Regarding the endometriosis:
Angel baby's facts were correct.
I have also always had painful periods and just thought that was normal. It wasn't until we TTC for a year then saw FS that it was discovered through lap surgery. My FS suspected I had endo because of painful periods, sometimes sharp pains during intercourse and painful bowel movement with my periods. The lap showed that I have severe endo. I actually had to have a second surgery to remove the endo because my gynae needed a bowel specialist's help.
It is now 4 months since my surgery and am in the 2ww after my first ivf cycle. Because of the severity of my endo it is important to get knocked up asap hence the ivf. Actually I have already had a 4cm endometrioma grow back on my right ovary so i am praying that i am pregnant now so it won't be an issue. I really want to avoid surgery again so soon.
If you do need a laparoscopy it isn't too bad. My first op I wasn't too sore after. I had a week off work but i was out shopping and lunching with friends within a few days (don't tell work). The second one I had 2 weeks off and needed it but i did have a LOT of endo removed.
My case is an extreme case. Usually when endo is discovered it is just removed and if it is mild or medium, people can just try and get pregnant naturally for 6 - 12 months before having to go down the ART path.
