Bec - Glad i am not the only one then!!! Yep heaps of dribble here too. Colby is having bits and peices of sleep here and there. And feeding heaps today too. Yeah i know what you mean about savouring the newborn moments. Unfortunetely it must be just the way it goes with first babies!

    Hi all,

Sara do you remember briley dribbling at the same age?

Kim, how cazy that I switched from dairy to soy because dairy seems to be affecting Xavier and you have had to drop the soy?? Crazy babies, Lol maybe hayden wants dairy and you can't have it.

Rhiannon, I hope you find your post.

Well without wanting to tempt fate Xavier is sleeping right now. I think I'm getting better at catching these tired signals. I had to give him a dummy, but i'm pretty sure he spat it by now and went back to sleep. Now if I can only get him to ave an afternoon nap so he doesn't go completely mental when daddy gets home. Arsenic hour went from about 5-8.30 last night, when we put him to bed and let him sook himself to sleep. (only took 5 mins for him to fall asleep )

    Hi girls,

Bec - Yep i sure do remember that. I was going to mention it but forgot! I thought that Briley was going to be an early teething from all the dribble but she did'nt get her first tooth till she was about 9 months!! I think it must just be a normal thing for them at this age. Oh and after i posted the other day about Colby not sleep during the day...she slept most of the day and yesterday!!! She is'nt today though. We just got back from town so that could have disrupted everything.

Kim - Glad Haydens needles went well!

    Rhiannon - I HATE THAT!!!!!

Hello again everyone! I seem to have bouts of dropping out and then staggering back again.
Laura has also started making saliva bubbles and dribbling a bit. I think one of her mottoes is "I am baby, therefore I dribble." Thank goodness I have so many bibs.

How has everyone been? I'll have to find the old thread and reread it before I can do personals!
Not that you're interested () but I'll tell you what's been happening over here:
I saw the OB, Dr Yeoh, for the six week (actually seven week) checkup, and passed with a clean bill of health. An amusing moment came when I asked if I could resume playing netball and he said "Yes, but you won't be very good." It turned out he meant "no good" in the "lack of breath and fitness" way, not the "no netball skills" way.
Related to that, I resumed playing the next Monday, carting DH along to look after Laura. I am *very* unfit, and furthermore have forgotten how to run- a sprinting attempt ended with me landing full-length on the ground and skidding along. There's still some skin left on my forearms, but not much. Laura was very good, only wailing midway through the third quarter, which meant my team had only six players for the last bit. Not to worry. Everyone was thrilled to see her, and enquired whether I was going to train her as a Centre (my old position) or a Shooter or Attack, given her legs. I don't know- what do you all think?

Also, we have been to the MCHN for her eight week checkup and discovered the following:
    Weight: 6.2kg
    Length: 60 cm
    head circ: 41.5cm
General health excellent. Refusal to turn head to left side worrying (for her mother, anyway.) I'm now supposed to turn her head to the left all the time, and put her to sleep facing left, and stay on her left side. This has resulted in a baby who turns her head back to the right when I let go, and ends up sleeping facing right, and won't look at me when I'm on her left. Any ideas?

Oh, meant to tell you- I've made it back to the gym four times! Once, my mum looked after Laura- the other three times DH has had her, and I've had the mobile in my gym pants pocket in case of trouble. He's only called me to come home once (Laura was howling in the background) and by the time I'd sprinted home (well, walked quickly), Laura was asleep! The mobile adds an unsightly bulge to my pants, but there are so many unsightly bulges already another one is hardly noticable.

Laura's vaccinations are going to happen on 19th Oct- a bit late, given she's two months today, but better late than never. I'm not looking forward to them. Poor little girlie.

    Hey Girls!
Well I didn't get my post back, stupid FIL's laptop. Gives me the heebee geebees sometimes. At home now, so I can start again. Hold on, can't remember now.

