Mum’s Top 3 Things I Didn’t Need For Baby

Having a baby opens your eyes to a whole new market of products, gadgets, gizmos and contraptions. It can be so very confusing, with some parents left wondering what they actually need to buy and what is truly essential.

With this in mind, I asked BellyBelly’s Platinum Members to share their Top 3 rated products they didn’t need! Each month, we’ll feature a Platinum Member’s ratings and keep a tally to see if we can see any patterns forming.

This month’s Top 3 writer is BellyBelly Senior Forum Moderator, Kathryn. Kathryn is a married, stay at home mum to 2 boys, Kameron aged 3 and Lachlan aged 1. Her days are spent taking care of the boys and helping out on the BellyBelly Forums as a Senior Moderator. She is also heavily involved with her local Playgroup as a co-ordinator, which she hopes one day may help her become a Kindy Assistant.

My Top 3 Things I Didn’t Need For Baby – Kathryn Wall

1. Kapoochi Baby Carrier

I brought one of these thinking it would be so much easier to carry baby around in a carrier than having to hold onto him or her, but when Kameron my first born finally arrived he was too small to begin with to sit in it as his head kept going out of the side of it, then by the time he was old enough I found it too awkward to get a child in and out of it and then get comfy with having it on. The only thing I really did use it for was when Kameron was old enough to sit up in a shopping trolley seat as you could use it so they sat a bit more secure in the front of the trolley. When Lachlan my 2nd born arrived I didn’t even bother with it at all and eventually sold it.

2. Baby Bath

Kameron absolutely hated the baby bath, so after a couple of weeks of having him home with us we bathed him in the laundry tub which he loved. I also found the baby bath hurt my back when using it and I would use it on a sturdy table so it was up high as well.

Lachlan didn’t mind the baby bath that much but once again I found it was hurting my back, so I just ended up bathing him in the big bath that way I could get in with him as well.

3. Change Table

When I was pregnant with Kameron I was looking at buying a change table but then decided against it. I think that was the best decision I made. I just found it so much easier to change both my boys on a change mat on the floor, and like any table in our house I knew a change table would eventually get cluttered with other stuff and not be used for what it was designed for.
