njd- I do my personal training with Step into life- they are an Australia wide franchise thing. They promote themselves as group out-door personal training. My sessions cost $14 each- and we train for an hour, including warm up, main session and cool down/ stretching. At my local gym my membership was $35 month and a PT session would have been about $20 for 30 mins on top of my membership, so I feel like I am up on the deal. Plus I really like the idea of working out in a group, I had reservations at first about being the biggest, most unfit etc, but now I just go at my own pace, but use the pace of the people around me to help push me along, I also love the social aspect of it.
My trainer is male, and once I was over the shy, Im big and unfit and he is going to judge me etc, I realised that he was really actualley very supportive, and realistic in helping me set my goals etc.
In our session we do a warm up, depending on what sort of session it is, so either some focus mit work for kick boxing, with shuttle runs, cardio obstacle course (hurdles, medicine ball carry etc), this morning we went for a jog around the block, sometimes we play soccer or volley ball as our warm up. Main workout is really about keeping the heart rate up, so lots of running, k/boxing is lots of punching and kicking on the bag with running in between. I also do toning session where we either use fit balls and weights, rubberised bands with handles, or just weight- and this is alot of strenght stuff.
I guess really it comes down to personal choice, for me it works because I have a tendency to get lazy so having someone I know is going to be kicking me up the bottom, and ringing me if I dont turn up really works.
Forgot to say before that I got my wii and wii fit , and I love it- I know it is a novelty thing at the moment, but it is fun, and I figure even if I dont use it as the bulk of my excercise, at least it is better than just sitting on the couch watching TV. I like the idea of the free step, so I can just do step ups and still watch telly. Even DH is already addicted, and he doesn't like to do excercise at all, and he is already talking about getting in his 30 mins daily.
