thread: Exercise routines, tips and chatter?

I'm grinding it out on the streets for my 10k RachelM, so no extra LM for me just yet - maybe after September

Did 6miles this morning. Am sick of having colds which then make me take time off and ruin my training! I was supposed to be running 70mins this morning, which SHOULD have been about 6.5 miles (slow and easy 11min miles for my longest run of the week) but instead ran 6 in 68mins then quit ahead of my knees quitting. Actually i felt not too bad but i still should be farther ahead in my training. My 10k is in 3 weeks, so not too much time to up my distance. This time last year i was running 30km/week, this year it's more like 22k! Bloody colds.... That said i'm training smarter this year so maybe that will count for something on race day. Next sunday is a 7miler and the week after an 8miler, so hopefully the 6mile race will feel easy ish.

Rachel to keep your squat weight up try eating a very carby/proteiny meal on Monday and tuesday nights - REALLY hit it, you need to replace your glycogen stores. Try to eat something with protein and carb within 30mins of stopping pump and spin and consider taking your weight down for Pump on Wednesday only as that'll be the day when you have the least stored glycogen. Hydrate really well too. Maybe that will help.

    THREAD ROLLCALL

Dee? - did you find time to start getting regular exercise? How's it all going?

Feathertop? - What have you been doing? You got a routine to share?

    Kazbah? - How's tricks hun?

Laranna? - News? Views? Not long to go for you now, do you have post-birth exercise plans yet?

Loqua? - Where are you lady? What's happening with you?

Nadine? - How you feeling hun? Hope MS and 1st-tri exhaustion aren't keeping you down too much. You been doing much?

Nai? - How's that running coming along? And when is your next triathlon?

RachelM? - What you been up to this week hun? Your posts are always so inspiring

Ruth08? - You still doing your Les Mills classes? What's your routine like?

Tanstar? - How's your PG going? You getting any exercise in now you're rocking the 2nd tri?

    Did i miss anyone?

Me - Well, first some news... In February i said:
I want to get up to 12kg squats and back, 10kg lunges, 9kg shoulders and chest and 7kg triceps by the start of summer (end of May?) i think... Hmmm maybe i should write a plan?
Well, i have beaten than already! I now lift 15kg squats, 12kg lunges and back, 9kg chest and biceps and 7kg triceps and shoulders (not that we use the bar much this release). I'm now going to work on getting my squats to 20kg and my lunges to 15kg (i have realised it's not realistic to try to be lifting as much for lunges..lol).

In addition i am 2 weeks out from my first 10k race of the year, and on Thursday night i ran 10k in training in 58:35 a Personal Record for me I cannot BELIEVE i can beat the hour now. It's been worth the hard work finally!

COme on then folks, tell us yours..

No triathlons for me until November now (it's winter on this side of the world brrrr!!) but this week I rode to work twice and did 2 x 5km runs and today I did a 50km road cycle. So I'm doing ok. I ran home from work lat week and cut about 5-8min off my time from the previous run so I was rapt with that (it's about 6.km).

love your insentive Bec. Get the thread up and moving again! Congratulations on exceding your goal!!! AND setting up a new personal best for the 10k!!

Thanks for asking. I do feel a bit better from the flu, but the stuff (TMI) sliding down my gullet are making me soooooo sick and on top of a small case of m/s ... well, I just feel cr@p

Have not been to the gym since LAST monday It's been looong weekend and I was just to tired and sick to get up for class on Friday. I skipped today too, still not feeling good. I am going to try and go wednesday, though. I really need the "mental-break" I am freaking out a bit about this pregnancy, about having a second child, about my first just starting to sleep through and now getting a new sleepless baby. And my body is screaming for some exercise ... I am already feeling fatter

Woohoo Bec! Under an hour that's fantastic! Well done for pushing your weights up. It's not that hard is it? Before you do it you think there is no way I couldlift that, then when you do it seems so attainable!

I''ve been off since Fri as it was the long weekend and MIL was here so I felt bad leaving her. Enjoyed the break though

I've booked my tickets to England and i'm going to buy a book of passes to use at my Mums gym. (pounds)90 for 20 passes that's about $180 which is nearly 4 months of my gym membership! The things we do for fitness!

