Well according to ck for me, I should be on 1880 while bf'ing. So saying I havent stuck to strict calorie counting... But I'm probably eating around that mark & have been losing an average of .45kg a week since march.
Hehe. So do you then go measure the string? I remember doing that with DD's 30cm school ruler ages ago.
Beckoes way to go on the loss
SJ I've heard a few others sticking to the 2000cal or more a day with BF. I don't think you don't want to go lower then that.
Other then eating some chocolate and 1 anzac cookie I had a good day yesterday (for me) hopefully today will be better. I'm of to do some measurements which I have never done but I hate seeing the scales go up and down and up again so thought I'm going to do away with the scales for the next few weeks and might give the tape a work out instead.

Hi all, still plodding along slowly. Although I said I wouldn't, I weighed myself yesterday and though I wasn't surprised after the few weeks I have had with my eating (terrible!!) I have sadly gained back the weight I lost in that past month or so. Only 2-3kg, but still I was so proud for being under 90kg finally, the first time in so long, and now I'm back up to 91kg
Ah well, back to it I suppose. I am hoping to go for a wakl this arvo. I have been doing lots of heavy house work, like vacuuming the whole house every second day (at least a 20min activity!), cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen really well (liek scrubbing tiles ect), a little gardening, as well as doing some games on the wii (not the wii fit, just games) with DD and DS1. So although I haven't been actually exercising, I am trying to be more active in my daily activities, the plus side being I have a clean house too! I want to get a pedometer because I am sure I am not doing anything near 10000 steps a day being at home with the kids. We don't go anywhere really, or do that much through the week (we live in the sticks, there's not very much to do!), so I don't think I would reach 10000 steps at all. And that is probably including a 40min walk each day!
Eating is so so. DH is so not helping me. We both need to and want to lose weight, but we just can't both get it together at the same time! When he falls off the wagon, I've just gotten back on, and vice versa. We are having a tough time supporting each other because we are both struggling so much individually! It sucks! Plus he is working alot, and DS2 isn't sleeping too well, so we are totally sleep deprived. I actually have been reading a bit about sleep deprivationa nd trying to lose weight/eat right. And sleeplessness does nothing for a person who is trying to eat well and have some will power!!
But I will keep on trying, I have to get ehre sooner or later right??
that sounds like my day, dont really do a whole lot, just at home most days, maybe go out in the morning to the playground or shopping before dh goes to work in the arvo....one good thing about living too far to walk to the shops and having no car, if its not in the house...i cant have it. so really my will power onlyhas to last a short time when we are out shopping and then by the time we are home and i want to eat a cubic meter of chocolate, its tough casue it isnt in the house!!
belfie: that sounds about righti guess, before i changed my eating habits i would have been eating well over that, but now ive cut out all the high cal stuff i found i was actually eating about 1400cal, so i have had to through a few healthy snacks in to make sure im not affecting my milk etc. did you see that link i posted??
mildez: i think going by measurments is a much better way to do it, i recon scales can be very fickle and can depend on water retention or muscle built and dont really give you the best idea of 'fat lost' which, lets be honest, is what we are trying to loose![]()

dh has taken dd1 out for the morning and dd2 is asleep....might do a cheeky 20 mins of cardio while i have the time!!!
todays goals;
-cardio
-water
-walk
-low salt
-no snacking
-do a good healthy food shop with yummy meals to keep me happy!!
have a great day everyone!!
here's a question. I'm on my second week in a row where I seem to have this foul head cold (it's like I had a different one last week). So I googled and it suggested that you shouldn't exercise if you have a fever or symptoms "below the neck". With me its very standard head colds. Sore throat, sore head blah blah. So what would you guys do? I've been just doing as much or as little exercise as I feel like. Yesterday I felt crap so just did 30 mins walk. Today I feel a bit better, so did 30 mins walk plus 20mins exercise bike. We've had a bad run of lurgies (who doesn't with a toddler & bub in the house tho?!?!), so I guess it made me question whether i'm doing the right thing or not.
Beckoes - that was a great link. I reckno that's pretty much what I'm doing too, as I do eat extra when I exercise. I've also found my supply has been fine with what i've done (admittedly she was already 6 months old , so i guess supply was very well established). How did you go with your goals today? Great set of goals!
