Cherished: 2-3 hourly is tough babe but it is funny how we sometimes just manage to work with it! i have to say that i am dealing alot better with the sleep deprivation this time around (even though marta is waking a lot more often than Leila). and tell me about those toothpicks lol. the last week or so, i can't even remember getting up..only realising that i must of as DD is lying beside me fast asleep and i have a boob out . that always freaks me out lol.
HPL: like the others have mentioned there is no need to give them farex at all! i bought a packet of the bellamy's organic rice cereal just to see if she is interested. if she wasnt then i give it to DD1 on her cereal but in all honesty it is totally not necessary, they can start on a much nicer range of foods...
Muminalice: how you going babe?
AFM: we are chugging along nicely. Marta is (finally!) managing to work out how to roll front to back. she was doing it the other day, but then forgot how to do it but just today has mastered it again. that this is it lol! the poor girl gets so frustrated lol.
yesterday we went out and bought a sofa bed thingy from the King furniture sale...talk about feeling like the 'doing it all wrong' kinda mum. I was one of 'those' mums that has the feral 3 year old trying to jump on all the furniture and take all the price signs of the stand . then just when i had managed to corral her onto DHs lap, marta does a HUGE poo and vomits ARRGHHHH! all the while the poor bloke serving us was trying hard to just get us out of there OMG i was just sooo frazzled, it was a hot day and it was late in the afternoon...what were we thinking??!!! ah well, we got the couch, put the signs back and hightailed it outta there lol.
Cherished - that link for the recipes - is it "wholesome baby foods"? if not, can you pm me the link too please?
Cass - DD also rolled front to back the other day, and hasn't been able to do it since! LOL!
AFM - well, I'm not dreary-dumps like I was the other day, we have just had the most horrible week - it seemed all dd did was cry. Do they have another growth spurt about now? Today whe was much better - I actually got to use my sewing machine (I had been trying this for 3 weeks!)
we decided at the 11th hour to pack the girls in the car and go to the werribee open range zoo. was the BEST! went on a safari thingo, then had lunch beside meerkats, then did some digging for 'bones' at one of the playgrounds. Marta just ate sand while Leila and i were paleantologists lol.
Marta also ate half a peach! haha! we were sitting at our friend's house for a playdate with her kids and as i was chatting away Marta reached over to the fruit plate, picked up a piece of peach and ATE IT sooo funny! she had her hot little fist clenched really hard around it (to stop mama from trying to steal it lol) and was sucking away like there was no tomorrow lol.
Hi ladies,
I need to de-brief. We just had our first real tantrum (well, I know it's not a tantrum because she is a baby, but I mean a big long loud scraming crying sobbing sniff-sniff-sniff-sniff episode).
It was my fault really. We were meant to be going out for dinner with friends (yes meant to, we didn't make it). I knew she needed a feed and a sleep, but I was rushing trying to get me ready, and I thought I could hang off for the feed, to just before we left, and then she could sleep in the car. But I left it too late, and then tried to quickly get her dressed, and it was all over. Half an hour of solid crying. First we rang our friends and said order for us, we'll be late. Then we rang them to say sorry, can't come. She was just too distressed, and I knew that even if she quitened in time, it was still too much for her.
I feed disappointed, because:
1. I was looking forward to dinner out - no cooking and adult conversation as well as catching up with our friends
2. it was completely avoidable and all my fault
3. I upset my poor little poppet
We were able to calm her, I stripped off and held her skin to skin while rocking her, and then gave her a bath, where after settling her and have her smile, I promptly bumped her head and made her cry again
I just hate seeing her cry, and to think it was my fault.
Milly my love you poor thing... I totally understand what you were feeling!! It would have been wonderful to have had an adult conversation and of course you were trying to do the best for everyone and it just went upside down and round and round lol don't feel too bad I posted a little while ago that I dropped a book on bubbas head.. All I wanted to do was read her a story and I end up really hurting her... I felt soooooo bad!!!
cass: So glad you guys had a great day!! Sounds lovely!! WooHoo Marta on the peach!! hehehe
AFM: New job starting Monday YAY so very excited!! Oz day we went up to Mooloolaba and spent the day at the beach with some great friends!! Bubs first visit to the beach and she LOVED it was so happy... We bought her a new hat and new rashi to wear over her togs, she looked so cute!! I was a very over protective mother tho, I think I applied suncreen about 10times lol!! She was soooo slimy but I didn't want to chance her getting burnt!! Not much else happening really, oh actually yes there is Bubs had some solids the other day, is slowly getting it, but still has the toungue thrust thing going on, but as they say "food is fun until they are one' !!!
