Sorry if I'm repeating what others have said, I haven't read all the responses. You will work out what is best for you guys. Every family and every baby is different.

DD was in a bassinet in our room until 10 weeks when we moved her to her cot in her room. She was so noisy though (like most newborns) so she often slept just outside our bedroom door - at first with the door open then with the door closed - then she moved into the hallway and then the kitchen (next to our room). Eventually she made it down the hallway to her own room so both DH and I could sleep better!! LOL!

It was handy having her close by but as our DD was a slow feeder, I always took her to the lounge to feed so I could get comfy and watch TV. So in that sense, it didn't really make my life any easier IYKWIM but I did love having her next to me in the beginning.
