Wow another boy! It's the same in my MG. 11 mums but only 2 girls! There's gonna be a lot of competition in 15 or so years!!!
Welcome njd Flynn is usually doing about 1- 1.5 hrs between daytime sleeps. I tend to play it by ear and wait until he seems tired so sometimes it is longer than that. Sometimes even tho I know he is tired he fights and fights going to sleep (it's like he is afraid he is going to miss out on something fun!!) When he is like that I usually wrap him up and put him in the rocker and he usually drifts off in there, so much better than crying!! Haven't tried any solids here, my mum keeps telling me I should start but the MCHN suggested not until about 5mths. I'm sure Flynn would happily gobble up solids, but I'm probably gonna wait a bit longer. Laura My labour was a lot easier than I expected! I had little niggles from the time I woke up on the 16th but didn't really think anything of them (I was convinced he would be about 2 weeks late!) It was really hot that day and I came home and read the paper and had a cool bath. The pains were very tolerable. I fell asleep in front of the air con! At around 5pm I rang the hospital to ask if they thought I was in labour - I still wasn't convinced that this was it! They said yeah it sounds like it but give it a while, make sure they are getting closer together and longer etc. At around 8pm I begged my DH to get us some pizza!! I had a few pieces and vomited, the pains were getting worse now! We went to the hospital at around 10pm. I was 7cm dilated then. I had the gas and had the CTG monitor on for most of the time. My waters didn't break until I started pushing, that was a bit scary! I needed to have an episiotomy cos there was meconium in the fluid and bubs hb got very slow and they wanted him out ASAP. So Flynn was born at about 3:00, weighing in at 8lb 2oz, on the 17th of March - which was his due date!!
It sounds a bit like Sam may be having a growth spurt (did someone already say that??) Hopefully he will be more reasonable soon. Hang in there girl
I think that's enough for now! Hope you are all well.
Woh ... things have moved at lightning speed in this thread since I was last on two days ago!!! Welcome njd!
Mel - darlin' you sure need a . Things will turn around for you and your family soon, I'm sure (... er, if you're into prayers, then St Monica is the patron saint of mothers! Thank my catholic school education for this genuine pearl of wisdom). Truly hope things settle down in your household. You know where we are whenever you need to let it all hang out. How's Emily's ears now?
Hayley - I'm hearing you about our bubs starting to assert themselves. I wouldn't say Cam "demands" anything (god forbid!), but I've seen a couple of flashes of temper/frustration.
Nina and CM - a bugger about Cohen and Flynn's sleeping habits. I'm no real help with advice in this department (... pls, don't throw rotten cyber eggs at me!) So far Cam is still sleeping approx 10 hours a night. Some days he has 'sleepy days', where he may have a couple of sleeps of 2-3 hours - other days he doesn't have any more than a couple of 20-30 mins sleeps. I go with the flow but am relieved he's sleeping at night. Of course, I realise all that may change in the blink of an eye ... Good luck with getting your bubs settled/asleep for longer periods at night.
Reenie and LauraB - sorry to hear your MG experiences weren't great, but in defence of older mums, were not ALL obsessed with prams and "one-upping". Promise . Of course, MY son is now walking and talking and will soon be going to university ... .
Reenie, good luck with renovating, starting uni and moving - you're more game than I'd be! Good on you for hosting a mothers group at your house ... I need to get in touch with playgroup or something similar over this side of the city. I love BB but it would be great to have a natter (and a coffee) face-to-face with some other mums.
LauraB - I posted my birthing experience in the birth stories. Sorry, I'm useless with links but think I called it Cameron James' natural birth 16/03/08. Suffice to say, I had a pretty quick labour (approx 5 hours) and had the birth I wanted, being no intervention and no drugs. I was lucky that everything "went to plan", but feel that the HyonoBirthing course DH and I attended plus relaxation/breathing exercises at home, helped. All in all, a good experience which I'd gladly repeat (hopefully in the not tooooo distant future, all being well). Sorry to hear Sam's feeding is a bit off - I can relate to some extent. Cam's feeding habits have definitely changed in the past couple of weeks in that he pulls off and on more than ever, and he doesn't need a full 10 mins from both breasts. All we can do is persist, I reckon, and hope it's just a "phase" ... Good luck with it.
Luey - glad to hear that Ethan has found some relief, but sounds like you've still a little way to go before his reflux (or whatever it may be) is totally sorted? I'm sure it isn't nice seeing your darling baby unhappy ... keep up the good work. Hope he (and his mummy) start to get some further relief soon.
Hi to Bec - sorry to hear about Jake's illness. Hope things ok and hope to hear from you soon.
Njd - no solids here yet. Cam is showing great interest in the food I eat, but I hear that's pretty normal for bubs his age. I'm not planning to introduce solids until 6 months providing we keep BFing with ease.
