloth nappies going? We use disp on both girls at night time. I find it easier. Miss J will wet through a cloth one at night. Hope Joshs weight starts improving for you guys and glad to hear theres no infections of anything there!
Miskilla - Wow! What a stressful situation! it sounds like you did an amazing job under the circumstances. Enjoy your little man!
MM - I know what you mean about keeping them busy. I'm working on it with Miss J
Re. Food. I think broccoli is another one that can cause an upset stomach too??? And I so get you with the wrapping thing. Miss J was like this. I ended up wrapping her in a cot sheet! LOL
Crumpet - keeping my fingers crossed for you. Glad to hear things are going well so far! xxx
AFM - Sheriden is still REALLY unsettled. I'm going to take her and get her checked for reflux. She's happy enough if she is upright but other than that she just SCREAMS! I've start expressing off some milk before each feed so shes not getting so much and spoke to the tresillian nurses who said about trying to push out her feeds to 2 hours! Hmm... have they listened to a screaming baby for HOURS on end like that?!? 2 hours is going to do my head in even more!! She's still not sleeping much (apart from this one (shes been asleep now for just over 3 hours ) TBH i'm just enojying the break atm! I've come to accept that at least until we can get to the dr and start getting things sorted out we will be co sleeping. So Looking forward to my mum coming back...
Miss J has started waking 2 or 3 times a night so DH is getting up to her and sleeping in the spare bed with her just to get her back to sleep and make sure the rest of us can get some sleep. OH man! I can't wait for thigns to settle into a routine!!!
Miss J is loving being a big sister. Lots of kisses and cuddles. Shes mostly better now so she is being more reasonable than when Sheriden first came home.
We are in the process of packing to move (move in 4 weeks) which has been a challenge to say the least. Miss J wants to unpack everything or pack things we don't need and trying to do it with a scremaing newborn.... hmmmm..... thats all I can say about that LOL
A bit of a all about me post.
Took Sheriden to the dr today and as I thought... they are pretty sure it's reflux It's kind of comforting to know that I now I have something to work with. Have started with Zantac tonight so we will see how it goes.
Last night was the best night we've had since we came home. Sheriden slept with us and only woke 4 times during the night and Miss J slept through. Sheriden is in her bed now so let see how it goes Cross your finger girls! I'll go insane otherwise! xx
Sunshine - glad you're getting some answers! With ds1 it took about 4-5 days for the medication to take effect properly so keep on hanging in there and persevering with it! Do you have her cot raised? Phonebooks under the legs of the cot helped us as well.
Keep chiro in the back of your mind, it's supposed to help heaps for reflux. Logan is now burping like a trouper after each feed which is great! He's still having trouble getting farts out though.... not like dh and ds!
Anyway, all good this end with the new addition. Ds1 however has turned into a right little *****!!! He's usually a really gentle kid but the last few weeks has been hitting and pushing friends and their younger siblings. Today was the final straw when he hit his friends younger brother with a toy in the mouth and made him bleed! God knows what I'm going to do with him
sunshine - so pleased that you have some answers.. that you now get some positive results!
sharon - glad that your little man seems to be doing well too Hope that your DS1 behaves, though ... must be stressful - particularly as it's so out of character!
afm - for reasons unknown to me, Joshua just wouldn't settle today, except for when he was sucking my finger ... he woke at 5.30am for his middle of the night feed (usually between 3 and 4am, so that was GREAT to get an extra couple of hours' sleep! praise God!) and so DH did that feed (being a work day, I would have done 3am, and DH would do 7am - but as it was inbetween, DH did so that I got more sleep, and he didn't miss out on doing a feed - score!). So Josh next needed a feed around 9.30am.
I then had a visitor from 10.30am until noon, and while he had lots of cuddles with her, and also with me, he was pretty grizzly and restless. After she left, I wrapped him and put him down (he was basically asleep by then) and went to have a very overdue salt bath.
Almost as soon as I got in, he started crying again - oh no! I had a short bath, but he was still probably crying for about 10-15 minutes. I felt terrible, but if I get an infection and end up in hospital again, that would be terrible for Joshua (as he'd have to be in with me - provided that the antibiotics or other treatments don't interfere with BF) so I got myself cleaned and sorted out, then carefully dried and dressed quickly.
I then fed him again around 1pm, but as we've been wondering whether his grizzling and recent extra perking is due to tummy upsets from overfeeding, I fed him from one side only, then burped, then looked for any cues that he needed more BF. He looked fine, so after cuddling for about 10 minutes, I expressed. He got grizzly, so I tried him on the breast again, but he wasn't hungry ... so I tried him in all different positions - no bone. So I gave him my finger to suck, and kept expressing (160mls - lots!).
At 2.30pm we were picked up by my parents to visit dad's mum. Joshua grizzled most of the way there, most of the time we were there, and most of the way home. He would be happy when sucking my finger, and sometimes when just being cuddled by me, but was otherwise grizzly, or actually crying.
We got home around 5pm, and I fed him again - he took a fair amount, and after having a break of around 10mins between sides, took both breasts. When I expressed afterwards, I only got around 20ml so I assume he drank quite a bit - making me wonder whether I should have pressed him more to take the second breast at him 1pm feed ... or maybe he's just had enough of being cuddled by other people, and just needs a day or two of mummy-and-daddy-only time?
After that feed he finally went down, and has been sleeping ever since - I'll be getting him up in a minute to feed, and will then feed again at midnight, hoping that he'll sleep for a long while afterwards... Six hours, please darling son?
