I have been reading through all your threads and i'm happy to find out that there still can be positives to bleeding in pregnancy. I would like to share my story too...

I've been trying for two years to fall pregnant, at the start had a very early chemical pregnancy and have nothing since so hence my fearfullness of bleeding during pregnancy.

Now I started bleeding when AF was due, so didn't think anything of it. It stopped about two days later, still didn't think anything of it. Started bleeding again 3 days later, for some reason decided to do a hpt (no symptoms or anything) and got a bfp to my surprise. I'm now about 6 and a half weeks, still bleeding (dark brown, occassionly some red streaks and very small bits/clots, sorry tmi), still getting bfps and still don't really have any symptoms. I have an appointment with my ob in 1 and half weeks...i'm hoping that everthing will be alright, however given my past experiences am not too positive.

Will let you know how I go, and good luck to others who are experiencing similar problems.

I had sex this afternoon and when I went to the toilet after, there was some pale pink on the toilet paper. I know that this is completely normal because of increased blood flow in the vagina etc

However.. about half an hour later I went and checked again, and the bleeding had become red and with a few small clots.

I immediately freaked out of course. I rang the midwives at the labour ward after hours number, and she said to just lie down and rest and if I get bad cramping or it gets heavy to phone back.

I laid down and slept for about 2 hours, and when I woke up there was still a bit dripping into the toilet, but when I wiped it was only kinda pale again, like it was watered down. And there's no extra on the pad, so it's not like it's flowing.


I know that almost half of all women experience bleeding during early pregnancy and it's all fine, but still - I'm not feeling great about it all.


Did anyone else have similar? I was fine with the pale pink on the toilet paper, but once I saw the clots and heavier blood I freaked.

This forum is brilliant as i have not been able to find much on anything else so thanks to who ever set it up.

Here is my story, would really appreciate some input.

Ovulated between 24th and 29th march, had sex on the 24th and 26th or 27th (withdrawel, yes i know), have been having lots and lots of symptoms since. The main one being my boobs have gone up a whole cupsize! Lots of veins under my arms which i think are veery noticeable, lots of twinges down there, been alot hotter, broke out in spots on back and face, this is all very typical of me before my af however this all happened like 2 weekish before af was due!

have done 3 pregnancy tests, one way before af, and the other day before af was due, both negative.

day before period had some creamy beige cm (sorry) just a spot in my knickers and that was it, then on day of my period i had light brown cm in the morning and that was it, nothing in the evening, i am never late for my period ever. Then today i had the brown stuff again this morning and then later on started getting red browny blood, it is still coming however I have no cramping what soever just a hot feeling down there.

I always always have cramps on the day of my period. I still feel not right and as i said i have never been late as far as i can remember.

Anyone had a similar experience or can give advice? I know it may just be a period but its all to odd!

Hi Ladies, I have been trying to conceive through IVF for over a year. Finally this monday I found out I was pregnant. However, on Thursday night I got bleeding - red blood - and some more brown blood the next morning. I saw my FS first thing Friday morning and the good news is I'm pregnant with twins which look advanced but I had a blood vessel burst and there's a large blood clot in the uterus. So I've been told complete bed rest for a week and to come back in for a scan in a week's time.

I am worried out of my head. The bleeding has slowed down but this morning I got some brown clotting. I am 5 weeks pregnant. Has anyone else had this happen and everything worked out okay?

Ive just gotten back from the hospital after a few hours of heaving bright red bleeding, the doctor at the hospital told me I have had aThreatened Miscarriage, and that there was nothing she could do for me. Ive been given orders for strict bedrest and panadol for the horrid cramping.

Am I going to lose my baby? I am only 11w 5d, but I am very attached.

It's been a while since someone posted on this forum, but wanted to share my story and see if anyone has any advise.

Last Wednesday I discovered I was pregnant. On Friday morning I went to the toilet, wiped and noticed I had bright red blood (only enough for one swiped) on the tissue with a tiny clot. That night I went to A&E and they did some tests and I'm heading back on Monday for more tests to see if my HCG levels have risen. Ahhh, the stress! Since Friday I haven't bled, however I have had a dull ache below and this morning (Sunday) I had a few cramps (my period would have been due today). What complicates the matter is that I had a lump removed from my bladder two weeks earlier which has taken me a while to get over (it forunatley was begnine.) I wonder whether this is causing a few issues and I'm having trouble distinguishing between bladder and pelvic pain. Still doesn't explain why I had bright red blood on Friday.

