Well done Belfie!
belfie... Wow, i would love to see the 60's again, was there before falling pg, but that seems so far away still!
Im not going to be too restrictive with my diet as
1) like Beckoes i LOVE my food and
2) i would hate to have my milk supply affected just for the sake of dropping the kgs!
I have been tossing up which way to go with a goal - weight or waist and i have decided that i am going with the waist measurement, as mentioned by PP's it is a health recommendation (and there is heart disease and Diabetes in our families) and also if i build muscle it will weigh more... besides that i am 'heavy' even when very slim, I can weigh the same as someone who is visually very overweight, yet i dont look the same - even though i am short... i know i am rambling here!!!
Right so here it is, to face facts and for EVERYONE to see, my waist is currently 91cmi really didnt think that i would be that
I have cut a piece of string that is that lenght and i lay it across our table and it is EXACTLY the same length (admittedly its not a huge table) but seeing that made it so much more real to me!!!
Re the hot chocolate vs Milo - Milo has more calories in it and i tend to use more milo that chocolate, so that tin is now going to be shoved to the back of the cupboard...
Beckoes - i am pretty stuck at home too, i have a car, but cant go to the gym or anything.... i just walk the streets around home with the dog and pram - we have foot paths though... could you get a few exercise DVD's? i am terrible at them, there is no time for me to do these unless i wake up early or do it after the kids are in bed and i have ZERO motivation for exercise then!
right off to make a ticker!
Well done Belfie!
sammiejane!! we have a similar goal....well done for putting out there, i think it helps!! good luck
well done belfie!!!!
and thanks for the tips ladies.
i thought my diet was pretty good but today i decided id check by counting cals for a few days....oh my god, i have got into bad habits and eventhough i used to read labels all the time i havnt for ages cause i thought i knew them, and im surprised at how much more things are worth than i remember...and how much over the 'serving size' ive been having. just with breakfast...two shredded wheat and milk...pretty healthy...not when ive been having over a cup ans a half of milk on it...so had half a cup this morning!
lunch...made dd and i tuna sarnies, normally tuna, blob of mayo, salad, bread..with butter. and id have polished off her left overs!! well....due to reading labels and really thinking about it...yoghurt instead of mayo, 4 rice crackers instead of 2 bread and avo instead of butter!
im not gping to count cals...i get too obsesed with it all and it becoms too tiring, but its good to remind myself what everything is worth!!
Sammiejane - lol I reckon you shouldn't be so hard on yourself! It's taken me 3.5 months & nearly 8kg to even GET to a 91cm waist hahahaha! So you're starting just where I am now, that's awesome. Personally I reckon it's worth doing both weight & measurements as I've found that some weeks I plateau on weight, but my measurements improve then vice versa. It helps keep me in sight of the bigger picture having both. But obviously depends on what works for you at the end of the day. And OMG re the hot choc versus the milo. I've been having milo thinking it was healthier lol! Aaah well I'm not too fussed.
Beckoes - totally agree that counting calories is a total obsessional PITA if you do it all the time. I reckon reminding yourself is a great idea.
And thanks everyone for the congratsI'm still stoked. Have updated all my post-it notes to say 60. Just did 20 mins exercise bike. I'm all fired up still lol.
Oh and I have to blow my own trumpet. DH ended up in hossie last night with a kidney stone. And I DIDN'T PIG OUT! I was so pleased that I didn't comfort eat. I thought about it, then I thought... nah, really what difference will having chocolate make? Pretty happy 'bout that too. (oh and he passed the stone & is back home too).
Belfie, sorry to hear about your DH, must have been awful for him, glad he has passed it now, what a worry...
Even though we have the same waist size I'm more than 10kg heavier than you, closer to 15kg actuallythat's why I don't know what to go on, my BMI says I'm obese, but if you looked at me you wouldn't think so, over weight yes, obese no....
Terrible night for me... I'm doing paid market research on chocolateto anyone else or me at any other time, this would be awesome!!!!
3 BIG blocks of chocolate in the house is not a good thing

belfie: hope your dh is ok, well done for not pigging out when you were on your own!! GO 60'S!!!!
sammiejane:what a way to make money!!!not good having the temptation there! and actually having to eat some would kill me....i couldnt just have one square!! luckily dh will eat anything sweet too...so if it was in this house,id just give it to him and it would be gone!!
yesterday was a pretty good day, opened my eyes about what i should and shoudnt be eating, even though i thought i knewit all! i can see why i havnt lost the weight after having dd2. not only the choc/sweets but i would pretty much always eat dd1s left overs...thinking nothng of it, but yesterday realised how much that adds! instead i made a huge pot of veg soup and snacked on that, and fruit, inbetween health meals, il be gutted if i dont loose *something* after changing my eating habbits so much....we will so on tuesday morning.
i really want to get electronic scales, we still have crappy old ones!
todays goals...
