Thanks for your comments guys!
Melinda - I have been put on Zoloft about 2 months ago and also going to see a psychologist weekly.Although I am still having bad days every now and again, on the whole I am getting alot better. The hardest part atm is anxiety and trying to work out what is pnd and what is normal anxiety..it almost feels like retraining my brain.
On another note..how are your babies sleeping?do any sleep through yet?
Hi everyone I would like to join this little group too please. I have my boy Scout, born 24th March 2008. He is my fourth son, he has big brothers Corban 11, Kees (pronounced Case) 9 and Ardyn who is 6. So its almost like having just one baby again with him as the boys are at school all day its fantastic spending so much time together.
Scout was born 9 days late weighing in at a healthy 9lbs 9oz and a massive 59cms long. Yes I was incredibly uncomfortable as he looked like a baby giraffe. All arms and legs. He is a fantastic cruisy baby because to be honest with 3 brothers he doesnt have alot of choice. Lol
He is breastfed but does enjoy a bottle as well so Dad can feed him when I have had enough and also when he goes to sleepovers at Nannys house. I didnt have alot of success with breastfeeding my other boys so im enjoying it and have no immediate plans to give it up anytime soon.
Well thats a little about us and I will add photos when I work it out.
Hey, its all going really well thanks. I am very lucky with him but like I say he is the fourth so I guess I should know what I am doing by now aye. He is a really cruisey baby and I am very lucky to say he has been sleeping through since about five weeks.
We did get some very strange looks etc about his name, but we like unusual names and it suits him. Besides who cares what others think its what we think that matters aye?
How is everything with your little man? He is a little cutie. Are you enjoying being a Mum? Is he a good boy?
Yes you are lucky to have him sleep through!
Sam doesn't, the longest he has slept in a row was 6 hours.once.Usually he wakes once at about 1am and then at about 5am, then sleeps in until 9am.
He hardly cries,he didn't cry at all until 6 Weeks. So I am lucky in that respect and he is a lovely boy, full of smiles.
I do enjoy motherhood, it's so amazing watching him grow and learn new things. The past 3 months have flown by.
Wow-4 Boys....must be a very loud house!!
I have a question..Is it normal for babies to not poo for days? He used to go everyday but the past few weeks it has been about every 4, sometimes more.
G'day there All-Boys and welcome to the thread ... most of us have been together since the early days of pregnancy, but I think you'll find we're a very welcoming bunch. Another boy! Hmmm, beginning to think there'll be a girl drought by the time our bubs are old enough to date and marry! Look forward to getting to know you. Out of interest, how long is little Scout now? 59cm at birth ... you did well !!!
Laurab - I've read it's normal for BF bubs not to poo for several days (think it can generally happen after six weeks). Not sure if Sam is BF or FF, but apparently BF bubs don't suffer constipation. Dunno if this info helps ... . As for sleeping through, Cam has been sleeping through since he was approx 7-8 weeks old. After his christening yesterday, with a dozen odd people around him most of the day (holding him, coo-ing and goo-ing to him etc), I thought he'd have a bad night's sleep, but it was quite the opposite. He slept from 10pm till 8am. Reckon I'm just a lucky mum .
Mel - speaking of sleeping, how's James' going? Any improvement? Got my fingers crossed things are looking up.
Question for those of you who have bubs teething and/or have "been there, done that" with other children ... what are the early signs of teething??? Lately Cammie has become a bit fussy on the boob - pulls off and/or only wants 10 mins or so (instead of usual 20). This happens at least one or two feeds a day, every second or third day. My MIL reckons she saw him rub his fingers backwards and forwards across his bottom gums (I haven't seen it ...). Plus he's been a bit unsettled around "witching hour" for the past week or so. I can't see or feel the beginnings of any teeth, but just wondered ...
Probably nothing but usual baby grumbles (... or maybe my normally placid baby is discovering there's more to life than sleeping and feeding !).
Hey thanks for the welcomes.
Scout is now a massive 66cm long. He is off the charts in length as you can imagine. The doctor had to measure him twice because he thought he got it wrong. He was 14lb at his last visit so he is pretty normal weight wise but still looks like that baby giraffe because he is all arms and legs. DH thinks he looks like a dalmatian puppy!
Yes he was supposed to be my pink baby but I couldnt imagine him being a girl now. He gets spoilt enough so it would be twice as bad if he was a little girl. But our house is very rarely quiet, especially at the moment with school holidays.