My breasts are no longer sore which makes me think I have miscarriaged - but I haven't bled since Friday. Anyone had similar symptons?

UPDATE (12/07/2010) - I went back to the hospital today for my more tests and my results were:

12DP0 - HCG 156 / Progesterone 119
15DP0 - HCG 667

Quite an increase and high numbers for so early in the pregnancy! We are back to hospital on Friday for a scan so fingers crossed, but I think it is looking positive and now I'm starting to think with those figures I am having twins! My dad was a twin, so who knows!!

UPDATE (16/07/2010) - I had a scan today. I'm 4 weeks, 4 days and the nurse said that development was excellent. There is hope with bleeding : )

I am 12 weeks and three days pregnant and yesterday evening i had some bleeding! It was such a shock, it wasn't very much but it was a bit more than 'spottiong' and blood is blood, you know!? so I was pretty shocked! I called that 1800 number for health advice and they asked me a few questions and said I need to go see a doctor within the next 4 hours. No other options but to go to the emergency department unfortunately! VERY long wait, and I was scared that I was losing my baby because I have never experienced any bleeding before and I didn't know how common it was either (until I read about it on here tonight!) But i stayed calm under the circumstances.... So, LONG wait in crowded public hospital with my partner, they took blood to measure hormone levels, and eventually did an internal examination. The bleeding had stopped by then and she told me she couldn't see any reason for the bleed (cervix closed and as it should be). Then I had an ultrasound and I could have kissed that gynecologist because she was the ONLY person in the whole hospital that night who was friendly and gave me a smile! Then when we saw the baby on the screen moving around with a normal heartbeat, THE RELIEF of that was like when you are busting for a wee and then you go (but times that relief by a hundred!)...

They couldn't give me a reason for the bleed. They said its not uncommon for women to get polyps or 'ectopies' on the cervix during pregnancy because of the hormones and sometimes they can bleed. So I guess i will never know, I just hope it doesn't happen again! They said if it does happen, if its just a little bit, not to worry, but of its like a period or more that I should come in.

Everyones got different circumstances though so I'd say everyone should get medical advice about their bleeding. 1800 022 222 is the 'health direct' number and thats 24 hours and I keep that number handy for any health advice, they are pretty good.

GOOD LUCK and I think every pregnant woman should know that 30% of women have bleeding during pregnancy and it does not ALWAYS mean miscarriage.. I would have loved to have known that last night.

ok well i am around 8 weeks pregnant ! i have had many(16) pryor misscarrages and 3 beautiful babys all and all this is my 20th pregnancy and scared to death! i have been bleeding really heavy for a little over a week now blood clots and all went to er when it first started and they put me on bed rest til i could get into a obgyn baby was good had a heart beat of 165 and was fluttering around just fine ! i've never blead this long and not lost the baby! he has put me on a supository and told me that the only reason i havent lost the baby was due to that!! ( very grose by the way) cause after i put it in the blood on my hands and cant get up to wash them thank god for baby wipes and hand sanitizer LOL (sry if tmi) ive never been through this with a pregnancy ! the pain can be excruciating ! was in the shower the other night and didnt think i was going to make it out cause i could bearly stand up! had to get my husband to help me out of the shower! kinda feel bad cause my mother n laws been taken care of my other 3 during the week so i can rest as much as possable but how can u rest when you know someone else is doing ur job cause u cant? dont know how to take all this!! my 1st baby was born normal gestation and very healthy my 2nd was born at 27 weeks and weighed 3lbs 1 oz my 3rd was born 8weeks eairly and weighed 5 lbs 4ounces my son is now healthy and has no complications from being so premature but its a day i will never forget at all !! most scariest day of my life!! oh for thouse who are wondering my oldest weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces 20 in long my youngest was 18 in and my son was 15 in if there is anyone who has been through this too HELP!!! the last obgyn i had told me that the misscarrages was due to a misshaped uturus? (i guess thats how its spelled) which was due to being repetedly raped when i was a kid ! so alot of the complcations is due to that! besides other health issues i have! i dont know what to do im in a unknown land and all they tell me is wait! the dr did all kinds of tests but wont get any results til i go back monday!thank you all and god bless!