Doing cycle in about an hour and I can barely keep my eys open, I had a terrible nights sleep last night. Georgia kept coughing and I couldn't go back to sleep I hate tossing and turning but my mind is spinning with all the things I have to organise before I go.

Nadine, it's a shame you're feeling bad, I hope you feel better soon. I read somewhere that you shouldn't get out of bed in the morning till you've had a cup of tea and some biscuits so get on to hubby

Nai, nice work with cutting your time! It must be freezing down in Melb brrrr!!

    Take care everyone xxx

I think it's the winter weather

    Is nobody doing anything anymore??

I'm not ... It's been a more than a week since my last confession. I have been working in DH's shop in the morings (m/s and all) so gym is only a faded memory. I miss it though. And I have picked up about 2kg's , I think it's mostly in my boobs, because ... wowsa!!

Bec - how did the race go?? what was your time??

Rachel - thanks hun, I am feeling much, much better with regards to the flu. Morning sickness .... WHOLE other ballgame

I am off for a dinner date with DH *nice * We have FINALLY sold a coldstorage room (that was becoming the biggest white elephant in the history of the universe) today, so we are going celebrating

    Hi!

Actually it's coming into summer here, so i've no weather excuses...

My race was to be this Sunday, the 18th, and...i can't race. Right after the run i reported above, with my new PR being under 60mins, i got a mild foot injury. I rested it and iced it and a few days later tried a short run. It kicked in again after only a mile. So, four more days off and a lot more ice and such. Then last Saturday i ran 5k, felt great, had fun. Got in and felt fine. Walked about in very flat unsupportive shoes on Saturday night and Sunday. Got up on Monday unable to bear weight i was in so much pain.

Awful. There is something extensive happening because i have pain in my left sacral joint, left quad, left knee, right hip, right knee and right foot. I'm now on official rest until Bodypump on Tuesday. I had to miss pump this week because i was in pain just standing, and i couldn't put DD in the carrier as usual and i decided even if i could heal in time for the race i wasn't going to risk making it worse, since it was interfering with my life so much. I tired a swim on Tues instead of Pump and even THAT hurts.

So here i am, it's sunny outside and i can't run. My house looks great though - i have Spring cleaned it to within an inch of itself. It looks like a new place! LOL.

Aww Bec, that is to bad. I hope that injury is not to serious, could be you just pulled something really bad. At least you got lots of exercise spring-cleaning

I am going to gym on wednesday, really ... seriously. I am sooo tired, I am eagerly awaiting second trimester energy boost!!!!

    That sucks Hoobley. Rest up.

I shouldn't have read this thread. All it does is give me guilt about not running anymore! I used to run 10km 3-5 times a week as training, and then race on Saturday's with a local club. I suppose I could still run 10km but my time would be crap compared to what I was doing. I have no idea where my motivation went!

  10. #136
    paradise lost Guest

Slyder your motivation is over the next hump in the road, if you get running now you'll catch it!!!

I am still technically injured, though i could probably run ok now. I had to miss pump last week so i'm giving myself until tomorrow (7 whole days) off and then going to pump to see how i go. My foot feels ok again and i'm wearing an ankle/foot brace to help a little. There's still something weird going on with my sacrum but i'm always shonky in my pelvis when AF is here so that's no surprise really. Often a good run sorts it out.

I can't wait to get out there. I'm going to try a gentle 5k on Wednesday if the weather's nice, with a few stops for stretching and a break at 3k for some abs work. I have decided i'm a jogger and i'm going to embrace that, and not worry about continuous running distance or speed too much. I know i can run 10 under an hour, which was my aim when i began all this. I also know i couldn't get too much faster without a) losing weight and b) seeing a chiro. I can't afford b and i'm not interested in a, so here we are.

I can't WAIT to do pump though.

How unfit are you now Slyder? Why not try a wee 5k and see if your mojo is out there on the road? Just jog it, it's only 30mins of running, see how you feel. Remember to get decent shoes!

To jog 5km takes only 30 minutes??

  12. #138
    paradise lost Guest

If you're someone who used to run 30-50k a week yes! If you're just beginning then no. But 5k is about 3 miles and 10mins/mile is a relatively average pace for someone who is used to running. With the jogger and DD i run 5k in about 33mins, on my own more like 25.

