BS - There's just no predicting what Liam will do with his feeds. Yesterday it felt like he barley fed at all, each time I offered him the breast he just started whinging and crying, and would only settl (oops, there he is now.....) where was I. Yep, I'd put home down in his vibrating chair with a dummy and all was well. Plenty of pooey nappies though, so I'm not worried.
Alison - I meant to ask if your OB said anything about your line, I still have mine too. I'm hoping it goes away, it looks like I have a snail trail from a distance!
Suz - We're having immunisations today too. I hope Ryan's not to shocked by it all! Liam spewed down between my boobs yesterday while I was out having lunch with Mum, it's a delightful sensation isn't it.
AFM - Immunisation day today. I hope Liam doesn't feel too unwell afterwards, but I'm hoping the reports of a monster sleep are true, I really am ready for a whole night off! I don't know if my boobs would handle it though, even with a 3:30am feed when I wake up in the morning they're leaking all over the place.
I'm waiting by the phone to hear from DH, he came home so excited, the job is exactly what he wants, they have heaps of work and the opportunity is there for him to move into a supervising/management role which is what he's looking for. The money's better than his current job too, and we'd be able to get rid of the stupid work car he has that he's only allowed to drive to and from work. He has his own ute, so we really don't need three cars. He'll find out one way or the other today. Please please please Universe!
Hi Sesame - oooh good luck for DH, I'll cross everything I possibly can (without doing a hammy etc) for him The OB was so funny about the line down my tummy, he got all excited and said how he loves seeing that line still there hee hee - he said it can take up to 6 months to fade, depends on the person really. Mine's still quite prominent, it's not all the way now and has almost gone on the top of my tummy but from halfway down it's still quite dark.
Hi Suz - I wish I could take the mini pill as I too hate condoms but with me missing the odd BF here and there I can't afford to risk it and I can't take the full pill as I'm still BF'ing!
AFM - Amelia slept 9 hours last night, wa hoo! I'm sure it won't last but after the last few being 6.5 hours it's as nice change. We did have a big day yesterday though and she was grumpy as last night, she was not herself at all and was very whingey and took a little while to fall asleep but she ended up going down eventually but missed her last feed. I was expecting her to wake up at 3.00 am hungry but nope! I am having problems BF'ing though, the first morning feed is great but for the rest of the day she's pulling off my boob........I don't know if it's because I have no milk or because she's gotten too used to the bottle, she's not even interested if I put the shields on....or could be a combo of both, I don't know what to do it's really stressing me out!!! I don't want to give up BF'ing altogether. One of the girls in mothers group is having the same problem as me so she can only feed her baby her milk if she expresses it into a bottle - she also does formula feeds. I feel so annoyed you know, I don't formula feed because I want to but I just have to as I've not got enough milk. I'm wondering if it's time to go on the drugs to get the milk back? I can see my boobs getting smaller by the day and I'm not ready to give up bigger boobs yet as I'm small chested so have enjoyed having a C cup for a change! lol
Alison - Don't pull a hammy! It'd would be so hard to look after Amelia! Why don't you try ringing the ABA about your supply, they might have some helpful suggestions. They're number is 1800 mum2mum, I called them a while back when I was having some problems with Liam attaching and they were fantastic, plus you don't need to be a member to call. I'm sure you'll be able to work it out with a little perserverance. If it's any consolation, I'd kill to have your small boobs. My DD's don't fit into a lot of my
old clothes, anything low cut is completely out of the question!
AFM - I finally got around to pulling out the ring sling I bought on eBay. I'd tried putting Liam in it a couple of times but I couldn't work out how to get him in properly. One of the Mums at the hospy exercise class had one, and it inspired me to try again. I did some you tubing to find a video, and viola! I have a sleeping baby in a comfy ring sling. Loving it. Only thing is we have to go for our immunisations in an hour, and he hasn't had a feed since 7am, so I think I might have to wake him. My doctor is notoriously late, and I don't want to be sitting in a waiting room with a screaming baby.
Argh - I haven't been getting notifications, so I'm way, way behind.
Alison - That's scary about the infection. Was it a MRSA infection?
Liam had his vaccinations this week. Poor little guy was grumpy when we went to the doc since we had to wake him up from a nap. Our GP is wonderful and he was all happy and gooing - and then he got his jabs. I don't think I've ever heard him cry like that He was really unsettled for the rest of the day, crying loudly on and off in between short naps. He also wouldn't feed much. But when we finally got him down for the night, he zonked out and only woke up once overnight. Thankfully the next day he was back to normal and happy and smiling.
He's actually been really good lately - he still feeds frequently during the day (anywhere from 1-2 hours in between feeds usually, and he only feeds for 5-10 minutes each time - one of the benefits of oversupply and overactive letdown!), but he's been only waking a couple of times overnight to feed and settling down quickly each time.
Yesterday he decided to break with this pattern - he spent the day sleeping for an hour, waking to feed (and feed for a long time for him) and then sleeping again. He did have one long period where he was awake and playing, though. Then he woke every 1-2 hours overnight to feed. I'm guessing it's a growth spurt. He's been feeding frequently this morning, too, but has finally just gone down for a nap. I don't have a problem with his frequent feeds, though - I'm happy to let him decide what he needs and when he needs it.
I finally got around to buying myself a proper breastfeeding pillow (My Brest Friend) - I am amazed at how much more comfortable it makes feeding. I have back issues, and using normal pillows always gave me pain. This is perfectly comfy - and I can actually feed hands free, which is novel. Damn, I wish I'd bought one ages ago.