I just had to tell someone and thought I'll post on here coz nonone actually knows us and it would be that embarressing!!
DF and I were a bit naughty this morning, we were enjoying some couple time while bubs was asleep and well things kinda heated up and before too long we were DTD, no biggie right? That was until we realized while cuddling that we didn't use protection and I'm not on the pill!! LMAO - I know breastfeeding reduces the chances on falling pregnant and I haven't had AF since before I was pregnant with Audrey....
We both laughed thinking what if, but then we kinda got worried what if??? Chances are so slim and with my history even slimer but oh god What If!!!!!!
Time will only tell - hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!!
oh HPL...we are in the same 'boat' lol. we have been a bit norti and have risked it a few times. ahhhhhh! need to get better organised. we have protection (condoms et al) but they are all in the bedroom and for some reason we tend to not be in there when the moment takes us ).
Milly: massive squishy hugs gorgeous we have had those moments...of having to say 'we can't' because of bubs. man it stings. i remember only recently missing a seminar on waterbirth because we couldnt get a sitter in time for DD1...i was so devastated. BUT tbh, those moments are really really rare and no reflection of how things will be from now on ITMS. some days are just crazy and it's such a massive learning curve for everyone. and who knows, she might of not been able to deal with waiting that night, but then another night no problemo...sometimes there is no picking it
oh and HPL: good luck for tomorrow babe!
AFM: well, we braved a baby store today lol. had to buy Marta a highchair and Leila was getting peeved that we were using her chair lol. so we got her the same as Leila (stokke tripp trapp). love love love it! we got her a lime green one with a blue baby set and cool stripy covers she looks so funky in it!
also ordered some new front wheels for the bugaboo. after almost 4 years of daily use they are really worn down. but man they hit you hard: $70 a wheel . ah well, i am a bug fan so will do it lol.
Marta's latest food obsession is banana. i have been peeling half a banana and handing it to her...man she makes light work of it
hi girls. Just wanted to quickly drop in and let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth or anything. I'm just depressed with what's going on in my life right now. Still dnt' know what's happening on the job front or if we will move and finances are stressful. DS is great which is a huge bonus as his health is the most important thing but dh and I aren't connecting that well I feel lost and not sure where my life is going. You all know we wanted to ttc ASAP... well now it is really looking like DS will be an only child and that alone is really upsetting me
Cass what re the new laws on home birth now? I didn't follow it too much as we had a hospital birth but I am considering it for the next one IF there is a next one. And do you need to buy an actual birthing pool or would a corner spa bath be ok? What about hygiene with the jets etc? I imagine they would need to be cleaned properly? Also how much did your midwife cost? Also about the banana Marta is eating. I hope I'm not overstepping the boundries here but when we had our 6 week community health nurse mothers group thingo we had a paramedic come in to teach us some basic 1st aid and also chat with us about the most common things they get called out for when it comes to babies and toddlers. He said the most common food for babies to choke on is banana and it's really hard to get out of their throat. The size of the banana (as in how round it is) is the perfect size to wedge in their throat and the texture of the banana is thick, slimy and gluggy therefore hard to get out if it's stuck kwim. Anyway he said to make sure banana is fully mashed up and not clumping together at all at least until they are older and have teeth and are munching/chewing food pretty well before swallowing.
HPL your dare devil you! You're right it's unlikely you re pg there is 5% chance so I think you are safe Having said that my mum got pregnant when my brother was 6 weeks old with twins after DTD once so it can happen
milly that sucks about your dinner out! I've been caught thinking I can leave it even 5 mins but I've found out that when he wants a feed I only have about 5 mins sometimes and then he's over hungry. Same with being tired if I leave it too long he'll be really tired and then it's a mission to get him to sleep. Have you been on your sewing machine at least and chilling out making some good stuff?
Well we hadn't bought a high chair yet and luckily we didn't cause dh kept saying that someone will give us one. I didn't know who but yesterday we were offered one so YAY now I don't have to spend any money. And they are giving us a portacot too which is something else we were just saying that we would like as we are thinking of going camping when ds is 5.5 months just before we start him on solids. So that will be at the start of March. Yesterday we went to a flood relief concert and got sun burnt I've been racking my brain trying to think of how it happened as i put suncream on DS but his nose and cheeks got a little pink. I feel HORRIBLE and like such a bad mummy it's not too bad nothing like my arms and chest as I didn't have anything on. But we were under a tree the entire time and when not under the tree DS had the shade thingo on the pram. So finally this morning I think I know what went wrong. When DS feeds he sweats like crazy and i have a cloth over my arm which his head rests on. Well I think it must have rubbed off onto the cloth and my boob and therefore left his exposed. My lesson in all this is reapply sunscreen, always put up shade tent even if we are under a tree and put the hat on DS including baby bnads even though they are both still way too big for him. Better to be readjusting them all time instead of getting sun burnt.
