Baby in the room at night with you?

I WAS planning on having the baby in the bassinet next to me at night when she arrives.

But DP was on the phone to his mum the other night and she said she never had the baby in the room with them.. because it woke up his dad.

I havent asked my mum about it yet but what does everyone else do? I was just trying to make it a little bit easier for me *scratches head*

So now Im thinking why the hell am I getting a bassinet when if I did what she did she could just go straight into the cot?

    Im confused :/

I'm thinking same thing hun. I have a bassinet but where to put it. In our room or in baby room. I doubt I will have the cot yet so it will be only option.

You will figure out what is right for you.
With DD1, I was determined she would start in her room, well, she didn't go into her room until she was 7 months old. She was in a bassinet beside me from birth. I figured I was the one getting up to her, so I might as well be comfy in my own bed, and I didn't want her far from me. Dp wasn't disturbed very much.
DD2 is also in my room but at the end of the bed, and then half way through the night, in the bed.

You do whatever you feel comfortable with. We had Moo in with us until he was 6 months old, was so handy for all those night feeds as he was right there. After the first couple of weeks DH was able to sleep right through very loud hungry baby screaming!

Cookie's coming in the bed with us - but the cot's probably going to migrate into our bedroom too just in case there are times we want him/her in that. It's better for all involved if bub is in the same room, so who am I to put us all out just because the cot resides in a different room right now?

Luke was in our room from birth until he was 3 mths and then into a cot, Mark never was disturbed by Luke waking. So it really depends on what kind of sleeper your DP is. There were many days where Mark would wake in the morning and say that Luke didn't wake at all....until he saw the look on my face!!!

I used the bassinette for the first couple of weeks. It was easier to put them in and wheel it around where you wanted them. I actually never purchased a bassinette, just borrowed them from friends. They were very handy in those few weeks.
I used to have it beside the bed at night to save having to go to the other end of the house (that's where our kids bedrooms are). If they were a little unsettled I could reach the bassinette from my bed without having to get out and it give it a little rock/shake to help settle them if needed.
After a week or two I would then use the Cot during the day to get them used to the Cot and Bassinette at night beside the bed until they were older and settled enough to go into the Cot permanently at night.
There are alot of people who say the baby in the room disturbs your DP or DH, mine used to wake up in morning and ask me how my night was
You will know what works for you

We always have our kids next to us in the bassinette - for how long depends on them and us. Sometimes we have moved them early (2 weeks - DS) because he was too noisy in his sleep, sometimes it was longer (4 months - DD1) because she was a light sleeper and we always woke her up. I can't remember when we moved DD2, she moved out of the bassinette pretty early, but then we had the cot next to our bed instead *scratches head trying to remember...*

This one will go next to our bed, and then probably into the cot next to our bed cos there isn't enough room in the house for them to go elsewhere! lol

Sorry if this is OT - but you just reminded me of the time DH turned me in the morning saying "Wow Moo slept well!" I nearly hit him as I'd been up all night

Both of our bubs have gone into a bassinette in our room right next to my bed, or to co-sleeping with me. DD has only recently moved out of our room when we moved here 7mths ago, she's gone straight to her own bedroom and is doing sooo well! DS still needs one of us to sleep with him. We sleep in a double bed with him in his room and the other of ous is in our room. Not ideal for couple time or intimacy, but the best bet in getting a good nights sleep! When #3 comes I will cosleep and hopefully bf him and DH will sleep with and tend to DS and DD if she needs him.
You will figure it out for yourself though. It's a pretty personal decision. I don't sleep well when I sleep with my kids, but I also don't sleep well if they're not with me becauseI'm constantly wondering if they're ok. I figure it's better for me if they're with me cause then I can just put a hand on them and make sure all is well and go straight back to sleep, rather than having to get up to check. DH didn't cosleep with them before about 6ish mths because they were too little, and even then he didn't like it, so we got the double bed for me and DS to sleep in.

I think it depends on the baby and the parents. I had DD in our room with us in the cot until we moved and she became unsettled. She now co sleeps and it suits us.

I've had both in with me but I do understand your MILs comments. WIth both DD and DH I couldn't get a wink of sleep so I moved with DD (and her cradle) into the spare room until she went into her own room. Not ideal but my DH has separate issues.
With DS he was cosleeping from the start, and DH was scared of squashing him, so this time he went into the spare room. Again, not ideal, but it works for us.

We always found having them in our room, would wake us up all night.. babies make alot of noises when theyre sleeping! So first night or so they slept in their cradle just outside our door, then went into their own room.. that was in a different house than we're in now and the room was a fair bit away from ours.. but this bub's room is right next door to ours so will be going in there from day dot.

They are quite noisy, but you get used to it. And I always found it quite reassuring, while DH learnt to sleep right through
    Just see how you go

We had DS in his bassinette at the foot of the bed, on my side, until he was about 5 months old. I found most times I would wake up and get him even before he cried for milk - mummy's intuition But even if he did do a little cry, DH rarely heard him.

It was much better for me to have him right there in the room with me, cos I liked to check that he was still breathing in the wee hours of the night, hehehe...

Ditto to that. My H only gets lightly woken when baby wakes, but he can drop off to sleep again while I feed so it's not that bad. Sometimes he's really tired but he works at a desk so it's not like fatigue will kill him... just makes him less productive.

My little one is not noisy at all when she sleeps. I have sometimes poked her just to check she is ok. So all babies are different and you will have to check what works for you and baby when they arrive.