Lilias - you WILL get there. I figure it's like... if worst comes to worst & you do nothing... (or gain) you'll eventually get so pee'd with yourself you'll get mad & start to try lose. So given you know that, you might as well just do it now! And honestly, feeling better about yourself is worth way more than that little bit of chocolate or fatty food here & there. It's hard when you're not in the same place with your partner. DH and I have that - he's as heavy as he's ever been right now but is also battling a whole range of health problems (including meds with weight gain side effects). I've had to just cut him loose (so to speak hahah) and go it on my own - and I actually feel better for doing it this way . I reckon your activity levels sound great. Honestly most of my time has just been doing 30 mins walk a day - if you're doing 40 mins, that's great. I reckon the key to success for me was just setting some really specific, measurable, achievable goals each week - how did I want to eat, what exercise did I want to do. And then the kilos will take care of them pesky selves. And my penance was that if I didn't see the rewards I hoiped for, I had to track my food (which I hate doing) and increase my exercise. Thus the punishment fit the crime so to speak. And eating well to avoid tracking calories is a marvellous incentive for me!
Not weighing till end of the week - af is due too, so that changes things up a bit with weight loss - but my pants feel a tad looser on the thigh which has to be good!
Belfie: i love the way you talk yoursefl into eating well etc...i recon if you can trick yourself into doing it, thats half the battle won!!! sounds like you have yoursefl sussed out and a great plan in place!!
ausgirl: good idea, good that your pants feel looser...hope you get the numbers you are hoping for!!
AFM:
Yesterday goals;
-cardio....tried to find a clip on youtube that i could do for abit of cardio but i could find anything i liked/enjoyed/felt mortivated to do, so i ran up our drive way ten times. Its a big hill and about 400meters. so that pretty much killed me! but felt good!!!
-water...actually fell a bit short today, 1.5litres. do better today!
-walk.... went food shopping instead, so didnt have time, but made sure i was active with dd1 the rest of the day
-low salt.... had stiffry for dinner with soy, so maybe not a low salt as i could have been, but super healthy so thats ok.
-no snacking.... just nuts, fruit salad and some veg soup. although i had steak and a poached egg for breakfast![]()
-do a good healthy food shop with yummy meals to keep me happy!!..... super healthy shop...no naughties atall, even for dh, i told him if he wants anything he can buy it while hes out and eat it at work!!
same goals again today!!!
Yep
So i have a new tape measure and i have checked the peice of string (which i know was right on Saturday) and i measured myself and i have lost a bit (well actually more than i thought i would...) so I think that i must have ben exceptionally bloated ion Saturday... Anyway, i will do a proper weigh in and measure on Saturday
question where exactly do you measure your waist.. i alway thought that it was the narrowest part of your torso when standing up - Is this what everyone else is doing?
Beckoes - i cant believe you did all that running - thats awesome
Lilias - you would probably be surprised how much you do when you have kids and do house work... today i have done some shopping, mopped te floors, done the washing and just done a general tidy up and i am already up to 6,000 steps - i am walking far more than i use to when i was working... i bought a really good one from D ick smith, cost about $30 but it alarms when you hit 10,000 steps - i LOVE hearing it
Belfie - re the colds... you immune system is weaker and in overdrive when you are sick, if you limit the calories that you are consuming when you are trying to get better there is less energy to do so.
Ausgirl - my clothes are starting to feel a bit looser too - i am so tempted to weigh myself
got another question... i know that i am prone to snacking in the evening, possible out of boredom and is also a bit of emotional eating as well as a low after the final BF of the day, i was thinking that i would leave a quantity of uneaten calories for the evening as i know that i cant stop myself right now - last night i had a few cups of tea (decaf) to try not to snack but i was sooo hungry -
we eat dinner at 6pm and between 6-8.30pm i cluster feed Miss A so probably 2-3 feeds in this time and she is fed once sometimes twice overnight.
I know its not good to eat late at night, but surely not eating and having to do so many feeds is not good?
What would you eat at this time - i bought some low cal muesli bars and have stocked up on fruit... what do you reckon?
