Jazz is 1/4 of a year old today!

I've managed to get her onto a bottle but I have to use a small slow teat. She had about 75ml yesterday and always falls asleep easier now with a bottle feed. I'm sad that she's starting to take a bottle easier coz it means that I have to start looking for work.

Matt & I have decided that he's gonna go part time in his job and I'm gonna try and find a part time job because if we are both working part time then hopefully Jazz will spend less time in day care and with the way things work out we'll probably earn more than if one of us is working full time and the other is working part time.

    Dilemma’s

Hi all, I am sitting here wondering what to do about our financial situation, at the moment we survive. We live fairly comfortably but are on a pay-check to pay-check basis and do struggle to pay bills on time sometimes though they always get paid. I love spending my days with Jake and watching him grow and I don’t want to miss out on seeing our son grow up but on the other hand I want to get ourselves established before we decide to add to our brood so buying a house is paramount to this.

I have been offered a job working 5 days a week from 7am till 5:30 pm on a VERY good wage (almost a six figure sum per annum) and it is an easy job too, driving a loader and dump truck. There may be a way to get Jake to come with me if I can take the crusher operator position but that is not certain as yet. If I could do that it would be awesome! But at this stage I am working on having to put Jake into the care of a good friend’s mother.

The dialema is how to decide what the best course of action is, Jake would be very well cared for if he were to go to my friends mothers place however am I neglecting my duties as a mother to be putting him into care so early (he will be four months). Taking this job on will mean we will be able to put some serious savings away and really take a giant leap ahead in getting to where I want to be (stay home mum who runs a small agistment property ). I am planning to only be working for a year at the most so will be returning to Jake full time by the time he is 16 months old, about the time according to Brett that I am supposed to have another child! Eeeeeeek!

So what would you do? Take the job for a year, with the sacrifice of missing out on a larger portion of your son’s first year and set your lives up or struggle for the next few years but spend the quality time with your child??? Why would you choose what you did??

    Cheers
    Lisa

Lisa you certainly have a dilema and I'll just say now that this is a very personal choice. I chose not to return to full time work with my first two unless DH could look after them and will be doing the same this time.

I went back to work for 5 months while DH looked after our first (he worked nights). The hardest part was that I wasn't her most imprtant person anymore. When she got upset she wanted her dad because that was her primary carer. Great for him sad for me. Over the years I have worked/studied around my kids with the support of my DH. We don't have grand parents readily available.

So I suppose I would weigh up if this choice is for the greater good (will allow me to stay at home later on) and if I could live with someone else having a large input into my child's life.

Go with your gut. You could always quit work if you found it wasn't working for you or Jake. Good luck

Lisa this is a catch 22 question. Unfortunately I don't think anyone can answer except you.

We are in a similar situation, living paycheck by paycheck and usually by the time we've done shopping, paid rent, paid bills and gotten petrol for 2 cars, we are left with a very, very small amount for the rest of the fortnight.

I'm sad to say this but I think for you and for me and for just about every mother, no matter what decision is made there will always be some regret for making that choice.

I personally think that the hours you mentioned are huge and I don't think I could jump straight from nothing back to those sort of hours.

For me I will need to ease back into the workforce by working (hopefully) 2-3 full days or 5 part days a week. I know beyond any doubt that I'm not ready for full time work.

Before Jazz was born I thought that I would be ready to work full time again when I went back to work, but I know now that just isn't so. If you are ready to do that then good on you and I wish you the best of luck.

One thing though, no one has the right to judge whatever decision is made. We each have to do what is right for our situation and our family. No one else knows what's best for your family, unfortunately often we ourselves don't even know what's best, but we do know better than anyone else.

Lisa - I know how u feel. I've been thinking about it, but I can't leave Jesse yet. Not full time anyway. After Jaz I worked casually for my mum, which helped. She was about 6 weeks. But after Bri I didn't do anything til she was 18 months when I started working at the pub at home, but that was only 2 nights a week. Sometimes 3. About $100 - $250 a week. It was our have fun money. The rest went to bills. What I earnt was for takeaway, & going out etc.
I would like something like that again, just to kinda get out of the house too, but I'm not game enough to work in a pub here. We moved an hour & a half away to a bigger town. Where we lived before there are only about 250 people & most of them are out of town. I knew everyone. There are a few thousand people here & I don't know any of them.
Then there's day care. It really just doesn't seem worth it unless I'm making good money, but then I'd have to be away from the kids more.
The decision is way too hard.

