MP, so very sorry to hear about your grandfather. Glad you were all there to see him off though. I would double check with ABA if your SIL can use your BM, nice of you to offer.

MD, I was thinking about you the other day after I let rip with the naughty F word in front of W. He was walking down the hallway later saying Fwuk, Fwuk, so I started saying 'Flick, Flick, are you flicking something?' and then the whole matter dropped (thankfully!)

Clare, your avvy is looking lovely. Your midwife appointment sounds good. I liked them coming to the house, didn't have to drag W around everywhere. It is crazy that midwife led care is only for a minority in Australia when it is the accepted standard practice here.

Does anyone have any tips to get toddlers to eat more? W eats like a bird and he is so skinny you can see all his bones. Hugging him is a bit gross because he is like a skeleton but I can't think of any way to increase his food intake (unless I let him eat biscuits all day).

Arte, that is the $64,000 question ROFL. Seriously, don't worry about it too much. A tends to do the king - prince - pauper thing - eats like a king at breaky and gets worse as the day goes on unless we have hot chips for dinner ROFL. Like today, he ate a bowl of nutrigrain (probably a cup of cereal plus milk) and a banana with the other three while they were having breakfast, then after we came back after putting them on the bus he had two entire slices of rasin toast with butter and another banana. and this was all before 8.30. He keeps eating OK up till lunchtime when he has a sandwich, of which he will sometimes eat the crusts and sometimes not and a small drink of weak cordial but come dinner time at night he's lucky to eat half his dinner unless we are having something he really loves like hot chips or pasta.

Glad I hold such a positive association for you

Re the food, can you value add to make his food a bit more calorific? Full cream dairy, add an extra slice of cheese to sandwich, extra milk/cream in his soup, etc? Or maybe tell him he can have a biscuit AFTER he has something else (sandwich, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, boiled egg, whatever). Or LOL just feed him hot chips all the time, Missy E is guaranteed to polish them off no problems - that's a parenting strategy right up there with teaching our toddlers how to swear

    Clare - great belly!!

Arte - K isn't very good at eating dinner in our house, but I put a lot of that down to too many snacks after getting home from child care. I did notice last weekend with her cousin here how much more she ate with another little one around. Could you do some lunchtime picnics with the little boy next door?

Arte & MD - DD bit me last week!! I was so taken aback I wasn't really sure at first and then the pain hit me. We were out at a club for dinner and I marched her off to the front door and just plonked her down. She sat there while people walked in and out, looking like a little lost person. Still had a bruise 4 days later. We haven't had a biting incident for well over 6 months.

    Hi girls
Cally – ouch!!! Is she getting molars? I find N can get a little bitey when his teeth hurt…
Lol at the associations MD… you crack me up! I’d also wolf down dinner if someone gave me hot chips…
Re the eating – breakfast is the worst for us… he now has a yoghurt when he gets up (was squeezie yoghs but now tubs) – as soon as he wakes. I then make him bfast (cereal, muffins, crumpets toast) which he rarely eats. Occasionally he will have a piece of fruit too. I am trying not to worry about it, just make it, we all eat and he gets up from table and plays.. I guess eventually he will eat bfast (well I hope so). I find he eats less at ‘meals’ now as he wanst to run around… so I try to get healthy things into him on the go. I often make him a little bowl of salad to eat while I get dinenr ready (chopped up capsicum and cucumber and avo and some cheese) – at least he has then had a whole heap of veg before dinner ‘starts’. Some days he wolfs down a huge dinner and sometimes not (same with lunch). I also find if he helps me cook he is moreinto eating it. So sometimes we do pikelets, mini pizzas etc together and he eats loads of them. I also give him 2 options sometimes and he will eat more if he is choosing what he wants. When he doesn’t eat I don’t say much about it, don’t want it to be a battle…
If I know he hasn’t eaten much I will plan something he will think is fun like sandwiches cut into shapes etc and I also do this if I know he is going somewhere where he may fill up on junk (so I do the veg etc beforehand).
At the moment things on a stick work LOL – so fruit on a stick, kebabs with meat, veg etc… that’s this week!

    hi girls

mp-so sorry to hear about your gf. big hugs to you.
N sounds like he eats a lot better quality food than L. i think he would throw the bowl at me if i tried to give him a salad! LOL. how does N go with fruit? L loves it.

trill- i hate group assignments. they seem to put you inbetween a rock and a hard place i reckon- like do i be assertive and take charge of this and end up doing the majority of the work or do i sit back and let everyones else do it. it's just too hard, especially with people you don't know. i really don't see how it helps you in your teaching. it's just a PITA!

md- how is miss E going today? hopefully she's feeling better. LOL at cat burglar

OObi winter range of clothes is out now for anyone that wants to check it out- there's a divine girls' coat and skirt...geeez i need a daughter!

    Ginger, I don't need a daughter, I just need disposable income .

MP they are great food suggestions. I want mini pizzas and pikelets now!

Cally - OUCH - though it sounds like you handled it well...she won't do it many times. I agree they do eat more when there's another little person around. We pack huge lunch boxes because she eats so much at FDC, compared to at home.

Missy E seems much better, we had dramas last night at dinner time which was probably just tiredness, she went down last night and we didn't hear a peep out of her for the WHOLE NIGHT! I talked to her quite a lot yesterday about lying down snuggly in her bed and not calling out for Mummy and Daddy so maybe it was my extraordinary skills of persuasion or maybe she's just over it now and able to sleep properly again. Either way I"m still loading her up with probiotics, figure it can only help.