Laura is Sam BF? I also heard it is normal for them not to poo as breastmilk is such a complete food, there is no wastage, so I guess no poo!
Hope this helps
Andie you are right we have so many boys in here, its quite amazing.
im beginning to think i opened an unbrella inside or let a black cat cross my path on friday the 13th for all the bad luck we have been having, emily now has both ears infected and is on antibiotics (thats another fun story) we have never such a bad run with sickness before, saturday night was a complete write off for sleep between james and emily, i think we were lucky to get one hour all up.
bec is still without internet access and has had little Jake at emergency with bronchiolitis they werent admitted so are back home with him now and are doing ok
hayley how are you, you have been quiet for a while
Laura my boy is nowhere near sleeping through, occasionally he will do a 6 hour stretch from about 6pm but never overnight when we are sleeping ! its good you sound like you are finding your way through PND, im sure it would be hard to distinguish feeling as there is plenty of mummy guilt and anxiety involved in having children in general !
How are you all today?
Mel - glad to know I am not the only one to have a baby that doesn't sleep well.
All-boys - 66cm!!! my gosh that's huge!! We thought Sam was big at 62cm! Although Sam is the opposite of long and lean. He weighs 17.5 lbs! It's very strange because he was only 7 lbs 3 oz when he was born.He is a little fatty,3 rolls on each thigh!
Thanks for the advice on the pooing issue! I do bf so that must be why.I sure got a surprise last night when I opened the nappy - it had been 5 days.Gross...oh the joy of motherhood.
Hi Girls, Melinda oh gosh! You poor thing, you really need a break. I hope this next week is better for you and your bubs. Far out! I would be at my wits end now if I was you. I hope you are going ok and have got some physical support. BB is great but it can't hold a sick or crying bub! All Boys Welcome Scout sounds like a real cutie. I love the name too. Laura Flynn was around 5-7 hrs overnight. However he was sick about 2 weeks ago and that has pretty well gone out the window! Now he does around 4, which is ok I guess. Wow Sam is heavy! I think Flynn is about 7kgs (15lbs) and that is killing me!! I got my DH to raise the base of the cot so i don't have to bend over to get him out, I'm so glad, my back was not happy! Andie Cam sounds like such a champ! No fuss with the water on his Christening and sleeping so well! Wonderbub! Flynn has been pulling off and getting back on and then pulling off too (I think the is draining the breast very quickly cos he happily goes on to the other one and doesn't come on an off?). Cam could be getting more efficient at feeding and doesn't need to be on for as long (they do that apparently). I don't know much about teething, apparently they drool a lot, have very flushed cheeks, tug on their ears and have lump/bumps on their gums. Don't know if this helps, I'm sure it's just a season tho
I'd better get going, hope you are all well.
Hi everyone,
How are you all? Nice to see some new faces around.
On the subject of sleep.....Cohen is having a shocker of late!!! OMG!! He used to have 1-2hr naps during the day every couple of hours and he would sleep from 6:30 or 7:30pm till 2 or 3am have a bottle and then sleep till 6 or 7 have a bottle and be awake for an hour or 2 and then he would start his nap routine during the day. Now....it's all over the place. Today he has had about 20 mins all day and he has just gone down 1 hr ago but I just had to go in and resettle him cause he just woke up. This is happening every couple of hours during the night lately! I'm going MENTAL!!!!! Have had to take him into bed with us which is nice cause we can snuggle but I don't want to start him sleeping in our bed. Aaaarrrggghhh
How is everyone else going in the sleep dept?
Forgot to add...Here is my blogspot if you all wanna have a look???
I have been a bit absent, sorry, a bit of marital stuff happening and school holidays have just started. I am OK, just having to step back a little.
Welcome new mummas!! My name is Hayley. I am mum to 4 kids, the latest addition Ari was born March 16th after a 3 hour natural labour - he was 9lb, 52.5cms and had a 36cm head. 2 weeks ago he was about 7.150kgs and 64cms, he is exclusively breastfed on demand and will be breastfed for about 2+ years all going well. We use cloth nappies and I baby wear a lot.
Ari sleeps anywhere from 8-10pm to 6-8am which is nice, I generally get 1 or 2 nights a week where I don't get woken up by one of the kids. Days can be a bit iffy but he sleeps well when worn.
