Thanks Jacki - i dont feel so bad about my belly now. you're right, i savour the moment when he's so tiny and cute.
in our settling class, they said if bub is unsettled, hold him tight against your chest, no rocking, no eye contact, no talking and jsut hold him close. that should settle him. it worked a few times, but not always.
I dont know how to self settle, tho....

Minky - thanks! his cheeks are so round now, i cant help kissing them!
re choccies - the nurse at the ECC said choc have caffiene and not to have too much. same with having coffee/tea/hot choc.
i did finally have some smoked salmon the other day.. it was so yum.

leebee - congrats on the smiles!!!lakshman smiles for no reason, lots in his sleep. the other he p!ssed on me and gave a big smile. cheeky bugger.

lakshman gave me my birthday present.. he was grizzly all evening, then went to sleep at midnight. i had wanted 8 hrs sleep. well we went to bed at midnite and lakshman woke up at 7.30 for his feed! of cos, i kept waking up wondering if he's ok and when he was going to wake up. and my boobs were getting heavy and painful and leaky. but still it was 7hrs of sleep! i havent slept so long for ages, esp in the last trimester with insomnia. i dont think it will be a repeat performance tho, just grateful this one night!!

I bought one of those kidopottamus wraps and because it has been so hot i only used it for the first time last night, it is really good as they can't wriggle out of them, it has velcro on it and is stretchy material so they can still move around and when she woke up she was nice and snuggly warm.

I have been changing Summers nappy between sides when i feed her during the night so hopefully she waits longer for the next feed.

    hi girls,
well Dh is back and things are getting back to normal. I had a baaaad week last week. Midwife came and Bry had only put on 20gms. So big stress about that. DH and I got carried away and well, the next day and day after I got O signs so off to get MAP. Yay. Had to stop BF'ing for 3 days from last tab because it affects BM. So am expressing and tossing it and then giving Bry formula. I'm hopinh yo get back to BF'ing in a day or two. Am not looking forward to this next weight in on tues as the head midwife is coming out too. She's worried he's failing to thrive. He's fine besides weight. Formula should help him pack it on tho.
Who asked about change in sleep patterns? Now Bry is over 6wks, he's changed patterns. He sleeps very little during the day, but nights, two lots of 4-6hrs and no playing up anymore. He's more settled overnight, but he's still getting used to formula, so he's getting bad wind at night between 5-11. But he settles then and sleeps thru a good 5 hrs. I think they do change at this point.
Prama, the flabby belly sticks arouns for a while hon. But working out will help get rid of it. When I had Kat, a girl from my AN classes lost her belly within weeks. I was soooo shocked! it seems so unnatural. But I guess different strokes.... Hey?!
anyway, I have to go tell my girls to go to sleep so I'd best go. Love and hugs to all!

    Happy Easter everyone!

Jacki - We are using a self settling technique with Jasper at 7.30 pm only. We change his nappy and give him his feed. Then we sing a made up sleepy time song and go and kiss daddy goodnight. After that I put him in his bassinet in our dark and quiet bedroom and wrap him tightly. He has a little musical elephant (used to be mine when I was a bubby!) that we wind up, a kiss from mummy and then up to him to fall asleep. The first few times it took about 20 minutes to settle, now only about 10 minutes... If he works himself up too much, I go back in the room and put my hand on his tummy without looking him in the eye and sometimes pat his tummy. As soon as he is quiet I take my hand away and put it back when he starts to cry again. Sometimes when he is overtired; touching him only makes it worse, so it works best for him to let himself cry to sleep. At night we do the nappy change before his feed, so he can go straight back to bed when he is nice and sleepy after the feed. Jasper tend to unwrap himself too, maybe we have to start using bigger wraps? Bassinet sheets might work...

Prama - Happy birthday! What a great present from Laskhman to let you sleep 7 hours! And he is beautiful; love your new photo! Don't worry, my belly is still wobbly too...

Minky - We find that the more horrible the day is, the better Jasper sleeps at night, so hopefully that goes for all babies!

Leebee - Congratulations; sooo nice those smiles, makes your heart melt, doesn't it?

Jasper is going quite well, a bit more challenging in the afternoon. He stays awake from 4 pm til 7.30 pm and gets quite ratty; only a nice cuddle with mum or dad will settle him... ah well, we'll just have to do that then; so nice to have him snuggled up against your shoulder... Yesterday we went to the local Easter parade and he slept right through the noisy truck horns, police sirens and music! Unbelievable how they can sleep once they are asleep!

Ok, going to finish the last bit of chocy before that mysteriously disappears...

prama - happy birthday! My belly is still a little flabby too unfortunately. I can't wait to start some exercise to try and get some tone back! What great pressies from both DS and DH! It sounds to me like DS is sleeping normally for a new baby. Re expressing, my boobs get really fulll too, but i find it helpful if I want to go out and leave her with someone for a bit, and then as soon as I get home I will express again for next time and to relieve the boobs. That way it is still worthwhile, as you get a break longer than three hours to have a bit of a social life, and then can still relieve the boobs, although they can get a little uncomfy for a bit.