-actually drink 8 glasses of water.
-be more active
-keep on track with not snacking
-relax
I read an interesting article on emotional eating....Did you know going for a walk will release the same feel good serotonin that high in fat / sugary food will? AND without the guilt trip afterwards. BONUS huh?
Beckoes - thats exactly why I like counting my calories. I too thought I was eating healthy and well, but the quantities were just 'out there' lol. It really helps me make smarter food choices eg - 20 french fries vs 6 medium sized mandarines! I know what'll make me feel fuller for longer. Don't know if you have a Harris Scarfe in your State? They have massive sales often in SA - I bought my Taylor electronic scales for a steal (marked down from $200 to $80). I really like seeing the extra digits too!
Ausgirl - How are you going hun?
AFM - still plugging away, another week another kilo gone. Shape of my belly hasn't gone down much since having baby number 3 two months ago, but I guess that'll take some time. Until then shedding the additional fat should help decrease the size of it! Sorry if I make it sound fairly boring in my approach here, I do enjoy the challenge of losing weight, I love exercise and counting my calories - but I've learn't how to almost predict with great accuracy when I'm in for a gain and loss so I don't get too many surprises now! Lucky I get to share everyone elses excitement- I love that!
Sammiejane - BMI's are a pretty generalised figure, which is suitable for most of the general population. It wouldn't suit body builders / weight lifters and it'd be a mental nightmare to a pg lady too lol! So take it with a pinch of salt. Perhaps waist to hip ratio would be a better figure for you to go by (but I don't suggest you need any calculation to tell you you're fit and healthy on the same token, I believe you are capable of working that out yourself).
Belfie - So sorry to hear about your DH but woohoo for not comfort eating!! Looking forward to some brilliant news from you next weigh in! You're reaching a great milestone now hun!
Aaaaah Leesa, you're my inspiration thank you thank you. We had a bit of a poor day - DH is still recovering and while I had a good jog this arvo I also did do a bit of emotional eating... you know the whole, grumpy sick husband, grumpy toddler yah de yahdah. I just read this and thought, yup, I need to go for a walk! The housework can go eff itself for a bit!
You know what I wish - I wish our bodies came with little metres - so that you know when you put calories in, when to stop! Haha.
I was having a bit of a tough, I am starving days today - but was proud of the fact I only had one water cracker with this delicious (but really unhealthy) artichoke dip after church today! Maybe it's cause I did an hour vigorous walk yesterday? Anyway, I am not going to weigh again till Friday (hopefully!) as I anticipate the loss will slow down this week.
I hope to have lost a total of 5kg by Friday (so day 14) but we'll see!
Ausgirl - if I had a meter it would be sounding the alarm that it's going to explode!!!
Don't know what happened today, started off really well, had a late but healthy lunch then it went pearshapped.... So I hopped on the wii fit and did 25 mins (then dd2 needed a feed) and again I took a nose dive.
This evening I have snacked very very very badly and I don't know why. I have told DH that all the chocolate has to be gone by tomorrow or it will go in the bin, self control ATM is obviously bit a strong point!
Well off to bed, tomorrow is another day and I will
*drink 8 glasses of water
*do 10,000 steps
*NOT snack on anything other than fruit, veg and nuts
Sorry for lack of personals, on phone and have forgotten after my woe is me post
Back on it tomorrow

thats interesting about emotional eating,i do eat when im upset, but i also tend to bake when im really happy, casue i love it, and end up with a tray of cup cakes or a sticky pudding...all cause i was having a good day!!
leesa: stuck at the calorie counting today but i dont think il do it tomorrow. its just too much for me to get my head around. but i will keep an eye on the numbers and keep track in my head. just out of curiosity, whats your daily allowance.(interested to knows others numbers too...just for curiosities sake) i know its different for everybody depending on lots of different factors. but ive just been trying to work out how much i should be having. i read 12000kjs for a BF woman...that just seems HUGE!!! and 70g fat...that too seems huge! but then i dont really know!?
belfie:its tough when everyone is sick/grumpy....hope tomorrow is better!!
ausgirl:i think its great that you can give yourself a little flexibility, changing your weigh in day, help to keep you positve and in the end get a better result...go you!
Today, i reached my goals....drank 2L water. plus tea...with no sugar (been cutting down over the last week from 1tsp...to NONE)
-had a nice walk with everyone in the park and a walk round the markets and an active arvo.
-no snacking, even though we went to the local markets, normally get biscuits from this yummy stall...everone else had one...not meand then DH had hotdog...i waited till we got home to have veg soup...go me. and when my sweet tooth hit i had a stick of celery with half a teaspoon of peanut butter and a cuppa!
