Having a sick baby is difficult enough. You don’t need the added stress of trying to work out how to give your baby medicine.
Many babies will either spit it up or refuse to take it altogether.
And if you’re existing on minimal sleep, which is pretty much a given when you have a poorly baby to take care of, you’re probably finding it hard to think of new ways to coax your little one to swallow the medicine.
Giving your baby medicine
Fear not. One mama has shared the ultimate hack for getting your baby to take medicine.
Mama Helena Lee is a nurse practitioner and she has a tip to share with other parents facing that very dilemma.
When her baby son, Alfie, got sick, Lee figured out a way to help the medicine go down. She was so pleased it had worked, she took to Facebook to share the hack with the rest of the world.
The inventive mama inserted the medicine syringe into the teat of a bottle, allowing Alfie to latch on and start sucking. She then simply released the medicine and Alfie guzzled it happily.
Lee also shared a few photos of the hack on Facebook. She wrote: “So for the last 24 hours I’ve struggled to get Alfie to take Calpol; he has ended up covered in half of it where he spits it at me…. Then I remembered seeing this trick – not 1 bit got wasted and no tears”.
The post has been shared 125,000 times. Other parents immediately got on board to spread the word about this mess-saving technique. Over 50,000 people commented on the post, tagging their friends and thanking Lee for sharing the tip.
If you have ever been frustrated by a medicine-refusing baby, or ended up covered in sticky pink liquid, you’ll understand just how valuable this hack is.
So, next time you’re caring for a sick baby, you’ll have one less thing to worry about.
