We start talking about names the moment we decide its time to make a baby! So it can be quite a long process! We rarely agree on names but I'm the only one truly passionate about certain names, such as DD's. Hubby hated that name for a good 6 months then I noticed he didn't face palm me anymore when I mentioned it which I took as I sign I was making headway. Then he gradually warmed to it without overtly admitting he was, them when DD was born I must have looked such a wreak that the softy let me choose her name... And guess what I chose?!

So yeah, basically I sneakily manipulated my husband for months.

But now he's saying he gets to choose this bub's name. That was not part of the deal!

Firstly, I agree your DH's way is totally dumb!

I'm totally obsessed with names. For DS I whittled down an extremely long list to about 20 of both girls & boys names and put them in rough order of how much I liked them. DH of course refused to discuss names except to say he didn't like them (for no reason at all) or he knew someone who might have had that name 20 years ago . I had my favourite for both but he flat out refused to even consider them. I managed to convince him to agree that if I could have my fave boys name as the middle name, he could choose the first name from my list. He picked my number two name.

DD was a bit different. I gave him my long list and we both (separately) went through and picked the names we liked enough to seriously consider naming our child. We had about 10 girls names that we agreed on. Then we both put them in order of how much we liked them. We agreed on the top four funnily enough so from there we just tried each of them out until the right one fit. Again it was my number 2 name . We struggled with a boys name. DH wanted to have his name as the middle name but hated any name I suggested as a first name and I settled on one I didn't love. Luckily we didn't need it.