Milly that website is wholesome baby foods

: Note to milly
I haven't been on BB much this year. It's been pretty busy with going back to work and all.
I work for a global insurer . And they are centralising a lot of services interstate so my job along with 70 or so others is being made redundant.
We were told a couple of months back, but the bastardos will not tell us an end date so we've been left hanging. We're guestimating around late March at this stage. So everything is kind of up in the air at the moment, and just a little wee bit stressful
Little man is going sooo well. He's quite placid (polar opposite to DD hehe) and he has such a gorgeous little personality.
He's getting into the swing of daycare but a friend of ours has just moved back to SEQ and she is a family daycare mum and we're considering sending the kids to her instead of a childcare centre. Hmmmwhat to do what to do . . .
Sorry for selfish post guys. Hope all is well for everyone

sorry have been MIA we have been super duper busy and then the last couple of days have been stressful with the cyclone and all that jazz (my mum is up in townsville). but i am back in action lol!
Cherished: it sounds like such a difficult and tumultous time. i am with you on feeling really wrecked emotionally when you dont know where you are going to be or what you are going to be doing. it really does build up alot of pressure xx try to be really gentle on yourselves and dont feel that you all need to make any hard and fast decisions right now about your family...things are just too stressful to make good and informed decisions IYKWIM. you and DH will reconnect again. stress is a mega mojo killer and is insidious as it makes everyone extra tired and cranky, but remember it is not a sign of how things are ITMS, you guys will get through this, one thing that i have noticed over the last year and a bit is the connection that you and DH have. it will be strong enough
thanks for the info on the banana! i read up on it after you mentioned it (on BLS blogs etc) and it would seem that there are conflicting approaches (who da thought ). i guess what i will do is just monitor closely for now. i have mashed it up for her as well as she seems to like it...it's just that she really prefers to hold a slice lol.
MamaS: oh man! to be left hanging like that!! do you have any plans for after the redundancy...any plan B? the family daycare does sound lovely...if you think it could work, i would opt for that! smaller numbers and all that jazz. of course, being a friend though it will take some consideration as you dont want to find yourself in a situation where you might not be able to feel like you can say no/complain etc etc. BUT family daycare just sounds soooo lovely...
HPL: are ya UTD lol??!!
AFM: well as i mentioned we have been so busy. had a lovely daytrip to ocean grove to swim at the beach. marta loved the swim! she "oohhhhed" and "aahhhhhed" everytime the waves washed over her legs and feet and she kicked like crazy lol. although the sand eating was *interesting* lol.
i am riding on a high lately too as Marta has had 2 nights in a row of sleeping through . in shock lol. no doubt it is a passing phase, but i have been enjoying it lol.
she also enjoyed our sushi night out the other night. she only had a bit of rice and a cucumber stick to munch on but she loves it! i think what she likes is hanging out with us at the table and "sharing" lol!
thought i would share a pic of here in her highchair loving up the food: Marta pics!
(ok, being a mama i couldnt choose one...so ya'll have got dumped with them all )
Cass I can imagine there's loads of different opinions... yep who'd of thought lol We intend to do baby lead solids and are really looking forward to it, DS has been interested in watching us eat for a while now but in the last week I think he's been grabbing a bit so can't wait to be able to give it to him especially half a kiwi fruit as he loves eating dh's hairy arm LOL so we think he'll really like it I think it's just the banana that the paramedic was concerned about due to the consistency on it as it's slimy once it has slobber on it and can slip down their throat easily and the width of it is the perfect size to wedge and get stuck. Anyway normally I wouldn't mention such a thing but seeing it came up thought I'd better.
The beach sounds great! and the sand eating would have been tasty for Marta too lol. Iv'e noticed that at our MG DS is the only one left with that white baby skin. All the other bubs have started to get yellowish skin due to seeing the sun. We've kept DS pretty covered up apart from his face which got burnt the other day which is now starting to look more matured too. It was a bit sad when I realised that he was loosing that real baby look my little boy isn't so little anymore!
Thanks for your kind words about dh and I. I think I'm in extra shock at what is happening due to how wonderful things have always been! There is still a REALLY big elephant in the room which we are ignoring. I'm just not sure how things will be in a few years time if they stay like this as it'll only get worse if we don't make an effort. He doesn't want to leave so that's a good thing but I think he's only staying because of DS
MamaS I didn't know you were in SEQ, where abouts? I think family daycare sounds great! That sucks about your job!