Well, the circumcision went well. The plastibell stays on for 3-7 days and falls off on its own (the bell, not his penis - the way the dr described it). We had to go and get some baby panadol, that seemed to soothe him. He wasn't in pain, but maybe just uncomfortable. Arsenic hour seems to be coming back at me. It went away for a while there, but starts at 430 in the arv, somedays (like today) I can stave it off til 530. For a couple of days this week, he also wasn't feeding well, if at all, during the day. He'd have a feed in the morning before Andrew left for work at 7, then a few forced sucks, but not much, then after his bath at 630 he'd feed and be off to bed! No problems at night tho. Go figure. He hadn't eaten since 7 one day, so Andrew had to feed him with a bottle. None of us liked that idea. It's all back to normal now! I could have sworn the other night, I put him to bed, then turned around and he'd had a growth spurt! I didn't remeber him being that big before! We're trying to put Jensen into his own bed in his own room (he's there now - Oh the separation anxiety) coz at least by the end of this month - def by the end of next mth - we need to give his cradle back to my friend we borrowed it off, as her baby is due around then! The reason I asked about what a doula was, is that my cousin Mel - due in 6.5wks - asked me to be one of her support ppl with her mum as the other. I'm so excited. She lives about 10-15mins from here, so I'm not sure if Im to go there, they'll pick me up or I meet them there (really gotta work out the specifics!) My sister is upset with Mel, we think partly coz she's asked me and not her. I picked out the photo for my Twinkle Toes today and bought another pic. It was hard to pick only one! If I'd had money (if I had money at all!) I would have bought them all. It was thru a company called Little Images and boy, do they take a better photo than Pixifoto! In the bounty bag from the hospital, there were vouchers for free sitting and photo from Pixi every 6mths. I'll be doing that, but just getting the free photo. Whatever i can get for free showing my beautiful bub at his most innocent!

Anyway, I'm babbling and Ive forgotten every thing else I was going to say.. so I'll be back tomorrow (maybe!) Hope you all have a great night and weekend!

Ps: Now there's a Rhianon and a Rhiannon. hehehe I'm the 1st one!!

    Gosh new thread already!

KirstenF: You crack me up. As a former social netball player (we were called the Smurfs. My t-shirt said 'Grandpa Smurf' not due to age reasons but due unfortunately to fitness/skills reasons), I am impressed that you went back to playing so soon. Centre no less. That's the hardest working position. Laura is certainly tall enough to work the goal post though. That's a big, healthy bub you have there!

Kim: glad Hayden is back to normal now after his shots. Willa has hers next Friday and I'm anxious if she'll have any sort of reaction to them.

For all the other ladies who have already taken their bubs to get their needles, do you think its worthwhile investing in that numbing gel to apply to bub's skin before the shot? My MIL just said its worth looking into to reduce the discomfort. What exactly happens for the shots? One needle or more and how long for? Most likely WIlla will handle it like a champ, but will I handle it alright or will DH have to be on standby to catch me? God, I am such a wuss. I was so out of it from lack of sleep when the heel test was done at hospital that I don't actually remember much except Willa screaming her head off and me thrusting my boob in her face (which works well for pretty much most upsets).

Regarding drooling. Yeah, it has started here too. Not much but when we took the pro pics last week, we did have to pause for a few 'mop at face' breaks before resuming.

How come you guys have such substantial MCHN checkups. Mine was downright uneventful in comparison. WIlla got weighed and measured and I was asked if there were any problems. MCHN didn't ask about head lifting, tummy time (and we had been practicing too), motor skills or anything. I brought up those things. And I was asked if she needed to check WIlla's hip joints or if I was just going to leave that to my doctor for when we get the shots done. I thought, well if its that much of a bother, I'll wait for my GP to check that. Sheesh. Is it just a luck of the draw thing for which kind of MCHN u get?

Oh and my first mother's group meeting is tomorrow at our local park. We are coinciding the meeting with the visit of the Magic Yellow School Bus that comes around to the park once a week. This means there will be a zillion other parents and older kids running around, which in hindsight might not be the best thing for a sedate mother's group...

i'm off to buy a gro bag online now because WIlla appears to be channeling Harry Houdini. Anyone using one? How well does it work in place of swaddling?

    nighterz!

    hi all,

Sara, glad to hear of colby's sleeping. we had a good day yesterday too. This morning he went back to bed at 6 for me and slept till 9am, so far so good.

