    Sore hips

My hips are so so sore. I wake at nights as they are killing me and when I go to roll over, oh boy does it hurt. Im finding its not just at night but during the day I have like a aching happening. Im sure its from the baby and was wondering do you all get this too. I didnt with DS and DD.

Yep, my sore hips/lower back/pelvis started a couple of weeks ago, gradually crept up on me. It is very sore to roll over in bed or get up off the couch, almost as if my hips are stuck! For me it's worse at night after I've been in bed for awhile. During the day it is ok especially if I get up and walk around regularly.

MISSY I have been getting very achy, cramp like feelings in my hips at night whilst sleeping. I really don't know if it has anything to do with being pg but I have found that if I wear flannelette pants to bed (to keep warm) it doesn't happen. Maybe try that during the night, during the day try to stretch your ITB which is the muscle that runs from the outside of your hip & joins in behind your knee cap. Just goole ITB stretch. Let me know if this helps.

I've been getting the same. I'm not used to sleeping on my side and wake with a real intense almost bruise type feeling in my hip on the side I'm laying on. Seems to be worse on the left side. It can hang around for a while in the morning too after I get up. Guess it has something to so with obviously the position and the fact the pelvic bones would be softening in preparation for labour.
I haven't found a solution quite yet but have some nights better than others for no real reason.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one cause I've never heard anyone esle mention this before.

I'll look up with ITB stretch now i think. THanks Georgi

Have you been sleeping with a body pillow? If not this might help as I started aching a while ago and have since bought a body pillow which lies on both sides of me (handy for when I roll over) and have found it an absolute godsend. It kind of makes me lie in the middle of a nest so I don't get any pressure points.

However I now have Pelvic Instability which is what it might be, so you should go and see a physio or osteo for diagnosis and treatment. They might give you a support belt to wear. I think there is a belly belly article on pelvic instability and if you google pelvic instability a site comes up with all sorts of handy hints on how to avoid aggravating it.

Oh man Missy I am getting the same thing, my hips and back are just so painful at the moment. My hips get 100x worse at night, though thats expected since you're staying in the same spot for a fair amount of time while you're asleep.

Sleeping with a body pillow helps me too, though half the time I end up rolled over and my pillow has hit the deck... MT I love the sound of the pillow you have is it shaped like that or do you just fold a normal bed buddy in half?

It is shaped like that - I think the brand is Leachco Back and Belly and I bought it from Toys R Us. It isn't cheap, but soooooo worth it! You can use it later on as a nursing pillow and is great for propping yourself up in bed. It is just fantastic not having to rearrange pillows when rolling over and because it is on both sides of you it can't hit the deck!

Downside (or not! ) is that it does provide a bit of a barricade between yourself and your partner!!

I think the pillows help my hip pain to keep my hip elevated and my legs apart, but sometimes I get annoyed with the body pillow taking up so much room so I just use a normal one. There's even more problem with a little one falling out, but if you can find a way to get it to stay then I don't see how you'd need a body pillow.

That said, a body pillow isn't necessarily just a pregnancy thing. I have to fight Shel for it sometimes, and to be honest I reckon it'd be really good during AF carmps too. So you can justify it

I think you could just use normal pillows. To make it like mine - one on each side of you supporting your belly and back, one between your legs and one under your head!!

    Good luck!

Hey Missy, I have been to my physio twice now and this has helped HEAPS. I still get sore after I've been in bed all night, but it's not as bad any more. My lower back and hip muscles were really really tight and were pulling on my L5 which was giving me referred pain into my hips. I'll be going to the physio once a week now as it's definitely helping.

    Hip pain sufferer too!

to all suffering as well! I'm a hip pain sufferer too! I'm almost 21 weeks and I'm in agony. Same thing, lying on my side in bed kills me and I've woken in tears a few times. I went to Chiro on weekend and he suggested padding my bed up with either a foam underlay or layers of doona's, sleeping bags etc, but I tried this and it still hurts. I did need an adjustment as my hips were out, and have another appointment next week, so will find out then if anything changes. But the simple fact is I cannot sleep on sides and cannot sleep on back - so I turn all night, which is getting increasingly harder as my waist increasingly expands. I will try one of those body pillows suggested - the Leachco Back & Belly pillows. Does this actually prevent your hip from touching the bed?? I think that is my only option.

I also heard taking fish oil supplements helps, but I have been taking for 2 weeks to no avail.
I literally cannot sleep, and it doesn't sound as though I'm going to be able to before the baby is due. By the time it arrives I will be a mess!

Jacksta - I have the Leachco back and belly pillow and my hips do still touch the bed. BUT in saying that the two 'arms' of the pillow are positionable and so I put them together so they are touching and then have to clamber on and wedge myself in between. Because the two arm pillows support my back and under my belly, even though my hip touches the bed I don't have the same pressure so remain aligned and it is a BIG improvement. Sometimes I also tilt forward a bit and fling one leg over one pillow (think flamingo style) and because the soft pillow is under my belly it is very comfortable and my hips don't take any of the pressure.

I honestly can not recommend this pillow enough - it really is a dramatic improvement than no pillows - and I also have very little disturbed sleep when needing to roll over as the pillow is already there and waiting on the other side!

    Thanks MummyTummy

Thanks, I'll give anything a go at this stage. I went to the chiro again today, and my hips had come "out" again - which he said is not a good sign - as this could mean pelvic instability , however they took more force going back in which is a good sign, as it means they may not pop out again so easily.

Last night I propped myself up on pillows so there wasn't too much pressure on my hips - touching the bed, and still they ached so bad. I will try the pillow, but it looks as though I will have to kiss sleep goodbye! i am so tired, yet dread going to bed each night!

Do you know if toys are us is the only place to buy them? I don't live near any of those stores??