All-boys - hope all well with you and your brood!
I bought Cam a teething ring today. I read up on teething in Robin Barker's "Baby Love" book (almost my bible in the early days). She indicates that, like colic, "teething" is a slightly overused term that explains away unexplained crying. Similar, I think, to what you are saying Hayley. Anyway, I'm not getting hung up about whether or not Cammie is teething. However, I saw Cam rubbing his dummy backwards and forwards over his gums a few times yesterday, so I suspect something may be happening in that department. Time will tell, but hopefully the teething ring will provide him with whatever relief/relaxation he is needing.
Hope I've covered everyone in the personals ... our "little" group (as we used to say) has really taken off .... the more, the merrier !
Mel - just saw your post. Glad to hear Emily is feeling better. Tresillian sounds like a lot of running around, but will be good if it helps James and you. Thanks for the update on Bec. Take it easy there.
Hi girls. Just a quick pop in since its almost midnight and i have an early start tomorrow.
Catherinemoses I just realised that our bubs were born on the same day. St Pattys day babies
Welcome to NJD It certainly is getting packed in here. I feel like I have to post at least twice a day to try and keep up!!
Yeh mine was an elective cesar. Mostly it was in both mine and bubs best interest. Now I have had one type of birth each, vag and c, I wouldn't reccommend either!
Oh and I am not sure if it was you or someone else but I am not giving any solids until 6 months. I was advised by my paed allergist to start introducing a thumbnail sized portion of weet bix from 4 mnths and this helps their digestive system prepare for wheat, and kind of scares away wheat allergies. My DD India who is 2 needs to carry an epi pen jnr, is allergic to wheat, dairy, eggs, nuts and soy amongst other things, plus has asthma and excema so I am going to give it a go and see what happens. But yeah will be interested to see if Seraya inherits any of that. Hopefully not. One child with those ailments is enough of a night mare!!
Can anyone else relate to this with older children?
Laurab-Tried to induce me but it didn't take. So had cesar a week later. My birth story is on my blog... www.reeniescornerofthestar.blogspot.com complete with up to date pics.
Mel Wow to you ! I dont know how you do it! I would be a wreck! You are amazing!! I am one cranky sasquatch if I don't get my 8 hours sleep. Thank god these girls are little sleepaholics. Great at self soothing too. Makes it easier. Makes me feel like a terrible mum sometimes. Cos they don't need me!! hehe. Guess I should be thank ful.
Andie- I know not all older mamas are like that!! I think its mostly the side of town I am on. We are bit further from the city so the demographic is a little different. It is mostly older mums out here who are obsessed with their kids, and getting out to play golf with their hubbys. Must be nice heh.
If you ever want to catch up, I am only 20 mins from your side of town. I am thinking morningside or there abouts? Would be nice to get the babies together.
Well sorry if I missed anyone. And we miss you in here Bec! Well better get to bed. DUI court thingy early in the morning. for the best but preparing for the worst. WIll keep you posted. Literally.
to all the girls. (And boys!!)

Wow it is flying along in here isnt it? So many March babies. Thank you for the compliments on Scouts name. Its really nice to hear as we have had some not so positive comments on it. You know the "oh, thats different" "what!!!" "hmmmm" but we liked it so thats what matters . Just as im sure Nicole and Keith like there Sunday Roast, I mean Rose! lol
I feel for all you poor mums having a bad time of it at the moment. Almost guilty really as Scout is my dream baby, its like they wrote all those books about him. He is doing what he is supposed to when he is supposed to. Fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed it lasts! Honestly I could have 10 more if it was guaranteed they would be like him.
I would much rather have a baby than the snotty horrors that I have home on holidays at the moment. Pre teen boys have to be the most trying species in the world.
Laura I can totally understand the mothers group stigma thing. I think its the reason I dont really get into playgroups which is a shame really but im not into comparing my baby to yours. I want to talk about other things not just my boys, make me feel like Stacey not just Mum.
Well I hope everyones days are good with not too many hair pulling episodes. As for me I am about to have one now as it is bedroom cleaning time!
Wish me luck
hi mel.
thanks for your sympathy andie. it seems as though things are back on track. although now i am starting to put Cohen to bed without patting and rocking him so now there is a whole other issue. worked ok the first and second time and now..well starting to doubt myself.
just have to keep it constant. i don't let him cry it out so it is still taking ages to get him to sleep.
what else has been happening? do you guys like nicole's new baby's name? sunday rose???
Stolen my sisters laptop so I don't have time to read all posts sorry, but did a quick scan.
Good to see some newbies Hi!!!
