Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. At the moment I am finding things a little overwhelming.. especially since our appointment is not until 22 Feb.

But in saying that a lot of what I have read here has been helping more than you will ever know

Hi everyone, this is my first post on BB; having just joined today. I guess my story is similar to many of you out there. DH and I have been TTC for 2 years now. After 2 failed AIH attempts and 3 standard fresh IVF attempts in 2007, we're hoping for a successful 2008. We had been using the services of City Fertility in Brisbane, but are tossing up whether or not to make an appointment with QFG to a 2nd opinion. In lamens terms, the 3 IVF attempts were successful from the point of view of # of eggs, fertilization rates and embryos transferred. The problem was the little buggars wouldn't implant. I've tried everything from miracle herbs to acupunture to no avail. We were thinking that a second opinion and trying something different may just be the answer we need to go from a BFN to a BFP.

Have any of you out there used the services of QFG, and if so, which specialist did you see?

    Cheers
    J

anytime hun - BB has so many wonderful discussions happening, sometimes it's just hard to find the one that "fits" perfectly for you!

    good luck hun

I've just had a call from my FS that I've only got 3 follies that may be viable in this icsi cycle. So it's either cancel the whole thing, or go ahead with IUI. After calling my DH we've decided to go with it and try the IUI. So, tomorrow morning we're going to have it.

I really don't like the sound of it as it all sounds, well, just weird. But there you go. I just can't see it working I know I should be positive but it's really hard to stay positive when we've had so many disappointments.

I'm all triggered so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Tish - re the telling people. I totally agree with you, people who are trying naturally don't say "we had sex 3 times last night as we're trying to start a family!". Apart from my SIL, who apart from being totally self-absorbed is either as thick as 2 short planks or couldn't give a damn about how my DH and I are feeling. Anyway, getting back to the point, when we saw them last week they actually had a similar conversation at the dinner table! If you can believe it, SIL was actually saying that if her DH puts in a swimming pool, she'll agree to have another child as all they have to do is have sex, and hey presto, another child on the way.

    I'm ranting, sorry.

    My SIL is hideous!

    Wish me luck for tomorrow.

RH - good luck for the IUI - the way i see it is you've been given two options - cancellation - where you have absolutely no chance of getting anywhere - or IUI - where you are at least given some opportunity!

IUI isn't that bad - they "clean" the sample from your DH, and use a catheter to get the sample into your uterus. it doesn't guarantee conception, but it gives a higher chance of success than a cancelled cycle. i would always look at the positive aspect of it!! your FS wouldn't suggest it if he thought there was no chance at all of a "natural" conception.

    good luck for tomorrow hun!

Thanks BG. I know I should be be more positive. You are right, a cancelled cycle gives us no chance, whereas IUI could work for us. I do actually know someone who had a baby recently through IUI. Fingers and toes crossed!

Hi RH76 and welcome to belly belly.

I guess that the specialists wouldn't offer IUI if it never worked, so while it may not be the same chance as with the full ICSI cycle, it's still *some* chance. BG is absolutely right, look for hope where ever you can find it, and make sure you're progressing forwards... it's the philosophy I take with my OHSS and freeze all cycles - at least I'm getting embryos in the freezer, which is more than I'd have if we cancelled and tried again later - where I'm just as likely to hyperstimulate again, anyway. Good luck, I hope you get a very pleasant surprise at the end of it all.

Also welcome to Tish, minimay and Indie - so many new faces again!

    blood test results

Went in today for my day 6 blood test. The results for my oestrogen were a bit low. I think she said my levels were 205 where up to 500 is normal?? This is my first cycle so I don't really know what that means. THe nurse said some people just start slowly and that the oestrogen may increase over the next few days. Otherwise does it mean i don't have many eggs? I have a scan and another blood test on friday so i guess i'll find out then.