I sooo can't believe how grown up Marta is looking Cass. She has always appeared to me as being very advanced for her age (well from what I can see in FB pic's anyway ) She looks to have great head control and is sitting really well in her high chair. Looks like she's doing great with solids too. Brock doesn't seem to be really interrested in solids yet. As for after the redundancy, well I'll be looking for another job worse luck. I would much rather be able to focus on going to full-time uni instead of working, but unfortunately we need a second income.
Cherished, I'm not sure exactly whats going on with your DH and you ATM but all I can say is that earlier posts from you reflect such a beautiful and deep relationship between you and he (TBH I used to feel a little jealous It just seemed like your DH was so generous and caring.) I guess what my point is, is that if anyone can get through a rough patch, I think you guys can . My Dh and I are going through a bit of a rough patch too atm.
Oh, BTW I'm on the Gold Coast
Thanks MamaS. You're right and we do still have a deep relationship and he is still a wonderful husband and especially a super dooper unbelievably fantastic dad. We are just not connecting like we used to. Nothing on the surface would suggest that but it's more our inner connection iykwim. I guess when bub came along we didn't have time to connect like we used to. During the pg as you all know we spent so much time just laying together connecting and loads of physical touch and talking. I can't imagine we are the only ones who have ever experienced something like this, I imagine it's pretty common. Maybe we are feeling it so much more because we were so very close before DS was born. We still feel a huge family bond and are hanging out together all the time but that is a different kind of connection.
I forgot to mention last night that I saw my boss yesterday and was supposed to call him to organise a time next week to chat about returning to work. DH said I could extend my maternity leave so that I'd get a full 12 months off. So I'd be going back in August. We are going to be on the bones of our AR$$ and going 'backwards at a rapid rate' but at least we'll be happy(ish). This will also mean that another baby is off the cards. Not only because of our relationship connection at the moment but also financially it may be a while before we are in front again and then we'd need to save money again so that I could take time off again for the next baby so I'm thinking it will be 2-3 years away I think I'm going to have to just come to terms with how things are and be GRATEFUL for everything that I do have. And that is a supportive husband (not matter what's going on) and an absolutely beautiful baby boy.
MamaS: what would you be studying? i hear you on the second income...we are really starting to feel the pinch now. i have been out of paid work for 2.5 years now and it's starting to get a bit boring lol. i just want to be able to spend a bit freely ITMS...
Cherished: i *think* i get where you are coming from. when DH and I had Leila i got PND, anyway, we were talking about the impact on our relationship from baby and the pnd and our psychologist noted that we probably felt our disconnect between eachother so acutely simply because we have always been so incredibly close. everything we did, we did it together. and now that baby had arrived that was just becoming a bit hard (well, def in the beginning). so instead of me following him around the world while he went to conferences i was left on the couch at home with a house to run and a baby to look after...as an example. i really thought that our marriage was over (as did he!). but we had so much love for eachother that the thought of not being together made us both feel sick, so we figured that there was a goal to reach and conquer in keeping it working ITMS. there were times where it wasnt easy or all that clear on how to do it, but i you guys will get there, i am confident. not that this makes the road that you have to travel easier, but just want to shout out that we're here for you in anyway we can
Big hello to HPL and Milly and Renson and Muminalice!!!
AFM: we are doing AOK ATM. Marta had her first 'sorta' day at creche on wednesday and thursday. i was with her the whole time lol. although on thursday DH made me leave her for 40 mins and took me to coffee. it felt really yuk! arghhh! i dont want her to go to creche yet!!! but i dont have much choice have to get the PhD handed in...boo hoo! why oh why couldnt i have finished it off before i had her??! why did i have to get sooo phat and tired cranky pg chick lol!
Hi Cass, Bachelor of Midwifery actually Yeah I've wanted to be a midwife since I was my SIL's birth support person 15 years ago (yup showing my age now, hehe) I've had an offer for BMid through ACU for the last 3 years in a row. I keep applying and praying for a miracle that I wont have to work, but then end up rejecting my offer at the last minute. I actually thought that perhaps this year I could start a bachelor of nursing externally to at least get the ball rolling then getting credits for certain subjects in BMid but with everything so up in the air work wise I don't know if i could do it. Plus I want to get a good GPA so want to be able to be dedicated to being able to spending a lot of time on study. Then when I finally do get an undergraduate done and dusted I'm actually slightly tempted to sit the UMAT and try to get into Med. Don't ask me where I'll get the time but I definately do have an interest in med too.
Whats your Phd in? What do you plan to do afterwards?