I'm sorry Reenie but I'm at the total opposite end to you with the self soothing thing. Each to their own though
thought I was getting my new pc tomorrow, but my girlfriend got her dates mixed up and thought it was next sunday, not this one dunno if I'll get it.
All is ok here, Jake is feeding on the the booby, but we are still working up to a decent amount. I think he's getting about 25ml each go, which is great but no where near enough, obviously, lol. Jake has also been on the move for weeks now, either he's on his back lifting his bum up and shuffling his feet along or pushing of his latest is also a nearly crawl. He gets his legs up under but cann't hold his arms up so he kinda pushes along, lol. So funny to watch. Makes me sad though.......growing up TOO fast.
Got my Mirena in, went well, no pain or cramps. DH actually spoke of IF we want another....which is an improvement.
Anyhoo, my time is up, can' wait to get back online. Hayley, I posted the nappies (finally!) Friday. Thanks for checking up on me and keeping in touch Mel
Welcome back Bec - good to hear from you. about Jake feeding off the boob - that's terrific . And hey, 25ml is a damn good start (... re-start?)! Well done for persisting. Look forward to hearing more from you when you're up and running on your pc.
Mel - hope all is ok with you and James. You've been in my thoughts.
Reenie - Thumbs up for your soothing techniques. I'm pretty lucky with Cam, he drops off to sleep reasonably easily. Sometimes I need to go back into his room a couple of times to replace the "dum dum" or re-start his lullaby night-light, but on the whole he's pretty good. Generally if Cam cries for any length of time - after the dum dum's been replaced multiple times - then I just get him up and give him a cuddle till he drops off. To me, the more he cries and works himself up, the less likely he is to sleep. A quiet, gentle cuddle then both soothes him and makes him sleepy. Like Bec said though - each to their own, cos all bubs (and mums) are different. I'm amazed Seraya is crawling - good for her!
Nic - good luck with settling Dusty. How are you feeling - did you end up getting a cold?
Hope Dusty feels better soon.
CM - Cam had his four-month shots on Thursday. He howled for a minute or two and then was as good as gold. Ran a temp that night, but nothing a shot of baby panadol didn't fix. Think I saw a play station thingamebob at KMart - looked like a fantastic idea. If it's what I'm thinking of, the "seat" swivels around in it ... sound about right?
Laurab - for Sam rolling - that's great news. I'm afraid Cam's nowhere near rolling - he kinda gets part way over but isn't too sure how to go the rest of the way. I'm sure he'll do it in his own sweet time!
Luey - Really pleased to hear how things are going with E re: feeding and sleeping. A happy bub is generally a happy mum (well, IMO!).
Nina - for Cohen AND you - his self settling must make bedtime lots easier!
Eli - sounds like you've got Seth well "trained". for you too!
Jo - hope everything has settled down since your DH's accident.
All's well in my neck of the woods. I've spent the week catching up after our visitors left, although I'm heading up the Sunshine Coast on Friday for a few nights to stay with my "grey nomad" parents, which I'm looking forward to.
Is anyone else's bub almost into '0' size wondersuits? Cam's 66cm ... he's almost pushing through the toes of his 00 wondersuits. Any ideas on how I can stunt his growth - it's costing me a fortune to keep up with his wardrobe!
Hi Girls
I wondered why it was so quiet in here. It didn't occur to me maybe it was time to change threads
Boy what a few weeks we've had. First of all Isabella decided out of the blue she wouldn't feed properly. She would latch on great but after 10 mins or so one side she didn't want anymore and start screaming so I put her onto the other side and then she was fine. I thought I had better get Isabella and she only put on 30grams for the week. The baby nurse said I had to feed Isabella when ever she wanted it. That could be after 2 hours. I felt I had my boobs hanging out all day. Well it paid off and Isabella gained 210grams the next week I was so happy. As from Friday 4th July, Isabella was 4.95kg.
On Sunday night I had a phone call so say Mick (hubby) had a truck accident and was taken to hosp by ambulance. I was in a state of shock. I rang the neighbours and they came and took Riley for the night and I took Isabella to hosp as she needed feeding. I was a mess. One of Mick's work mates came and took me to hospital as I don't think I couldn't driven there myself. All is good, Mick just had some cuts and bruises. The police said he was quite lucky to walk out of the accident as the steering wheel was wedged against the seat. Isabella was so good at the hosp, I couldn't asked for more, she was great and all the nurses and doctors thought she was just beautiful.
Riley has been all out of sorts lately. Waking more then once thru the night which is not normally like him, he has been off his a little bit lately and constantly whinges. There is nothing I can put my finger on - maybe he is getting his 2yr old molars. Hopefully they will come thru soon.
I had better go and do the dishes as it will be time to feed Isabella again. Sorry for the lack of personals. I hope everyone is well.
Take Care
Jo
