I had the worst sleep last night, Maddie was coughing in her sleep all night and it sounded terrible. I got her up at one stage and gave her some water with panadol in it, hoping that the water would clear her chest a bit but nothing was really working. Other than that she slept but it was DP and I who were lying awake thinking omg what can we do for her lol.

Renee - Maddie is the same as Rory, she will wake in the morning and happily lay there talking to herself waiting for someone to come and get her. Naughty me, I have been known to use that now and then for an extra half an hr sleep in hehe! Also they are much the same with their day time sleeps. Did you find a toy chest? We have a white one for Maddie but atm we use it as her blanket box. Also if you are looking for cheap and fun looking toy boxes, Ikea have really cute ones for $10 - they arent wood they are like a mesh material but does the job and looks great. You can see them on their website.

Arte - That is so funny that baby boys discover their pee pee and play with it! Men, it starts early doesnt it!

Cmumma - As long as Charli is sleeping through the night, who cares about day sleeps!

Leemar - Have a great time you lucky girl!

Noni - Oh no what a bummer about the house. It will be much nicer with just the 3 of you though, you can walk around the house nakie and no one cares lol.

Is anyone going to get the ikea high chair? It looks a bit boring and el cheapo, but someone I know highly recommends it as she says its all plastic and you can take it outdoors and hose it down.

Hayley - I'd like to get the Ikea chair, but we don't have a shop near here so it would be too difficult. They don't do mail order do they?

K lies there talking to herself too in the mornings. I certainly don't rush in to pick her up either!! Sometimes it's nice having breakfast first or just lying in bed for a bit longer.

Leanne - have a lovely holiday. Hope you don't miss your 3 little munchkins too much.

The days K has had heaps of awake time are usually bad nights. We had one this week where DH had to go in and resettle her every hour or so before he came to bed.

Hayley - if she is sleeping for that long during the day, she obviously needs it! I wouldn't be changing a good thing at all. Did you drop the dreamfeed last night?

MD - did you get some sleep last night? Has E done her massive poo yet?

Cally - re the sleep, thats exactly what I think, I was a bit confused when the physio said try to make her sleep less during the day. She has no idea, that will make her very grumpy. I dont know if Ikea do mail order? I didnt manage to drop the dreamfeed last night as she was sick, overtired and therefore we had a hard time settling her last night. So at about 8 I gave her the dreamfeed that I'd usually give her at 9 to help settle. I'll give it another go once she is better.

Poor Maddie i've been researching on the net because she has diarrhea and her terrible cough/cold thingamy. She slept today for 5 hrs straight. I've been trying to keep her fluids up, she isnt taking her full bottles as usual so I've been trying water in between feeds flavoured with a bit of panadol, otherwise she wont take the water. Her temp is normal but we are keeping a close eye on her.

Haley, hope M is feeling better tonight. Do they still make Vicks Vapor-rub? That can make breathing a bit easier if she is clogged up. Or an oil burner with eucalyptus oil in her room could help clear her nose.

Noni, good luck with the house, really hope you get one sorted soon.

Highchairs - DH's parents are restoring the one that DH had as a baby. We should be able to bring it back up after easter.

Leemar, hope you have a great trip.

We had quite a good day. I found a bush walk around the corner from my house, it was 50minutes return. My cousin gave me a carrier and DH took Will in it. Then we went for a drive up the mountain and bought a boat on ebay.

Is there a wonder week around 6 months? In the past week Will has started pulling himself up to standing, started cruising furniture and today he must have bum scooted because he was sitting about a foot from where I left him.

Good luck with the house Noni! Good tip with the syringe, thanks.

Arte - I cant believe Will is already pulling himself up and scooting along, that is so good! Love the new ticker pic he is such a cutie.

Just got Maddie to bed, after hrs of rocking, feeding, cuddles etc. Bought her a vapouriser for her room today so hopefully that will help her with the coughing tonight. I have already msged my boss to tell her I may not be in on Mon/Tues, depending on how she is feeling.

Arte - yes there is a wonder week at 26 weeks, so sounds like Will is right in it! Sounds like the walk was nice, I'm planning on us doing that once the weather cools down a bit more here. We've got heaps of lovely bush near us.

Hayley - hope Maddie had a good night once you got her down.

Noni - good luck with the house.