Goals for today
10,000 steps
1.5-2L water
Cook a healthy soup
No naughty snacks
Have a great day everyone
i think your right measuring at the narrowest point, a few inches above belly button. and your hips is around the widest part of you body round your bum![]()
im paying for that running today sj!!! oh the pain!
im a late night snacker too!! thats my worst time. after dinner!! i have something like a yoghurt and fruit after dinner. i try to make it really yummy, like making a berry coulis mix and adding some crushed almonds and putting it in a fancy glass so i feel special eating it!!then later i have been having a few cellery sticks with a tiny bit of peanut butter, less that a teaspoon between a few sticks. if im really struggling i have a mandarine, and i sit and pick of every bit of white pith and take all the pips out, it takes half an hour and totally takes my mind off eating something else!! its been working for me but it is hard! i think they suggest no carbs in the evening, so i guess fruit/nuts etc is better. and if you are staying within your cal intake then thats good too! thats what i tell myself anyway!!
apparently you burn 20 calories for every 1oz of milk. approx 500cals a day is used for breastfeeding.
good luck with todays goals SJ.![]()
Sammiejane, apparantly fruit is considered a carb, so you shouldn't eat it later in the day as it takes longer to burn (if you are trying to lose weight that is). Salsa is pretty low cal, perhaps some vege sticks dipped in that?
Thanks though Ausgirl

well I reckon I break all the rules then. My usual snack in the evening is one or two bits of toast with butter (yes BUTTER) and a milo. Or I have my second piece of fruit. But I don't snack as much in the day. I agree that when you BF in the evening you need something. I would have thought I couldn't possibly lose weight while having that in the evening, but it certainly seems to work fine for me. Maybe it keeps my metabolism running well? (along with the the BF'ing). So I personally I don't reckon it has to meet all the "rules".
sounds good to me....if its working for you who cares what the rules are!!
-cardio...didnt do. but will today
-water...1.5L again yesterday
-walk...didnt do either, went to the playground with dd1
-low salt...food was spot on yesterday so thats ok
-no snacking...spot on.
same again today but aim to do ALL of them today!!!
My face looks thinner
Good thing too as I am presenting at a conference this morning and I am crapping myself!!! Got to switch off this mummy Brain for just a little while
Loosing just a little bit has done wonders for my self confidence today!
Thanks helping everyone

GO SJ!!! isnt it great when you start seeing the hard work your putting in!! hope your presentation went well!
AFM: yesterday was a tough day, i really started to feel down about not having chocolate, i know its silly but i do love it oh so much. i asked DH to get a block for me today, but he told me to get in the kitchen and make something that wouldnt make me beat myself up in a fit of guilt afterwards!!
so i made these brownies, they are kinda healthy...as healthy as a brownie can be anyway. i had a super healthy day on the food, and did lots of activities with dd1, running up the driveway again, 20mins of dancing with dd in the kitchen, footy, cleaning!! so tonight iam looking forward to my treat!!
nice slice of brownie, with raspberry coulis and toasted almonds, i think a nice blob of yoghurt to go with it too. i recon that it will get me focused for another week and a bit!!
and i made DH take the rest to work with him so i really only get ONE SLICE!!!
hi all,
just wondering how i can lose weight while breastfeeding. my bub is now almost 18months and still feeding once at lunch, once at bedtime and then snacking (for comfort mostly) through the night. am studying for my honours at uni and so am pretty busy in a sedentary kind of way (reading, typing, more reading) but do try to get some exercise in each day, be it pilates or a 3-6km walk (30-60mins). am currently doing a food diary and am eating as healthily as i can stand by limiting carbs and then trying to cut them out by 3pm, avoiding sugars/baking, eating plenty of fresh fruit and veg and drinking water. am currently 84kg and want to get back to somwhere in the realms of my pre-preg weight of 62-67kg (have always gone up and down but never ...until baby lol... outside of this. although was underweight at 58kg when got pregnant, but apart from that... any thoughts/advice/support/criticism?
basically am counting calories per day of between upper 1500s to mid 1700s. is this okay? i love breastfeeding so don't want to jeopardise this, but surely since my darling is not taking all his nutritional needs from my milk it won't make too much difference to it's nutritional value? right...?
