kuraiza - you will find, its not that he doesnt like it. But taste some rice cereal yourself and then some pumpkin. Rice cereal is very bland. Its just a new taste to him. Try adding a little formula or BM to it. If hes not into it, dont feed him.. just give him the bowl and let him explore it. Mind you, you will prob have pumpkin in places u never thought existed but atleast he will have fun. At this age his milk is still the most important source of nutrition.

"They" also say to try new foods up to 10 times before dismissing it. As Hollye said - pumpkin and rice cereal - I can't even bear to put rice cereal to my lips anymore LOL.

I am going to try pear this weekend - kuraiza - try some swt potato if you want vege - easy to squish up and not as strong as pumpkin ....??? banana at this age can also be painful for their tummies - but around 7 months their digestive system is more ready for it - if that helps - just what I have learned from th eother kiddlets.

Oh, and my allergy guidelines says choko at 6 months - i dont even know what choko is lol - so we dont eat it so not gunna try it lol.

I feel incapable at the moment - drowning! trying to do homework, outside of school activities, stay at home mum stuff, permission notes, readers, playdates for Riley, birthday parties on the weekend ARGH and eat well - it is me that is coming last

Chokos are those weird wrinkly green vegies that look like a dehydrated pear. They're very very watery and mild tasting. My nan grew them, I never liked them much but I didn't hate them either, there's nothing about them to like or hate. I can see them being easy for a baby to eat.

I mixed the pumpkin with the rice cereal, but I guess I'll try something else. Pity I mashed up all that pumpkin, I thought at the time "I should keep some of this and bake it for us" but we aren't having any baked meals this week so the pumpkin would have gone bad. Oh well, maybe he'll eat it in a week or 2 and it will keep in the freezer.

I want to start on vegies so maybe I will try a choko. "They" say that you set whether you prefer sweet or savoury by what you're first exposed to as a baby, so I want to avoid sweet, I only tried a little banana just to see but he didn't want a bar of it anyway.

KURAIZA Oops, sorry I missed you in my last post. I hadn't seen you post for a page or so. Hope you're doing well. Have you tried mixing other food with the rice cereal? Just a bit, then gradually increase the other food & decrease the cereal. Sami is right though, they do say that you should just keep offering it & they will eventually take it.

SAMI Yeah, I reckon you're right. I'll end up driving myself nuts cause I'll also have a 2 year old running around ruining my routine lol.
Oh, and yes, I do wake him up for his day sleeps too. I wanted to watch that show on ABC, my MIL told me about it. She said Thursday nights,is that right? what time?

KATONES Yay on the poo... Lol your DH being mortified.

oh wow, this solids business sounds complicated. We haven't started yet... but will soon! I think I need to contact a dietician mebbe. Apples & pears are s'thing that i can't eat...so i really dunno if we should avoid them with him or not... but they're such a typical baby food. Hmm might make some phone calls.

GEORGI - I think s'one told me that the babies show has just finished? dunno if it's still going up there? Was on at 8.30pm on Thurs here.

SAMI - quick quick, cancel everything, the sky won't fall in, everything else can wait.... it's SAMIH time!!!!! Ok so it's not that easy... but GL finding some you time.

KURAIZA - learn something every day, I had no idea what choko's were. i was think it was some kinda european chocolate...choko... lol just wishful thinking?

Bananas..well each to their own i never had probs with my older 2 and none with Jack having bananas..i cut a small piece off (about the size of a ****tail frankfurt) skin on..cut about 2 cms of the skin off so it is easier for Jack to hold and he eats the banana himself...
little bugger woke at 4.30am playing!!!! BUT guess what..he is going in his own room tonight!!!!

I thought everyone's nan grew chokos, they're like an aussie icon - the choko vine creeping over the back fence ... check your backyard, you probably have one

Georgi: I think the series is over. I have 2 episodes of Bringing up Baby on my TiVo that I haven't seen because I watched about 1/2 the first episode before I was too angry and upset to watch any more.

Those poor poor crying sad babies being left outside in the cold for 4 hours, left just crying and completely neglected ... you could see the resigned rejection in the eyes of the baby during its 10 minutes of allocated cuddle time, its face screamed "why bother cuddle me at all". I was crying.

Thanks for the advice about feeding. I offered him some pumpkin again last night and let him nibble it off my finger and get his hands in it and shovel it all over his face and he had a great time and ended up enjoying the pumpkin, so I think he'll be fine with it now. I've been really slow about introducing foods, but he's not quite 5 1/2 months yet so I'm not in a rush.

