Celtic - that was a massive post! well done!

I just watched a tweddle dvd that someone lent me and it said to do the following for bubs under 6 months:
put her in her bed awake, leave the room and if she cries go back in for 30 seconds, calm her down until she is quiet then leave again and wait another 30 seconds. Keep doing this for 20 mins.

Its pretty much the same as what Trish and WIllow have described, but I found it useful actually seeing it in action on the dvd...I'm going to give this one a go next nap time! Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

Melb gals - the day of the meetup we had planned there is cricket on at the mcg... do you think it will be too busy around there?

I dont seem to have any trouble getting C to sleep at night. But I might be doing something wrong. I go through the normal routine...I guess I do rock her to sleep a little. But she normally falls asleep just after the feed and right after her burp. I just put her down in her cot and pull the sheet over her and she is normally asleep. If she wakes DH goes in and puts her dummy back in, rubs her little tum (without looking at her!) and walks out. She is normally back asleep after about the 3rd time. If she is still awake...I pick her up, walk around with her for 5 mins, then put her back. She doesnt seem to show any tired signs...besides falling asleep. She doesnt get grizzly or rub her eyes, she just falls asleep in my arms. I guess I just really love to cuddle her....probably wont be a good thing when she is 5 years old!! But its working now - who am I to complain!
sorry you are feeling like crap Kim. I hope you feel better soon.
Anyway - just put C down for her midday nap which I hope will last at least one hour - but will see! So I am going to grab a quick bite to eat and watch a bit of my fav movie - shawshank redemption!!! mwah

Hey girls just wanted to say woohoo!! We've had such good sleeps today. 2 and a bit hours this morning, an hour and a bit at lunch time and 2 hours this afternoon! AND hardly any settling or resettling. Might not be great compared to some but for us these are pretty good sleeps! Who knows, maybe it will lead to a good night???

Went shopping this afternoon and left the kids with DH, needed some me time. Feeling a bit down about these sleeping issues so did a bit of retail therapy. Brought some charms for my pandora bracelet (I'm addicted!) and some new sunnies cause I haven't been able to find mine since we got back from Adelaide, might have left them somewhere.

DH is cooking a BBQ for dinner tonight and we are going to sit outside to eat.

Turned out to be a pretty good day....

Kim - hope you're feeling better soon!

    Hi all!

We went to a third b'day party today, Kieran was in his Bjorn, but wouldn't sleep so I thought he'd be a shocker for the rest of the day, but I called into my mum's on the way home and he slept there for two hours! Joel didn't get a nap though so he is being a shocker atm! If it's not one it's the other...

Willow - Woohoo for your DS!!!!!! Hopefully he will keep having days like that! That's great you got some retail therapy too! LOL at your man boobs comment!

Kim - You poor thing, I hope you get better really soon.

Kellie - Good luck with the settling! Re: meet-up, I'm easy, but I am going away for a week as of the 22nd of Feb so obviously can't meet up with you guys then.

Mo - IKWYM about watching for tired signs, there is nothing worse than missing the boat!

Celtic - The award for the longest post goes to you!! It was so long the mods had to start a new thread lol! You poor thing, you are having such a rough trot physically lately. Good luck with all your tests.

    Have a great night everyone!

    Hi ya!

Had a great birthday. DH came home with a bottle of champange and a cake. Cake almost finished and the bubbly not even opened. L behaved himself for our babysitter. Dinner was so nice and while we go out for dinner with L it was nice to go somewhere really nice without him. Funny tho we spent a good part of the night talking about him.

Today we dragged L around a whole heap of open houses. Love my baby carrier. He went to sleep in it only to be woken up by an auctioneer ringing his bell! Poor thing was so tired when I put him down just now I haven't even needed to go back to resettle him.

L is still in 0000 and is 5.3kg. He has put on about 700gr in the last 2 weeks so to us he is really packing on the grams. Bought some huggies crawler nappies today ready for the time when he will be big enough to wear them.

Hope you are all well. To those of you that are sick hope you are feeling better, those who have had bad nights have a better one tonight, and those that are ok, stay that way.

