Gong to a 40th, Need to bring a plate that doesn't need heating. IDEAS?
I am going to a party, and i need to bring a plate of food that does not require heating. I will be at work all the day, and the party is in the evening.
Does anyone have any ideas for something easy to make?
fritata.
these are served at room temp.
so easy to make.
basically scrambled eggs with whatever you wnat then coook on stove top till endges go hard then in an oven 180 degrees non fan forced for 25 min and bam done..
we did one for dinner tonight
you can even make it the night before
Pizza scrolls are easy and can be served at room temperature. Use frozen puff pastry sheets, defrost, spread over some tomato paste or fruit chutney and top with cheese, pineapple, ham, whatever takes your fancy. Cheese and vegemite works well too Roll up and slice into 2cm portions and bake flat on an oven tray for about 15 minutes at 180 degrees. You can prepare them to the rolling up stage the day before, then slice them when you get home from work, pop them in the oven while you get ready then they're good to go (assuming you have time between work and party that is!).
Smoked Salmon Blini, cream cheese, dill - easy as, you can make the blini ahead and then just top with the cheese and salmon before you leave - super tasty too
Mini quiches. Puff pastry in circles in a tartlet or muffin pan, add a mix of beaten egg, grated cheese, ham, grated vegetables or ... well, anything quichy. Bake. Cool. Fridge. Done!
Depending on the type of people they are... Fairy bread? Butter a loaf of bread sprinkle with hundreds and thousands. Easy and yummy and I doubt anyone else would do it (I would but I'm lazy and cant cook)
Thanks - so many great idea. I am leaning towards the pizza scrolls or mini quiche's, but keep the ideas coming. I am going to my neice's birthday tomorrow, and might do some other the other suggestions for that.
Spinach & ricotta dip in a cob loaf, there's a recipe on the taste website. I have it somewhere here if you can find it. It's really easy to make. Just make up the dip the night before & store in a container in the fridge & transfer the dip to the cob loaf when you get to the party
I never think to make pizza scrolls, sounds so easy, I'm going to make a big batch and freeze them!
(Sorry had nothing to contribute, everyone has mentioned my ideas already.. just wanted to add in my appreciation lol)
Digressing, but speaking of scone dough I have a recipe here that is basically scone dough with a couple spoonfuls of sugar in and you make cinnamon scrolls with it, so like pizza scrolls but with melted butter with cinnamon/nutmeg/cloves/sultanas/currents in it.
Very very nice, but more dessert than dinner
We've spent most of this year trying out new recipes off teh intarwebs, some have been really really nice
Ohh - Can someone give me a good scone dough recipe that you know works properly. I might do with scone dough instead of puff pastry. The cinnamon scrolls sound delish!
