If you believed the memes and listicles online, you’d think it was only mamas who were deserving of the various parenting labels thrown about these days.
Crunchy mamas and hot mess mamas (guilty as charged) are two good examples.
Everyone has a label, it seems.
Well, now dads are getting in on the action too.
After all, dads can be just as guilty of parenting cliches as their female counterparts.
Parenting is serious business, but that doesn’t mean you can’t laugh at yourself. All parents have been guilty of making cliche comments from time to time, especially when they’re battling the relentless sleepless nights of those early months of parenting.
Parenting can be exhausting at times so it’s important to have fun too.
One great video from Mama Natural pokes a little fun at crunchy dads.
Watch out, crunchy mamas, this video will probably make you swoon.
It opens, quite brilliantly, on what appears to be a father-son fishing trip. The adult son is talking to his elderly father, “It’s called placenta encapsulation.”
The dad looks pretty surprised, as you might expect. The video captures a montage of things you might expect a crunchy dad to say, like “You guys are getting a doula, right?” and “It was an unassisted home birth.”
Crunchy dads, just like their female partners in crime, love to share what they have learnt.
These guys do their research and are more than happy to let you in on the secret of delayed cord clamping, babywearing and homemade organic breast milk ice lollies for teething toddlers.
Crunchy dad plays an equal part in the parenting, you can find him reading bedtime stories, taking charge of bath time or campaigning for unisex changerooms in restaurants.
He reads just as many parenting blogs as you and has a Pinterest board of craft activities to do with the toddler on rainy afternoons.
He’s a great dad and a supportive and caring partner. If you’re with a crunchy dad, you’re a lucky mama.
What’s the crunchiest thing you’ve ever heard your crunchy dads say?
