I'm sure I've posted this one before...but I can't find it. Its pumpkin polenta fingers...I'll have a look for it because I can't remember the recipe. and I'll get the book back off Ambah in a few weeks...
Here's another one with a few fritatta and mash type recipes.
Here is one for 6 month and older babies.
1/2 cup of cooked pumpkin
1/2 cup of baked beans
1T of grated cheese.
Blend to consistency that baby likes. It is really yummy!
Chicken mince cooked with a little milk and then creamed corn added to it.
Another is cottage cheese, avocado and potato blended together.
1 1/2 tablespoons gelatin
1 1/4 cups of Unsweetened Apple Juice
1 1/2 cups of Heinz Baby Pear Juice
1/2 cup of pureed apricot
Place the apple juice and pear juice into a microwave safe container, and heat for around 4 minutes (until quite hot). Alternatively, heat on the stove top. Add gelatin, and stir until completely dissolved. Add pureed apricot and stir well (sometimes I give it a quick blast with the bamix).
Pour into suitable containers and refridgerate until set (you can then store them in the cupboard).
I found this makes enough for 6 portions, as I re-cycle the little Heinz/Golden Circle Custard Jars.
As an alternative, you could use other pureed fruits or fruit juices (e.g. orange juice, apple juice & crushed pineapple).
Good question Sarah....to be honest I don't know!! I would just say to give it to your baby whenever you know they are fine with the ingredients so you know there isn't going to be any kind of allergic reaction. But, having said that, Heinz makes a similar fruit gel and it's suitable for all ages, from 4 months.
Just thought I would post some recipes in here as we were given a book full of baby and toddler recipes when Jonah was born. Seeing as I won't be able to use them for ages I thought I would share them with you all and see how you go with them.
From 6 months:
Ground Rice Cereal
Prep time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 5 mins
Makes 6 serves
1/4 cup short grain polished rice
1/2 cup water
Grind the rice to a smooth powder in a spice grinder or use a mortar and pestle.
Put in a small saucepan and stir in the water. Stir over low heat for 2-3 mins, or until the mixture becomes thick and creamy.
Grins the rolled oats to a fine powder in a spice grinder or a small food processor.
Put the oats in a small saucepan and gradually whisk in the milk and 1/4 cup water until well combined. Slowly bring to the boil and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, or until the mixture thickens. Remove from the heat.
90g lean round or chuck steak or veal steak
1 new potato
1 small carrot
1 baby onion
1/2 garlic clove, crushed
small piece of bay leaf
sprig of parsley
Put the steak, potato, carrot and onion in a small saucepan. Add the garlic, the piece of bay leaf and parsley sprig, then cover with the water. Cover, bring to the boil, the simmer gently until the meat is tender. Add more water as needed.
Discard the baby leaf and parsley. Blend the ingredients with a little of the cooking liquid.
1/2 red cooking apple, peeled and cored
2 boneless, skinless chicken tenderloins
Thinly slice the apple and cut the chicken into small cubes. Place the chicken tenderloin pieces in a steamer and arrange the apple slices over the chicken. Set over a saucepan of boiling water and steam for about 5 minutes, or until tender.
Puree or finely chop the chicken and apple, together with a little of the cooking liquid.
This recipe is really yummy! We all love it! The recipe actually says milk instead of cream, but the cream makes it even nicer!
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small brown onion, chopped coarsely
1 clove garlice, chopped coarsely
200g pumpkin, chopped coarsely
1 small sweet potato (250g), chopped coarsely
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/2 cup cream
1/2 cup water
1. Heat oil in small saucepan; cook onion and garlice, stirring, until onion softens. Add pumpkin, sweet potato and stock; cook, covered over medium heat for about 15 minutes or until pumpkin and sweet potato are tender.
2. Blend/process until smooth. Return to heat with cream and water; bring to the boil. Reduce heat, simmer, uncovered for about 5 minutes or until soup is heated through.
Zander loves this one. It's from Annabel Karmel's Feeding Your Baby & Toddler.