Getting ready for a round of battles with DD1 this weekend over her ridiculous "gold rush" project *sigh* which she predictably has left until the last few weeks of term. They have to design and construct a piece of equipment that could be used for getting alluvial gold (along with a number of written tasks). FFS! And because I'm a mean mummy I insist she goes to the library to get "old fashioned" information out of books which rankles because she thinks she can get find everything on google.

G this is the first time that they have done the groups I think so they are working out teething problems as they go. I felt bad for some groups because there were a few people who posted on our forums and said that there were only 2 or 3 of them doing any work, yet the other slackers got the benefit of the work. You can just take the lead all the time either, there has to be two different people leading each task. But if the group leaders for this one don't get it right I will certainly let them know LOL.

MD, that's great to hear that she slept so well last night, I hope it wasn't a once off.
Cally, that would have looked kinda cute to see her sitting there LOL, but ouch at the biting!

G, you can be Miss A's style advisor if you want, I seriously have no idea what to do with a girl! I have been wondering for ages but have no one to ask - can you dress girls in tights and skivvies? Do they go together?

Cally, bugger about the biting! W has never ventured into that thank goodness, because I suspect the tide of F words that would create would be shameful!

MD, yay for the all nighter. We aren't getting many around here. I bought a pack of babylove nappies and the stupid things keep leaking - last night I heard him creeping around, his nappy had leaked so he got up, stripped off (in the wardrobe??), wandered around looking for a new nappy and then jumped back into bed buck naked.

Sounds like everyone eats more than W. He will eat half a bowl of cereal (dry) or half a peice of toast for brekky, a few crackers, half an apple, muesli bar, a novelty packaged snack and then half of bugger all for tea. I measured and weighed him the other day (half birthday time) and in 6 months he put on 0.1kg.

Arte, we had babylove nappies from the seconds shop - they were hopeless overnight, I started buying Huggies cos I was sick of the leakages. DH brought 2 boxes of Aldi nappies home from his last trip away so we're happily nappied again. DD had a strip off poo in the cot episode at FDC the other day - so glad it wasn't at home

Yeah G be our style advisor. I'll admit to being daughter-fashion clueless. Grown up lady fashion clueless too. Arte I have always put my girls in 'practical' clothes like jeans and trackies for everyday and left the skirts & tights and things for those days when we want to look a bit more presentable. I would imagine your number 1 criteria for A's next phase of wardrobe is warmth!

Trill I have no doubt you will open a can of whoop-ass on those other group leaders if needed. The slackers will be revealed when they do their individual projects.

omg i would love to be miss A and miss E's style advisor!!!

arte- i'm not sure if you can buy oobi in nz, but i would definitely be buying one of their pinafore dresses (or probably 2 of them and putting them over skivvies and tights. - check out cradlerock for internet purchases. i would also be buying a velour hooded tracksuit to wear around the house LOL, even though they are very Roberta Williams, i just love them LOL

md- how's the alluvial gold project going? sounds pretty full-on if you ask me. are you going to construct it using balsa wood and icy-pole sticks? LOL

yeah babylove sux. we try to stick to huggies and aldi around here.

Alluvial gold project going very badly after DD deserted her research post at the library in favor of the graphic novels area. Very cranky mummy. We haven't even gotten any where near the construction part yet...*deep breath* Her dad might be helping with that.

I helped things along - first of all offered different drinks and a cuddle from daddy in the middle of the night...then the daytime feeds kinda naturally shrunk as she was going to FDC and having sippy cups of milk there - so we got to the point where it was just mornings & afternoons. With DD1 I kept up the morning feed and night feed ...eventually she got busy enough that she wasn't interested anymore. So I helped it along but then she finally decided she'd had enough, the feeds got shorter and shorter and that was it. With Missy E we were pretty much down to morning & night feeds, then I was having gallstone attacks & taking drugs for that so I would avoid feeding her when I was under the influence - and then just distracted with her with other drinks to wean her by the time I had surgery. DD1 remembered & talked about BFing for a long time afterwards but Missy E doesn't seem to even remember, even tho she weaned only 2 months or so earlier.

    hi girls!

Sherie: all the offer of advice i can give re the group work is a deep breath the knowlege that soon it will all be over man, i really hated the stuff and dont really understand it's point.

Arte: i'd so go for Gs tip of the pinafore with skivvy and tights. you can then use all the lovely flowy dresses that otherwise would only ever see the light of day in the brief summer. we do it all the time!
another one i like are ruffle bum nappy cover type things (oobi and CR do them...) and have tights working under that too.

urgh. dont even get me started on babyluv. we are a huggies/woolies home brand family for night time here.

MD: ha ha! i also would of skivved off to the graphic novel section....te he he. alluvial gold vs. bacchus????? really? do we need to think about that LOL!

    ...

ok, need some advice...we have BumGenius AIO pockets. have been using them since Leila was about 4/5 months old, and the elastic has gone on many around the leg area. i NEED to get them fixed. but being a non-sew person, i need to find someone that does. does anyone know anyone that can do this stuff??? i hijacked Arte's post in the MCN thread the months ago, and arimeh knew someone but she has been offline lately, so thought to pick your lovely lady brains...

oh, i forgot Gs question the BF thing.

we werent mega proactive in weaning...we were thinking of it when i realised that she was already starting to cut down. basically we started the whole offering after eating, not using boob as the only form of solace (ie. DH would try to resettle her at night, or distract her during the day). offer her a drink/food. gosh, it does sound proactive, but in honesty it felt very normal. also, i found that as we went out more etc and there were loads of kids around she felt that there wasnt time to waste on the boob LOL!

the first feed we cut out was the morning as DH started to get up with her instead of me and he would give her milk in a sippy cup...kinda went from there really...
