Gah! thats what i forgot to do today! I was gonna post off my application form for ambulance cover. Yeah its not too bad getting there from where we are assuming we have a car and we most certainly will by then even if we have to borrow my MILs car, but it'll be sorted in the next few weeks and i'm getting the Ambo cover as a last resort/emergency thing.
Yup its at the WCH. THere's nothing wrong with Flinders if you're having a normal birth or c-section but they didn't want to support my VBAC so unfortunately for my circumstances WCH is more suited to me this time

ROFL!!! I am good at guessing these things aren't I! (helps that there is not too much choice in SA and i knew you wouldn't go to the Lyell Mac!) Glad I remided u bout the ambulance cover. FYI, SA ambulance don't accept HCC as concession, stupid i know considering it is for Health Care!!!if only beaurocrats looked at the more sensible states, just look at the southern expressway, i mean it is embarrassing!!!
anyway, enough of a rant from me.

Morning all... Well i posted a thread bout my 80% chance of having a girl.... wanted to see how many people thought it was a good enough sign to start buying pink... Well most said no and to wait...I was all set to go this morning and get some PINK stuff but now i'm feeling..well kinda down and think maybe the possibility of it being wrong is still to high????
Any thoughts???

I'm sorry Jess, but I think you should wait too. i know of one mum (actually a few) that were told they were definately having a boy..... she gave birth to a girl. I personally don't trust the U/S. I didn't want to know with brendan but I felt right from the beginning he was going to be a boy. How do you feel?
I always bought greens and yellows and when Brendan was born got given all the blue stuff! If you are going to go shopping for girlie things, hang on to the receipt so that if the U/S are wrong and you have a boy you won't be left with pink things!
I'm sorry if you feel down, but the MOST important thing is that the baby is born healthy. *fingers crossed* for a girl!

Jess i had a 95% chance of a girl, then i had another ultrasound at 36 weeks & she was still a girl.
I was so happy as i had only brought pink & girly stuff.
My friend had an 80% chance of a girl & she had a little girl.
Guess it depends on how confident you feel with the ultrasound, I wouldn't be able to help my self & would buy at least one cute little girly outfit.

Before i had my U/S i was hoping for a girl so i bought a few pink things... they're gonna make good presents for my SIL who is having her 3rd girl after trying for a boy hahaha.
If you don't think you can contain yourself then maybe you could get one or two things but then again don't let it get you too worked up either just in case its still a boy.
There was no umming and ahhing with our boys, it was pretty obvious.
Ali - Yeah i agree, you know in Queensland everyone has ambulance cover because they pay for it along with their electricity bill! I think thats a great idea!
I sent DH out today without my application to post again... might have to walk around the corner and post it a bit later on.

I've always had Ambo cover, it's just not worth getting a huge bill. One guy I knew Broke his leg at motorcross and the track was only about 6 kms from the hospital and it cost him over $600 for that short trip!! It's just not worth it.
I should have asked if WA do pension discounts.... LOL.... bit late now!

Hello Everyone, thought it was about time I joined this thread. I'm a first time mummy to Madeline, who is now just over 3 months and growing so fast! Cant believe how far she has come.
Jade - Congrats on baby boy number 3! Not long to go now.
Jess - Are you hoping for a girl? They told me I was having a girl, but everywhere I went people kept commenting on my shape saying ohhh thats a boy in there. Whatever lol. I dont know how you can tell from the shape of a womans belly?!
We dont have ambo cover, is that an extra under private health insurance? We had Maddie in a public hospital, but getting private health is high on our list of things to do in 2008 in time for the next bubba.

Hayley, Get in contact with WA ambulance service. In SA it is sometimes covered by PHI but u can get it seperately. no concession family was $130 per year, and for 1 ambulance trip it is $800! ours has paid for itself 6 times over! definitely get it. It is not good for a family to get a bill like that! and with kids u r bound to use it.
I have ambo cover i think under HBF essentials. But DP would be the kind to jump in the car and be his own ambo driver and hope to gawd the police understand if pulled over and escort. HAHA. But of course if i told him id feel safer actually going in a ambo or him just driving normally he would. Or he would try haha.
Im getting excited about labour. Im 6 months preg, 3 months to go...not too long now. i just cant wait for the day when i say 'OMG my waters have broken!" haha.
Jess we got told ours is a girl, no % to it, but DP and i are still reluctant to get girl stuff coz we dont want it to turn out to be a boy. Although we both have paused on the part of the scan where she told us it was a girl, and for sure it is a girl. But still! I think i needa just jump out there and buy something, then DP will start haha.

meg, hun only about 15% of labours start with waters breaking. both of mine were artificially ruptured just before delivery. the sac makes it easier to push too. I really hope your labour is not so fast that u don't make it to the hospy. We only used our ambo cover after Em was born coz she was so sick and ended up in hospy for 10 days and i had no access to the car when we needed to take her in to the hospy.
Hehe yea i know not all start with them breaking, but u get my gist. We only worry coz our hossy is a good half or so hour drive from our house, so in peak hour we are most likely to use ambo, maybe, but only coz it would make 30 mins into 90 mins depending. Peak hour here in perth is soo bad, not that i can really compare it coz i dont know what the other cities' peak hour is like but DP says its worse than any other city.

I just had a thought, because Flinders is techically closer, if i called and Ambulance to get to the hospital when i'm in labour thats where they're gonna take me... not that it REALLY matters its just i'm at the WCH now and for my circumstances i like them better, Flinders might just bully me into another c-section, then again if i calll them its prolly gonna be coz its an emergency so a c-section is probably warranted anyway. Also if i'm having such a fast labour i'd be more inclined to go for a c-section i think because i would imagine the risk of uterine rupture would be increased if everything's all extra ferocious around there iykwim. So much to consider and think about regarding all of this...
Luckily Adelaide peak hour isn't so bad, the traffic still moves, i've been in Brisbane peak traffic though... a 10 minute drive took about an hour, that was pretty nasty. Yeah Perth sounds pretty bad too.
Jess - Im the opposite, I say spend away!!!! LOL. We got told that our DD was a girl 75% and I went through the same thing as you. So I booked another scan and they said they are pretty sure its a girl but not definate. I could not resist though! It was so exciting knowing I would have my little princess! We bought her whole wardrobe and painted her room pink! (This poor child is destined to be very girly....LOL). Maybe just keep the tags on all the clothes you buy, so you can take them back if you need to. Or worst case scenario, you could sell them or put them on Ebay. Then there is the thought, are you planning anymore babies in the future? Maybe you would get a girl then. LOL. Just my opinions, but I was waaaaaaaaay to impatient to wait for bubs to be born to go shopping!
They will never tell you 100% sure the sex anyway, just in case they are wrong. And 80% sounds pretty good to me.

The place i went to said they wouldnt tell us the sex unless they are 100% sure. The place also has a very good reputation for never being wrong. I think I might go shopping!!

My waters had to be broken as my labour had been going on on and off for 3 days and the midwife broke them to speed labour up. Well it worked! Waters broken at 9.15am and Ellie born at 2.40pm.
