NYBTC Food & Diet Chatter Week #2

Welcome to the New Years Body Transformation Challenge Food & Diet Chatter.

Feel free to keep track of your eating/diet, share tips and provide support here.

This weeks article is on Tips for Weight Loss

    This weeks MINI CHALLENGES are

    - prepare a new healthy meal that you've never done before (and then share the recipe with us mmmmmmm!)

    - Continue recording your food intake but in addition record an emotional diary as well. How you felt when you ate, how your day/week was going? Through recording this information you may be able to find a pattern to your bad eating habits!

Link to old thread found HERE

So how did everyone go with the challenges last week? Anyone fall off the wagon Is everyone still as motivated as last week?

No falling off the wagon for me. A few slip ups here and there (and handful of this, a little bit of that..)

Even DH said last night he felt that I had a "mind shift' in relation to this weight loss (in comparison to the few other times I have declared I am gonna lose weight.!

Yesterday was an odd day as I didn;t have brekkie (norti.)

    1.8l of water
    1 low fat iced coffee

3 small chunks of bread (morning tea at the park)

    2 KM shake
5 rice cakes (I was out late doing a gorocery shop and was STARVING)

So basically if I am disorganised, I have deparate slip ups, but if I am organised, my food intake is strictly to plan.

I am struggling to get the excersise I need. DH suggested last night an excersise bike or a treadmill for home, so I am going to investigate prices today. (I have a dread that a good one will be exy, and that a cheap one will be crappy.....so if anyone has any advice on this, let me know!)

    Hey Everyone!!

I've been a bit MIA lately, busy with my scuba diving course.. My food Diary for last week didnt end very well!! A lot of take away cause we were busy. So here goes for this week..

I have no idea what I had Monday....

    Tuesday
    Breakfast
    1 scrambled egg
    1 toast
    1 glass of milk

    Morning Snack
    Yogurt
    Apple

    Lunch
    Fried Rice
    Hot Dog

    Afternoon Snack
    hmm cant remember!!

    Dinner
    Chicken Burgers

    After Dinner Snack
    Almond Magnum (whoops!!)

    Wednesday
    Breakfast
    scrambled egg
    toast
    milk

    Morning Snack
    Yogurt
    Muesli bar

    Lunch
    Chicken, avacado and cheese melt

    Afternoon Snack
    Apple
    Kiwi Fruit

    Dinner
Steak with mashed potatoes, corn, carrot, califlower and broccoli

    After dinner snack
    small slice of cake

    Water
    Around 2 litres

I feel like I need to be eating more fruit and vegies in there! I am normally pretty good but money is a bit tight to go and get more fruit and vege. I am ALWAYS craving something sweet at the end of the day. I think that I need to give myself 1 treat per day, preferrably before some exercise so I can work it off.

Exercise has been great this week. I went to the gym Monday morning and did some cardio followed by abs and back/shoulder workout. Tuesday I went in and did cardio plus abs and arms workout and then I went to RPM in the evening. Today I have been in and done cardio plus abs and legs workout and I should really be going to BodyPump tonight but I walked into DH's dive bag and nearly broke my toes!

I just had to say I had the most gorgeous sandwich today for lunch. It was on dark rye bread and had roasted capsicum, roasted pumpkin, camberbet cheese, rocket, lettuce and a bit of sweet chilli sauce.. absolutely divine!!! I have never had pumpkin on a sandwich before and it was the best! And healthy ( I gather ) too!

    Unhappy mid week slump

Somehow since Monday I have put on 0.5kg!! I know I shouldn't be weighing in every day so I am trying not to be too down as it may go away again by next Monday. The past few days I have eaten more carbs (wholemeal pasta at dinner - but only with tuna and salsa which I thought would be low fat) so perhaps that's it.

