Last month, a mother in India unexpectedly gave birth to conjoined twins.
The mother, who has not been named, reportedly had no idea she was expecting twins when she went into labour on 2 September.
Doctors say the mother instantly bonded with her babies, but soon discharged herself and her babies from hospital care.
Mum Of Conjoined Twins Born Naturally Urged To Return To Hospital
Doctors are urging the unnamed mother to return to the hospital, so her babies can have the surgery they so badly need.
The babies were born with all of their limbs and major organs, but doctors were unable to determine the sex of the babies, who were joined at the abdomen.
The twins were born at the Bharani Prasad Hospital in Northern India. The 32-year-old mother didn’t know she was expecting twins until an hour before the babies were born.
She arrived at the hospital in labour and was sent for a scan to check on the baby. It was then she discovered she was expecting two babies. Soon after, the twins were born naturally, something the woman’s doctors found quite remarkable.
Doctors at the hospital are urging the mother to seek out medical assistance for her babies. She was referred to specialists for further advice, but hasn’t responded to the referral, leaving the doctors worried about the health of the twins. Although the separation of conjoined twins can be risky, it is deemed medically necessary in some cases.
Dr Aggarwal, who oversaw the birth, said: “The mother and twins were doing well so they were able to go home. However, I referred them to a better hospital with advanced medical facilities so they can seek further treatment. But they have not responded. I am unaware of their whereabouts or if at all they took the twins anywhere else. I can only hope they seek further help”.