Danni - Jesse is 1/4 year today. It's going so fast!

    Happy 1/4 year birthday Jesse!

I wish Jazz would sleep through the night again. She was so good before but now she'll wake at about 12:30 but I don't get her up then. I go in, put a dummy in her mouth and she usually goes back to sleep for 30mins to an hour or a bit longer if I'm lucky. Then she'll wake up 2-4 hours after a feed.
Last night when she was up at 2am for a feed DH got up as well so he could watch the F1. Jazz then woke at 6am and I'm in the habit of no matter what, I set an alarm for 8am and get up then. When she wakes at 6am she'll finish the feed at about 7ish so I usually stay up, there is no point going back to bed IMO. So I'm up, she's in bed, DH is in bed and that's the way it is.

Any one else found ticklish spots yet?? Under Jesse's arms & the top inside of his thigh. He cacks himself. Its so funny.

Danni - Jesse has good nights & bad nights. Last night was a bad one.Went down around 8.30. Woke at 1am, 3.30am, 5am, 6.30am, 7.30am. The night before was good though. Went down about 9.pm & only woke at 3am, then 7.30. Almost every nights different. I think last night he had a dirty nappy though. He doesn't usually dirty it through the night, & I use Huggies so I don't have to change him. But obviously last night I should've. Oh well, we r still alive.

    Morning girls,

How are you all? I am pretty good just very tired even though DJ is sleeping well, just so tired..... Last night he went to bed at 7pm at my mums place and then continued to sleep when we got home and thought I will just stay up and see how long he will sleep for and by 11:30 I ended up waking him up for a feed and a change of nappy and then put him back in his cot and he continued to sleep and woke up at 5:45am, so now I wish I just went to sleep early so I don't feel so tired haha So he had a great sleep.

Lisa - that is a tough decision but one that only you can make. I plan to go back to work on 1 September, and also have no choice because we will need the money by then, but hoping to negotiate with my boss so I can return to work part-time (3-4 days per week). I think in today's society you have no choice but to go to work and leave children in childcare because with the increasing interest rates and even the rise in petrol prices, it is hard to manage with one wage. That is my own opinion. For women who can stay at home with bub I think that is fantastic also, I wish I could do that but then again, I do enjoy my job and need my own time to be myself and stimulate the brain. I always knew that I would return to work, at least part-time anyway.

Danni - so is Jazz wanting playtime after a feed early hours of morning??? I have heard of mums talking about this, but apparently it is just a stage they go through. I haven't gone through it with DJ yet and not looking forward to him wanting to play at 3am eeek

No thankfully! She'll fall asleep on the boob and sometimes just doesn't want the 2nd boob. She does go back to sleep quickly during night feeds. I think thats coz I wont change her until about 6am and I don't take her out of her sleeping bag. I don't think she fully wakes up during the night. From about 6am, when she wakes up she's fully awake (might go back to sleep after feed) but when she's awake then as soon as I walk in her room she'll open her eyes and either smile or laugh!

I'm trying to get her to sleep now but I think she's trying to do a poo

Paddy is offically no longer a newborn. He has definately made the transition this week. He no longer likes to lie down all the time and tries to sit up, he doesn't feed to sleep much anymore and wants to see what's going on around him while feeding (a bit of nipple exposure whilst in public is good for the character i spose). We've stopped putting him in his hammock because he hasn't been putting himself back to sleep as easily as he does in the cot (after a quick chat to his friends of course) He props up on his arms for ages when on his tummy and doesn't whinge about it anymore. Last night he rolled from his tummy to his back, much to his amusement.

BJ Paddy is ticklish under his chin and generally on his tummy. Isn't it funny when they cack themselves. We took down his hammock today and attached the jumper, he loved it and absolutley cack himself when he realised he could bounce up and down.

I'm going to try to get him to put himself to sleep in the cot from now on. He did it this morning so let's hope it works again.

Wow. Rolling already cute. Jesse tries if he's in the mood. He comes closer to doing it if on his back & wakes up trying to find the boob. He tries to latch onto the side of his rocker.