Kazbah - I am taking on your attitude of each day being a new one!
Lea - Last weeks challenges - didn't do so great with exercise - managed 2X walks for at least 15mins but that was it! I did record all my eating. I still feel reasonably motivated but a bit disheartened by the apparent gain..... btw pumpkin seems really weird on a sandwhich but I agree that it's delish!
Mitch & Lucy - I also struggle finding time to exercise - I am working really long hours at the moment and when not at work am supposed to be finishing a thesis which is why I am home from work today Normally work 7:30am-ish to 6pm-ish and never feel like doing anything when I get home. It's going to continue like this for at least another month! I do have access to free gym machines @ work but it's a very male dominated environ and I must admit that I do feel a bit intimidated
Veronica - I hope your toes get better soon mate. Sounds like it was painful!

    hi guys

i have dug out my CSIRO total well being book, which i hadn't really looked at, and have been having the thai beef salad and morrocan lamb salad for dinner all week... and i am so not a salad person.... my partner agrees - they are both DELICIOUS. so that is my new healthy recipe challenge, done and dusted. if anyone wants the recipe let me know.

as for exercise i have been doing the couch to 5k run each day, instead of three times a week, as i am really hoping to see results.

advice goes that you only need to do measurements once a month, but two days ago i decided to record the measurement of my tummy, in a place where i knew i could measure again in the exact same place, so it would be accurate, i did it along my belly button and inline with the tattoo on my lower back which is at the same height.... after eating salads and running each day, i seem to have lost 3cm from my belly, in two days. i know im 99% accurate with the measuring.... not sure if this is possible?? maybe its fluid loss or something, who knows.... but im so pleased, as 10 months after giving birth to my daughter my stomach is still so big, i actually look about 5 months pregnant. so finally i see a little improvement and maybe, just maybe, i can achieve my goal of losing the fat.

my tummy actually feels smaller, which is why i was tempted to measure. please let it be due to loss of fat, not water!!

Kaz WEIGH YOURSELF ONCE A WEEK! Forget that you weighed yourself you naughty girl and don't get unmotivated by it!!! It could just be bloat or anything!! I can see why you might be intimidated by the gym. I have always been intimidated at the gym, mainly by the machines and the possibility I was doing it wrong, or people were looking at me thinking I was lifting too much or not lifting enough etc etc. Until this time when I rejoined and I realised that everyone else probably feels the same and that I'm only going to the gym to please me and not any one else. Since then I have felt more then comfortable pushing myself to the max and not being embarrassed or intimidated.

Emma Post the recipes in here They sound delicious and healthy!!
WTG with losing the weight around your stomach!

I am so slack... I am not weighing or measuring till official weigh in on 1st Feb lol!!!

Already had 600mls of water and some toast so far! I am addicted to banana smoothies right now... one a day isn't too bad isn it?

    Thursday
    Breakfast
    1 apple
    1 scrambled egg
    1 toast
1 whie coffee with 1 sugar

    Morning Snack
    Small slice of cake

    Lunch
Tuna and sweetcorn on half a turkish roll

    Afternoon Snack
Cake (why oh why did I make that cake??!!)

    Dinner
    Cajun chicken burger

    Water
    2L or more

As you can all see I tend to have egg for breakfast every morning. When I switched from cereal to egg I started to notice my weight dropping down. I think this is because cereal has so many carbs in it and to start losing fat you need to cut out some carbs because if you have too many carbs, your body will burn the carbs first before the fat.

I've been for a 10min walk and a 20min fast walk and run this morning already. I am trying to get in to the pool for a swim and then do the 8 minutes in the morning but DD doesnt seem to want to go to sleep this morning!!

Emma - woohoo on the cm's lost around your waist!! I am sure that it is accurate especially if you can see the difference. I would also love to hear that recipe

Talking about cm's lost, since I started my diet 5 months ago I've lost 9cm around my waist, 10cm around my hips and 8cm around my thigh. I look at some of the pants I used to wear and cant believe it!!

I tend to weigh myself a few times during the week too I find this as motivation, especially if it says one morning that I have put on a bit, I make sure that I am extra good and if I have lost any, I work harder to lose more!

Thanks Lea - monday mornings it will be for me from now on! I know it could be anything - I should take my own earlier advice on this forum.....
Veronica - when I was on sure slim a couple of years ago they had eggs as a major meal choice too for the protein and low carb and staying full longer factor. You have got me thinking about getting back into them.....
Emma - I've got the CSIRO books too. They're great and don't seem like "diet" food, just healthy. Excellent news on your cm's lost.
Lucy - said it in the other thread but well done

Having a reasonably good day here - too many carbs again but no junk and I'm not nibbling just because I'm home in front of the computer all day!