Kristen, on the doc saying you wouldn't be very good. Vaccinations will be fine, you will wonder what you worried about. what a tall lil girl you must have. I think she's bigger than Xave is. have you tried tickling her cheek to get her to turn her head herself. apparently babies turn their head towards where they think the food is and touching her cheek with your finger might get a response.

Neuri, 3 needles, one in one leg and 2 in the other. The person who did Xave was very quick. I've never heard of any numbing stuff, is it for babies?
If your not happy with your MCHN please contact your local council and make them aware. They all have different methods but they also have a certain things they need to check. My mum is head of childrens services in my area and says that if parents don't contact them and tell them about problems they can't fix them. They may be able to offer you a transfer to another nurse, and you shouldn't have to speak to your current nurse again if you don't want to.

As I said above, Xavier seems to be getting better at sleeping during the day. For the first time (I think) he wasn't completely grumpy when daddy came home. We even managed to eat our tea without a screaming baby. I ended up having to settle him with a dummy to get to sleep, but i snuck in about 20 mins later, it was no longer in his mouth so I just removed it so it didn't wake him up. He slept for 9.5 hours yay. I did hear him stir at around 3.30 and 4.30 but ignored him and he went back to sleep, so he seems to be able to self settle when need be. I fed him at 5.30 and changed and put him back to bed. he then slept from 6am till 9am. Right now lying happily on the loungeroom floor.

    So far so good today.

My little potato head is 8 weeks old today

Ta Kim and Becca for the info on the needles. If it goes in deep yeah i don't think the gel is going to be of that much use, but will ask the pharmacist to see what they do use it for. Kim, I can't work out if Willa likes being swaddled or not. Sometimes she does, other times, its arms out. But I don't like her kicking off blankets on cold nights so at least the gro bag will give me some peace of mind.

Becca, sounds like Xav has pinched Willa's day sleeps! They're MIA at the moment much to my dismay. She's feeding all over the place in the day time, and will fight her naptime. I actually had to rock and pat her to sleep this evening which I never need to do. Usually just pop her in her cot after a good feed and she's out. She didn't look too settled when Ieft her so fingers crossed she stays asleep while I type!

I'd faint from shock if she ever did more than a 5 hour sleep at night. 9.5 hrs is a dream! So far its been like 7-11pm sleep, then feed at 3 or 4 am and then sleep until 7 or 8 am. I can cope with that though.

Actually, I'm getting a bit how do you say...ANNOYED with my DH lately. I hate complaining behind his back but sometimes i just need to vent! As I mentioned previously, I worked 2 hrs a day for 3 days a week last 2 weeks. Work does not need me anymore now until I go back for 3 days a week in late November when Willa is 13 weeks old. Perhaps DH has just got used to having me home every day because lately I feel like I'm doing everything. I think this has happened also since I have grown more confident in looking after Willa. B4 I used to have freak outs and need his assistance all the time.

So yeah, I guess doing practically all of the cleaning, any cooking and most of Willa's care is fine while I'm not working, but when I go back to work I have this suspicion that I'll STILL be doing everything.

I don't get how he doesn't feel the least bit guilty when he leaves to go to training (kung fu) or to do other non-vital commitments when I feel chained to the house. I only leave to do super fast errands and always make sure the baby is sound asleep b4 I leave. I hate having to ask him to do stuff.

And how come I worry that when he's asleep I feel I should take extra care the baby is not crying. How come he doesn't do the same for me? I end up getting up and forgoing my very rare daytime naps because he's simply taken his time to settle Willa and she's screaming her head off. I know women run the world, but gees, maybe if he offered to change a diaper every now and then without (a) me asking or (b) the baby screaming because she needs a diaper change, I wouldn't be so cranky.