Mel - I really hope things turn around for you really soon. Maybe one of those days we could catch up in Erina or somewhere???
Andie - I honestly don't know that babies show that many signs of teething until the teeth are actually cutting their gum..... but maybe I am cynical . My 5year old and 2 year old are getting molars at the moment and the only time it has bothered them is if they place pressure on it iykwim (eating etc) I noticed DS5s before he did .
I have found Ari is actually crying sometimes now - not just whining but an all of a sudden scream and I really think that it is him starting to assert himself a little more. He also protests more when he gets overtired, is getting cranky with the school drop off/pick up where before he just went with the flow.
Bec - Thinking of you - hope you are all ok
laura - I had my first bub just after I turned 22 and was quiet isolated socially due to most our friends being pub/club/drinking people - mothers group was the only thing that kept me sane, is there one available to you?. I also had depression (unmedicated), a screamer baby and many issues from my own childhood. I have continued on to have more babies (antenatal depression once but no more pnd) and I have to say I didn't know how dark it was till I came out the other side, iykwim, but I did come out the other side .
OK must sign off - xoxoxoxo Hayley

Jeepers! Everytime I get back on, its a madhouse!! So busy in here now!!
Welcome to Laurab and AllBoys!!! Welcome back Eli!
More boys eh. I am resigned to thinking I will be having nothing but girls on my side of the fence. Well at least I don't have to worry too much about getting peed in the eye hehe.
Btw for pics of my girls I have a blog- www.reeniescornerofthestar.blogspot.com
LauraB- Sorry to hear about PND. I was paranoid that I would get it after both my bubs, as I had some stressful times at home. Lucky for me I didn't. But about 3 months before I fell pregnant with Seraya I was on Lexapro. Found that helped ease my anxiousness and depression. Wanted to stop taking it because of baby and wanted to try therapy before I got dependant on drugs. Therapy helped me A LOT. But for everybody it is different. I understand that sometimes its more chemical, and sometimes it's just a matter of changing our perceptions, or sometimes its a bit of both. Either way, it can't be easy with a new baby to care for. So for you. If you ever need to vent, vent away. I know I have many times. It is nice to know, that even though we can't get together in person, we can jump on here and write our our frustrations, and that sooner or later, other mothers with similar aged bubs, read it and empathise.
I am the same age as you, and all of my friends except a few are party girls and single. I decided on the weekend to try and meet young mums in my area (Brisbane) and organise get togethers. I found mothers group up here was good, but the mothers were all a lot older then me, and I found it hard to relax with them. They were all very nice, but all they talked about were their kids. I don't want to offend anyone here, but I never want to be defined as just a house wife and mother. I like to discuss important world issues or even things that are happening locally. But these were the type of women, who live for their children. Which is lovely, but I like to strike a happy medium. So I have started a Facebook group for yummy mummys in Brisbane Hope it works out. Other then that, we are moving into a house in a few weeks and I will be hosting a playgroup there once a week. That way I can be in control of any threats to my toddlers allergies, and enjoy socialising in a more convenient and safe environment. Playgroup Australia is who I am going through.
On the poo front (moving right along ) Seraya poops every 2nd day like clock work. She is half Bfed and half formula fed. Simply because with a two year old and uni I just don't have the time to exclusively breast feed.
Seraya is a bit of a night owl like her parents. She generally sleeps 10-12 hours from midnight or 1-2am and onwards. Sleeps till lunchtime and then feeds, sleeps another few hours. Is awake around dinner time for a few hours until about 11-2am then goes to sleep for the long block. ALthough she is teething atm so her routine is a bit all over the shop.
Mel How is James going now that you have sourced the root of his fussiness? Hope you guys are doing better.
Andie Glad to hear Cam went well with the christening. So lovely that it was a nice day for you and your family. Would be nice to have something like that, a bit ceremonious. SInce after the wedding and birth(s) it seems we have to wait until our babies get married for anything exciting like that
Bec- Hope you guys are going well and Benji is better. How is BFing going?
Hello to the rest of the girls. Sorry I had to skim through as there was so much to catch up on! I am so busy atm. We are refurbishing our city apartment to sell it. Its kinda fun, doing up the kitchen and repainting etc. But its very time consuming to liase with all the tradesmen and meet them there and go back and forth and pick out tiles, and colours and light fittings. It is fun though. But very hard with toddler and baby.