Hi everyone, I'm back from the brink of sleep-deprived insanity! LOL DH came home for Fri and Sat night and let me sleep...! Good thing to cos he's away again this week . Grin and bear it, MD.

Well we had a luuuurvely weekend, first in ages where I didn't have a deadline hanging over me. Didn't do much. Had lunch with a friend yesterday, & actually watched telly with the family! And we had a Happy Half Birthday party for Elisabeth with a big pink cake (!) and party hats . Not that she had any cake of course. I've been busy on eBay too, I've won a few good age appropriate toys AND the Tinytalk baby sign lang pack for $35! (*MD gives self pat on back*)

Cally there's a rumour going around that an Ikea is being built in fyshwick? Near the airport? But i could have completely the wrong end of the stick, if you ask you family they will prolly know. No they don't do mail order, your best bet is to get a family member to stop in when they're up at Sydney (you can look at the catalogue online and make your selection).

Arte, I've been wondering about a wonderweek too, I know it's around 26 weeks but I've been too mentally lazy to get my calendar out and work out whether 26 weeks is right on 6 mths or not! LOL @ bumscooting - nice work Will! Sounds like you might have yourself an early walker there. BTW, v impressed with your busy weekend!

Hayley, I sooo hope Maddie is feeling better soon poor chook!

Noni, good tip (as usual) re water in the syringe...we haven't tried E on water yet, DH bought sippy cups without the handles so i'd like to get some with handles so she can wave it around and bang it on the table (her favorite thing right now, banging LOL). Good luck with the house.

Renee, hope you enjoyed your 'date'. What did you see? Did you find a good toy box?

C's mumma, well E came up with the goods for Daddy while he was home, after not pooing for 6 days...hehehe I was lying in bed this morning and I could hear him next door changing E's nappy saying how full it was and then he's shouting "Quick, H, bring me more wipes!" apparently she let rip with a megapoo while he had her nappy off ! High five, Bettybums!

Ok, better go I"m supposed to be converting last night's taco mince into some sort of nutritious and tasty casserole for dinner tonight, better hop to it!

    s to all our ladies!

MD - That's great that she saved up her big poo for Daddy!! lol!! I'll ask the family about Ikea, I hadn't heard that, I know they are planning DFO in Fyshwick.

Silly me - remembered today my sister was in Sydney for a wedding yesterday, should have seen if she was going past Ikea.

26 weeks is spot on 6 months - just counted.

We've just got the Heinz baby basics sipper cup - the small on. DD loves it, will chew on it for 30 mins or so at a time. I put a little bit of water in it, not sure how much she swallows, she's usually pretty wet afterwards!!

hi ladies! quick post from me. so sorry i haven't been posting. been trying to keep up with what's happening with everyone though and reading whenever i can. anyway, we're off for our holiday tomorrow. am so excited coz' it's the first time my family gets to meet max. am just so looking forward to showing her off.
just a note on going to solids. chn last friday suggested a different approach to going to solids....i think it's called baby led weaning....more ideal for breast fed than formula fed apparently....and instead of mashing food....you start off with big bits (i.e. whole peach) which the bub can gnaw on him/herself and he/she will stop eating when he/she is full....rather than mum shovelling the food into their mouth. i think there are websites that can expound on this. just thought i'd share this with everyone in case anyone's interested.
doubt if i'll be online while on holiday (need to use the time to shop and catch up on goss with my sisters......oooohhhhh i can see a lot of late nights!!!). so....

    HAPPY EASTER to everyone!!!
HAPPY HALF YEAR to all the bubs that have reached their 6th month birthday!!!
enjoy your holidays and travel safe to anyone and everyone who's going away for easter and before or after!!!

    catch you in april!

Hayley, *hugs* hope Maddie gets better soon. Poor bubba

Cally, I weaned him from his wrap about a month ago. Tough at first, but getting better now. On cold nights, I put him in sleeping bags but not during the day.

    Leanne, enjoy your vacation!

Katie, I always refer to 'my friend(s)'

MD, good to hear you had a nice weekend. Have fun in Adelaide! Btw, I put my FDC application a while ago but everytime I followed it up they told me to call in April because we'll need care for May. A bit strange, I thought I can start interviewing people.

Charlimum & MD, LOL at saving the big thing for daddy

Arte, love the photo. He looks like a big boy already and the mountain looks so tranquil. LOL at the nappy time. I usually ask him to hold his clean nappy to avoid his hands get dirty. Sounds like he is doing really well.