Everyones babies seem to be sleeping so well! DD has not been so good the last couple of nights Last night we went out to dinner and left her with my parents with some EBM. She was great and slept the whole time! Then as soon as we got home she was a little nightmare for the rest of the night! Plus, at one stage when DH went to pick her up because she was crying, he forgot we have a new cot mobile and he didn't turn the light on so she got whacked in the head! Poor thing. That really made her cry.

DD has started only pooing about twice a week, and when she does it's a shocker! She did one today when we were out at a picnic with the family, and boy was that difficult to clean up! Usually these poos are so bad that she needs a bath to get cleaned up, I felt like hosing her down! Yuck!

katkins - I hope Bry starts putting on some more weight with the formula. That must be so stressful, you poor thing.

Jacki - how much better is this weather!!

I am off to eat some more choccy!

Yeah !!! Just noticed that "Quick Reply" is back.

Bun - its great that you have been able to express and get out a bit leaving Catherine to be babysat. I haven't done it yet but want to. My parents are staying for the next couple of weeks so I guess better take advantage now before they return to Sydney.

Prama - nice on on the long sleep. It makes a world of difference to how you feel during the day doesn't it !!!

Kerrie - sorry to hear about Bry. I hope he gets back on track soon with the formula feeding.

Allgirls - Luke is getting too big for muslin wraps. As he wriggles and squirms he managed to unwrap himself. Now that the weather is a little cooler I want to start using a more stretch wrap as well so hopfully he will stay wrapped as unwrapped he wakes himself up

Luke was doing really well with night sleeps but over the last couple of nights he has gone back to waking more often. During the day he can be anything from awake and ratty all day or calm and sleepy. No routine !!!

Also starting to get lots and lots of smiles and he has lots of times when he wants lots of eye contact and interaction. I spend time mimicking his facial expressions and noises and he tries to copy me as well. Very very cute !

Breakthrough !!!! I breastfed in the park to day !!

Katkins - hope bry stacks on weight soon. im sure he will. Lakshman also lost weight below then 10% but put it all back on. what's MAP?

Jacki - lakshman tries to escape from those stretchy wraps.. he just wriggles so much. Well done bf-ing

Bun - poor baby.. hope she doesnt have a bump. Lakshman poos every other day or 3rd day. but he farts really bad stinkers!

Prama, I have a wriggler here too, you can wrap him into a tight cocoon and he squirms and kicks his way out..lol..its so funny to walk in and see him asleep but all unraveled and uncovered! Noah only poos maybe every 2nd day, inbetween he does smelly farts too..makes you think he has pooed his nappy!

Jacki , Woohoo!!! on bfing at the park!!!!!!!!! I am still a homebody with breastfeeding..lol.. Those smiles must be gorgeous!!! I think that Noah is starting to smile, we have seen him do a couple of beauties but we arent sure if they were windies or not!

Bun, sorry to hear that bubs was so unsettled after your lovely night out! I bet your DH felt terrible for hitting her head on the mobile!

Esme, I love your settling routine! I have been trying the hand on the shoulder and then gently taking it away, works most times. I am trying the CC during the day...depending on what my patience levels are..lol..

Kat, I hope that Bry gets better with the weight gain soon, I am sure he will, especially with the formula!!

    Good Morning Everyone,

Hoping everyone had a lovely Easter weekend. My DH is back at work today (sob sob) but the three munchins have been good so far today.
DD is really settled at moment -- going to bed by 7-30 then waking after Midnight for 1st on feed and the between 4+5 am for second feed. Very nice.
The chocolate highs and lows with my DS's have settled now I am rationing the chocolate. he he

Prama -- Happy Birthday ( belated sorry ) I have wobbly belly also -- will have to try + find time to do abdo exercises don't know when.
Katkins- I am sure Bry will stack on the weight with the formula.
Jacki -- I still wrap DD but loosely so she can have an arm out. I will try and wean her off the wrapping soon and probably put her in a grobag/ sleeping bag. It gets so cold here in Ballarat at night.
We don't have a routine -- DD can be the same as Luke either awake + ratty or sleepy. With my other two they weren't really predictable until around 3-4months.!! LOL.

Sorry DD awake no more time for personals. Hi to everyone else

    Have a good Day!

    Sue

minky - bub's a wriggle worm like me. i still kick off my sheets at night, andDH says i dont sleep still! mum said as a baby i used to kick the sheets off as soon as she put them on..
lakshman has been smiling for a few weeks i think it might be wind too. he does a lot in his sleep, sometimes, just one side, looks like an elvis lip curl!
hows CC going? we tried a couple of times, but we're big wusses... couldnt do it..

lakshman pee-ed on his face and hair today! wish i recorded it!!

    Hi girls,

I have been reading your posts but not replying. I have missed so much that I wont be able to do personals.
Amber doesnt sleep during the day. It gets frustrating because I cannot do much. I bought her a sling wheich she is slowly getting used to but not for too long as she cries.
We have a wriggler here too. At night time she is good and stays all wrapped but during the day she wriggles around. Yesterday she got her feet out and was having a good kick. At the moment we are wrapping her in 2 muslin wrap and then a stretchy cotton wrap on top. We find she gets out of one wrap all of the time so we use the two and she only has a singlet on. We use the biggest wraps we can find as she is growing out of them too soon.
We have our 6 week check up on Friday.
Better go. I think someone has pooed her nappy big time.