    LOL Thanks - I was thinking ... I can't run 5 km in 30 minutes!! Heck, I don't even think I can run 1 km!!!

I am thinking about taking up jogging after this pg. Want to get my body back asap - not strugling for a year like with dd. And I think it might be fun AND it's cheaper than going to the gym. Money is going to be tight, come nr 2.

I definatly know who's number I'll be calling for some info and guideance

That's great that you keep a list of your daily routines on exercising. For me, I've been quite busy with my work so I just to take some exercise programs onlin eto keep my body fit.

Not that unfit, but crap compared to what I was doing. I was starting to get near 45mins for 10km and running 4m:20sec kilometres over the shorter courses (ie. 5-6km).

Since I moved out of the city and into the country my motivation has gone. I thought it would be the opposite but I find endless paddocks and sheep actually quite boring to run by. I like the variety of the city and suburbs it seems. Blah. Harden up Slyder.

Good luck with your programme, Hoobley. Good to see you so committed.

    Harden up Slyder.
    .
Hee hee, that's going to be my motto for my PT clients! It's one of DH's favourite sayings (usually with a naughty word in the middle!). His other one is "dry your eyes princess"!

So Slyder...Harden up, dry you eyes and DROP AND GIVE ME 20!!! (or jump up and give me 10K's!)

Seriously though I really believe that you have to schedule in exercise. I think you need to make an appointment with yourself, put it in the diary and stick to it. If you don't give yourself a choice then there is no reason not to do it - you just do it. I don't think anyone leaves the gym or finishes a run and wishes they hadn't done it!

Last week I managed to add another class to my week! I figure if 'm going to teach Pump then I have to get my body used to doing a few days in a row so now it's looking pretty scary...
    Mon - Pump, Step
    Tues - Cycle, Combat
    Wed - Combat, Pump
    Thurs - Step, Pump
    Fri - Pump, Step
    Sat - Cycle

Luckily I'm off to England on Tues so all this will resume when I get back. I'm going to try and go to the gym when i'm in England but I know it's going to be hard to balance seeing everyone I want to see and not missing out on anything to go to the gym. The thing is and what people don't understandis that fitness leaves you so quickly, if I don't do anything for 6 weeks then everything I have worked so hard for the last 16 months will be for nothing I don't want to come back and have to start again building up my strength and stamina. I want to come back, finish my Cert 3, get Combat certified and go straight into my Cert 4 to becoome a PT.

Ok, whinge over! I will be a super organised, multi-tasking mother and do everything!

Take care everyone, hope you are all great!

There is NO WAY you can lose 16 months of fitness in 6 weeks! And you KNOW that! Sure, it'll be tough to get back into it for the first few weeks, but guess what; DRY YOUR EYES PRINCESS! You can do LM in England if you get time, and if you don't get time then you're gonna have fun working your butt off to get back into the groove! Life is a balancing act, things shouldn't get in the way of other things, enjoy your fitness but let go of any anxiety about it. As someone who has been fretting about (non-existant) weight gain due to not running i can tell you it's NOT WORTH IT.

It's funny, my pump instructor NEVER does 2 days in a row, but she does do 6 classes a week. She does them back to back. Like on Tues she does pump 6.30pm-7.30pm and 8pm-9pm (at two different gyms). She says it's easier than going every day. Just a thought for you.

My foot is STILL injured but i'm lifting more and more in pump. I'm going to try a wee run later today, nice and slow and see how i go...

In Pump i'm now lifting 7kg warm-up, 17kg squats, 9kg chest, 15kg back, 9kg triceps, 9kg biceps, 14kg lunges and 9kg shoulders (when using the bar). Next week i'm hitting 20kg with the squats to see if i can do it! I'm loving feeling so stong and my endomorphic body is loving it too - you should SEE my biceps! LOL.

Nice one! I'm over in the UK now and Mum doesn't have broadband and their comp is really slow so I won't be on here much. I did Pump last night and i'm going to try and get to the gym at least 3/4 times a week and if not i'm not going to fret about it.

Loving being back (just don't ask about the flight ) i'd forgotten how beautiful and green the countryside is, all the rolling hills...it's so pretty.