This is my first post here and I am so happy to find this thread. It has given me some hope. Here is my story. DH & I experienced our 1st m/c in December 2010. It was a missed m/c & I actually didn't start bleeding until 2 weeks after I had lost the bean. I started bleeding on Dec. 11th, started as spotting and then proceeded to get heavy, with clots and cramps. I knew it was over. This lasted for weeks. I nearly had to have a D&C, but luckily when the doctor was checking me he saw "the fetus" and removed it. That was Dec. 29th.

Now, DH & I were not TTC, we had intended to take a break until February or March and start trying then. I had an u/s scheduled for Jan. 27th to make sure everything was okay from the previous m/c, so I decided that I would test to check. I had a good first response test. Well, sure enough I had a faint line, faint but it was there. I went to the u/s, came home and went to bed. The next morning I was going to test again for a darker line, but I had started spotting. That led me to believe that my period was coming and that the faint line was actually just left over HCg from my previous m/c.

I bled for 3 days, 2 days medium & 1 light. No clots, no cramps. Then I continued on with charting. I found a cheapie test and decided to take it (this was 9 days after the bleeding) and it was positive. I didn't know what to think. So I went and bought a first response test and the second line was SUPER dark!! I have been spotting on and off for 2 days, and it is only brownish colored and only when I wipe.

I do not know what to think. I am not cramping and I still feel pregnant, sore boobs and all! I am not cramping or bleeding any heavier, just the brownish color on the toilet paper when I wipe and it is not everytime. I just don't know why I would bleed for 3 days at the time when my period was to be due.

Hi ladies,

God I hope someone can help me out! I am 9 weeks pg and have heard the heartbeat of bub at week 6 which was good but randomly tonight I went to the bathroom and discovered on wiping pink bleeding. I know this is common but this isn'i the only concern it feels like my period is coming with slight cramping.

I smelt it and has an iron smell. I had sex with hubby on Sunday and exercised this afternoon, could this be the reason? Please help. I just want to bawl and not sure if I should had to the emergency room.

Curlygirly, hope the bleeding has stopped. I had a bleed at 12 weeks and again at 14 weeks with our twins and they're here now healthy and happy. Lots of people bleed during pregnancy for whatever reason and continue on to have healthy babies. My bleed was caused by a clot but it had disappeared by 18 weeks. I was told to rest and to do no lifting at all. If the bleeding hasn't stopped, I'd go and get checked out. It will put your mind at ease. Sending you hugs

as you can see I'm 13 weeks, although at my scan I was measuring ahead which would put me at 14 weeks. I have felt a bit funny this afternoon, nothing I can really put my finger on but just not quite right.

Anyway was sitting on the couch doing some folding and I sort felt a bubble bursting sensation between my legs (sorry if its TMI) we have a visitor over so I didn't say anything, thought it felt weird and I was hoping it wasn't my Pelvic Floor really letting me down.

Put my boys to bed went to the toilet and there was about a tablespoon of bright red blood in my knickers (no clots) it has been nearly 2 hours now and I haven't had anymore bleeding.

I'm just so nervous, my first pregnancy was a missed miscarriage, and I had a bleed in my next pregnancy but that was at 8 weeks I have had a scan which showed bubs was going along well. I live in the country and if I go to the clinic tomorrow I know I will just see any old Dr who won't specialise in OB so wonder if there is anypoint or if I just wait til Monday.

I hate this feeling, we have only just made the big announcement too.

Edit, went to the toilet after writing this post, and there was more bloody. It is going to be a long night. Guess threre isn't much I can do but hope that it has stopped by the morning,. I hate this feeling

Just thought I would edit this for anyone reading through. I had an ultrasound and they could see that the bleeding had come from the placenta. I have a low lying placenta, not covering the cervix but close to it which was more than likely reason for the bleed. I'm not 21 weeks and have had no further bleeding and am just hoping that the placenta will move up so that I can avoid a c section.

Final edit, had a scan at 28 weeks, placenta has moved up and I'm right for a natural delivery. And I have had no further bleeding throughout this pregnancy.