Start Uni next week, which is exciting. Yet daunting with kiddies. My MIL volunteered to come over next week and babysit. I appreciate the offer, but I will die before I let her in my house. I know that sounds awful, but she will come in and re arrange furniture, do washing, and touch things she shouldn't. I have put quite an effort into building a small fort away from her and thats how I would like to keep it!
Laura my bub was born on MArch 31st too. at 1040 or was it 1041? I can't remember how bad is that? I was a bit preoccupied at the time as I had to have an emerg section too. But it all went well and we got the result we wanted. Laura you are doing a great job, sometimes we don't hear it enough and it is terrible when we feel socially isolated too and mummy guilt is awful. I had only been living in this town for about 3 months before I had my bub and I ended up being ion the city for 6 of those weeks. I am lucky it is a small town and there are alot of mums around my age with new bubs. Hang in there.
Reenie - wow sounds like you are really busy. Make sure you take time out for you
Mel- Bugger, hopefully things will look up soon. When do you go to tresillian?
Bec- How are things going?
Andie - glad the christening went well
Robo and everyone hi
We are doing ok here. Still unsettled but I tried mylanta over the weekend and there has been some slight improvement with day slepps and generally, not a miracle but enough that I have just started E on Zantac and we will see. we aren't 100% convinced it is reflux as he doesn't scream when lying flat but there are others - coughing and refluxing when lying flat - in bed, unhappy when feeding, vomits clear and curdish at times. Who really knows, but i hope it works as it is terrible seeing him unhappy. Not sleeping through but some nights I can get 6 hours other it is 4 with a 2 hour awake period at 2am! Still fully BF. We have been tempted to try formula just to see what happens but I don't think his unsettledness is hunger related.
Aghh what a shocker if a few days I've had! Sam has been waking every 1 1/2 - 3 hours over night the last few days..he just wants to eat.
He has also been really fussy at the breast...he wont feed when I am sitting up or when there is any noise or people in the room. The only time I can get him to eat is lying down in bed alone. He used to be such a good feeder so I don't understand it, and I don't know what to do.I can't just stay in the bed all day! Has anyone ever had anything like that happen? It has only been the past few days.
On top of that I really wasn't feeling the best yesterday, just really down.It seems that every time I take a few steps forward a few days later I take step back.I guess I can't expect it to get better right away.I'm just over it though..I want to feel myself again.
On the plus side I am feeling OK today, I had my hair done this morning and I have beautiful baby boy! I guess i have to think to myself that if I take 2 steps forward and only 1 step back then I am still getting better.
Mel - ear infections in both ears! how horrible! I'm lucky in that respect because Sam hasn't been sick at all.I'm always worried though...how do you tell?
Hayley/Reenie - I went to new mothers group for the first time last week.Only problem was that they were all so much older than me(not that that would bother me on its own). I found the whole thing very competitive, what pram the all had, schools they were thinking of sending the babies to...that sort of thing. When they asked me what school I thought I would send Sam to I just said " I haven't even thought of that, I don't even know if we will be living in the area by the time he starts school" They looked at me really funny then!!Gosh he is only 3 months old!!So Reenie - I totally agree with your experience of mothers group!Glad to hear that you overcame PND,It's good to hear that kind of thing, gives me hope.
Luey - 31st too!! Sam was born at 1:25pm so they are 15 minutes apart!!Thanks for your positive Comments.
I also just wanted to say thank you to you guys for making me feel so welcome here.i can already tell that I am going to make some great friends on BB.
LauraB- Yeh that sucks about mothers group. I had the same experience. Maybe you should consider something like yogababy? I am sure they would have something like that in Melbourne. I did that with India when she was a few months old. It is yoga with your baby. You meet other funky mums. And it is great for your body and mind. You can keep doing it for as old as bubs gets. First you can do actual exericises with them and then you can let them play with the other babies in the middle of the room while you enjoy the class. That might be fun for you and baby. As for feeding the little man, all I could suggest is that he may be feeling a little anxious. I know that Seraya feeds of my emotions really intensely. If I am anxious or upset she is too. Maybe you should consult a baby nurse or your GP?
Hope he sorts himself out.
CatherineMoses- Hope your little one settles for you in a nice long block of sleep. Seraya has the odd phase like that, but its usually related to her having a growth spurt and needing lots of food. Or teething.