Yep I go to all that effort to write an uber post to try and catch everyone and it causes the thread to self destruct LOL jks

Poor monkey has a bung eye again today just after we thought we'd nailed it! He got a big red purple ring and was nearly swollen closed but I've been attacking him all day with cream and water and now it's gone down and he can nearly open his eye the whole way I tried to put a wrapped cold pack on it and was not happy!! lol.

Saffi- Ryan went straight into 000's he's such a stocky lil brick of a thing! He's also coming up on 4 months old in about 10ish days or something like that, they grow quick! Theres a little girl that crawls around like a speed demon at the daycare centre and she's as big as Ryan but is 7 months old! Even the other bub Ryan plays footsies with is 2 months older than him but looks smaller lol.

Kim- plenty of fluids, a nice fan or air con if you have it and a good snooze for you young lady! Celtic's orders :-P

Lauren - just like adults every bub is different. I have heard once bubs start crawling that the weight drops off them. As long as they are healthy and happy that is all that maters, hey.
Trish - now got some photos on the phone just in case I am asked and he is not with me. Got so motivated even saved it as my wallpaper.

Forgot to say before that we heard the start of a laugh today. Was so cute. Laughing at DH, but we all do that LOL. Also rolling back to front and front to back.

    sorry selfish post this time:

its so funny how we always wish what we dont have.
i remember i used to get soooo sick of everyone telling me how small Nixon was and all i wanted him to do was grow big! Now i have Tyron the big porky monster and i wish he was still a little boy! i love his little chubby legs though lol Nixon always had long thin skinny sticks

MIL had the boys for a while today. gosh i hate her minding them.... at her place anyway, i hated it at her old house and i hate it even more at her new house. its getting renovated but not safe at all. i didnt have a choice dh away, mum busy sister busy.
She never does what i ask, the kids nappies never get changed, Nixon eats crap the whole time. which ok its alright on occasions but then i have to deal with a sugared up, over tired kid when we come home. He cracked the biggest tanty trying to get him in the car to go home. i strauggled for a few minutes he was arching his back, kicking, sliding down and SCREAMING....... 2min down the rd he fell asleep THANK GOD.
Tyron was real spewy, (prob because he wasnt burped like i ask him to be) and he too hardly had much sleep.
Like its nice that she can mind them but its such an ordeal afterwards, Nixon always comes back FILTHY, she said she bathed him (and wtf instead of putting on the clothes i brought for him or the pj's i bought for him she puts him in her other grandsons clothes?) but he was still pretty dirty and actually stood by the bath wanting one when we came home!

sorry rambling now but grrrrrrr it annoys me!
    ok bed time for me
    good night all

    I have missed loads!

Kim - hope you are feeling a bit better?

Nic - You poor thing, IMO your MIL is being disrespectful to you by not doing as you ask. What does your DH think about it? (I love it that my MIL lives in Brisbane LOL!)

Just caught a quick bit on the settling thing. Amara has become a geat self settler, totally by luck as I don't leave my babies to cry but I am stoked all the same. I usually wrap her, give the dummy and then give her a kiss and say night night, then lay her down. If she does not settle and I hear fussing, grunting etc I go back 'cos it usually means she has lost her dum. If I do it more than 10 ins or so it usually means I have to get her up and try on the next sleep cycle (20 ins or so).

We have gone back to being a night time feaster though Last night, 1.30am, 4am and 6.30am, I am tired as!

    Must sleep, night all

    Just a quickie!...

ARG! Nic, I feel your pain!... I refuse to leave Kaylee at my MIL, she has a really boisterous and spoilt dog that has run of the house, even sleeps on her bed - so am concerned that if I left Kaylee there that the dog would get jealous or even just try and 'play' with Kaylee. So insist that MIL mind her at our house.

Celtic - thanks for asking about Kaylee, she seams to have settled down and no tooth - so thinking you must be right, pushed up and then went down again... but we had blood the other day so was really expecting a tooth to break through?!

Question time... baths - do you bath bubs in the morning or evening? How strict is your bathing routine and what is it?