Hi all, i'm new to the forum and i want to firslty say this has been a good read.

My story is this, i was 12 weeks pg in Dec 2010 when i m/c'd. Am currently pg again at 6weeks 4 days, has u/s last week and all good so far and have heard bub's heartbeat.

I have been bleeding slightly for the last three days, on and off, not much but enough to scare me!!! Getting a little worried and don't have an appointment with OB until July. GP said not to worry but it hasn't stopped so far.

Hey ladies, thanks to all of you for the stories and sustaining one another. You have all been companions to me today. I know I am pregnant from the at home test and from all the early sypmtoms I've had. I have been feeling "normal" until today when I woke up with light cramping and then proceeded to start bleeding. I am not sure what bright red means, but it is more like the color of red wine. It is not super heavy, but much heavier than spotting. I have used 2 pads today and it had come out while urinating in some glob-esque dripping, nothing big though, just gooey (sorry to be graphic, but not really, since the graphicness is what had helped me reading these!!) Anyway, I haven't been to the doctor yet, I think I am 4 or 5 weeks in. I am just going to wait and see what happens as long as the cramping stays so weak, and then I will get the ultrasound in a couple weeks and see if the baby is still there!! This was an unplanned pregnancy but I want it and my boyfriend has come around to wanting it too even though he is much younger than me. Oh man this waiting is torture!!! I will just keep resting until the bleeding stops so as to not shake things up too much. All my money is in the remodeling of my business right now and I have no cash nor health insurance, so I want to go to the doctor as little as possible this early in the pregnancy. I also live in Mexico and am a little sketchy about the healthcare here... I will update!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

I can't believe that his thread is here! Thank you to whoever stared it because I need it!

This is a long post - sorry, but I need to get it of my chest & hope for a little support!

I'm 6 weeks 4 days pregnant with my third little one. On Saturday night, before bed I found some brown spotting on my knickers. I was a little surprised as I haven't had this in my other two pregnancies. But I knew this was common so didn't worry too much(strange for me!) & got some sleep. In the morning there wasn't much more but I thought I'd get onto my friend, Google, & see what was out there. Most info said not to worry but check with your Doctor. SO I thought I may as well call the maternity ward at the hospital to speak to a midwife & got a gynocology resident who told me to get to emergency right away to be assessed. I was kind of shocked & asked 'no matter how much?' & he basically told me to go.

I rushed my little girls to get dressed(poor things had a birthday party to go to) & dropped them off at my Mums on the way to Emergency. Thank God it wasn't too busy. When Igot to the triage nurse & told her what was going on she told me all they could do was do a blood test to check my hcg levels & then I'll have to go in the next day for another. If they were going up the pregnancy would be 'viable' if not, it was a miscarriage. I really wanted to lean through that little window & tell her that the term 'viable' when talking about a pregnancy was offensive. But I didn't, I just said thank you when she handed me a brochure called, 'bleeding in early pregnancy' & sat down waiting to be called. What a stupid thing to give a pregnant bleeding woman. The first thing on the leaflet - 'one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage. If you are having a miscarriage there is no emergency treatment that can help stop this'. Thanks. I really needed that while sitting alone waiting for god knows how long.

Thankfully the wait wsn't too long & I was lucky enough to get a really lovely nurse that showed some sensitivity to my concerns. SHe led me to a room, not a curtained off bit, & asked me what was going on. She assured me that bleeding in pregnancy was more common than not & not to worry just yet. After more questions & assessment she gave me a blood test & I had to wait for a doctor who may or may not give me an ultrasound. I did a urine test & handed over my pad for her to check out.

After what seemed like forever the doctor walked in & basically went to work as if I had told him I had a sore finger. He checked my belly & then asked me about any pain or cramping & basically told me I could have an ectopic pregnacy.He didn't want to give me an ultrasound as he wasn't trained in this area & as the baby was so small he may not pick it up. Fair enough. He told me he'd book me into the Early Pregnancy clinic for he next day for one. He came back with an appointment for Friday. Gee, thanks.

After going home & to the party all I could do was rest & wait. I had more bleeding which led to me crying all day & getting no sleep that night. As soon as I got up I rang the Pregancy Clinic & got an appointment for 9.30am. When the receptionst asked me if I could make it in by then I told her I'd get there. So, with no time to shower, brush my teeth or have breakfast I gt the girls to put their dressing gowns on & headed to the hospital with no time to spare.

