One of the most common things adults ask children is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
As if that isn’t a difficult enough decision when you’re in the latter years of high school!
Thinking about it: what answers do we expect from children? Perhaps a doctor, nurse, astronaut or a police officer…
But when this 13 year old answered the question of what he wanted to be when he grew up, it completely blew us away.
What kids say about their education
In this insightful and engaging TEDx talk, see what Logan LaPlante, a 13 year old boy, has to say about his own education and what he wants to be when he grows up.
This is a MUST watch for all parents and educators. Hopefully this is the beginning of big change in how we talk to our children about their future, and how we do education.
Just as we appreciate flexibility in the workplace, how about flexibility in the classroom too? We are all drawn to different things, because we enjoy doing different things and want to become different people. One model of education (that punishes you for not complying) is far too restrictive and blocks creativity.
What this 13 year old, wants to be?
It’s time for change. Share this with your kids too, and inspire them to follow their heart.