He's definetely not a newborn either. I dunno when he made the change, but I'm not happy about it! My girls did everything too early - Bri was sitting at 4 months & crawling at 6 1/2! I always thought boys developed slightly slower than girls, but I don't think he is planning on listening to that statistic! Bugger. He will lay in my arms if happy enough though. Not for long.

Any one else got a bald patch yet? Poor Jesse's bald on the back of his head! Bri didn't get it til about 4 months & Jaz was bald til she was 3 so never had the chance.

    Hey girls,

DJ has been so unsettled today and been feeding every 1-2 hours I think he has hit another growth spurt.....Hope he doesn't want a feed every 2 hours tonight eeeek

Prama - yeah looks like it will be at Box Hill especially with this weather grrrrr I actually prefer it to be outside

I have started weaning DJ off the boob and he is going well on the formula so by the end of this month he will be off the breast yipeeeee He will have had breastmilk for 4 months and I have had enough of breastfeeding (so please don't judge me). I don't enjoy it anymore and he hardly feeds for very long and is always unsettled after a feed.....Anyway I feel happy about doing it.

Anyway I have to get going, so have a great night girls.

Summer is growing too fast too, she is wanting to sit up all the time too and gets annoyed most of the time when laying down, she found her feet the other day and looked at them as if to say 'where did they come from?' very cute. She lays on her tummy with her arms propping her up so isn't rolling as much as she was before i think she likes looking around on her tummy must see different things. Summy has had a bald patch for quite a while, she doesn't have much hair so isn't that noticeable she just has bum fluff. She is a big dribble monster and very rarely takes the dummy anymore. I am very lucky that she self settles 99% of the time she is the only one out of 4 that has done it so am stoked.

I start work this thur not doing many hours per week but i still don't really want to only going to be earning about $100 per week but will pay for my horse so good for that.

Latest on the house situation..... Might be going bush!!! Looking at acreage. I am going mental in this house hope something happens soon might be getting another horse in the next few weeks can't compete on mine so need a backup!

Hopefully catch up on personals tomorrow

shell - no judging at all. i think my milk is getting less and less. poopy detaches all the time and then cries or gets frustrated. im just going to try till i get back. also travelling with bottles is also a pain. having to carry a few bottles, then thermos for water and additional formula. and getting all that sterilised on the plane etc.

trina - new house! sounds exciting!! will the girls still be able to sail?

i was charting my cycle when we were ttc, and this weekend last year was my ovulation time and when we concieved poopy!

poopy seems to be dropping his feed.. the gap between feeding time is getting longer.. is this normal?

    good nite girls!xoxxo

Shell absolutley no judgement at all everybody is different. WIll has only one breast feed a day from me and that is more for me than him. MY plattlettes are really low and I am drained from this so milk isnt much chop at all. WIll however is going great guns on the formula Doc and hcn both pleased he has had one little cold which we all had and grew 8 cm in one month and is over 6 kilos now. He feeds well and sleep through the night form 9 ish till nearly 7 now so its working for us.
Prama Will has always drunk his formula at room temperature as he did in the hospital so as long as it isnt chilled just out of the fridge he will drink it will poopy take a room temp bottle so you dont have to heat them?I can understand how it coudl be difficult on the plane.
Trina oh wounldt it be great fo ryou all to have some acres the girls woudl love it and you coudl have your horses close hope it works out for you.
Its rainign here today yay it smells so good we havent had such good rian for a while I hope it stays for the week. Got go WIills bath is ready

bron - the pead said to cut down on one boob feed as he thinks by the time i get to the 3rd feed, my milk is too little. so i have been doing that. i dont feel like i have much anyway, and poopy keeps coming off.
yup, he does take room temp, so that will be ok. of cos the other thing is sterlising bottles. but im sure the air crew can do that for us. just have to have enough to use while waiting for the flight, and incase of delays and all. sigh!

gotta go, for class now.. talk later.

oh i read somewhere that kissing bub too much isnt a good thing. im sure this is old fashioned school of thot. it's just so that you dont give the baby any germs. im sure you dont want strangers kissing bub, but im mum and dad are ok. i just cant stop kissing my little poopy!