Renee, dinner and movies - sounds great

Noni, GL with the house, hope you get it

Fianne, how exciting. Enjoy your holiday and have a wonderful time with your family!

I think I mentioned earlier that W refused EBM and solids. I didnt expect we'll be having problem with solids after reading that the other babies in this thread like their foods. He shut his mouth everytime I offered him food.
Fianne, I also read about the baby led weaning and was thinking about giving it a go.

Fianne and Aglinra, I think we are going to try the baby led weaning approach because DS will happily snatch food off us and start chewing on it but clamps his mouth shut if I try to shovel in puree. Twice at restaurants he has made a grab for the garlic bread and loves to suck on a piece of it. I would have thought the garlic taste would be too strong for him but I guess not.

Noni, good luck for the house. My DH would love his ironing done but I refuse to do it. I don't iron my clothing and don't see why it should be up to me to iron his. Then he gets in a big sulky and tries to do it himself but it is a pitiful attempt aimed at making me feel guilty (which I don't lol)

Aglinra, I have tried getting him to hold the new nappy/a wipe for me but his doodle is more interesting lol I am worried I will have the kid at kindy that is always standing with his hands down his pants

Fianne, yay for getting to show off Max to your family! So exciting. We are going to see DH's family over easter who haven't seen Will since he was 6 weeks old so I am quite excited about that.

Haley, hope Maddie is feeling better now

After having a great saturday we had a really dumb sunday. We left the house at 8am, got an hour down the road and remembered something we had to go home to get, Will woke up and didn't want to be in the car seat so we had to keep stopping to settle him. DH got a speeding ticket. A 2.5 hour trip took us 5 hours. Then we couldn't find the disc in storage to set up my mums new computer so the whole trip was pointless. Then we had yet another fight on the way home (in the first 10 minutes and spent the rest of the trip in silence).

have mothers group today.. its the last one at the community centre so we will be going out to lunch afterwards.. yum cha apparantly, never had it, dnt know how ww friendly it is but after kfc TWICE this week i spose it dosnt really matter lol oops..
Asha is getting better at manovering herself around the floor, what age are they supposed to crawl though? like up on hands and knees? idk how close she is to that...
arte - i think dp genuinly believes he cant iron lol but i cant be sure.. ive heard him try when he had to get up really early for an interview thatwas far away and it was too early to wake me to do it and there was alot of swearing and stomping lol he tends to iron more creases into the shirt then there was when he started and then he gets really frustrated and upset so now i am doing it for him (he actually said once he should take it to his mums to iron which was when i said for gods sake i will do it lol like she dosnt have better things to do than iron his sons clothes lol) but still one night off would be nice ut when i say i dnt wanna do it he is all like "but you said u would thats not fair" and gets all sulky and angry thats whats annoying lol..
agnes - maybe W just isnt ready for solids yet.. and dont worry if hes not as interested as some of the other bubs alot of bubs take ages to get used to food, its a completely new sensation just take it slow and steady.. and like some other ppl have sugested maybe let him suck or chew on a piece of fruit??
fianne - did she say what age it was ok to give them a big bit of something? asha loves to chew on the mesh bag i got her filled up with apple but i am worried if i give her a whole piece of something she will just shove it right down her throat lol..

Hi everyone, woo hoo no work for me today! Keeping Maddie home, she is definately getting better but I just want to give her an extra day or two to put the final kick on this horrible thing. Besides cant take them to daycare sick, its not fair on the other bubbas.

Jazmum - I finally got a vapouriser for Maddie, and it works so well. We needed one anyway with winter approaching and being in daycare.

Cmumma - You are definately very lucky to have nanna to spoil Charli while you work. My mum is so desperate to chuck in her work so she can do the same, but my dad isnt ready to retire ( they work together)

Noni - Have a great time at mums group. Yum cha is good. I saw a little movie on FB of a bubba crawling at 6 1/2 months so watch out, but generally I think its 7-8 months? Actually dont go by what I say because I dont have a clue lol. Good luck with the house, how exciting!!! Big tip with the ironing, I hate ironing, I just throw everything into the dryer with the wrinkle guard on lol.

Arte - Oh no sorry to hear about your dumb Sunday! Hope you have made up now. Wow a bubba with garlic breath hehehe.