So yeah, grrr. That being said, he's still a great dad and a natural. Just too easy going to suit me, I guess. Maybe I'm looking for stuff to complain about. If i whinged to my mum abt this she'd just say, "thats men for you. its your job as the woman of the house to keep it together" but I think in this day and age, that's a cop out. Men need to pull their weight!

Gosh, long post. Sorry for the drama!

    Morning all!

Em is doing fabulously!!! Paed does not want to see her again unless she starts losing weight again! Dietician does not want to see her if she is over 5 kg @ 12 weeks! she weighed in @ 4.45kg, 58.5 cm long, hc 37.5 cm. GP will weigh her on the 26th when she has her needles - not looking forward to that coz both girls are having them done together .

Em is back on standard formula!!!! she was going thru 1.5 tins of heinz nurture per week! thankfully I only pay $10.98 per tin.

Have had internet issues 4 the last week n dont have time to catch up on personals as Sarah has swimming soon.

    Hi all,
Ali, that's fantastic news! So good to hear that Em's doing well! She's turning into a hefty little lass at last!
Neuri, I understand. I used to feel so guilty because Laura was supposed to be *my* responsibility. But then I decided that DH was her father and therefore he could look after her with no traumas. Maybe sit down with your DH and have a talk? Even "If she's screaming, check her nappy, that often settles her"- perhaps he just doesn't realise. :hugs: to you.
Becca, yay! on daytime sleeps and happy babies! That sounds good- I hope it continues.

Laura is bouncing in her hammock, having been ratty last night and much of this morning. I am still wearing pyjamas at 11.41am. And I'm supposed to be meeting friends at 3pm. Therefore, I shall ignore the baby and get dressed. She's clean and fed and warm, and she has things to look at, and it won't harm her if I'm not there for 30 minutes.

Can you tell I feel guilty?
(DH has gone on a 28km run, if anyone's wondering where he is.)

    Hi all,
Hope you're having a good weekend I love the thought of weekends cause I always think "phew, DH can do half the baby stuff", but in reality I think I end up doing it all still, yet pass a happy smiley relaxed Milla to DH so he can have some quality time (I do feel sad that he is at work all day and misses so many of her lovely moments). So the mess in the house increases, the routine I try to set up during the week goes out the window, and DH never really gets to see or understand just how high maintenance his darling little girl is!! So Nueri, yeah, I hear you. DH and I had a bit of an argument cause he thought he was doing "all the cleaning" (he vaccuumed once last weekend...). He said that doing the dishes and the laundry didn't count, and boy, that fired me up. If Milla is asleep for an hour or two, that is all taken up by me eating (kind of essential!), doing the dishes, and the laundry. That's my day gone!!! Anyway - I think we are just both super tired and fatigued. When I was first home from hospital he really did do heaps, but that was quite a while ago now.... how long does that credit last for!!!

Sorry to take so long to answer your questions Sara: Milla was 3.18kg at birth, 53cm, 33cm HC. Now at nearly 7 weeks she is 4.8kg - not sure of length, but she is way too big for all her 0000s now WE tease her that we are fattening her up for Christmas - she is just getting very chubby and delightful. Lots of little smiles. I've posted her birth story on BB - its pretty long, but basically it was a really positive, all natural (some gas) delivery - took about 5 hours (phew), and she started feeding straight away.

During the week we have a bit of a routine, give or take an hour or so. We wake up at about 8 (after a brief wake-up when DH leaves for work at 7), she has a nap at around 10am for 2 hours, and then an afternoon nap at 3 (sometimes this is hard to do). I feed her and when she is all relaxed and dopey I wrap her (otherwise she fights it off and hates it!), then put her in her cradle and put the radio on... usually I have to rock the cradle with some little jerky movements for about 5 minutes and she goes to sleep.. At night she NEVER wants to sleep, and has to fall asleep on DH's tummy, or mine, and then we have to leave her there for half an hour til she's really deeply asleep. We try to do the bath / feed / wrap thing, but she just wont close her eyes at night! She's nocturnal. She sleeps from about 8 - 1, then eaisly goes back to sleep after a feed, usually til 3 or 4, then I normally put hernext to me in bed for the last few hours... she has had a bit of wind, and gets pretty miserable around then, and I am so consious of keeping her quiet while DH sleeps the last few hours of the morning (although then his alarm wakes us all up, and he continues to press the snooze button three times, so maybe I shouldn't be so considerate at 4am!!) Ha

I'm not really a routine person myself - but I'd like for her to at least have some regular long sleeps during the day, and be easier ot settle at night, so I'm giving it all a go. We're not using a dummy unless its really bad arsenic hour and we need to cook / eat for 5 minutes in peace.