At my appointment the doctor I saw kept fussing on about not finding a referral for me so I explained the whole saga from the day before. She told me she'd do an informal ultrasoud, if she saw nothing shd do an internal scan & if there was nothing there I'd have to have a formal scan with radiology as it may be an ectopic pregnancy because my hcg levels were high. So, while trying to get my litle girls to stay behind the curtain, she did the external scan. Nothing. Then I had to have the internal scan. She was rough as guts & still nothing. At this stage I started to get a bit upset but held it together in front of my girls. The doctor went about organising a formal ultrasound & I had to wait near the reception until radiology called me in. So I called my Dad to pick up the girls, rang my husband to tell him what was goig on & had to sit andwait facing 6 rows of chairs filled with pregnant women while I waited & tried to keep it together. Before the doctor let me go she said, 'I could be worng'. I told her I sure as friggin hope so. So I sat there either crying, or staring & generally looking like a miserable creature alone until my husband arrived. After a while an older nurse came up & sat down in front of me & said, 'I want you to go & have lunch then go straight to radiology & eyeball them, tell them you have been waiting here for 3 hours & they need to do he scan as soon as possible. I promised her I'd eat something & went.

So, bypassing lunch I went straight there & spoke to them, trying not to cry as they showed no sympathy at all. I got my red slip, followed the red line & waited. My husband was being so good. He told me not to worry. He knew they were hollow words because we've been together for 14 years - he knew there was no chance of me NOT worrying!

I finally got in with the sonographer & a student. Thank God they couldn't have been nicer. He even had his supervisor sit in. So I was to have another pelvic ultrasoud & an internal one too. They checked my kidney's, my ovaries, found my old friend the fibroid(I knew I had this from my last pregnancy) & then I saw a tiny little void, the sonographer picked it up to & thought it may be the gestational sack but wasn't sure. It did't help that he wasn't viewing it with the pregnancy program. After fixing that up it was clear it was the little sack! Then as they were looking for a heartbeat the supervisor walkied into the room & from 10 paces away she said, 'ah look at that little live baby with it's heart beating away!' I couldn't believe it. I could see the littleheart flickering & after they fiddled around with the machine a little you could clearly see that little heart beating away - at 105bpm- & it was in the right spot. What a relief! Now I was crying happy tears! I then had to sitthrough the internal that was thankfully a lot gentler than the one I had earlier. They took their findings off to their doctor & came back to tell me the baby was fine & that itwas confirmed I was 6 weeks & 3 days in. They showed me all t photos thy took & sent me back t the clinic with some for myself. SO relieved, I headed back to the clinic to speak with the doctor.

She came out to th waiting room & asked me if they told me anything. Clutcing my photosI told herthey told me everything was fine. 'Did they find a heartbeat?', 'Yes'. Good she says, because she couldn't ee aything in the pictures & report hey sent hr. I shoowed her wthe ones they gave me & have since cncluded that this doctor is BLIND because I have no idea about his stuff but could clearly see thegestational sc in all the images they took. Especialy in the picture labellled - gestational sack, uterus & fibroid!

I asked her about the bleeding & she just shrugged, 'sometimes it happens'.

We are not completely out of the woods yet, I have to book in for another scan at 8 weeks & hopefully the little speck(baby's new nickname given to it by the sonographer!) will be happily growing away in there. I'm still bleeding(ad to top it all off I musthave caught a tummy bug from the hospital because I spent 24 hours rshing to the toilet! Joy!), it seems to almost stop & then starts again. I hope it stops soon because even though I saw my baby alive & well just the other day I still can't help worrying.

Good luck to everyone & thanks for letting me get this off my chest - I don't have anyone else to really vent to because I'm not ready to tell anyone about this pregnancy yet.

Massive hugs to you all. Littlelove, what a horrific process you have been through. I really feel for you. Bleeding in pregnancy is something that can not be explained and the whole "sometimes it happens" just doesn't cut it. If it helps, I bled for almost half of my pregnancy with DD, often clotty dark heavy bleeds and she's 13 months and running around like the gorgeous little girl I had hoped for. Best wishes.
