As your estimated due date approaches, your phone will be inundated with text messages asking if you’ve had any twinges.
When you politely reply ‘no’ (whilst imagining what you’d prefer to say not so politely), you’ll probably receive a barrage of messages full of hints and suggestions to help you get labour started.
Have you eaten any pineapple? Had a vindaloo? Why don’t you book a massage? Have you tried having sex?
Could A Fast Food Kickstart Your Labour?
This will get old pretty much immediately, especially when lots of people are sending you the same ideas.
Especially the suggesting to have sex. Massively pregnant? Overdue? Can’t get off the sofa without the assistance of a crane? Great, well, you’re probably really keen on some sex then.
If those tips from well meaning (but really annoying) friends and family members weren’t already driving you crazy, there’s now a new one to add to the list. Pizza.
Yep, apparently there’s a pizza which claims to do pretty much what it says on the tin (not that pizza comes in a tin, but, you know).
Hawthorne’s New York Pizza and Bar in North Carolina claims their Buffalo Wing Pizza has sent so many women into labour that they’ve had to rename it ‘The Inducer’.
Local newspaper Charlotte Five interviewed three women who all credited the pizza with naturally inducing their labours.
One mama took to the restaurant’s social media page to let them know that labour had started shortly after she’d sampled the Buffalo Wing Pizza. It didn’t take long for other local mamas to join the thread and say it had worked for them too.
According to the restaurant, one woman gave birth to her baby just four hours after eating the now famous spicy pizza.
So, if you fancy eating pizza in a restaurant filled with desperately fed up heavily pregnant women, this may just be the restaurant for you.
At the very least, your mother in law will now be able to order you a takeaway pizza instead of awkwardly suggest you try having sex with her son to get that baby out.