-had a lovely day, and have a beautiful dinner of lamb shanks with veggies, so yummy and i didnt stress about it as id had such a great day and stuck to all my goals.
ended the day HAPPY!
tomorrows goals:
-keep up the water/no snacking except fruit/nuts
-do some PROPER cardio excercise! 30 minutes over the day.
-try to cut out as much salt from my diet as i can....i eat ALOT of salt!!!![]()
Belfie - no worries hun. I just know I feel worse after eating poorly (worse than I did to begin with) partly because I feel like I've wasted time exercising to go and stuff it up by giving in to the temptation, partly coz some foods which I'm not used too just make me feel yuck lol!
Beckoes - I remain under 1200 calories daily, and I don't eat back any calories I burnt off during exercise.
Afm - reckon I'm in for a gain tomorrow, I ate three mini 97% fat free muffins (@ 58 calories each) and we had tacos (high in salt for dinner). I did 45 mins rpm as I normally do (burnt 470 cals there) and also did a mini pump session for 40 mins (burnt an extra 170 cals, which I don't normally do). I'm thinking it'll be a 200 gram gain....anymore than that and watch me kick myself up the ar$e lol!
That would be so great if we did have one of these inbuilt.
Beckoes sound like you had a great day and yumm on your dinner. I love lamb.
Leesa probably a dumb question but whats wrong with high in salt? I know salt retains fluid but it doesn't help you store fat does it?
I've been MIA as Ive been dealing with sick kids, then my nephew has been really unwell but is recovering now as well as my bub who seems to be almost over what she had. No more excuses. I wont be watching my kilos just going to go with the flow, increase my water intake and do a food diary. I'm going to record everything. Exercise at the moment is housework. I don't want to take my bub outside and DH is not supportive what so ever. I ask DH everyday last week to be home by 5 so there is a little daylight to go walking and his hasn't been home before 6. So pee'd off. The only consolation is he has been taking DD4 with him alot.
You are right Mildez. And no its not a dumb question at all! Salt doesnt store fat at all, but it does retain fluid - hence the reason for my substantial gain this morning
. It is also linked to increasing blood pressure and puts a lot of strain on the kidneys if a high salt diet is regular thing in a persons life.
So whilst, yep one day doesn't seem all that bad - I have retained fluid for two reasons. Doing body Pump last night (weight training will retain fluid in the muscles) and the tacos = one yucky weigh in this morning.
So I feel a lot of cardio coming on today to get rid of that excess fluid!
Hi again
Mildez - it sucks when the kiddies are sick doesnt it
Leesa - hopefully your weigh in wasnt too bad this morning
RE the calorie counting, i have the spark people app on my phone from when i was trying to loose weight after my m/c... it tracks calories etc etc so i thought that i would plug in what i am eating for the day and see how i am going - might continue this, but i am not going to be strict - going to aim for about 2000/day because of BF - do you think that this is too low?
So i have picked myself up from the weekend heap and am feeling beeter and otivated aginSo far today i have walked just under 12,000 steps (decided to walk to Cc this morning with MJ) had 8 glasses of water already and have only has one snack of tropical fruit and nut mix.... BUT 100grams (which is a small tupperware snack cupful) is 493 calories!!! thats almost a quarter of my daily intake
Feeling good and REALLY hoping to make a difference this weeks so that i have a bit of a loss...
Have a great day girls
i missed your post before!!! sorry you had such a crappy day...like you said, tomorrow is another day and it sounds like you had a much better day today!!! hugs.
i have been doing a load of reading about how much a bf woman should have, found this page writen by the gov, hope its ok to post the link, sorry if im not allowed ... http://www.health.gov.au/internet/he...-feeding-women its a bit long winded but breaks it down really well for you.
mildez:hope everyone is better soon so you can focus on your self a bit more!
Leesa:thanks for that info on salt...just as i had said in a previous post about eating less salt! interesting! you are a wealth of knowledge
AFM didnt reach all my goals today ... water..tick. no snacking..tick. low salt..tick. 30 minutes cardio...FAIL.
although i did do a massive house clean in the morning, including a big vac and good mop of floors, and i put my back into it. so maybe that might count as something.
as i said before its not really possibly for me to walk anywere as we live on a country lane that i dont feel comfortable walking down with the girls on my own due to people racing down there...but dh said we would try it out in the morning and hed come too, see if its as bad as i think it will be. so if its ok, that opens up the possibility of a good hours walk to the post office box. that will be a big help.
weigh in tomorrow and i know it wont be what i was hoping for, i was kind of hoping for some result to kick start things, and i have totally changed my eating habbits, like..halved my callorie intake for a day...easily..but i dont think il get that result....we will see!!!
just weighed in. lost half a cm! actually pretty happy with that. lost a bit of weight, but with such rubbish scales i dont really know how much. looks just over a kilo or something.![]()
well done!
I am going to buy a proper tape measure today, a price of string doesn't really cut it.