Ebay news: If anyone wants to buy a bumbo or a bebe pod, the bebe pods sell for much much less than the bumbo on Ebay. I nearly bought a bebe pod today for $30, but I decided I didn't need it because Jude will be sitting on his own soon anyway. But still, the bumbos are selling for twice that. Weird, huh?

I bought a bumbo for $50 from a BB member..i use it all the time (aswell as they try attatchment)when i am doing things in the kitchen or in Jacks room when he is whingy..just pop him in it wherever i am...says for use up to 14months..BUT i don't think we will get too much longer use out of it..as Jacks thighs are too chubby and get stuck at least it will re-sell for a fair bit on ebay

Hmmm, that show sounds awful. My MIL told me about them leaving the babies outside. How terrible is that!

I watched that show on the ABC too and it was horrible.

I can't really comment on solids cos I haven't started them yet. But my plan now is not to offer rice cereal. I'm going to start with fruits and vegetables.

My DH is really sick (gastro So I'm having a busy time looking after two people at the moment.

belfie - I am so jealous of your hairdresser trips. I am going to admit something.. I haven't been to the hairdressers since the end of September last year. Maybe after I move my mother will be able to mind Maya while I finally get my hair done again!

I know. But the only person who can mind Maya is DH and he works. So the only time I can go is on a Saturday and they are always extremely busy on Saturdays and take twice as long!

I haven't been to the hairdresser since early February last year. I also don't own any makeup (not even mascara), yep I'm a hideous mess.

Tanya, why are you skipping rice cereal? It is Iron fortified and is good for babies.

    ooooh.

Tanya, ok step 1 - DH must take day of leave/chuck sickie. step 2 - Tanya goes for cut'n'colour! You poor thing, you'll feel soooo much better when you get one. I was toying with growing my hair so I wouldn't need to keep cutting it... but i'm addicted. I feel like a new woman after Weds. Mebbe you could go like first thing on a Sat before everyone else is outta bed? Oh and I'm so sorry to hear DH has gastro, if he's like mine I'm sure he thinks he's at death's door

As for bumbo, OMG I tried X in one at MG yesterday (had always been curious, but never tried 'em). I thought I was never gonna get him out again, seriously he was soooo wedged in he was quite happy tho as u can see! https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...2&ppuser=11474

X is sooo teething now... he's been screamingly unhappy tonight, I've had to resort to panadol. He's had 3 walks today, that's a record.

Oh and I got this pic, it's SUCH a boy shot! https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...3&ppuser=11474

Tanya - dont be scared by all the rice cereal talk lol - making them constipated - each baby reacts differently - i didnt have any probs with my other two at all I only have DH to look after my kids too - and I just make the appt like a month in advance and first one of the day so I shouldnt get held up

kuraiza - bubs dont lose the iron right on 6 months, so as long as you introduce some other form of iron into their diet - doesnt have to be much - they should be fine.

Zander had another big poo yesterday so def rice cereal related for him. We have had 4 days off any tries of solids, will try some porridge today if it fits in with all the other stuff we have to do - 3 kids parties sheesh.

SAMI You just can't resist the poo talk huh Well nore can I......

TANYA BJ hasn't had any drama's with the rice cereal & he's not even a daily a pooer. What I do sometimes is give him a shot glass (this is what I use to mix & feed him the rice cereal) of ebm, just the foremilk, that seems to keep him regular.

Funny you're talking about hair... Last night I had a dream (I hadn't read this thread till now) that I had my hair done. I dyed it lighter & when I got home DH said "That's not light enough"... MY HAIR hasn't had attention since I was 16 weeks pregnant.... There, I am officially the most un womanly person here... Though I did have a treatment about 3 weeks ago, does that count?

Hairdressers is also like "forced" time out for me - I take a book, grab a gloria jeans coffee and just sit without worry for 90 or so minutes .....

Bugger this morning though - z woke at 6 (how rude on a Saturday) and fed at 6.20ish - I put him back at 7.30 and lucky he complied - but I will have to get him up around 8.30 to try and get him to have a little feed before I go .... and we have to be out by 11.30 again so again will have to try and force a feed into him so he lasts the drive/parking/getting to parties situation! All of this scheduling my husband never thinks about

belfie - awww that was my boy a few days ago too - but last night he was ok ...