I was bathing Kaylee in the mornings, but I joined a pram fitness class Tues & Thurs mornings a couple of weeks ago, and it has totally thrown my bathing routine out and she has been having baths at all different times - so want to change her to an evening bath routine... I am thinking bath, bottle and bed. Did it tonight and she has been sleeping soundly since 6.30pm, so fingers crossed she settles into the new routine easily?

    Morning everyone!

Well, Kieran slept thru again so I think we are finally back on track! If I didn't still have this sinus infection I think I'd be feeling pretty good atm! K was hard to settle yesterday evening though, I think our big day finally caught up on him and it took me AGES to get him to go to sleep. He didn't argue after his 9:30pm feed though so it was all good in the end.

Peta - You're such a good girl doing a pram fitness class! Re: bathtime - I give K a bath in the evening just before he goes to bed for the night. I massage some Gaia moisturiser on him after his bath and he loves it. He never settles really well in the evenings without his bath, I think he has become used to it!

Leah - That's great Amara is such a good settler! You are sooo lucky!

Nic - You're MIL sounds so frustrating! I won't leave my boys with mine, I know she wouldn't do anything I ask her to and I would end up with two very tired, unhappy boys.

Saffi - Glad you had a great birthday. It's so cute when they start laughing isn't it!

Celtic - I hope Ryan's eye clears up soon the poor sausage.

    Have a great day everyone!

    Morning all.

Trish - I'm starting to long for the day when L sleeps through! Beginning to think it will NEVER happen! I'm going to have one of those kids who doesn't sleep through till they're 2 or something!

Nic - hearing you on the MIL thing. Mine is great but doesn't always do things the way I want them done and does the weird clothes swap thing too!! DD always comes home filthy too (not if she's had a bath though, that's very strange?!) I don't have anyone else to mind my two though, my mum lives 4 hours away, sister is in Perth, brother is in Quakers Hill (bout 20 mins away) but he and SIL work full time and have two of their own and are very busy. All of my girlfriends either work or are busy with their own kids and babies. Totally sucks but for the moment, we're kinda stuck in that regard.

Celtic - hope Ryan's eye clears up soon. Doesn't sound very nice, poor little man.

Saffi - glad to hear you had a great bday!

Well another awful night for us. Slight improvement on the previous two but still have NFI what is going on with this boy! Aaaaaarrrggggh! We have to go out again today which I REALLY don't want to do. I think he would really benefit from a few days at home in his routine after the busy week we've had. But I have to go and visit one of my friends who had her baby girls last week, all of the girls are going today so I really don't have much of a choice. And DH has gone fishing (AGAIN - don't get me started on that one...) so have to take both kids with me. *Sigh*....it's going to be a fun day....

Hope everyone has a great day!

Maddi & i had a good night, down at 9:30pm woke up at 7:30am, so glad we got back in to our routine. I forgot how bad those 3am wake-ups are.
MIL's Mine gave Maddi some chocolate while i was in hospital, When we picked Maddi up she had chocolate on her top & then when asked about she lied straight to my face.
Then told Phil about it behind my back, I was so Angry, but things are slightly better now.

Willow hope the nights start to improve for you after tomorrow.

Well after chaning her routine and giving K a bath last night before her last bottle, she actually settled really quickly, which is unusual for her and then she slept from about 6.30pm until about 5.45am... 11-hours! Woohoo.

Trish - do you feed, bath, bed or bath, feed, bed?? If things continue as well as last night I think bathing in the evening is going to be good... I have Gaia shampoo which I use to wash her hair and in the bath, and the moisteriser - which I normally massage in her legs, tummy and arms after her bath.

As for the pram fitness class, I need to do it! My weight was going up instead of down... I need to do the class to motivate me to eat better and move more, lol! It is actually like a group PT session with a small group of mums and bubs in the prams. We do walk/jogs and lots of different resistant training and sometimes do a circuit style class. Every class is different which is great. I would post the link, but it is a big 'no-no' in BBLand, lol. so if you wanna check it out google "Babes on the Run". Our trainer is the owner and she is awesome, and a mum too! The class is twice a week, then aiming to walk at least a couple of other days a week. Have started losing cms already.
