Sadly, I know there are a few of us around BB, so thought I'd start a thread hoping to share with other mums who have lost their own.
When DD was 3 weeks old my mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Six months later she was gone. My dad died when I was 13 so it's just my brother and I.
Now that I'm pregnant again I'm really struggling not having my mum around. I miss our Friday night dinners. I miss being able to call her when having a bad day. I wish I could call her to come over when I need help or just go for a walk with me so I can get out of the house. I hate going out shopping and seeing expecting mums and mums with toddlers shopping with their own mums. I'm sad and angry that DD doesn't recognise her face. I'm sad and angry that this baby will never know her at all.
I know it took years for me to cope with the void left by Dad. His absence was felt most keenly at my wedding and graduation ceremonies, and also when DD was born. I ache that DH never got to meet him. But the void left by Mum.....I don't see how I can ever cope with that. DD amazes me almost every day. There is no time to pass between significant events to allow any healing.