Agnes - I have been having a bit of trouble lately with Maddie shutting her mouth at certain foods too. I thought she'd love pumpkin but no she doesnt want it. All she wants is rice ceral, boring!

Fianne - Have a great time and an excellent easter with your fam!

Cally - Thats good that Katie is actually taking some water, I have problems with getting Maddie to take some.

MD - Woo hoo for your ebay bargains! I also got a bargain on ebay over the w/end, a baby monitor for $20 incl postage! Its just a plain one with no special features, but its only for when we are outdoors as its a pain running up to the back door every 5 mins to listen for crying. Love ebay.

Sherie - Hope you & your family are doing well.

I heard on the news today that the Govt is introducing a 50% rebate on childcare in the new financial yr, currently it is 30%. That would be SO good, just hope they dont find a way to means test it. Also the baby bonus is apparently going up to $5000 too. Woo hoo! About time they gave us something, something has to give with all these rate rises.

Sorry everyone, I can feel a long one coming on!

Fianne, I was having a chat with an ABA counsellor this morning who had just seen Gill Rapley (the Baby Led Weaning Lady) give her talk at a conference last week. I've read all about it now, and think I will incorporate some but not all of it. The key messages are baby must be sitting upright and watched very carefully. I think I mentioned the other day about giving DD1 finger foods pretty early on and TBH she was hopeless at eating off a spoon but did the finger foods really well so I can see how it makes sense. The other thing is that this has really only been done with breastfed babies. Their jaws and tongues etc are better for this sort of eating than bottlefed babies. So what I'm going to do is introduce rice cereal, and low-food-chemical fruits/veges for the first month (only in small quantities, to get her gut used to dealing with food), and then start trying her on bits of family foods and see how she goes with it.

Hayley well done with your ebay monitor. BTW, don't fret if Hayley doesn't like certain foods, just keep offering them (maybe sandwiched between a mouthful of something she likes before and afterwards) and when she's ready she will take it. Also it can help if you just give them a bowl with some of the food in it and just let them squish it and play with it because some will get on her fingers and go in her mouth that way. Ummm I should have said that to Agnes the other day !

C'smumma - good to hear you've got a happy baby with her nanny! I wish I had someone like that, that's why we do FDC, it's the next best thing.

BTW Jazmum and Hayley, what sort of vaporisers did you get? We've got one out in the shed but it's this big grey scary looking thing and it's also quite noisy and it puts out too much steam...bought it in a panic after H had croup one time.

Noni you will have to tell us about the yum cha, I've never been but friends of mine rave about it and DH and I have always said we should go! Have the m's group made a plan to keep meeting?

BTW, I must be the odd one out here. DH does MY ironing (!) Well a lot of the time anyway. Did I tell you the moment i first met him, he opened the door and there he was standing, with his shirt off and broom in hand(!) Bom chicka wah wah! ROFL I knew then I'd met the wife I always wanted

Renee, funny you should mention teething, she's twice had a gush of clear snot (TMI but it screams 'teething') followed by a red behind, so I think it's on the cards. She was really unsettled at bedtime last night, I gave her panadol (and eleven million boob feeds) and two hours later she was asleep and was pretty settled for the rest of the night.

Cally - thanks for doing my maths for me! We must get together when it's tax time, you can do me a couple of spreadsheets LOL! Does your Heinz cup have handles?

Arte - LOL at garlic bread! E nearly had pink half-birthday cake frosting as her first food, DH wasn't watching her while I took a photo of her with her cake! Bummer about your rotten day.

I'm missing Sherie - darl where are you, what's happening at yours?

Agnes, would you consider trying W in care for a couple of weeks before you have to start, just to get him accustomed to it? That gives you an excuse to ask the FDC office to give you some names a bit earlier. Re the doodle holding - better that he gets it over and done with early, I reckon. There are some men who must've not been allowed to play when they were little (I won't mention any names but those cricketers seem to like the rub their crotches a lot on telly ROFL).

Well like I mentioned, I was at ABA this morning, starting to know some of the ladies a bit better . There were a few kids there which was good for E to get used to their noise and sudden movements...she didn't do any stranger danger crying at all (phew)...I've been a bit worried about how she'll tolerate groups of ppl cos we've pretty much stayed at home for six months. Wonder how that will go with the family gatherings next week...