Luey- I totally forgot you had a cesar too. How are you healing? And anyone else with c sections? Mine is going well. Sometimes I have shooting sharp pains, but I gather its the nerves trying to heal. I am still a little numb near the scar. It can be sore sometimes. Mostly only when one of the girls kicks it. Just when you think they can't do any more damage!!
Well gotta go. Need to eat before bubba wakes me up for boobies. xx
I would like to join the group too....I have another boy to add to this group, Dusty was born on the 18 March, waters broke @ 2.30 am & due to failure to progress he came out of the emergency exit @ 9.35 pm. He was 4.35kg & 54 cm long.
Whew there are a lot of babies born during march and I apologise in advance if I miss someone or mix up the names as it is not deliberate.
DS doesn't sleep very well either, I would be happy with 3 hrs straight sleep but as I keep reminding myself it won't last forever. ATM he will generaly sleep for 1-2 hrs of a morning & then nap for the rest of the day for about 30 mins until about 9.30 pm - 11 pm where he only wakes for a "dream feed" I think they call it he wakes every few hrs for a feed but doesn't wake up. Occasionaly I will put him into bed with us just to get some sleep without having to get up to feed, it makes it easier to snooze while he feeds. I bf on demand, mostly every 2-3 hrs.
Andie: DS was feeding for 20 mins on each side & started to do what Cammie is coming off & on & now he is only on each side for 5-10 mins max, at first I tried to keep on the one side until the time was up but that was just frustring both me & DS. Not sure about teething are there any "blisters" on his gums ?? that is suppose to be a sign
Laura B: DS only poos every few days now & I think it just builds up though, like your 5 day surprise. When I was first told that BF babies only poo every few days or so I couldn't wait but now I think I wish he would go at least once a day. I think your little one's fussiness at the moment is that he is probably very distracted & interested in the world around him as my DS is the same, not quite so bad but everytime I am on the phone he thinks I am talking to him & keeps trying to talk to me instead of feeding.
About the mothers group there could be a young mothers group in your area speak to your community nurse or GP. I finally plucked up the courage to go to the local playgroup & as I am in the country things seem a bit more relaxed which is good!!
All-boys: I like your boys name, we had a few strange looks & comments when we chose Dusty, I didn't know about Dusty Springfield who is a girl apparently but I figure Kim/ Peter/Jodi/Toni etc... can be either so why can't Dusty!! & we had decided on Dusty before Slim Dusty died but everyone seems to think it is a tribute to him but you get that!!
Rustygirl: I checked out your blog & your boy is beautiful, I think it is amazing that they can go from skinny little mites to chubby little buddas in such a short amount of time!!
Bec: I think you are amazing for reestablishing BF, keep at it & let us know how you go!
Luey: My sister warned me about mummy guilt, I didn't believe her but I understand now. I think my DS seems to have reflux sometimes & I'm sure you've tried everything but I will add my 2 cents worth anyway. I find it hard to burp him most of the time but persist, generally for at least 5 mins or more & put him on his tummy after a feed, & that seems to have improved things. This is not to say that he isn't unsettled sometimes & he will still throw up the curdled milk & wake up crying etc... just something to try.
Reenie: My scar has healed well but have found lately that I am getting pain occasionally in that area also AF still hasn't arrived not sure if this is because I am BF or the C-section any ideas anyone?? (sorry if TMI)
I was also wondering if anyone has thought about introducing SOLIDS yet?? more a exploration thing than replacing a BF- Just wondering what where everyone is upto there??
ALSO how long do are your bubs between sleeps, I am putting DS to sleep after about 1&1/2 hrs but seems to fight & I was thinking I should stretch it out a bit??
Thanks for your advise.Part of it is definitely being more alert. He is always looking around during feeds and playing with my hair.
Emergency ceasar must have been very scary. That was the thing I was most worried about. How was the healing?
My labor wasn't what I expected either! My contractions started at 10am on the 29th and became really painful and 5 mins apart at about 7pm.We went to the hospital but at about 3am the slowed to 10 mins apart and when they checked me at 9 am I was only 2cm and was sent home for another day of agony!I went back in at about 7pm on the 30th where they didn't even check me until 9am on the 31st!!only 4cm so they broke my waters. At about 12 they checked and was still 4cm.It then got really bad..1 non-stop contraction,I dilated to 10cm in 20 minutes and gave birth at 1:25pm.All up 50 hours.
I still don't understand why they didn't break my waters the first morning.
What was everybody Else's labors like??