Cheesy Pasta Stars
9-12 months Makes 4 serves, suitable for freezing
125gm carrots, peeled & sliced
200ml boiling water
30gm butter
200gm tomatoes, skinned deseeded & chopped
45gm grated cheese
2tbsp pasta stars (I think it's called soup pasta)
Place carrots in a small pan, cover with boiling water & cook until tender (about 15-20mins).
Warm the butter in a seperate pan, add the tomatoes & saute until mushy.
Remove from heat & stir in the cheese until melted.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta in boiling water according to packet directions, then drain.
Mix together the cooked carrots with their cooking liquid & the cheesy tomato sauce.
Blend to a puree then combine with the pasta stars.
We gave this to Zander as an introduction to cheese, but left out the tomato as he hasn't tried it just yet. One time that I made it I didn't have any butter, so I substituted a little bit of formula & it was fine too.
This one's from Women's Weekly Babies & Toddlers Good Food
Fruit Jelly
6-9months
2 cups fruit juice
3 teaspoons powdered gelatine
Place 1/4 cup of the juice in a cup & sprinkle gelatine over the juice.
Stand cup in a small pan of simmering water, stir until gelatine is disolved.
Stir gelatine mixture into remaining juice in a medium bowl.
Refrigerate until firm.
I found that this will make about 4 of the baby food sized jars. It takes probably 2hrs to set in the little jars, not sure how long if you put it in a bowl.
2 cups plain wholemeal flour
2 tablespoons of cold butter
1/2 cup (approximately) water or milk
1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses (optional - it's very high in iron)
Rub the butter into the flour until it's the texture of fine breadcrumbs. Mix in enough water or milk to make a soft dough (also add in molasses at this stage if you want). Give it a bit of a knead. Roll into finger sized lengths and bake at 180 degrees until crisp, maybe around 40 minutes? Turn them halfway. Cool on a rack.
These are really yummy. I eat more of them than Kynan LOL! I prefer them without molasses and sometimes I sprinkle the ones I make for me with some chunky salt before baking.
Just a question, we're on to two meals a day, can I ask what people gave their bubs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She will almost be 6 months when i start on three meals. When did you take rice cereal out? Did you use the cereal with wheat for breakky (farex for 6months plus), Im kind of thinking some cereal and fruit breakky, lunch ? and dinner some of the recipes I've just seen above.
thanks xo
Indah has porridge, toast or weetbix for brekky, she will have a biscuit snack in between (also EBM) then for lunch she might have a sandwich with vegemite, or jam, or cheese... plus some fruit, then maybe a snack of a fruit, yogurt & also EBM, then dinner I make up veggies or whatever & offer her what we are having, sometimes if our meal isnt appropriate for her, I might give her a tin of food but will add extra veggies & freeze the rest for another night....
I made meat balls which she scoffed into....
This is one I used to make for Emily when she was about 7 or 8 months old
Pumpkin and Green Bean Couscous
1 satchet of instant couscous
Handful of green beans, trimmed
A few good sized chunks of pumpkin
(I'm not a precise cook LOL)
~ Boil couscous according to directions, seperate any lumps with a fork
~ Steam or microwave pumpkin and beans until soft
~ Slice beans into little pieces suitable for your baby
~ Mash pumpkin (can add some ebm or formula but it doesn't really need it)
~ Mix everything together. You probably won't need all of the cous cous, just keep adding it to the veges until you like the consistency.
This freezes really well too.
I used to make lots of different things for her, I'll have to think of some others and post later.
I give this to Charlie as a pudding or as a breakfast.........
Apple Oat Porridge
1 sachet of Quick Oats cereal (the plain variety)
1 cup milk
1 small tub pureed apple
1 handful sultanas
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
~ Make oatmeal up in microwave as per sachet instructions
~ Add apple, cinnamon and sultanas
~ Blend to a puree
~ Pour into ice-cube tray & freeze, to serve when required
Great recipes girls - keep them coming. My bub is highly allergic to dairy (and soy cheese - but copes with soy milk and soy yoghurt)...any recipes to accomodate that would be much appreciated Gonna go and make the biscuits now!!!!