Hiya guys, MAP is Morning after Pill. And I think he's put on weight. He feels heavier. He's back on booby as from last feed (9am) and am pleased to say I don't think my supply dropped tooooo much. He only needed a top up of 50ml so am quite happy with that.
Prama, that would have been a good one to show on his 21st! hehehe I'm sorry he had a bad night the other night.
Bun, I hope her head was ok. Poor bubba. Would have made her cry soooo bad. Poor girl....
Hope everyone else is getting smiles from their bubbas! Bry gives the cutest grin! Just makes me melt hehehehe.
    Love and hugs to all!

Hey ladies, I have been lurking (again) and am interested to see you guys going through the same things as me!

Prama - Ben pee'd in his face the other week. Everytime I have his nappy off he seems to think it is time to let one go. He hosed down my bed the other day. Had to change the sheets!

As for the wrapping thing, Ben seems to enjoy being unwrapped, but for the first couple of weeks I found this great thing at the baby shop called a swaddle. It is velcro and fleecy and you wrap the baby in it and the velcro bits hold everything together. It was great as Ben couldn't get out of it no matter how he struggled. Unfortunately he got anooyed with being wrapped and we are now putting him in a sleep bag. These too are fantastic. We had them with the other 2 kids and they were great!

My DH made sure that I was down the chemist to get my prescription for the mini pill filled the other day. That way when the 6 weeks are up he won't have to wait or "bag it"! DTD is the last thing on my mind ATM. Sleep. Now that is my priority!

Hope everyone is going great. Sleep vibes to the bubs!

we have one of those velcro wraps.. he moves too much and i worry it might not be comfy for him. it probably is..

Alright, i'm frazzled and i can't remember who said what anymore so i'm very sorry for my slackness but im just going to post...

Alexander's Christening on Saturday night went well, he slept through the entire thing, which was really quite splendid. Having the in-laws down also went well, his mother wasn't as controlling and smothering as i expected, it was actually his father i wanted to tell to STFU sometimes.

Had a CHN appt today, alex has put on 630gms in two weeks, woohoo. CHN was giggling for ages before she told me. Alex has also worn the last of his newborn nappies and the first of his 000 clothes.

I have a really bad pain where i assume my pubic bone is. I dont know why, - i thought it was just my pelvis "shrinking again" but its been around for more than afortnight now so obviously not. If im squatting it hurts, it hurts to put pressure on, if i use the toilet it hurts. I dont want to pay to go to the docs any earlier but it hurrrrrrrts!

Smiles - we got our first smile on Day 7. But it was a wind smile, the social smiles started about a week later, but hit high frequency on Saturday!

Nappy changing - I change at the end of a feed. Alexander often tends to poo while im feeding him so changing him at the beginning, or mid-feed is usually pointless. He also doesn't need comforting to sleep, he puts himself off, so i dont need to worry about feeding to sleep.

Feeding - He tends to feed four hourly, sometimes he'll go five hours, and on a warmer or a grizzly day some feeds are three - but he's having six feeds a day. For his weight he should be taking approximately 115ml.
Guts-pants-mcGee last night took a bottle of fresh EBM and drank 160ml. And then didn't even sleep any longer. Definitely encountering a growth spurt as since last nights guts of a feed he drains one side (about 125ml) and then almost the second (about 60ml).

I honestly don't know the definitions and 'terms' of controlled crying and self settling, but this is what we do...
I put Alexander to bed when i see his tired signs and even though he might lay awake for an hour i leave him - he always cries for thirty seconds or so just before he falls asleep (its quite strange actually).
If there are no tired signs i give him tummy time or etc until he does get tired or chuck him in his rocker until it vibrates him to sleep.
If he wakes before a feed its generally because of wind - i let him cry to pass it and once he gets too wound up ill pick him up, rub his back/belly, till he takes his dummy again and then put him back to bed.

Don't know if i posted this already but we've recently learned his loudest, most high pitched, ear piercing scream is his 'wrap me and put me back to bed scream'. It's quite alarming, because the loud crying is so uncharacteristic of him so far... guess in a way its good as i know exactly what he wants... Although sometimes its hard as he'll have wind, it'll pass but before he stops crying from wind he's crying to be put down...

Speaking of wrapping, Alex still startles himself too much when not wrapped so for my sleep's sake, (lol) we still wrap him at night and try leave him loose during the day, so he gets more used to it.

Prama - Alexander did the same the other day. We were in a parents room and all, so when it landed, not only on his clothes, face, hair, in his eye... it all pooled in his ear... The irony is, on that day he was wearing FIREMAN SUIT, pmsl.

Katkins - i thought the BFing would stop the O'ing?? Damn now you have me worried as i haven't got the mini-pill yet and we haven't exactly been careful.

Carley - im so sorry that you're having such a difficult time with Lysander, i hope things get better for you asap.

Sorry to all i missed & hope you all had a wonderful Easter too.