Hope everyone is ok. I think this whole thing is a bit harder than i first thought.

jbub - a lower estrogen level is better than a higher one - they can monitor you, increase your dosage if need be... when your estrogen gets too high, you run the risk of hyperstimulating. being your first cycle, chances are that your FS is being very cautious and checking how your body responds...

    hi All.
i found my first stim cycle to be ok - as it was unknown and exciting... the problem was I dont think I was prepared for it not to work. My first FET was very different - I was thinking it wouldn't work straight away which was not a good mindset and cried the day of transfer... which was when I was meant to be positive.... after it doesn't work emotions can go haywire. I think it best going into the first cycle to be positive but to know this can be a hard process and we are talking about 20 and 30% odds of success etc....now that first FET didn't work I am just petrified none of them are. For me - I just wish I could have an embryo put back straight away... its the waiting for the next ovulation that kills me..... but that is just me....
Good luck and remember heaps of people fall pregnant on their first go too.......
    ah its so hard.....

    Hi there !

    Welcome tish, wannabeamum and indie

RH76, i had a chuckle reading about your SIL.... i have an interesting one to say the least! I'm sure she is itching to know why myself and DH have not yet had children, but she is one of those that knows everything about everything, and she pretty much steamrolls anyone else's opinions. I know that she has used fert. drugs for a couple of her pg's, so i just don't need her lecturing me about what i should be doing!! Really hopefull for you that you have success with your IUI procedure - i have appt with FS on mon, and will be discussing IUI, so wishing you all the best! I'll prob have some q's for you

jbub, hope your oestrogen levels behave themselves, goodluck for your BT on friday

Well i'm all excited, as i pack today, and after finishes work, off we drive to sydney.... yaayyy.... hope the bed at the hotel is a good one, seeing as i'm nearing O ... had better pack the sign! Very sorry if tmi, i'd better go now.

Wishing all a happy day, and great weekend! tp x

PS - i love using all the emoticons... and now we have a new , i have access to them ALL, so very excited about that xx

hi rh76, hope all went well today!

ahh family - all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, huh! it's good to hear that other people have the same quandries about discussing this with people... some members of our family get very, well, involved LOL so this feels more comfortable. plus it will be a nice big surprise for everyone!

i wonder if i'll be able to claim for a new pool after all of this???

    Hi all

Thank you Lionfish for your response. Goodluck with your IVF, hope all goes for round 2.

I am starting my first round of IVF around Feb 11th and hoping all goes well. I am doing another round of clomid (4th round) and hoping that it works this time and I don't have to go down the road of IVF. Must admit I am already overwhelmed by IVF by filling out the forms and what you have to think about!!!.

Even though I have PCOS, I ovulate on my own, so they have classed me as unexplained infertility (which is very frustrating) and my hubby is all ok as well.

But with 2 years of trying!!! you have to go the next step

I was just wondering if there is any hints or suggestions, like I heard somebody say that after they insert the embie it is better to stay on the bed as long as possible.....

RH76 I wish you all the best for today, stay positive and I will have my fingers crossed for you.

and for all you others, I wish you all the luck and baby dust heading your way.....

    xxx Sue xxx

    Hi everyone
Just thought i might join in as i start IUI again next week. Was hopin for a BFP over the last few monthes while not in FT but i think i was dreamin.
Im feelin very frustrated at the mo, the hospital have not passed on the info from when i had my ectopic and i know they removed something else ( as well as tube) while they were there, but no one can tell me what, i also think next time i see my FS i have to write a list i realised i havent actual been told why i cant concieve 1 year on, he mentioned cystic ovaries in passing but i didnt click till i got home, does anyone else feel like the one and only goal of the FS is to get you pregnant and everything else is irrelevant? I even asked if there was actually a pregnancy with the ectopic and he said do you really need to know the answer to that! Well yes actually id like to know he went on to tell me that there is no way to know for sure. Any hoo im waffling. Lets hope 2008 is a wonderful BFP year
RH76 i think i had only 3 follies when i fell preg on IUI so keep your hopes up!!