    She's awake - gotta go...

    Cheerio!

    Hi all,

    happy 8 weeks willa!!

Sonia, I hear you, although all I have to do is ask or tell and things get done. I shouldn't complaine, 'cause sometimes he just does things but it's rare. I just wish he would just do stuff that needed doing, instead of walking past it all the time.

alison, that's fantastic news that emma is doing so well !

Kristen, you poor thing. Sometimes I just wish that I didn't have to work around nathan (eg going to work) so that I could have time to get showered and dressed properly. At the moment I feel like the last person that gets looked after. Nathan tries but it's hard sometimes. I've been trying to express enough so I have a supply in the freezer for when I need to do things like getting hair cut etc, So I haven't been able to hand Xavier over to nathan to feed. But speaking of haircuts next sat I'm booked in. I'm getting cut coloured and foiled and with the amount of hair i have it can take about 2 hours or more, so I'm going to have a long rest.

Rhi, your birth experience sounds a little like mine, I'll have to check your story out.

I think we are all starting to get to the point where we are feeling a little un appreciated. I am just lucky that my Hubby doesn't expect me to clean. His parents don't clean and he's grown up with that.
I'm sure that this is just another hump we have to get over. I'm sure as mums we will be putting our selves last etc for the rest of our lives.
So it is important to sometimes just say, stop, no I'm having some me time, Daddy it's your turn.

I am actually waiting for Nathan to realise you can't go to bed at 1.30am when you have a baby, because I'll be buggered if I'm the only one getting up at 6am, just because he was too silly to go to bed.

    Hi all,

Kim I can't wait to have my hair done, esp when they wash the dye out. I love having my head rubbed. Sorry to hear you have to switch to just formula, but I'm sure that if it's best for both you and Hayden it will all be fine. You have given him a really great start and it is important that you are both happy.

Sara, you can't help being busy. It's good to know that your still hanging in there though.

Great news. we got a 10.5 hour sleep last night. 8pm till 6.30am. I was very impressed.

    Hi all!
Kim, don't feel guilty- as others have said, it's the best thing for Hayden at this point. You did well, don't beat yourself up. And Oh, how I'd love to have my hair done! Just a trim (and wash, blowdry) would do me at this point. Sigh. Visions of things that can never be dance before my eyes...

Sara, how goes the doula course? Are you enjoying it, even though I imagine it's hard work? Tell us all, I'm rather curious.

Ali, congrats to your little Sarah on getting to the next swimming level! I like the idea of vanishing for a night and leaving both girls with DH. An excellent way to educate the other half of the partnership.

Well, today's been entertaining- I was up at 5.50am (curse you, inadequate curtains in Laura's room!) and fed Laura. And fed her and fed her and fed her. Seriously, that child was a bottomless pit this morning! And then, unsurprisingly, I had to change a nappy that should have been marked "Caution Toxic Waste", and we went through three nappies just waiting for her to finish pooing. Every time I thought she'd finished, she'd turn red and squeak again. The lowest point came when I was sure she was done and hoisted her up by her ankles, only to get a jet of liquid poo all down my nightie. SIGH....

But matters improved, and we made it to the library and I have many books to read to her, and she was very good in the library (once I fed her AGAIN). DH is reading nursery rhymes to her and to my amusement is singing them as though he's Elvis. Gives "Little Miss Muffet" a whole new meaning!
And we just got back from netball, where I played WA for a half, as I was feeding her (sigh) the first half, and we won 27-8. Woooooo!!!

    So, how are you?