Had an awesome mail day, too - got some more cloth nappies (yay for sales!) including a Bambooty to try, and some baby carriers - two mei tais, a ring sling and a peanut shell. I think DH is going to revoke my credit card soon I've tried Liam in one of the met tais (a Catbird Baby) and he was happy as anything in it. He loves being cuddled upright, and it's super comfy to wear for me, even wit my dodgy back.
Now I've written an essay I hope you're all doing well - I'll try to actually post here more often.
Sesame, so excited for DH! As for the major sleep, Eva def had one. After her vaccines she was a bit weakish so was grumpy when we handled her too much and then went down for a massive sleep with only one waking in the night (this was before she started sleeping better and she would wake up 3-4 times a night...). I am sure Liam will be just fine
Rose, wow, you got a ton of slings! Will you use them all? I have one but I find it sort of hard to use since it has way too mucgh fabric (Babylonia Tri cotti) and my eva like to look around and not be all swaddled...can you recommend a good sling that is less stifling from your arsenal???
Suz, I understand you decision on the mini pill - I slao do not want to get pregnant until Eva is at least a year, so I prefer that...Then afterwards, whatever happens happens.
Not much news here, Eva still sleeping well in her room. My good friend who had the baby around the same time came over yesterday so I took some pictures of her baby for her and I posted two of Eva and her daughter. They are leaving to her parents' house for a month and a half and we were saying how the girls will be so DIFFERENT in 6 weeks!
I am off to exercise a bit (my body is so sore from the physio yesterday - it was more iintense than training with a trainer!). So a bit of slow eliptical for me today then I would love to get some stuff done around the house (fingers crossed for that). And I am so happy it is friday! That means I get DH around for the weekend. I miss seeing him all day - we used to work with our desks next to each other in the office and now I only see him in the morning, for lunch and in the evening. I love weekends since we get to hang out and he helps me a lot with the baby
Hi Rose - I'm tempted to try the my breast friend pillow. I've found the tetra one pretty good but I think its a bit high. But Matilda does love to crash out on it after a feed. Sounds like Liam reacted to the vaccinations in a similar way to Matilda - very unsettled!! Thank god they're only ever now and then!!
Hi Alison - Sesame's suggestion about calling the ABA is a really good idea. Supply issues can usually be worked out from what I've heard. I looked into breast refusal a bit when Matilda was going through a rough patch and pulling off all the time. As usual there seemed to be a myriad of reasons that can cause it and often difficult to pin point, but it more than often passes. Its very frustrating and tiring when they're on and off.
Hi Sesame - good luck with the immunisations. Different babies react so differently from what I'm gathering from everyone else's comments. And yay for the sling. I've got my fingers crossed that your DH's job works out!
Hi BS - I can definitely recommend the fit ball to bounce on. It saves you walking the halls! I put mine infront of a table with the thousands of soft toys Matilda's been given and she loves to look at them while I bounce with her over my shoulder. You really must be missing DH. I've had DH home with me for 4 months and its been really, really nice and I'm dreading him starting work again.
Hi Suz - poor little Ryan. Isn't it awful seeing them that upset. Its like someone sticks a knife into you and then twists it for good measure. Woohoo on DTD.
Hi Carmey - creepy, creepy, creepy about the prank caller. Did you go up and see you're mum? Hope it wasn't too wet. We haven't planned the christening/name day yet. We should have done something on our trip to Perth in a couple of weeks but we just haven't been able to get our act together. Maybe on the next trip in May.
Perth girls - I'm going to be in Perth from 18th Feb to 2 March so if anyone is up for a Perth BB catch up let me know. I can't wait. DH has a martial arts thingy and a good friend of mine is getting married so it times in really well. I don't know how I'll go with the heat after a couple of years in Hobart!!
Hi everyone else! Hope you're all keeping well.
AFM - It's been a busy few days. MatiIlda has really started to settle down again (with a big thanks going to BS for her burping tip!). It has been blissful to have a happier baby. And she's engaging so much more. We have quite the conversations these days. I'm also starting to think that babies are designed for a nomadic life. We did another day trip today out to MT Field National Park and she slept and slept in the car, woke up for the forest walk, fed well and back to sleep in the car. But is anyone's bub grunting during the night? In the early hours of the morning Matilda has been grunting and farting and tossing and turning and its impossible to sleep through!! I've been trying to burp her better before bed time but my mum tells me I was the same . If it keeps up I think she'll have to go into her own room! Oh and it looks like there might be a couple of job opportunities for DH in Sydney. He's going up this week to check it all out. And I've got Matilda's god mother flying over from Albany to keep us company. Can't wait to see her!!!
Tilda - A Perth meetup while you're here sounds awesome Liam has periods at night (usually towards the morning) when he's really noisy while he's sleeping. DH can sleep through it no problem, but it wakes me up. We have friends who couldn't sleep with their bub in the room with them because of that reason and had him in his own room pretty much from day one. You have to do what works for you and lets you get sleep, ultimately.
BS - I'll definitely be using all of the slings. I love wearing Liam so much You might like to try a mei tai or a similar structured carrier - if Eva has good head control you don't need one with a head rest and she can look around. If you look at something like the Catbird Baby mei tais and pikkolo, you can also use them in a forward facing front carry, so she can see everything. If you go and look at thebabywearer, you can read through bunches of reviews and find something that you like. I warn you, it can get damn addictive though!
suz - The mei tai is based on Asian baby carriers - it basically holds the baby onto you kind of like a backpack, and you can carry on your front or back.
AFM - Liam is napping (as much as he does in the late afternoon/early evening - he tends to be restless and fight sleep a lot at this time of the day) after spending another day pretty much just feeding and sleeping. I'm definitely thinking that it's a growth spurt.