I'm still wondering about silent reflux and overfeeding ... but after the last BIG feed, he's been fine, so maybe not ... if only there was some way to know for sure how much milk he needs, and how much he's getting when BF!
Tomorrow is just a plain day at home with Josh and me, so hopefully he'll be more settled, and I can get a better reading on what (if anything specific) is upsetting him, and we can sort this all out.

Peanutter - I don't really have any answers for you re overfeeding. From everything I've read it seems that babies just know how much they need..... Maybe the quiet day at home will help Josh settle a bit.
Sharon - glad to hear DS2 is burping well. DS1 must be feeling a bit put out with his new brother, poor little tacker. It must be hard when you have 2 to balance your time between them.
Sunshine - here's hoping the Zantac help with Sheridan's reflux & you can get some sleep!
Miskilla - I can't believe your mum. Sadly, she is the one missing out on Zarlen and she is not punishing you so much as herself.
Yules - I just realised you changed your name! Glad to hear Darcie & Max are going well.
Crumpet - congrats on reaching 10 weeks! I hope everything continues going well for you.
HI to everyone else.
Aly has been to her first work conference this week. The last 2 days I have taken her with me to work and she has been a gem. All my work mates have been most helpful, taking turns to nurse her. They have all said she is a really good baby, so hopefully it continues like that. I was a bit scared about taking her, but all in all its been positive. I am leaving her with Nanna tommorrow though so I can enjoy the final day without worrying.
Anyway, take care & hopefully you all get some quality sleep! Speak soon.
So sorry I've not been in much either, the days just seem so full at the moment, it seems it's harder than usual to get time for bellybelly
I've been out a lot over the past few weeks & I'm dying for a day at home just to slow down a little!
Master C is stirring so I'll have to keep it short, will hopefully get on tomorrow!
Crumpet - The nappy covers were a custom order I had done by Maz (she's a BB member)
if you search her she has a link in her signature for her business
Otherwise i can PM you her details!
Sunshine - so glad you have some answers, answers means you can work with it for a solution!
Hoping you start to get some relief soon xxx
Peanutter - Hoping everything is getting better for you too xxx
Big hi to everyone else!!!
As for us, e erything is fairly cruisey here, not too much to report.
I had my 6 week check yesterday & all is great, my c/s scar has healed well & I had a pap smear & all is good there too
My OB was also my fertility specialist, so it was a little bitter sweet leaving his office yesterday after years of seeing him & the nurses on a regular basis.
We spoke to him in regards to how long we should leave it before we start the next cycle of IVF, I want to breastfeeding Carmelo for 12 months if all goes well, so he said to do that, wait until I have one period & then come back & see him.... So we're basically looking at 12 months from now which is good.
Enough time to enjoy this little man, but not leaving it too long to start again.
I can't imagine it will take as long this time around now that all is fixed, but I'm not game enough to believe it will happen first go either! ( As lovely as that would be )
We have our 6 week check with the paedeatrician tomorrow, they wanted to see him at 6 weeks because he was born early.
Apart from that, I've had a few issues with cracked/sore nipples, but nothing major.
Will try & get on tomorrow & become regular again!!!!
Hi everyone
Just popping in quickly to see how everyone's going...crazy busy here...don't know how I'm going to do it all on my own once my mum stops coming everyday to help...Friday is 6 weeks so I can drive again..woo.hoo..and off to the health nurse for the big weigh in. Ex
Hi Everyone!! Just found some time to jump on quickly! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their little newborns!!
I've just had my 4 week check with the MCHN. Not too much to report - but everything is going just swimmingly. Despite my having mastitis briefly little miss E put on 670gms since the last appointment (2 weeks). She now weighs 4495gms. All that weight but she only grew 0.5cm!! Head expanded 1.5cm. The reason I am so excited about all this is that it is very different from my experience with Jett, and it is such a relief to know that everything is progressing as it should be. She is happy and settled all the time, sleeps well, fills her nappies well, feeds really well - quickly and efficiently, and the little smiles I am getting are just heart-melting.
There is still a small part of me that keeps thinking that this is all just a little bit too easy and I am missing something...
Ok, better go, my baby is doing really well, however my housework is severely lacking!!!
MT - Loving to hear that Emmelyn is going so well.
Darcie is too....her feeds at night are starting to go a bit longer. Nice for me! During the day though she does get quite disturbed, and has some random screamy moments...which I haven't figured out what that's about yet! She also has MEGGA nappy rash....any tips people? I bought some Moo Goo today for it...hopefully it will help.
Yules - took me a minute to figure out who you were!!!!
Nappy rash - I'm using Bottom Balm from Natures Child (I bought it from The Natural Newborn). It's done the job fantastically! I've also switched to cloth nappies as well as cloth wipes and haven't had any nappy rash since I've made the change.
Back later for more, trying to get the big kids bathed and dinner cooked!
Yules - With the nappy rash, when we saw the paedeatrician last week for Carmelos 6 week check, he told me in his opinion Desitin was the best cream.
We haven't had any nappy rash at all yet either (touch wood)... Like Sharon, I'm using cloth wipes & nappies so not sure if that's a factor?
I have read that it's the disposable wipes that cause the irritation moreso than the nappies, but who can say really
I do know I'm in LOVE with foamy wipes wash!!! (the solution to use with the cloth wipes).
Carmelo had what looked like a tiny blister on his bottom, which the paed said was common in breastfed babies if they're overfed
(my little piggy, lol!)
Caused from the breastmilk being a little acidic & a newborns tummy not being able to digest it completely if they have too much.
I'm a little off topic, but that's how it came about that he mentioned the Desitin cream.
I've used it on him for the last few days & his blister is gone
